Once I heard him talking about Brooklyn, it’s like he triggered the little devil that was sitting on my left shoulder and I snapped, “Nigga, fuck yo’ bitch. That’s probably why you disowned me, huh? You scared imma fuck yo’ bitch too?” it was my turn to laugh as I cracked up on the phone.

“Nigga you won’t live long enough to even get a whiff of my bitch scent.” Was the last thing I heard before the line went dead.

Shit! I jumped up and ran over to the curtains to scan the parking lot to see if anything looked outta place. Fuck! I picked my phone back up and called my only allie.

  “Whaddup?”

“Gator we gotta meet right now.” I spoke hurriedly as I loaded my Nina before checking my surroundings and leaving out the hotel room.

  *****

“So, what the fuck you called him for?” Gator asked calmly as we sat in the back of a barbershop he was part owner in one of the few traps that Khadi hadn’t destroyed.

“Fuck you mean? I called him to give him an ultimatum; call a truce or I’d kill his bitch” I lied as I watched his face twist up when I called Brooklyn a bitch. I was really in too deep now, but I couldn’t see me going back now Khadi would never accept my disloyalty “Aint this what the fuck we doing right? We snuffing this bitch, right?” I asked for assurance trying to read his face.

“Yeah that’s what we doing, so what we gon’ do next? You the only one who could lead us straight to her. You don’t have nobody on the inside that will help you?” he asked, sizing me up.

Maybe I could reach out to my little sister and see if I could reason with her. I pulled out my burner and dialed Khali’s number.

“Khali…it’s me, Khaza.” I spoke into the phone soon as she picked up. I could hear the noise in the background fade as she walked away from wherever she was to a quieter place.

“Khaza? Where are you?” she questioned sounding disappointed. “What did you do?”

I got up and turned my back to Gator “It’s that bitch Brooklyn, sis, she got Khadi’s head all screwed up and now he wants nothing to do with me.”

“What the fuck Brooklyn have to do with this? You fucked Khaddo’s wife!” her voice rose up a few octaves.

I ignored her, “Khali, I need your help. I need to get on the estate and speak with Khadi.” I pleaded, hoping she would see things my way.

“It’s too late, Khaza, Khadi has sworn you off if he knew I was on the phone with you right now, he would have my head.” She paused for a second, “I’m sorry bro.” she said with so much sympathy in her voice that it scared me. She was talking in a tone that let me know that this was probably the last time we would have a conversation. I looked up at Gator staring at me waiting for me to tell him we had a way in, but Khali was a dead end.

“She won’t help me!” I slammed my hand on the table. “He’s turned everyone against me.”

“I’ght. So, listen give me the address to the estate, I’ll take care of it. This time you won’t have to be nowhere around.” Gator smiled at me like a Cheshire cat as I rattled off the address to him. If this didn’t work I was going to give up and head back to Haiti for mamon to help me.

  Chapter 14

  Brooklyn

I stood downstairs near Khadi’s office door I was coming down here to apologize but once I heard him on the phone and say Khaza’s name I stopped and listened.

“I was gon’ let yo’ ass make it if you would’ve just went back to Haiti and suck on mama’s titty but since you living so foul that you had to go and hook up with that nigga Gator. Quick question, did you reach out to him cause you’re just that disloyal and hurt or did that nigga reach out to you ‘cause I was man enough to wife my bitch up the right way and its killing him?”

He laughed into the phone hanging up and headed towards the door. Oh my god, I hurriedly backed away from the door making my way back into the kitchen.

“Where you in a rush too?” Biggs was seated at the breakfast bar eating a sandwich scaring the shit out of me.

Before I could answer him, Khadi walked into the kitchen, “Biggs I just got off th-.” He stopped mid-sentence when he seen me.

I rolled my eyes. I was sick of the bullshit ass silent treatment plus he was looking damn good today with a fresh cut and a pair of fitted black art patch Amiri jeans. The black fitted lacoste tee showcased his chiseled upper body making me miss him even more. I licked my lips ready to wave the white flag, I needed my man back. Giving in I spoke up, “Finish what you were going to say…I am a part of this family.”

