I Am Overlord c1-962

"I am taking the lead. Stop wasting time. Go, I need to make some preparations." Xiang Shaoyun glared at Dong Zi.
"Fine, you're the boss." Dong Zi resentfully gave Xiang Shaoyun the middle finger.
With his identity, he had always been the one to order others around. Today, he was being ordered around instead, and he had a hard time accepting it. After Dong Zi left, Xiang Shaoyun did not actually make his "preparations". Instead, he stood there staring at the cave attentively.
This is likely a place of burial. Otherwise, such a large zombie disaster wouldn't have erupted. But is the zombie disaster a natural occurrence or is it man-made? If it is the latter, something sinister might come into existence as well. Well, since I've stumbled upon it, I might as well try doing something, Xiang Shaoyun pondered.
Soon, Dong Zi returned with some wood and flint.
When Xiang Shaoyun saw the small number of wood gathered, he was rendered speechless.
"How stupid are you? I am planning to attack them with fire. With three branches and that tiny flint, what the hell can we do?" Xiang Shaoyun berated with disdain.
Chapter 143: Time to Start a Fire
Berated by Xiang Shaoyun, Dong Zi felt so wronged he nearly cried then and there.
Xiang Shaoyun realized that his tone was a tad bit too harsh, so he toned down and said, "Alright, wait here. I'll be back shortly."
Behaving like a little girl when you're a grown ass man. What the hell, Xiang Shaoyun grumbled inwardly.
Looking at Xiang Shaoyun walking away, Dong Zi glanced at the blackfur corpses only to feel a chill up his spine before he quickly ran after Xiang Shaoyun.
"Sorry, it was my fault," Dong Zi apologized.
"Forget it, I was wrong too," Xiang Shaoyun replied. He then added, "Those sinister beings are scared of fire. We need to gather more wood and flint to chase them out of the cave so we can start exploring it."
"You're so smart!" Dong Zi opened his eyes wide and stared at Xiang Shaoyun in a worshiping manner.
Not really. You're just stupid in comparison, Xiang Shaoyun grumbled inwardly.
Soon, they gathered a large amount of wood and some flint. The so-called flint was in fact merely some old and dry stones that could easily create sparks when rubbed together.
"Alright, store them all in your storage bracelet. Come with me when you're done," Xiang Shaoyun said.
"Huh? How did you know I have a storage bracelet?" Dong Zi asked in astonishment.
Xiang Shaoyun was already numbed by this stupidity as he answered helplessly, "Please, you already exposed yourself when you took out the pills and armors earlier."
An awkward look covered Dong Zi's face, and he said, "Looks like I have been careless." He paused for a bit before saying, "But I don't have enough space for all this wood."
Xiang Shaoyun sighed and said, "We will carry them over, then."
He was not about to expose his secret, especially to a stranger he had just met. Thus, they piled the wood and tied it up before carrying it to the cave.
When they were near the cave, Dong Zi said, "There are still a lot of blackfur corpses. What should we do about them?"
"Wait," Xiang Shaoyun said calmly.
"What do you mean?" Dong Zi was confused.
Xiang Shaoyun ignored the question. He shut his eyes and began to wait in silence. Dong Zi felt awkward at being ignored and was too embarrassed to continue asking.
Hmph. You think you're so smart, huh? If you ignore me, I'll ignore you too! Dong Zi thought resentfully.
Thus, he sat down and turned to face the other way. Not far away, some of the blackfur corpses were roaming around aimlessly, while others were busy feasting on the corpses on the ground. None had noticed Xiang Shaoyun and Dong Zi.
Every now and then, some black mist would drift out of the cave and slowly spread in the air. Gradually, the sky darkened, and a gust of chilly wind swept past them. The chilly wind scared Dong Zi so much he hugged himself and sat closer to Xiang Shaoyun.
"Hey, it's getting dark," Dong Zi said when he saw that Xiang Shaoyun was still silently sitting cross-legged.
Xiang Shaoyun ignored him, seemingly in deep meditation.
Hu! Hu!
The whistling sound of the wind grew louder, scaring Dong Zi to the point he grabbed at Xiang Shaoyun's sleeve and trembled. It was now that Xiang Shaoyun finally opened his eyes and said, "Time to start a fire."
"Fire? What? I say we leave!" Dong Zi said.
