  “You there, baby?”

I shook my head, snapping out of my daze. “I’m here. Sorry, got a little distracted with the dinner I’m making.”

“Oh, is this for that handsome doctor who you went out with?”

“I’d ask how you already know, but then I remembered my sister’s about the biggest blabbermouth on the planet. You know, she’d be right at home here – gossiping’s practically the national pastime.”

Mom laughed. “Well, I’ll let you get back to it. Call me again soon, OK?”

We said our goodbyes and our “I love yous” and that was that. I hung up and stared out the window, wondering if my visit to Ireland could very well end up with me tripping over a secret that would turn our family upside down.

  Chapter 31

  RONAN

I couldn’t believe how damn giddy I was as I made my way up to the front door of Joann’s place. I felt like a teenager going out on my very first date, thrilled and a little bit scared.

I liked this woman. There was no getting around it. Hell, I might go so far as to say I was a bit mad about her. There was no way in hell I could tell her that, of course. At least not yet. Nothing wrong with making the beginning thrill of a relationship last, I figured.

When I reached the door, I gave it a quick rap. Moments later Joann appeared, and damn, did she look good. She was dressed in a pair of dark jeans and a button-up blouse, the top button opened just enough to hint at the perfect breasts I knew were underneath.

Neither of us said anything at first, both of us standing there all smiles. Finally, her eyes went down to the brown bag I had in my hand.

  “What’s that?”

“Ah!” I opened it and pulled out the contents. “Since we were doing Mexican tonight, I figured it’d be apropos to do tequila. Surprisingly, this stuff is hard to come by in Sandy Cove. Had to take a quick drive down to Swords to pick it up.”

Her put her hands on her curvy, tantalizing hips. “You’re telling me that you went from the clinic, all the way down to Swords, then up to here?”

“I did it during lunch. The fecking place was a madhouse with all the cameras and crew running around. I wanted any excuse I could get to give that place the laugh, if only for a little while.”

“Oh!” her eyes flashed, as if realizing something. “Come in.”

She stepped aside and I entered the house. The moment the door was shut, I turned toward Joann and gazed down at her, our bodies close.

I couldn’t resist kissing her. Smiles spreading across both of our faces, I leaned down and placed my lips on hers, the sensation of her skin on mine as electrifying and intoxicating as it had been the other night. There was no doubt in my mind that whatever was going on between us, it was something truly special.

The kiss lasted just long enough for our mouths to open and our tongues to touch one another’s. When I pulled back, her eyes were closed, and the smile was still there.

“It’s good to see you,” she said.

“Damn good to see you, too.”

She pursed her lips before swinging her arms toward the kitchen. The scents drifting from that direction were delicious, warm and inviting and unlike anything you’d encounter in an Irish pub. There was music, too, lively and upbeat.

“Anyway, I’ve got dinner going, come on in and get comfortable.”

Joann flashed me one last smile before turning and heading down the small hallway toward the kitchen. When her backside was facing me, I couldn’t help but let my eyes linger on her perfect, round ass. The sight of her in those jeans was getting me hungry for something other than Mexican food.

I followed her into the kitchen, a full spread greeting me. There were tortillas and guacamole and salsa and all the fixings for the tacos arranged into small bowls on the counter.

“It’s kind of a taco bar situation,” she said. “Start with the tortillas and put in all the stuff you like. Then there’s chips and beans and rice.”

“Looks bloody amazing. And kind of funny to think that we’re the likely the only people on the entire island who’re eating Mexican food.”

“I know!” she said, her eyes flashing. “It was so hard to find some of this stuff. I went to the greengrocer and when I asked for a avocados the guy looked at me like I was an alien.”

I nodded, not surprised to hear it.

“Dublin’s a very global city – got a little bit of everything there. But once you get out the city proper, you’re in a whole other world.”

She smiled. “I kind of like it. We get so used to having whatever we want all the time that’s almost nice to do without.”

“Seems like you found everything you needed.” I looked at the spread, my mouth watering at the sight of it all. “Let me show you what I brought.” I set the bag I’d brought with me on the farmer’s table and began emptying it. “We got the tequila, we got some limes, and -I know this isn’t in keeping with the theme- but me ma made some apple tarts and insisted that I bring one to you.”

I took out the small tart, wrapped with parchment paper and string, and handed it to her. Joann smiled as she took it, quickly unwrapping it and bringing it to her mouth. She happily chewed and swallowed, shaking her head at the taste.

