Isaak: The Counterpunch Series Book 1
Page 26
The next thing I know Isaak is down on his knee, pulling a little black box from behind his back, opening it up.
I can’t help the gasp that leaves my lips, and this time, it’s not from the pain our baby is causing me. It’s sheer love for this man kneeling down before me with the whole world watching.
“Remme Rivers, you’re the light in my darkness, my strength when I feel weak. You’ve made my life worth living. The moment I saw you and you opened that sassy mouth of yours, I just knew I needed to make you mine. Being knocked off my feet never felt so good: it’s brought you into my life, Sweetcheeks. Not only am grateful for that, but now you’re gifting me with a baby boy. There are no words to describe how happy you and this baby make me. I love you both so much, and I promise to tell you both on a daily basis just how much you truly mean to me.”
I can’t see a thing: tears are flowing like water through an open flood gate. I wipe my hand over my eyes to clear most of them away.
“Will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?”
The arena is so quiet you could hear a pin drop as the crowd awaits my answer.
“Oh my God, Isaak. It’s beautiful.” I take in the ring that sits protected in the little black box. It’s a platinum band and set in the middle is a huge princess cut diamond with two smaller diamonds either side. It’s absolutely stunning and way too much.
“Don’t leave the poor man hanging down there, Remme. Say yes!”
I turn my head, smiling in the direction of where the voice came from, far out in the arena.
“Say yes, say yes, say yes.” Chanting starts around us, and soon, the whole stadium is letting us know they’re eager to find out the answer.
“You heard them, baby. What do you say? Wanna spend the rest of your life with me?”
My focus is now fully on Isaak. I don’t even need to think about it.
“Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you, Isaak.”
He launches himself at me, gently so as not to hurt me or the baby.
The overwhelming feeling of seeing Isaak down on one knee, has made me forget the fact that I’m in labour and he hasn’t a bloody clue either.
He lined the ring up with my wedding finger, slowly slipping it down, before he kisses my mouth long and hard.
When he pulls away, I whisper in his ear, “Can I have your baby, now?”
“What did you say, Sweetcheeks?” he questions, looking me over me making sure I’m okay.
“I said, can I have your baby now? I’m in labour, Isaak. My waters broke at the end of round six. Baby, we need to leave now,” I tell him as the pain starts up again.
“You’re joking with me, right?” His face turns to stone as he becomes frustrated.
“No, I’m not bloody joking, Isaak. This baby is coming any minute now,” I scream out at him, as a really intense pressure starts to build in my lower region.
“Holy shit, I’m going to be a father. You’re going to have my baby. Remme I…”
“Isaak, I’ll be having the baby on the canvas of this ring, in front of everyone, if you don’t get your arse moving,” I pant out, now getting frustrated myself.
After the photos the media released, Isaak would have a meltdown if the most intimate moment of our lives were to be broadcast across the world, so my screeching works. It gets his arse moving. He barks his orders out at Saxon and the rest of his security team as he picks me up bridal style and marches with purpose through the throngs of bodies and takes me out of the arena. The whole time he shouts, “She’s having my baby”, with a massive beaming grin plastered across his face.
He’s so adorable, it makes me crazy love him.
We’re outside and on the way to the hospital in record time.
“This is the first day of the rest of our lives, baby.”
“Us against the world, with our little Bruiser,” I add.
“I love you so much, Remme—so much it’s painful—but I’ll take this pain every single day as long as you’re in my life,” he whispers against my forehead.
“And I, you Isaak ‘The Bruiser’ Brookes, always.”
Epilogue
Isaak
Eight Months Later
“Hey, come on my little bruiser, smile for Daddy,” I coo to my mini me. I still can’t get my head around this tiny person being mine. He's eight months old and already has me wrapped around his little finger. I even do the night feeds when Remme is so tired that I have to force her to stay in bed. She is the best mummy to Logan Axel, and the ultimate wife. The day Remme said ‘I do’, looking absolutely breath-takingingly beautiful in white, will forever be tattooed in my heart. Some people would say it was a short engagement, but I couldn’t care less what they thought. We didn’t want to wait, and we both agreed not to wait. So, we tied the knot as soon as the venue she wanted became available.
She was perfect.
The day was perfect.
My life is now perfect.
We honeymooned in Australia. Her parents looked after Logan for us, while Remme and I enjoyed some alone time before collecting him and returning home.
“Isaak, you need to help me get the rest of the food into the other room.” she shouts over to me from the kitchen. Placing Logan in his bouncing chair, strapping him in, I get up and walk over to her, placing both my hands around her waist and fitting her against me.
“Mrs Brookes, what would you like me to do for you?” I say in a low seductive tone, the voice I know that does all kinds of things to her body. She spins in my hold and wraps her arms around my neck.
“Baby, what I want you to do for me, we don’t have time for.”
I growl knowing exactly what it is she wants. “You do know I can text everyone and cancel this whole thing if you really want,” I say jokingly. She swats my chest. I pretend to keel over in pain, mocking her.
“Isaak, don’t you dare do that. Today is about Logan,” she says sternly. I get up, laughing at her dramatics.
“Like I would, baby. Now, what do you need me to take through?”