"You are the one who wants to find out what's in the cave. And now, you want to leave. What exactly do you want?" Xiang Shaoyun complained.
"B-but...I'm afraid of the dark!" Dong Zi said as he stuck closely to Xiang Shaoyun.
Xiang Shaoyun shot Dong Zi a look of disdain before walking toward the pile of wood. He undid the binding and spread the wood around. During this, Dong Zi stuck closely to Xiang Shaoyun like a tail.
"Wait here. I'll carry some of the wood to the cave. Set it on fire when I tell you to, do you understand?" Xiang Shaoyun said before he left with a large bundle of wood.
"Hey, hey...I-I'm scared!" Dong Zi stamped his foot and said.
If Xiang Shaoyun saw how Dong Zi was behaving, he would probably call him a crossdresser inwardly again. What kind of man would behave like that?
"Howl!"
The blackfur corpses were very sensitive to the smell of blood. The moment Xiang Shaoyun approached, they dashed toward him by relying on their sharp senses. There were still a few dozen blackfur corpses left, and the sight of them all rushing toward a single person was a scary one.
Before they had a chance to surround Xiang Shaoyun, he used his Overlord's Nine Nether Steps to move past them, approach the cave, and toss the wood to it. Right this moment, two blackfur corpses pounced on him.
Xiang Shaoyun did a backflip and kicked the two blackfur corpses, sending them flying over 10 meters away. He took the chance to crush the flint he had on him before scattering them. Meanwhile, the blackfur corpses surrounded him and roared without stop.
Xiang Shaoyun showed no fear. With the Overlord's Nine Nether Steps, he moved among the blackfur corpses like a specter at a speed none of the blackfur corpses could touch. Soon, the entire area was filled with flint powder that trailed straight toward the pile of wood he had tossed to the cave earlier.
"Start the fire!" Xiang Shaoyun shouted.
Unfortunately, Dong Zi was currently leaning against a tree and trembling in fear. When he heard Xiang Shaoyun's shout, he tried to set the wood on fire to no avail.
At this point, Xiang Shaoyun was already surrounded by a large number of blackfur corpses. Some started to pounce Xiang Shaoyun while others started to spit poisonous gas from their mouths. A regular person would become dizzy and nauseous once they came in contact with this poisonous gas.
Since Xiang Shaoyun had the poison discharge pill in his mouth, he was still immune to regular poison. He stopped dodging and started counterattacking the blackfur corpses.
Gold Helix Fist!
His fist shot out as fast as lightning; the might of his fist crushed forth as fist energy swirling with vicious gold energy shot forward and spiraled like a drill.
Bang!
The fist blew out the chest of a blackfur corpse. Xiang Shaoyun assumed that the blackfur corpse he hit would be dead from that, but he found that the blackfur corpse was still capable of moving. In fact, the blackfur corpse was now hugging his arm as it opened its mouth wide to bite Xiang Shaoyun.
"Piss off!" Xiang Shaoyun roared as he raised his arm and swung the blackfur corpse toward the other blackfur corpses.
Even as the blackfur corpse flew away, it managed to claw Xiang Shaoyun's arm with its sharp nails. Fortunately, Xiang Shaoyun's flesh was much tougher than a regular cultivator's, and the nails could not dig into his flesh. Otherwise, he would have been poisoned for sure.
Xiang Shaoyun did not dare to be careless. He attacked repeatedly, blasting one blackfur corpse's skull apart with each punch.
"Start the fire! What are you waiting for?" Xiang Shaoyun yelled.
Finally, Dong Zi was able to create a spark with the flint and set the wood on fire.
Bang! Bang!
Chapter 144: I Will Remember This!
The wood started burning. Normally, fire would need some time to spread. But since it was rather windy at the moment and the wind was blowing in the direction of the cave, the fire spread quickly. All this was part of Xiang Shaoyun's plan. With the wind's help, the fire surged and spread quickly along the trail of flint powder and wood. When the fire grew larger, Xiang Shaoyun started to approach the fire.
As for the blackfur corpses, fear could be seen on their faces, and they started retreating. It would seem they held an intense fear of fire. Some of them were unable to retreat in time and caught on fire. Due to the long black fur covering their bodies, the moment they caught on fire, the flame quickly spread across their bodies.
The blackfur corpses that caught on fire wailed miserably as they tried running back to the cave. But because of that, the fire spread even faster and burned even more of the blackfur corpses. Xiang Shaoyun found the scene comical, but at the same time, he also rejoiced in the fact that his plan had succeeded.
