When she got a lock on him, she teleported herself and Samira to Teri’s location .
Chapter Four
On the way to Dark Moon Falls, Mary had fallen asleep curled up into Teri’s side, still clinching his T-shirt in her fist. After he made sure she was in a deep sleep, he uncurled her fingers to flatten her hand over his heart. Mary had always been like a little sister to him.
She was about fifteen years younger than he was but that didn’t stop her from following them around. Shane was the lone human in their high school group of friends. He didn’t care either. The human always acted like one of the pack—that was how he met his wolf mate, Cathy.
A few years after graduation, Mary came to live with Shane and his parents, who were her grandparents. Her parents were murdered right in front of her. She was only five at the time. Shane had taken her under his wing and when his parents passed away from natural causes, he took over as Mary’s guardian. That also meant Mary was pack since by that time Cathy and Shane had mated.
Out of all of Shane’s friends and the members of the pack, Mary had claimed Teri as her older brother. Teri liked that because, besides Levi and Grace, Teri didn’t have a family.
Luca maneuvered the SUV through town before turning onto the road that led to Shane's home that was set in the mountain just outside of town. Most of the Pack lived in the mountain surrounding the town.
It wasn’t long before they hit Shane’s narrow gravel driveway. The male, along with his mate, Cathy, were out the front door before the SUV came to a stop in front of the single-story cabin.
Gathering Mary in his arms, Teri slid out of the backseat when Luca opened the door. Teri adjusted the female to carry her inside more comfortably. She didn’t even stir, which proved just how tired she must have been. Gods, he hated the thought that she hadn’t slept the entire time she was held captive. Plus, the terror she’d gone through…
Teri worked his jaw and tried to reign in his wolf. Having the beast going crazy would only fuel Mary’s fears more.
Shane rushed to him and went to take her, but Teri shook his head. “I got her. She needs to sleep.”
Cathy darted into the house ahead of them, and Teri followed her down the hall to Mary’s bedroom. By the time Teri entered the room, Cathy had pulled the bedding back.
As soon as Teri lowered Mary onto the mattress and went to move away, she grabbed his shirt again. He took her hands in his and pressed a tender kiss to her forehead. “Shh. You’re home, safe. Get some sleep.”
She made a soft sound and muttered something he couldn’t make out. Then she fell into a deep sleep again.
Straightening, he ushered Shane and Cathy out of the room, closing the door behind them. They didn’t speak until they got into the kitchen. Luca had already started a pot of coffee even though it was late afternoon. No one seemed to mind. Cathy took over and shooed Luca to sit.
Teri knew Luca wouldn’t sit. He never let his guard down around others. Around his twin sister and the other hunters was the only time Luca appeared relaxed. Even then, he was on alert.
“What happened?” Shane demanded as he settled into a chair at the dining table.
Teri took a seat across from him. “Mary said he didn’t touch her. He did terrorize her. Vicky said he had sold his soul to a demon. I’ll have to talk to her and get more information.”
“Where is Bill now?”
“Dead.”
Silence filled the room. After a moment, Cathy said, “Good.”
Teri nodded and accepted the cup of coffee she handed him. He would have liked the bastard to suffer a little more before killing him. Vicky…Damn, he’d never seen her so fierce, ruthless. And he didn’t know what it said about him to be turned on by just how deadly she was when she reached into Bill’s chest and pushed the fire into him.
That was fucked up on so many levels—his feelings and her display of violence.
“I can’t thank you enough for bringing her back to us.” Shane glanced at the hallway. “She’s all I have left of my sister.”
Teri nodded, sipping his coffee. The murder of Shane’s sister and her husband was a blow to the whole family. Mary especially had a hard time with reality for a while. Especially when she learned there were other things in the world besides humans. Yet, she accepted Cathy and Teri, even Levi, easily. Cathy said it was because, as a strong pack, the Dark Moon Falls wolves were protective to a fault. Mary felt safe with them.
He agreed.
A tingle of awareness made Teri jerk his attention to the front door just as a knock sounded. “That’s Vicky.”
He didn’t understand how he could sense her when she was near. Earlier, when he told her to teleport to him, he was testing her. He wanted to know if she could seek him out and port right to him. It couldn’t be from the one time of weakness that lead to their one night together. The night she bit and drank from him. However, that was months ago. Surly, the link from sharing his blood had faded.
Apparently not.
Vicky’s honey scent wrapped around him as she entered the house and followed Cathy into the kitchen.
Samira crossed to her brother, taking his coffee from him.
Watching Vicky and sensing a slight tension in the air coming from both females, Teri asked, “Everything okay?”
“Of course. How’s Mary?”
“She’s resting.” Teri stood, glancing at Samira. The female gave him a tight-lipped smile, meaning she wasn’t spilling.
Fine. Vicky would tell him.
As if sensing the tension coming from Teri, Shane said, “I’ll call you when she wakes. It might be a good idea to talk to her tomorrow.”
He was right. Turning to Vicky, he asked, “Would you like to go to dinner?”
“I can eat.”
Cathy took Vicky’s hands in hers. “Thank you so much for finding her and bringing her home.”
