Blood Metal Bone: An epic new fantasy novel, perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo

Where would you like to live on Dohrsar?
It’s the one place in the novel not fully explored by the reader, but the White Wastes would be fascinating to me. I’m a mountain girl. I love the cold! I’d love to see ice castles and sprawling winter landscapes all the time!
Do you think there is a risk humans will behave like this when we start travelling across the stars?
I think there’s always a risk. As humans, we’re programmed to want more (to a fault) and if history has proven anything, we don’t typically learn from our mistakes. I’m hopeful we’d do better, but I wrote Karr and Cade’s side of the story because I wanted to show the unfortunate truth about people who crave power over goodness.
Would you like to jet across the stars yourself?
Honestly—no way!! I get carsick pretty easily, so all I can imagine is being space sick for months, and really regretting my decision to leave earth. LOL.
Do you have a writing routine?
I used to, before having a kid! Toddler life has taught me that you’ve got to just work on the fly, so I truly enter a sort of survival mode during my writing time. If I’ve got thirty minutes of time to write, I’ll make it work! It’s rare for me to have a long, drawn-out period of time to just focus on writing, like I used to—but honestly, I love it this way! It allows me to stay excited and use my time wisely when I’m given it. And coffee. I use my coffee very, very wisely.
Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to be an author?
Write more, care less. When I first began writing, I was so determined to see my books hit shelves someday that I lost the joy of writing along the way. I cared SO MUCH about the goal that I forgot to just enjoy the journey. If you want to write… write! Enjoy creating worlds and using your amazing talent! It’s truly a gift.
Who is your favourite author?
I’ve got quite a few. I love Sarah J. Maas’ brilliance in characters and plotting, C.S. Lewis’ ability to weave deep concepts into stories that kids can read and enjoy, Maureen Johnson’s witty mysteries, Erin Morgenstern’s absolutely buttery prose… too many to choose!
What is the book you wish you’d written?
Probably the entire Throne of Glass series, or The Night Circus. Those are very different books, but they’ve helped shape my writing style in their own ways.
What is your favourite way to relax when not writing?
I love going out to the barn and spending time alone, in the quiet, with my horse. Strangely enough, I also love working out, or reading a book by the pool, or going for a hike in the mountains, or journaling out my prayers. Anything that will help silence my mind for a while!
