“I didn’t kill the beast,” Diane explained. “A demon brought me to your territory, and it was he that immobilized and disemboweled the beast. All I had to do was retrieve my weapon when I found it lying there, surrounded by his bowels. Then, when it was over, the same demon brought me back to Earth.”

Incredulous, Tendor couldn’t hold back a mocking laugh.

“Are you trying to make me believe that one of my demons betrayed me?”

“I’m not trying to make you believe anything. I’m simply telling you what happened.”

Tendor didn’t respond. His eyes suddenly darkened, and his expression hardened. With his eyes glued to the lava flowing in the distance, he continued:

“If I understand you correctly, a demon took you to Hell, on my territory, to kill my guardian and give you the weapon with which you could have killed him a thousand times over?”

  “That’s right.”

Tendor kept his eyes riveted on the volcanoes. Diane watched his strong jaw contracted in frustration.

“What about the demon, did you kill him?”

“No. He brought me back to the earthly dimension and then vanished instantly.”

  “What did he look like?”

“I never saw him,” Diane admitted, as she looked at the fallen angel.

“What was his energy like, how did he act? Did he have a name?”

Diane understood Tendor’s reaction, unfortunately she was unable to give him anything more:

“He never said his name. His energy was morbid and cold, albeit very powerful. He was everywhere, like an invisible cloud that penetrates you and tears you apart from the inside.”

  “Did he penetrate your body?”

“Yes, he took hold of my heart.”

Tendor said nothing. He rubbed his jaw without realizing it, caught in a rage that he had trouble containing.

“If what you say is true,” he finally declared, looking at the black river flowing through the huge valley between the cliffs, “it was indeed one of my demons.”

The muffled sound of the lava flows became audible again.

After a long silence, Tendor turned to Diane with a broad smile on his face:

“Thank you for your testimony, Diane. Don’t worry about that demon, I’ll take care of him, he’ll be dead in no time.”

“Why do you think he helped me?”

“I don’t know. But I intend to find out before I kill him. It’s most likely our alliance that upset him.”

  Diane nodded.

“I’m sure he’s not the only one who is bothered by our alliance,” she said in a deep voice. “You know Enkaz right? He’s the one who sent me to the convent, on the orders of the Decision-Makers.”

“They wanted us to meet today,” Tendor laughed. “Those little monsters will never give up.”

“I’m sure They’ll be waiting for us at the exit. Thece and I left our incarnations in your chapel.”

“My demons won’t let the Decision-Makers get to them,” Tendor promised. “I’ve already made the necessary arrangements.”

“I trust you,” Diane said, turning around.

Behind her in the distance, Thece and Lou were getting to know each other better. The legionary, still on his knees, caressed his daughter’s wings with admiration, holding her little hand with love.

“Do you know why the Sages are so determined to get you and your daughter back?”

Diane suddenly turned to Tendor who was still looking at the river. Her heart beat wildly again:

  “Because Lou is illegitimate?”

She saw the fallen angel smile inconspicuously before slowly turning towards her. After a few seconds of silence during which he contemplated the seraph’s extraordinary beauty, he explained with a grin:

“When the forces of Light and Love created us, the Angels, with our spheric weapons, they made sure that the two creative essences would always reign over their creations.”

Diane looked at him gravely. She wasn’t sure she understood what he was getting at.

  “What do you mean?”

“Lou was born from the fusion of the love of two angels. She is made entirely of love and light; therefore, she is sacred. For this reason, no angel and no demon should ever be able to destroy her. To ensure this, the Universe has endowed her mother’s weapon, your weapon, Hagen, with a power greater than that of the fruits of these two essences.”

“Tendor, please be more clear,” implored Diane, holding her breath.

“As long as you and Lou are alive,” Tendor said, as he looked her in the eyes, “Hagen will be able to remove any obstacle. In other words Diane, you are the only being in the Sphere who can eliminate the angels of the Congregation.”

Diane felt her blood freeze. She could barely breath.

“You understand now why I want this weapon back,” Tendor concluded mischievously, as he turned to look out over the valley of volcanoes.

Diane remained silent. She now understood what was at stake. Things went much further than she had imagined.

“Tendor,” she began, firmly but softly, “I didn’t come here to give Hagen back to you.”

The original seraph gulped as he attempted to contain his displeasure. He didn’t take his eyes off the spewing lava. She continued:

“I’ve come to offer you an alliance.”

Then, she felt joy awaken in the fallen angel. Holding back a victorious smile, he slightly turned towards her, inviting her to clarify her thoughts. She explained immediately:

“You, Thece and I, against the Decision-Makers and their Guards...”

  Tendor laughed scornfully:

“I’ve never been a fan of threesomes.”

“I’ll gather legionaries. I’ll find other seraphs. Hundreds of them believe in me. I know they’ll follow me.”

  “And for what purpose?”

“To save my daughter and to put an end to the dreadful law that condemns her to annihilation.”

Tendor smiled. Diane could feel a lively joy emanating from him. He was extremely pleased. After a few seconds of silence, immersed in his thoughts, a victorious smile stretched across his face as he finally declared:

“Welcome to my home Diane, to you, and to all those who follow you…”