“Are you?” he shot back, giving me a disgusted look.

  “Am I not your wife?”

“See that’s where I’m confused at baby girl, because my wife wouldn’t be protecting the life of a nigga who wants to see her husband dead!” He shouted, visibly irritated.

Tears formed in my eyes, “Why the fuck am I here if you have to question my loyalty?”

He shrugged his shoulders “You tell me?” I didn’t know what hurt the most, the words or the hint of regret I seen in his eyes. My heart didn’t hurt this much when I found out that Gator was married. Here I was with my one true chance at love and I couldn’t keep it alive for the life of me. I felt like every time I took two steps forward life found a way to knock me three steps back.

I took off upstairs to pack some of my things. Fuck this shit, I was out! Khadi was back to his old ways and ignoring me while I’m pregnant wasn’t gonna fly with me. He was walking around being spiteful and because of his stubbornness, I haven’t even told him that we were having a boy. He was so busy being selfish and worrying about Khaza and Gator, he missed my last appointment that revealed the sex of our baby.

I grabbed my Louis V. duffle and walked into our massive walk-in closet to grab a few maternity sweat suits and my personal toiletries stuffing them inside. I dug into my purse and pulled out the 3D ultrasound that said, “It’s a Boy” and placed it on the pillow on his side of the bed and headed downstairs to tell Khali I was leaving for a couple of days to clear my head.

I smiled at her big ass laid out in the back yard on the beach chair in the walk-in entry of the pool with a purple two-piece bathing suit on displaying her big round stomach and milked up titties. She felt my presence and picked up her shades from over her eyes looking up at me then down at my bag. “Chile, where you going so fast?” she asked.

I shrugged my shoulders, “I don’t know yet, but I know away from your stupid ass brother.”

“Watch ya’ mouth, B.” She dropped her shades back over her eyes, “He’s just stressed Brooklyn, they all are. Hell, why you think Zilla been sleeping in one of the guest rooms. He working my damn nerves on the daily.” She laughed but I didn’t find this funny.

“I didn’t sign up for this shit, Khali. My last situation was beyond fucked up and I be damn if I stay in another one.” I felt the tears welling up in my eyes. Damn these pregnancy hormones.

“Yes, you did.” She rubbed her hand over big brown belly. “You married him for better or for worse. You love that nigga’s dirty draws and he loves you just as much; plus, you guys are building a family. You really ready to walk away from that five months pregnant?” She sat up, removing her shades completely.

“Maybe I just need a break.” I sighed feeling like shit.

“Ain’t no breaks in marriages, Brooklyn. None of this was by accident, Gators secret marriage, your coming here. All of that was supposed to happen for you to be where you are now. I know my brother and although he is the strongest person I know, and you think that nigga Superman right now with his own blood gunning for him? He’s hurt more than we could ever understand. Hell, even Kent Clark got hurt at one point or another by his archenemy. He’ll come around.” She stood up from the chair, “But in the meantime, I can’t tell you what you need to do, so if you need a break my condo downtown that you love so much is always available.” She winked at me before wobbling back inside the house.

I grabbed my duffle bag and purse and headed towards the fr
ont of the house. I decided maybe staying at Khali’s would be smarter, since Khadi could track my credit card transactions from our joint account. I passed by most of Khadi’s workers in the living area.

“Marcus bring the car around. I’ll wait for you by the front door.” I told him before I made my way into the foyer, hoping to bump into Khadi so he could see me leaving and realize that he needed to get his shit together. I assumed he locked himself back into his office when I didn’t see any signs of him.

I opened the front door dreading to walk over the threshold. Lately, we had been living like strangers and I missed my husband terribly. I needed him like I needed the air in my lungs but staying in this house I felt like I was suffocating without his touch, his laugh, or our quality time. If I stayed, I felt I would be allowing him to continue to treat me this way.

