My wife Margaret has been a great support during the time I researched and wrote this novel over the past two years. She travelled with me to La Palma where we explored all the locations mentioned in the book. In Greenland, I visited most of the key sites – apart from the Summit Station – and met many guides and locals who were so proud of their wonderful nation. The Marine Institute was generous in allowing me to visit the RV Celtic Explorer and Oisín McManus gave me many insights about the operations of the research vessel. Many thanks to Kevin Treacy, Jim Kinsella, Sean O’Keeffe, Adrian White and Peter O’Neill who reviewed the draft manuscript. Ferdia Mac Anna gave me great insights about turning what at the time was a rough draft into a readable book. Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin (www.writing.ie) has been a stalwart providing me with valuable advice and contacts. Andrew and Rebecca Brown of Ardel Media were a great help in getting the book over the line and in the setting up of www.iceapelago.com. I owe a particular debt of gratitude to Niamh Hatton who in a very professional manner copy-edited the book and proofed the final manuscript.