Dong Zi finally ran over to him and asked, "Are you fine?"
"You nearly ruined everything!" Xiang Shaoyun grumbled.
"S-sorry!" Dong Zi lowered his head.
"Forget it. See all of them as your enemies, sweep the fear out of your heart, and you will no longer fear them." Xiang Shaoyun waved his hand.
It was unknown if Dong Zi actually understood what Xiang Shaoyun was trying to tell him, but he was nodding repeatedly. The fire was still spreading wildly, and the pile of wood at the entrance of the cave was burning. This was a fire that had spread so easily thanks to the wind. Dong Zi finally understood why Xiang Shaoyun waited so long before acting on his plan. He stole a glance at Xiang Shaoyun, an odd light flickering in his eyes.
"Shit!" Xiang Shaoyun suddenly cried out.
That shocked Dong Zi who then asked nervously, "What?"
"The Blackhill Sect might be the one to benefit from this fire. I believe they will be here soon," Xiang Shaoyun said with his eyes narrowed.
"Uhh...you're not a Blackhill Sect disciple?" Dong Zi asked after a slight hesitation.
"When have I ever claimed to be a Blackhill Sect disciple?" Xiang Shaoyun asked.
"You lied to me!" Furious, Dong Zi pointed at Xiang Shaoyun.
"You are the one making assumptions. I never admitted to being a Blackhill Sect disciple, so how am I the liar?" Xiang Shaoyun no longer minded Dong Zi knowing the truth.
"B-but why didn't you tell me the truth, then?" Dong Zi asked, still unhappy.
"I don't even know you. Is there a need to tell you the truth?" Xiang Shaoyun countered, feeling somewhat helpless at the stupid questions.
He found that the kid before him was really naively foolish, and wondered which family the kid came from. Dong Zi was about to say more when he heard roars coming from the cave. The fire had finally spread into the cave, and since there were other flammable objects inside, the fire started to spread even more once inside. A large number of blackfur corpses on fire ran out of the cave. They did not go far, as they had all collapsed shortly after running out of the cave.
"Your trick is way too effective!" Dong Zi cried out in astonishment.
"Wait here. I'll go get some water." Xiang Shaoyun ignored the remark and ran toward a certain direction looking for water. But of course Dong Zi refused to stay alone as he stuck closely to Xiang Shaoyun. When looking for wood earlier, Xiang Shaoyun had found a swamp nearby. Although there wasn't a lot of water, it would do for now.
"What can we do with this little water? Is it even enough to extinguish the fire?" Dong Zi asked.
Xiang Shaoyun rolled his eyes. "How stupid are you exactly? Who told you I'm going to extinguish the fire?"
"What are you going to do otherwise?" Dong Zi asked meekly. After making sure that there was nothing wrong with the swamp, Xiang Shaoyun jumped inside.
"Hey, that's so dirty!" Dong Zi complained as he pinched his nose.
"You, come down here too," Xiang Shaoyun said.
"No way!" Dong Zi took a step back.
Xiang Shaoyun crawled out of the swamp and said sternly, "Have you not heard that after making yourself wet, you will have a certain degree of protection against fire?"
Dong Zi was no fool. He was merely too innocent and a bit slow, as he had previously been too sheltered. With Xiang Shaoyun giving him such a clear hint, he understood what Xiang Shaoyun was trying to do.
"B-but..th-the water is so dirty!" Dong Zi protested meekly.
Xiang Shaoyun couldn't be bothered to continue the argument so he kicked Dong Zi's backside and sent him into the swamp.
"You scoundrel!" Dong Zi yelled furiously when he found himself soaked in mud.
"Cut the nonsense. Get a piece of wet cloth and wrap it around your face. Come with me into the cave when you're done," Xiang Shaoyun said.
Seeing how serious Xiang Shaoyun was behaving, Dong Zi stopped arguing and did as told before crawling out of the swamp.
"I will remember this!" Dong Zi threatened angrily.
When he thought of where Xiang Shaoyun had kicked him earlier, he had an urge to beat Xiang Shaoyun up.
Xiang Shaoyun ignored Dong Zi's antics and rushed toward the cave. He was aware that the Blackhill Sect members were likely to arrive soon. He had to search the cave before that. He put on the king-grade armor Dong Zi had given him and said, "Think properly before coming. The moment we enter, things might get dangerous. If you are scared, don't go."