It’s on a different level when dealing with marriage. I’m his wife, partner, best friend he should never ignore or not want to speak on anything in front of me. I took a deep breath and walked out the door where Marcus had the Maybach still running while he ran up the steps and grabbed the duffle bag from me to place it in the trunk. I stood by the back door waiting for him to open it.

I picked my foot up to get in the car to leave, “Woman, where you going with my son?” Khadi called from the top of the stairs. I turned around to find him holding the ultrasound in his hand with the biggest smile on his face.

I playfully rolled my eyes trying to conceal the fact that I was blushing. “I’m not about to play with you Khadi San- “

  POW!

Marcus’s head exploded like a watermelon, sending blood and brain matter flying everywhere. He fell forward on the door smashing me between the door and the backseat.

  POW! POW! POW!

Shots rang out in the air hitting the bullet proof windows on the car and I started panicking, “Khadiiiiiiiii!” I screamed.

He moved Marcus’s body off the door so fast, shielding me with his body. “I’m right here baby.” He whispered in my ear, “I’m so sorry, baby. I love you. I’m right here!” He told me again trying to console me. His workers were running around the estate returning fire with the unknown.

Khadi lifted me off the ground and placed me in the back seat of the car, “Baby, stay in here and lock the doors, its bulletproof.” He was about to close the door, but he stood still staring at me.

I looked down to see what he was staring and started screaming loud once I laid eyes on all the blood between my legs and feeling the cramps take over my stomach, “My babyyyyyyyyy! Oh my god, my babyyyyyyy!” I cried hysterically, holding my stomach.

“Fuckkkkk!” Khadi hollered, closing the door and running around to the driver’s seat before speeding off.

  Chapter 15

  Khadi

“What the fuck you mean I can’t go back there?” I jogged trying to keep up with the doctors and nurses as they pushed the gurney that Brooklyn was on at a fast pace towards the back.

“Sir, calm down and let us help your wife.” The nurse held her hands up on my chest stopping me from going behind the double doors that they just wheeled her through.

“Fuck!” I hollered punching the wall leaving a dent into the sheetrock.

“Sir, if you don’t calm down I’m going to have to ask you to leave.” The nurse spoke up, ready to call security.

I turned around and walked outside. I didn’t want to leave Brooklyn back there by herself, but they denied me access and I needed some fresh air. I thought about Khali back at the house and quickly dialed her number.

“Oh my god, Khadi, are you ok? Where’s Brooklyn? Oh my god, what happened?” she cried into the phone breaking my heart. I’d got caught slipping at my home, my place of peace where my family was supposed to feel safe. Seeing what happened to Brooklyn and Khali crying hysterically on the other end of the phone tore a nigga heart up. It was time to stop playing with these bitch ass niggas and wreak havoc all the way from Miami to Atlanta.

“Calm down, baby girl, shhhhhh, calm down. Brooklyn is with the doctor in the back I’m waiting for them to come back out with her. Everything is going to be ok.”

“Noooooo! No, its not Khadi, what did you let them do?” she screamed into the phone getting me hot about Khaza all over again.

“Where’s Zilla?” I snapped thinking maybe he got hit.

“I don’t knowwwww,” she screamed panicking.

I hung up and hit Zilla’s cell, “Im good, ock.” He answered breathing hard into the phone.

“How many of us down?” I asked holding my phone tightly to my ear.

“Don’t worry about that man, see about your wife and we gon’ relocate.”

  “How many?” I barked.

  “Five.” He sighed.

“Fuck, they have to have a sniper or some shit. That shot on Marcus was too clean. Where the fuck is Khaddo?” I asked wondering why he hadn’t hit me yet.

“He’s already on his way to you with security. Me and Khali gon’ relocate and have Dr. Chung come over to check her out she might go into labor how she acting.” He chuckled.

I hung up and closed my eyes and did something I hadn’t done in a long time. I prayed. I prayed for my enemies because the wraith they were about to receive, the Lord himself won’t be able to come down and save them from it. But most importantly, I prayed for my wife and my baby.

“Mr. Santana?” I turned around to find the doctor standing by the automatic doors of the emergency room.

