He turned around trying to find the men behind him. Pain shot through his shoulder and his leg. Still he brought up the gun and shot a man with a rifle. Then his arm was hit with a barrel of a shotgun and the pistol fell from his grip.
A blow to the back of his head stunned him. He still heard gunfire, but the men were dragging him out towards the street. He could hear their laughter and their cheers as he was dragged past them.
They set him down leaning his back against the tire of a vehicle. They were passing around beers from a cooler. Still he heard gunfire, but it wasn't coming from the direction of the dojo.
The men were still laughing and pointing as a zombie came around the side of the vehicle. They didn't seem concerned. A few pointed weapons at it, but it was coming towards him and they were going to let it.
The zombie was male, but it wore a heavy coat. It was out of place that it would be wearing a coat. But coat or not it was coming to eat him. He lifted his left arm up to fend it off. The arm was still mostly numb and seemed to move slowly.
As the zombie stumbled for him. Marcus saw a blinking red light inside the things jacket. That was also out of place.
Nineteen
Sahir couldn't believe how stupid the marauders were being. Even though he had shot down two of their guards there was no reaction to it from those who were attacking what seemed to be a dojo.
Nizaam was already up to their trucks. Now some of them were pointing at him and laughing. They were letting the zombie come closer.
Sahir knew it was time. Nizaam was in the cluster of vehicles. He could not have hoped for better positioning. He ducked back around the corner of the building and pressed the button on the transmitter.
The explosion rocked him. Debris fell down from the sky for more than a minute afterward. He peered back around the corner and saw the devastation. There was a crater in the road at the blast point. The vehicles had been thrown back from that spot. They were tipped over and burning. Bodies and parts of bodies lay everywhere.
The vehicles were burning. A cloud of smoke rose above the scene. Sahir smiled. Now you will know fear. He rose, checked his AK-47 and walked out into the carnage.
There was less blood than he expected. He wondered if that was because the concussion had killed them or the blood had been thrown clear of the bodies during the explosion. Was that even possible?
On the other side of the road, past the vehicles, near what was left of the dojo he saw the movement of a survivor. Sahir shot the man in the back of the head. Survivor or zombie? He really didn't care. He moved towards the building.
As he neared he heard movement from inside. He waited and watched as two women staggered outside. He pointed his AK-47 at them. They looked at him strangely and then raised their hands. Well, well now. Maybe these were his promised virgins. If not they were still his to do with as he pleased. He motioned with the barrel of his gun for them to move and they did. It was time to vacate this place before the others came to see what had happened.