“It was a group effort.” Vicky pulled the female into a hug. “Let us know if you need anything.”
Cathy nodded and leaned into Shane as he came up behind her. Luca and Samira said their good-byes and left. Teri hesitated for a moment before he motioned Vicky to the door. Part of him wanted to stay for when Mary woke, but he needed to talk to Vicky alone to find out what happened with retrieving the stone.
That was something Shane and his mate didn’t need to worry about. Teri hoped it wouldn’t be something any of them had to worry about much longer.
* * *
Vicky followed Teri out of Shane and Cathy’s home and across the yard and watched the storm of emotions dancing in his features.
“I thought we could walk.” Teri glanced at her and drew his brows together. “My wolf wants out.”
“Let him out. I’ve met him before.” Was he asking her for permission or warning her his wolf wouldn’t be in a mood? She was banking on the latter.
Without another word, he gave into his wolf. A flash of magic and fur erupted, leaving behind a grey wolf.
The wolf started circling her as she continued to walk. There was no way she’d let him get all protective with her. “Hey, gorgeous. Want to play?”
When he butted his head against her leg, she took off through the forest, going faster than a human but not using her vamp speed. The wolf chased her. They ran together, jumping over fallen trees and a small stream. Well, she jumped over the stream, Teri ran right through it.
Right after he got himself soaked, he jumped up on her, placing his paws on her shirt over her belly. “Hey, now.” She pushed him playfully and took off again.
She’d played with his wolf before. She’d also watched the wolf play with the other hunters’ wolves and found it fascinating and amazing how they knew each other’s moves as they were play fighting.
At that moment, Teri was so focused on her. She used her vampire speed to keep the wolf from catching her. She couldn’t allow him to, not yet anyway.
When they reached his cabin, she rushed inside and slammed the door, laughing at the growls outsi
de. Moments later, the door flew open and her hot-ass male stalked inside, his heated gaze locked onto her.
Desire rushed through her veins like a wildfire, awakening her fire inside her core. He prowled toward her, his shoulders rolling with each step.
She backed up until her back was against the wall. One side of his mouth twitched as he closed the distance until he pressed his body to hers. “Why are you still clothed?”
Using her magic, she willed hers and his clothes to disappear, teleporting them into his bedroom on the other side of the wall she was pressed against.
A low rumble of a sound came from him, like part growl part moan. His wolf flashed in his eyes as he dipped his head until his mouth covered hers in a raw, hungry kiss. Every nerve ending in her body flared to life as if they’d been shocked by electricity. Desire burned in her belly and traveled lower while her fangs lengthened.
She fisted her hands into his short hair and tugged him closer. Yet he wasn’t close enough. She needed to feel him, all of him, inside and out.
As if knowing what she wanted, Teri cupped one of her breasts, rolling a taut nipple between his fingers. Pinpricks of sensation covered her skin, and her pussy throbbed, begging for his touch, his caress.
A moment later, Teri grabbed her ass and lifted so her feet were off the floor. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he walked to toward the bed. Each movement sent a jolt of electrified desire straight to her core. She let a whimper at the same time. It’d been too long since they’d had the release they needed.
She gasped as the cool, satin sheets touched her bare back, but she didn’t take her eyes off the gorgeous male hovering above her. He was all hers.
His warm fingers caressed her belly as he traced them lightly over her skin. She focused on Teri as he stared down at her, hunger in his green depths.
“You are so beautiful.” His voice came out husky.
He dipped his head and pressed a kiss to one nipple and then the other before he nipped his way down her stomach to the inside of her right thigh. A half-growl, half-moan escaped her when he gently bit down.
When he slid a finger inside her, she nearly came. “Fuck, that feels good.”
He chuckled and held her gaze as he lowered his head and licked her from her entrance to her clit in a slow, lazy stroke. Pleasure overtook her as Teri closed his mouth over her, sucking her lips as he slid another finger inside and pumped them in and out until she was drunk with pleasure.
She fisted her hands in his hair and moved against him, riding the wave of passion. Each lick of his tongue sparked the flame within, making it grow brighter and hotter. Her magic flowed through her, wild. Pleasure built, and she picked up the pace, her body jerking as she climaxed.
Teri withdrew his fingers and crawled up her body, stopping to suck on her nipple as he did. Goosebumps covered her body, and her pussy ached, wanting more of him. She grabbed his arms and tugged. “I need you inside me now.”
The power was growing. She felt as if she’d explode at any moment.
Wrapping a leg around him, she flipped them over and sank down on his impossibly hard cock. Fuck, it felt good to have him inside her. She moved her hips and began to ride him. Teri gripped her hips, squeezing.
As her pleasure built, so did her magic. When she slowed the tempo, worried she’d lose control, Teri flipped them once more so he was on top. He cupped her face, forcing her to meet his concerned stare. “Don’t fight it.”
She didn’t have time to respond before he thrust inside her and bit her neck. She cried out, scoring his back with her nails and tightening her legs around him. Pain from the bite turned to dizzying pleasure that flowed through her like liquid heat.