“It’s so freaking good.” She rewrapped it and set it down on the table. “I’ll save it for after dinner. But…your mom wanted me to have a tart? That means she knows who I am?”

“That’s exactly what it means. That’s how me ma is, always prying things out of her boys about their personal lives. And more than that, things just move a little faster in Ireland – especially when it comes to romance.”

I was a touch worried she might’ve been a bit put off by what I’d just said. But she wasn’t. Instead, she smiled and stepped closer to me.

“Things move faster, huh? How fast are we talking, here?”

I grinned. “Keep coming closer and I’ll show you.”

She closed the distance between us, accepting my challenge.

I moved in and picked things up right where we’d left them at the front door. I leaned in and kissed her hard, and this time I didn’t hold back in what I wanted. Our tongues met as I clamped my hands onto her arse and lifted her up off the floor, carrying her over to the kitchen counter and setting her down. We kissed and touched each other with wild passion, my hands moving over her body, settling on her breasts as she spread open her legs for me to stand between them. Once there, I pressed my erection against her pussy through her jeans, grinding my cock into her, letting her feel my hardness.

She moaned as I moved against her. As I felt her warmth against my solidness, all I could think about was being inside of her. I stepped aside, my hands going to her button and zipper as I opened her jeans, pulling them down to reveal a pair of lacy, dark blue panties. As sexy as the sight of them might’ve been, I didn’t waste any time peeling them down her sensually curvy legs.

Once she was bare below the waste I moved to her side and kissed her neck, my hand going between her legs as I began to touch her, her pussy already slick. Joann broke the kiss, instead turning her head to close her eyes and moan as I made slow circles around her clit with my finger. Her breathing picked up, her mouth opening and closing silently as I pleasured her. When she drew near to orgasm she grabbed my arm and let out an “Oh, God” before biting down on her lip.

Joann opened her eyes when the orgasm was done, and I could tell by the hungry curve of her smile that she wanted more. Her hands shot to my jeans and opened them up as quickly as I’d opened hers, her slender fingers diving underneath my waistband to pull out my cock. She stroked me slowly, her eyes locked onto mine as if she wanted to witness my every expression of pleasure.

Her touch felt like heaven, but I wanted more. I put my hands on her hips and guided her off the counter, turning her around and pulling her perfect ass toward me. She looked back with a smile on her face as I grabbed my cock and placed it at her opening, her lips glistening with wetness.

  I pus
hed into her gently, knowing my thickness was likely quite a lot to handle. I watched as my cock disappeared into her, Joann moaning with delight as I buried myself to the hilt.

“Just like that,” she said with a sigh as I pulled back and drove into her again. “Just…just like that.”

The sight of her gorgeous, heart-shaped arse bent over before me, her cheeks shaking as I collided with her, was about the most erotic thing imaginable. Her tight womanhood gripped me hard as I entered her again and again. Soon I was rutting with wild abandon, driving into her hard, Joann letting out shrieks of pleasure that blended with the sounds of flesh on flesh.

Then her pussy clenched even tighter, wordlessly signaling that she was climaxing again. I held back my own as she came, wanting to give her even more pleasure before I was done.

  Chapter 32

  JOANN

My legs shook as I leaned against the counter, the traces of the orgasm still working their way through my muscles. I was still in something of a daze, unable to believe the blisteringly raw attraction that had come over me. Sure, I’d been hoping to sleep with him again, but not in the kitchen, now while taco fixings were here and there all around us.

“Let me help you, gorgeous.” I stood up and he put his big hands on the curves of my hips, lifting me up a bit so I could sit on the counter.

  “Wow!”

He cocked his head to the side, clearly unsure of what to make of my outburst.

  “Something wrong?”

“Nothing. Just that, um, the tile’s really cold against my butt.”

He glanced down at my ass, realizing what I was talking about. Then he flashed me a sexy smile and chuckled a bit.

“Then we’re going to have to warm you up, aren’t we?”

He moved closer, this long, thick cock shining with my juices. When he was near, I took hold of him and guided his inches between my thighs as I wrapped my legs around him, pulling him close as he pushed into me.

I watched as all of his inches vanished between my legs, his cock somehow fitting inside my comparatively tiny body. He felt so good inside of me, so perfect. I placed my hands on his sculpted, solid ass and held him there for a moment, savoring the sensation of his size stretching me out.

