My Boss Can’t Get Enough

Page 15

“But why? What ever did I do?” I bat my eyes at him innocently.

He grins at me. “You’ve been sending dirty messages to your boss’s personal phone.” He clears his throat and holds up his cell, reading from the screen. “I can’t stop thinking about your thick cock between my legs. I know I shouldn’t, it’s so wrong, you’re my boss. But I want you again. Right now.”

My eyes go wide. “But, sir, I’d never—”

“Not another word, young lady.” He comes closer, so close. A shiver runs down my spine and I can’t help but smile. He’s trying so hard to stay serious but the smile is getting bigger on his lips. “It’s entirely inappropriate to talk to your boss like that. And if I ever hear you say anything like that again…”

“You’ll punish me?” I say it so sweetly and he can’t help but laugh.

  “Damn right I will.”

I get up on my tiptoes and kiss him softly. He grins, kisses me back.

“How’s it going?” I ask, falling back into work mode. We can’t take our little game too much further than that, unfortunately. We both know that after what happened a year ago with Carol, people are very much watching our every move.

“Not bad.” He squeezes my hand and heads back to his seat. I open the door again before sitting down in the chair across from him. “Heard from the mayor’s office not long ago.”

  “Seriously?”

  “Seriously.”

“Well?” My leg’s bouncing, I’m so nervous.

The bus initiative launched about six months ago. It was late, of course. After what happened with Carol, after we gave them the recording of Carol’s incriminating rant, the board put everything on hold for a couple months to investigate, which turned into another couple months of damage control.

As it turns out, I wasn’t the only person Carol was trying to blackmail.

They found multiple emails on her work computer to various different employees claiming to have damaging materials on them. Some of these blackmail chains went on for hundreds of emails.

Obviously, she was fired. And as far as I know, she’s facing criminal charges.

But after she was kicked out, I stopped paying attention to her. After she was gone, it just seemed like she wasn’t worth my time anymore. Not when I had my Baker entirely to myself.

That wasn’t a smooth transition of course. We had to go to HR and fill out the proper paperwork. There was a little bit of media attention but the Carol story basically drowned out anything about the two of us. We slipped under the radar and I think Carol actually helped us in the end.

Finally though, Carol was gone and dealing with her own legal problems, and the board cleared everything. We got back to work, unveiled the self-driving buses, and now we’re just trying to find out whether the whole thing is going to be worth our time.

“You sure you want to know?” he asks, grinning.

“Come on, Baker. These ride numbers are so important.”

  “I know. If they’re low, we’re screwed.”

  “Stop playing around.”

He laughs and gives me a thumbs-up. “They’re high. Like, really high.”

I can’t help but giggle with delight. “How high?”

“Double our estimate. I think that’s probably because they’re a novelty. There are some reports of vandalized buses and stuff like that, but overall, the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. The buses are cheaper, more efficient, and nicer than traditional buses. People like them.”

I lean back in my chair, feeling so relieved. “Oh my god. I want to cry, I’m so happy.”

He laughs, clearly relieved himself. “I know how you feel. If this had gone south, after all the drama last year, I don’t know what would happen to this company.”

“So what now?” I ask him.

“Well, we’ve already gotten some interest from other city governments about the buses. We’re going to start negotiating with them.”

“Not giving them away for free?”

“Nope. That was just Philadelphia. Although they’re locked into a maintenance plan with us for the next ten years.”

“Nothing’s ever totally free, is it?”

  “Of course not.”

I sigh and stretch my legs out. “Congratulations, Baker.”

“Thanks. I couldn’t have gotten to this point without you, you know.”

“Come on. You had it all basically done by the time I showed up.”

“Mostly true. But after what happened, I realized something.”

  “What?”

He gets up and comes around his desk again, this time sitting in the chair next to mine.

“I was stretched thin,” he says softly, taking my hand in his. I instinctively glance over my shoulder at the office, but he doesn’t take his eyes off mine. “I was working all the time, existing just to work, really. And that’s no way to live.”

“And then you found me?” I ask him, half kidding.

But his eyes are serious, not playing around. “Absolutely,” he whispers. “Then I found you and things changed. Even during that whole shit last year, I didn’t care about any of it. There was just the two of us, having fun, being together.”

“Yeah. You’re right. It wasn’t that bad, once we just…”

“Once we figured out how we felt about each other.” He grins at me and leans closer, kissing me gently but quickly. “So now Carol is long gone and the company’s on the precipice of something really good. And you know what? I think I’m ready for a change.”

“Oh, yeah? What kind of change?”

He drops down to one knee in front of me and I feel my heart just stop dead in my chest.

He pulls a little black box from his jacket pocket. He looks into my eyes, taking my left hand in his.

“I want to marry you,” he says softly.

  “Yes.”

  He grins. “I didn’t ask.”

“I know you didn’t. You don’t need to.”

He opens the box. The ring is magnificent, gorgeous, so totally over the top. The diamond is huge, flanked by other sparkling, shimmering diamonds, too many to count.

  “Baker,” I gasp.

He slips it down onto my finger… a perfect fit. Of course it’s perfect. I bet he planned this for weeks.

“I wanted to propose to you where I fell in love with you,” he says. “It’s a shame it’s this office, but here we are. I love you, Taylor. I love you more than I ever thought possible. Be my wife.”

“Yes,” I say again, and this time we kiss without any thoughts about the rest of the office.

This is what I needed. This is what I’ve always dreamed of. My man, my Baker, my boss. I’m going to be with him forever, be his wife, have his babies. I want him to take care of me and I know I’ll take care of him.

I don’t care about the office, about anything else. In this moment, my life is perfect. This is what it feels like to be complete. All the stars align, all my life begins to glow.

This is my man, my love, my future husband.

When we’re finished in private, he takes me out into the office and announces it to everyone. “My wife!” he shouts, with a huge grin on his face, and the whole office claps their approval.

I feel like a star, like a princess. I feel like the luckiest person in the world. I’m the center of the universe and it’s all because of him.

  Baker, the man I love.

“Ready for this?” he whispers in my ear as the office cheers.

  “I’m ready.”

  We kiss one more time.