After passing me the dishes, I leave her for the other room, hearing the door as I get there. Guests are starting to arrive. We christened our boy this morning. Choosing godparents had been hard. We have so many great people in our life right now, picking one person each was a tedious task. So, in the end we gave up and went with two each. I picked Owen and Saxon and Rem picked Devon and Charlotte. I wanted Saxon to be in our baby’s life. He’d protected my unborn child and Remme, no questions asked. To me, he seemed the perfect person to promise to protect him now he was in this world.
Making my way back to the kitchen, I hear loud, excited chatter—that can only mean the girls are here. I can’t help the chuckle that leaves me when I think about all the people that we now call family.
“Isaak, how’s it going?” Owen is the first to spot me as I walk over to him. We clasp hands and pull each other into a guy hug. I’m just about to answer him when the door’s intercom goes again, announcing more people arriving.
“I’ll get it,” I shout to Remme, already heading to the door.
Letting in what looks like the rest of the guests, I say my hellos and shake hands or exchange hugs with everyone that passes me on their way in. Once the last one is greeted, I make my way to the kitchen where Remme is already trying to usher our guest to the entertainment room. Picking up Logan who’s still in his chair, I follow everyone out of the kitchen.
“Look, little man: all these people are here for you.”
Logan gives me the beaming smile I was trying to coax out of him earlier. My heart swells with pride. Placing him back down by Rem’s feet, and standing back up to my full height, I place a quick peck on her cheek.
“You ready, baby?” I ask.
“With you, Isaak, I’m ready for anything.” She smiles and wraps her arm around my back leaving her hand on the top of my arse cheek making me growl just a little.
“Can I have your attention
, please,” I shout over the hustle to be heard. Everyone stops instantly, looking our way.
“Remme and I just want to thank you all for coming. I know family rules force some of you to attend.” There's a round of laughter as I continue on. “But today isn’t just about Logan being christened. Today we have other news to share.” Placing my free hand on my wife’s tummy, I look lovingly into her eyes. “My wife and I are six weeks pregnant with our second child.” A loud round of applause erupts as everyone moves towards us with hugs, well wishes and congratulations.
Once all the excitement dies down, I head over to a seat by the door, needing a moment of quiet to take everything and everyone in. Watching as my entire world mingles, everyone laughing and joking with each other, my wife with our baby on her hip, glowing as she makes her way around the room.
How did I get so lucky?
Saxon leans on the door frame on the opposite side of the door, casting his eyes over everyone, mirroring me. “You okay Isaak?” he asks without looking at me.
“Yeah, good,” I state firmly.
“I don’t want to take the shine off Logan’s day, but I have some info for you.”
I turn my head, looking at him expectantly.
“I did some digging, or should I say I got my team to do digging. I had them look into a couple of people, not only for my own peace of mind but for you and Remme.”
The creases on my forehead deepen as I wait for him to delve into this more.
“Well, first off, Shantel has moved to Paris to try and build her portfolio up again after the stunt she pulled. Melvyn has lost his job at Proflex—let’s just say a little bird delivered some useful information on him. He’s under the radar at the moment, trying to make ends meet and Alex... Well the last I heard; he was in rehab for drug abuse. Who would have thought,” he says on a sarcastic laugh before he finally looks at me for the first time since he came and stood by me.
“I didn’t know you had done all that. Thank you.”
He gives my shoulder a tap. “No problem, call it my gift to you both for making me a godparent to that handsome little bruiser over there.”
I don’t know what to say, so I just offer him a small smile. No more needs to be said.
Just then, there’s a knock at the door. I scan the room, frowning when I don’t see anyone missing. Everyone who means something to Remme and me is already here.
Leaving the room where we’re entertaining the guests, I pull the door closed to avoid any prying eyes on the other side of the door. With everything that’s happened in mine and Remme’s life, it could be absolutely anyone.
Saxon must sense the same as me as I see his body stiffen. He nods my way and we head towards the door.
“You’re my backup if this turns out to be an unwanted guest.” I shrug as I swing the door open.
My blood turns to ice, and my fists clench at my sides. “What the fuck are you doing here? I seethe through my teeth. I’ve never hidden my true feelings where this man is concerned, and I’m not about to start now. “I suggest you turn around and scurry back to the cave you crawled from.”
How did he get past the fucking gates is more to the point?
“Now that’s no way to talk to your Uncle Benny, is it?”
He has a fucking a nerve.
“You’ve not been my uncle Benny for a long fucking time,” I inform him.
The voice I hear next has my skin tingling and not in a good way.
“Isaak…”
“Oh, hell no. No, just no,” I said demandingly. “The pair of you need to get the fuck off my property, right the fuck now,” I whisper, trying to keep this interaction low key and to not draw any unwanted attention, despite being so full of built-up rage.
I will not let Benny or the woman who disowned me ruin this day for Remme or my son.
“Isaak, I... I’m sorry,” I hear the woman who gave birth to me say softly.
“I don’t want to hear it. Whatever it is you came for, Benny, I suggest you get it over with and say what you need to say.”
“Relax, I’m not here for you, Isaak. I’m here for that best mate of yours. I’m here for Owen.”
The End…
At least for The Bruiser and his Sweetcheeks, it is.
Owen’s story, however, is only just beginning.
