The Dragon Slayer Page 15

Glaycol has changed completely and he isn’t in the mood to stop and sightsee so the moment the thief tries to start a fight, Glaycol moves like a blur and stops in front of the thief, making the thief react by throwing a punch with his right hand. Glaycol evades by moving to the left as he puts his right hand on the thief’s face, his right leg behind the thief’s feet, and with his hand on the thief’s face he sweeps the thief’s back legs forcing him to the ground. One look and the remaining thieves scurry away, leaving the rest of the way open so they can reach the castle faster.

They reach the castle without any other problems. The guard recognizes the emblem on Glaycol’s cape and lets them enter. Once inside they start to watch the direction the guards are going to try to find the direction of the tower where the King is being held. As they walk, Glaycol hears a guard yelling to a group of maids escorted by other guards, “Get your asses moving and take that food to the north tower. It is time for the King to be fed.”

Glaycol looks back at everyone and grins, “It’s time.”

Everyone nods and runs toward the guard that just yelled. Pandora kicks him in the nuts. Glaycol steps back and hides behind a pillar while the guards start running their way and they start running away to a bigger room. Once they are out of Glaycol’s view, he comes out and starts running toward the north tower. Glaycol doesn’t find that many guards along the way, but he has to knock a few out. Once he reaches the north tower he starts walking up, but he hears the footsteps of the guards coming down. “Man, I need to take a crap. They won’t mind that I leave to take care of this, leaving the door to the room of the King, unattended for a few minutes. It is not like someone is stupid enough to come and try to rescue the King without the keys.”

Glaycol hides at the bottom of the steps and waits for the guard to come down. Once the guard comes into view Glaycol grabs him by the side of his face and smashes his head against the wall, knocking the guard unconscious. Glaycol grabs the bundle of keys that the guard has and starts running up the stairs.

At the top, Glaycol sees that there's no guard so he starts to walk, looking through the doors on each side and finding no one in the rooms to the side of the tower. The only one occupied is the one on the far end, which has a big steel door. Glaycol runs toward the steel door and starts trying each one of the keys on the bundle he has. Using the correct key, he opens the door and finds the King looking toward the door holding his sword. Glaycol takes off the hood of his cape, and says, "Put that down, your Majesty, before you hurt yourself with it. It's time to go. We are taking you away from this prison that belongs to Hyglarur, Emperor of the Dragon Empire.”

The King looks at him shocked and asks, “Who are you and how did you got this far without alerting the guards?"

Glaycol, annoyed at the questions, answers, “Are you really going to question the one who is saving your worthless life? I'm giving you the chance to save your life and run away from your captors, so you have two options. You can either sit up here and let them use you as leverage so your daughter has to do whatever the fuck they want, or you can just follow me.”

Glaycol turns around and leaves. The King has as angry expression on his face since no one has ever spoken to him that way before, but doesn’t say anything, since he knows that the man standing in front of him is right. He puts his sword back in its sheath follows Glaycol as they walk down the stairs of the tower.

Everyone is close to the hall where they broke away from Glaycol. They are fighting the guards, but they are getting tired due to having to knock them out. Every time they knock one out, two more replace him.

Glaycol runs through the corridors of the castle with the King right behind him until they come across Glaycol’s friends. Glaycol, seeing that they are almost completely surrounded, screams, "HEY!"

The guards turn around and face him as he pulls out a flash bomb. Ethan, Jasorian Pandora and Vlamarine, know that is the sign he was referring to and they start running toward the exit of the castle without looking back at Glaycol as he turns to face the King and says in a whisper, "Close your eyes.”

Glaycol pulls the plug that ignites the bomb as the guards start running his way. He throws it up, making the guards look up thinking it will blow up the ceiling, and in that moment the bomb goes off, blinding all the guards in the room. Glaycol opens his eyes and pulls the King by the hand. When the King opens his eyes they start running out of the castle.

The others are already out of the castle, and the two guards that were at the entrance to the gates are already knock out on the ground. Glaycol and the King are running through the same route Glaycol used to get to the castle and they are approaching the end of the city. They reach the gates when they hear the bells from the castle start ringing, signaling the escape of someone. Suddenly they feel a tremor in the ground as part of the castle collapses. Hyglarur comes flying out, throwing fire to the sky as he flies. The King stops and turns around as he says, “We are so screwed.”

Glaycol grins and shakes his head, “In your dreams, old man. Here is where the fun begins for me.”

They start running and Glaycol directs him toward the cabin. When the group comes back on their horses, bringing Zodiac with them, Glaycol tells the King to go with Pandora as he gets on Zodiac and they ride through the forest, forcing Hyglarur away from the castle and the people in the city.

Hyglarur is flying over them, throwing fire breath around them, burning the trees, so Glaycol tells them to ride away as he rides in the opposite direction. Hyglarur, smelling the blood of dragons on Glaycol, follows Glaycol, forgetting about the King. Hyglarur wants vengeance for the ones he lost, especially Commander Zaz.

Vlamarine, instead of going with the rest of them, follows him trying to help him. Hyglarur glides above them and lands in front of Glaycol, causing both man and horse to fall. Zodiac and Glaycol get up as Vlamarine appears and gets off her horse. Glaycol tells Zodiac, “Take the other horse with you and try to keep away from his range.”

Zodiac snorts and runs away as the other horse does the same. Glaycol looks at Vlamarine and shakes his head, “You shouldn’t have come here. You should have gone with the others.”