“Yes.” I slid my phone into my pocket, eager to hopefully hear some good news.

“Your wife is fine.” He gave me a sympathetic smile. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t save the baby, your wife lost a lot of blood and-…”

“Stop!” I cut him off unable to process that last sentence, “Where’s my wife? I need to see my wife.”

“This way,” he ushered me back into the emergency room.

I walked into the recovery room with my eyes on her stomach. It pained me to see her without her belly. Her bloodshot red eyes connected with mines.

She stared at me with tears in her eyes. “They killed our baby, Khadi. They killed our precious little boy.” She cried, gripping the sheets on the hospital bed. I held onto her rocking her back and forth. Finally, she calmed down and spoke, “You better kill them.”

The door to the Brooklyn’s room flew open and Khaddo walked in. I wasn’t surprised to see him, Zilla had already told me that he was on the way. What I didn’t expect to see was this Damere chick that I told him to drop, come trotting in the door behind him. The way she looked at me in my eyes gave me a bad feeling. I guess Khaddo caught on to my vibe when I tore my eyes away from her and they landed on him.

“I’ll explain later.” He walked passed me to check on Brooklyn leaving her lingering by the door.

I looked back at her, “Imma need you to wait for Khaddo out in the hallway.” I turned around as she exited the room and waited for the door to close. No one outside of family was allowed to see my wife in such a vulnerable state. “The fuck you doing?” I ice grilled Khaddo. “I told you to drop that bitch.”

“Now ain’t the time big bro, I said I’ll explain later.” He tried to dismiss me and focus back on Brooklyn. “What happened? I mean Zilla told me bits and pieces, but he said he wasn’t outside.” I looked down at Brooklyn waiting to give some indication that she wanted to relive the moment, but she was just staring off into space.

“Fuck allat… you telling that bitch out there our business?” I eyed him across the hospital bed looking in his face for deception.

“Hell no.” His face was so serious it was hard for me to tell if he was lying or not.

“Walk with me.” I walked over to the window with him following, “Look, first I need you to reach out to Marcus’s family and any other man we lost today and give them our condolences and we will give them any financial help they may need.” I sighed staring back at Brooklyn. “They killed my son.” I leaned on the wall for support. Khaddo looked back at
Brooklyn noticing for the first time that Brooklyn’s stomach was flat. I could see him biting down on his inner jaw something he always did when he was pissed. “The gloves are off. Gator goes down first, I don’t care where or how. I’ll wipe out that nigga’s whole family for killing my seed.

“And Khaza?” he questioned, raising his eyebrow at me waiting for my answer.

“We lay him down too, he picked his side now he gotta stay there.”

  *****

The cops had my estate taped off, so soon as the doctor released Brooklyn I had Biggs and a few of my trusted goons pick us up from the hospital and drive us out to Prive’. Prive is a private island in the south part of Miami where I owned a penthouse that no one knew about until now. The island has limited access and would be a safe haven for Brooklyn and me until I put these punk motherfuckers under. I was ready for war no doubt I was built for shit like this, but I wasn’t built to lose Brooklyn.

“Stay here.” I motioned for Brooklyn to stay near the elevator. “Biggs, I need every curtain pulled over every window inside. That shot on Marcus was definitely a sniper.” I looked back and seen worry on Brooklyn’s face. “Baby don’t worry for every sniper they have I have four.” I assured her while Biggs and Terrance closed up all the windows. I knew Terrance and Marcus were close, so I knew he was feeling antsy to get these niggas which was the ammunition I needed right now from my gang.

Once everything was secure, I was on my phone making demands left and right. I needed my whole gang ten toes down, pounding the pavement here and in Atlanta searching for these fuck niggas. Word had then hit the street one million on Gator’s head dead or alive and a million on Khaza alive. I wanted to lay his disloyal ass down myself for bringing these niggas to my front door. Once I got that squared away, I grabbed a menu off the table to order us food from the chef downstairs tonight, even though I was sure Brooklyn didn’t have an appetite.