Teri’s body jerked, and his muscles tightened under her hands, then he roared in release. A moment later, Vicky screamed as the orgasm slammed into her. Her control over her magic slipped. A flash of power blasted through the room.
Chapter Five
“Did you get the stone?”
Vicky lifted her head form Teri’s chest and conjured the puzzle box she and Samira retrieved from the magical library. She told him what happened at the site. “When I found the coordinates to the library, I had to solve a puzzle. It was more like a riddle. So this puzzle box doesn’t surprise me.”
Teri took it and studied the thing, turning this way and that way. “I’ve never had the patience for these things.”
With a breathy laugh, she took it from him and sat up, tucking one leg under her. “Scarlett is good with puzzles. We could take it to her to see if she can open it.”
He ran his hand up her leg, sending sparks of desires clawing over her skin. Then he took the box back and set it on the end table. “It can wait until the morning.” Sitting up, he pressed his lips to hers. “Tonight, I want to be selfish and have you to myself.”
The flutter of butterfly wings went off inside her belly. They’d known for a long time that they were mates and avoided the subject, even after their fling a few months back. No, especially after their one-nighter because it only confirmed what they suspected all along.
Deeping the kiss, she framed his face in her hands, loving the way their mouths moved against each other. He swiped his tongue into her mouth, and she grabbed hold of it and sucked, drawing a feral moan from him.
Then his phone rang.
Vicky broke the kiss, amusement filling her. It was most likely his Alpha, Elias or one of the other hunters.
Teri let out a growl as he reached for his phone. His features softened when he looked at the screen to see who it was. “It’s Mary,” he said before answering. “Hello.”
Vicky settled down on the bed beside him, her supernatural hearing picking up the entire conversation.
“Hi,” Mary said in a soft, sleepy tone.
“Is everything okay?” Teri glanced at Vicky with his brows drawn.
‘’Yeah, I’m home and safe.” Mary paused before saying, “I just woke and wanted to call you before aunt Cathy realizes I’m awake.”
“You know us wolves, our senses tell us everything,” Teri teased while lacing his fingers with Vicky’s.
Mary laughed. “Thank you.”
The crack in the female’s tone pulled at Vicky’s heart. “Tell her that I can take the memories away.”
Telepathy was something most vampires had. Being a Gifted, made her natural abilities stronger than the average vamp.
“Who’s that? Am I interrupting—”
“No, you’re not,” Teri said, cutting off Mary’s apology. “It’s Vicky.”
Mary was silent for a moment. When she spoke, there was a smile in her tone. “The Gifted you told me about?”
So he told Mary about her? Yet the male hadn’t shared his feeling with Vicky. She didn’t know whether to be upset with him for avoiding the mating for so long or happy that she was always on his mind. Maybe she’d be both.
“She was the one to find you.”
“She was there.” Mary got quiet for a couple of moments. “Tell her, thank you.”
Teri kissed Vicky’s fingers and got out of bed, switching the phone to speaker so he could dress. “How are you feeling, Mary?”
Vicky reached over the bed and grabbed the puzzle box, then got up and dressed.
“I’m not sure, and I don’t want to talk about what happened right now.”
Teri sighed as he exited the bedroom. “Vicky said she could take your memories. Of your captivity, I mean. That if they get too much—”
“No. It’s fine. I think I need them for now. There’s something…I don’t know. Bill said some things that didn’t make since, but I need time to process everything.” Mary paused, then there was the sound of someone speaking in the background. “I have to go. They discovered I’m awake and no doubt want to be close to me.”
“Shifters can’t turn off the need to protect. Shane may be human, but he’s mated to a shifter and can pick up on her feelings and instincts.” Entering the kitchen, he set the phone on the counter
and opened the refrigerator.
“I know and I’m not complaining. I’ll never complain again.”
Even though Mary let out a laugh, Vicky heard sadness in the words. It angered her all the more. Teri faced Vicky, studying her as he said, “Go be with your uncle and aunt and let them cuddle you close. Call me or text if you remember what Bill said.”
“I will.” Mary paused. “Thank you again. Bye.”
The call ended and Teri moved into Vicky’s space. “What’s wrong.”
Flattening her hands on his bare chest and sliding them up over his shoulders, she said, “I wish I made Bill’s death more painful.”
Teri’s wolf flashed in his blue depths, brightening them. “So violent.”
She laughed then frowned. “My heart hurts for Mary.”
“She’s like a little sister to me. It killed me to see her so…broken looking.” Teri pressed his forehead to Vicky’s. “But she’s strong and has a great support system.”
Nodding, Vicky pulled back and searched his features. “There are several things I don’t understand. Like why he sold his soul for starters?”
“And why kidnap Mary?” Teri turned back to the fridge. “What do you want for dinner?”
“Surprise me.” She glanced at the time on the stove. “You’re going to cook this late?”
“It’s only 8:00. Besides aren’t you up all night?”
“Not usually. Maybe more times than not.” She walked to him and peeked inside the still opened fridge. “How about we call something to be delivered. Or I can call Scarlett to come over and pick up something on the way. That way she can look at the box.”
Teri closed the fridge and nodded. “Okay, but you have to choose what’s for dinner.”