Vlamarine nods and responds, “You are right, I should have gone with the others, but unlike the others, I’m not leaving you behind.”

Glaycol nods and takes off his cape making Hyglarur speak with a deep, dark voice, “So, it is you, Dragon Slayer. I can finally get my revenge for you killing my brother and my commander. I should congratulate you for making it this far, but your luck has come to end, Dragon Slayer.”

Glaycol’s whole expression changes and he becomes the Dragon Slayer. He starts laughing wickedly and says, “I have been waiting for this moment, Hyglarur. Since the moment you killed my parents I have been training by killing dragons so when I got to you I could defeat the one dragon I’ve been searching for, and that’s you, Hyglarur. You will pay for what have you have done.”

Hyglarur says nothing as he turns around and swings his tail at Glaycol and Vlamarine running toward him, dropping down as the tail goes over their heads. Vlamarine does a back flip as she shoots an arrow toward Hyglarur’s chest while Glaycol swings his sword at the tail. Vlamarine starts to put some distance between them as Glaycol keeps evading attacks coming his way.

Hyglarur jumps up and throws a fire ball at Glaycol, making Glaycol run away and jump from his location as Vlamarine starts using stronger arrows at Hyglarur, hitting Hyglarur’s scales and knocking some of them off, but not causing any damage to him. Glaycol is using his sword too, but Hyglarur’s scales are really strong. Glaycol is regretting not having Death Bringer with him to be able to cause more damage to Hyglarur.

Hyglarur swings his tail with more force than the first time and Vlamarine sees that Hyglarur is confusing Glaycol so he can use his claws to kill him. Vlamarine runs toward Glaycol as he is trying to use his sword to sever the impact between him and the tail. When Vlamarine pushes him out of the way she gets slammed by the tai
l and is sent flying ten feet back, hitting a tree and breaking it with the force of the blow dealt by Hyglarur’s tail.

Glaycol gets up to see Vlamarine hitting the tree and breaking it. He runs toward her to find her bleeding heavily, the tree has run through her stomach and her breathing is rapidly increasing. Glaycol stops in front of her as she coughs up blood and says, “I’m… glad… that I …. was… able… to save you… my… love…I …love… you….”

Glaycol starts panicking as fear floods him, “I can’t lose you, Vlamarine. I can’t lose anyone that is close to me again. I can’t lose you. I love you, Vlamarine. Please don’t leave me behind. Please stay with me.”

  Vlamarine smiles weakly and says, “You… finally… said… it … my…. love… My resting place is in your hands. I love you… I’m happy to have… met... you... in …my …life…. Namaríe…. Tenn’enomentielva.”

Glaycol watches Vlamarine draw her final breath with a smile on her lips and his tears start falling faster than they were before. Jasorian, Ethan, Pandora and the King come into view and approach Glaycol. They pull the tree out of Vlamarine and Jasorian uses his skills to stop the decay of her body as Pandora uses her cape to cover her and Ethan puts a hand on Glaycol’s shoulder. Glaycol turns around to see the side of his face has started to turn black, making Ethan jump back. Suddenly a whirlwind starts to cover Glaycol in Black Flames as he turns to face Hyglarur and he is about to sprint forward when the force of his feet make a crack in the ground. The moment he sprints forward the ground breaks and dust raises up because of how fast he is going. Using his sword, which has become engulfed in the Black Flame, he starts attacking Hyglarur’s chest, making the scales fall off of it. With a big swing he slashes Hyglarur’s chest, making him roar in pain and jump into the sky, flying away. “Curse you, Vlamarine, and your descendants. This is not over, Dragon Slayer.”

The whirlwind has stopped and so have the flames as Glaycol screams and tears pour down his face. The King turns to look at Glaycol and says, “I know what it is to lose a loved one.”

Glaycol turns toward the King in anger and he screams at him, “Do you? Do you know what is like to see your parents get killed right in front of you? Do you know what it is like to see your mother as he runs her through with his claw, spilling her insides as she protected you? As his claw marks you forever as it pops your eye out? Do you really know what it’s fucking like? You certainly don’t know shit.”

Ethan places his hand on Glaycol’s shoulder and squeezes gently, “Glaycol, try to calm down.”

Glaycol turns to him in anger and asks, “You’re asking me to calm down? I have lost my first love, my wife, and you’re asking me to calm down?”

Glaycol carries Vlamarine toward Zodiac as he says to the group, “Take the King to my grandparents, Ethan knows who they are. Once he is safe you all are on your own.”

Glaycol pulls out a flash bomb and throws it to the ground, blinding them as he rides away.

  Two weeks later

Two weeks have passed since the fight between Glaycol and Hyglarur. The fight where Glaycol lost Vlamarine. Vlamarine gave Glaycol the choice of her resting place and he has chosen to honor her as his Queen, and bury her in the crypts of the royal family of the Black Flame. It took him five days to arrive and give the news to his grandparents. He let them know that the King was on his way and to not tell anyone that he had come by.

After he left, it took two more days to prepare the funeral for her and after the funeral he disappears without a trace. He has chosen to go to Zodiac’s Kingdom and stay there.

The rest of the group arrives at the castle just a few hours after Glaycol left and they have all agreed to remain with his grandparents and do whatever duty is necessary. What they didn’t expect was the news of what happen at the capital to spread throughout the continent. Groups have risen to oppose the Dragon Empire and most of them are waiting to be led by the Dragon Slayer, but sadly for the continent of Istagar, the Dragon Slayer is nowhere to be found.