"Bullshit. We will definitely reap a great harvest without encountering much danger," Dong Zi said. He paused slightly before saying resolutely, "I'm going!"
"Ok. Charge inside." Xiang Shaoyun nodded as he raised his Overlord Skyslaying Saber.
The Overlord Skyslaying Saber was recovering decently. The numerous cracks in it had closed up. Its blade also looked much cleaner and shinier, with only the chips on the blade remaining the same. When Dong Zi saw the saber, he said, "Your weapon is so badly damaged. How can you continue using it? Do you want me to give you a new weapon?"
"No thanks. Let's go," Xiang Shaoyun said. Then, he wrapped a piece of wet cloth around his face and charged into the cave.
Hmph. Ungrateful bastard. One day you will learn to thank this young la—master! Dong Zi complained inwardly before charging into the cave as well.
The fire wasn't too big in the cave, but the cave was filled with thick and suffocating smoke. With his extraordinary eyesight, Xiang Shaoyun was able to barely see what was in the cave. As for Dong Zi, he was as good as blind. In fact, the smoke caused him to tear without stop, the discomfort making him feel like immediately leaving.
"Cover your eyes with this. You will feel better." Xiang Shaoyun gave Dong Zi a piece of wet cloth.
The cloth was nearly transparent, so covering the eyes with it would not affect one's vision. Dong Zi took the cloth and covered his eyes, his heart thumping as he thought of the care Xiang Shaoyun showed him.
Chapter 145: You're Crazy
When Xiang Shaoyun and Dong Zi entered the cave, they found that it was quite deep. For some reason, Xiang Shaoyun had a bad feeling when he entered and saw that the fire could not spread any deeper; the blackcorpse poison had been growing thicker the deeper they went. If they each hadn't swallowed a poison discharge pill in advance, they would have died by now.
"This is troublesome. I never expected the cave to be so deep. Only some of the blackfur corpses have been burned, and we don't know if there are more inside. Just the blackcorpse poison is enough to give us a hard time." Xiang Shaoyun frowned.
"What should we do? Are we going to give up halfway?" Dong Zi asked.
"Of course not. Activate your shaped energy and try going deeper with the torch. But if we do find that the cave is too deep for us to explore, we wi
ll have no choice but to leave," Xiang Shaoyun said.
Thus, the two activated their shaped energy to protect themselves from the poison in the air.
Xiang Shaoyun had the innate purple lightning in him, a power of extreme yang. Thus, any blackcorpse poison, a power with yin property, that approached him would be destroyed.
When Xiang Shaoyun saw that, he was overjoyed. Why have I not thought of this? Lightning power is actually a counter to the poison!
He was only aware of fire being a counter for poison. But now, he realized that lightning had the same effect as well. As for Dong Zi's shaped energy, it was green in color. Clearly, he cultivated some sort of wood energy that was unable to restrain the poison. Seeing that, Xiang Shaoyun placed his hand on Dong Zi's shoulder, trying to protect Dong Zi with his lightning energy as well.
No matter what kind of background Dong Zi had, Xiang Shaoyun concluded that this was not a scheming person from how stupid he had been so far. Thus, it was unlikely that Dong Zi would be a threat to him.
But as soon as his hand touched Dong Zi's shoulder, Dong Zi moved. He grabbed Xiang Shaoyun's hand with one hand and elbowed Xiang Shaoyun's belly with his other arm. It was a clean and direct attack that was conducted so naturally it seemed like the action was innately ingrained in him. Thus, Xiang Shaoyun, who had just concluded that Dong Zi posed no threat, was immediately struck.
Bang!
Dong Zi attacked with an enormous force that immediately created cracks in Xiang Shaoyun's outer energy. Fortunately, Xiang Shaoyun already had his inner energy formed as well. Otherwise, this one attack would have seriously injured him.
And yet Dong Zi did not seem like he was going to stop. He shouted, "I'll kill you, pervert!"
He bent down while still tightly grabbing Xiang Shaoyun's arm and performed a shoulder throw on Xiang Shaoyun.
Bang!
Caught completely off guard, Xiang Shaoyun was slammed onto the ground. Then, Dong Zi drew his sword and stabbed the sword at Xiang Shaoyun, who was still on the ground.