Then he pulled back and pushed into me again. When Ronan had taken me from behind, it’d been aggressive and powerful, his hard, quick thrusts exactly what I’d wanted. But in this new position, Ronan standing before me, our bodies close, it was different. He moved more slowly inside of me, then leaned in to kiss me deeply.

There was more than just sexual heat between us, there was a tender passion, as if we were connecting in ways more than simply physical.

I came again, and this time he joined me. Ronan let out a grunt and a shudder as he released inside me, his cock pulsing, his warmth filling me. I pressed my hands on his ass, urging him to stay in me until he was done. When our orgasms finished, he stayed inside of me for a little bit longer as we shard one last kiss, a bit of him dripping down my thigh and sending a shiver of delight through my body.

“Now,” I said, taking my lips from his. “You ready for some tacos?”

Fifteen minutes later we were cleaned up and dressed and sitting outside. The evening had been unseasonably warm, just enough for us to make an outdoor dinner sound perfect. Ronan and I were on the brick patio, plates and bowls of food on the wrought iron table in front of us, the sun setting in the west over the woods and casting the sky with brilliant oranges and pinks.

However, my attention wasn’t on the sky, so much as the sight of Ronan moving toward his taco, a fork in his hands.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

He cocked his head to the side, confused. “I’m about to eat dinner, darling.”

“No, I mean with the fork.”

Now he was even more confused. “I don’t know how they do things in Denver, but here in civilized Ireland, we eat with knives and forks.”

I laughed, realizing what was going on. “When’s the last time you’ve eaten a taco, Ronan?”

He looked away, as if trying to recall a date in the far, fuzzy past.

“Ah, I think back during a trip to London? Might not’ve been a taco, though. It was some Mexican-ish thing with beef and cheese and lettuce and tortillas.”

That got a smile out of me. “OK, so your last experience with Mexican food was in London, and it was something that may or may not have been a taco.”

He grinned. “OK, OK – I see what you’re getting at.”

I reached over and gently slipped the fork from his hands.

“A taco is a food that you shove into your face – that’s the best part. You order a ton and just cram in one after another until you’re good and full and all the tequila shots have been soaked up.”

“OK. Let me give it a shot.”

He slowly, gingerly, brought the taco to his mouth and took a bite. The tortilla ripped a bit, the stuff inside falling onto his plate. He chewed and swallowed, nodding in approval when he was done.

“Pretty damn good, I have to say.” He swept his hand toward the stuff that had fallen from his taco. “What about all that?”

“You’re allowed to eat that with a fork when you’re done.”

“Is that right? Wow, you really don’t mess around with the rules, do you?”

“Try and break one and you’ll see where that gets you.”

He gave me a half grin before leaning in and planting another kiss on my lips.

“Mmm,” I said when he moved back. “Beefy.”

Ronan chuckled as he brought the rest of the taco to his mouth, this time eating it with more grace. I took a bite of my own, the delicious taste washing over my palate.

“Speaking of tequila,” he said as he wiped his hands on his napkin. “How have we not taken a shot yet?”

“Good question,” I said. “I’ve got something I want to drink to.”

He gave me a curious look. “Can’t wait to hear it.”

With that, I rose and went into the house. My stomach tightened as I prepare the limes and salt – I had a feeling that once I told Ronan what was on my mind there’d be no going back. Once I had all the necessary accoutrements, I headed back outside to see that Ronan had already polished off another taco.

I sat down and placed the plate of sliced limes in front of him, then filled two tall shot glasses with tequila.

“So,” he said, dusting his hands. “What’s on your mind?” He had a serious expression on his face, seeming to sense that whatever I wanted to talk about wasn’t a joking matter.

I took a deep breath and went into it. “I’ve been thinking about the house. As nice as it’s been to be here, and to know that this place is mine, I know I can’t keep it. It pains me to even think about selling it, but when you entered my life with the offer you did, it was almost like that was a sign that it was time to let it go. Besides, I know my grandma would be happy to hear what you’re planning on doing with it.”

“Oh, she’ll know,” he said with a smile. “No doubt she’s up there looking down on you, pleased as she could be.”

Just the thought was enough to make my heart tingle with warmth. I cleared my throat and went on.

“That would be nice. Anyway, if I’m going to sell the house, I want it to be in the contract that it’s going to be only used as a shelter. You’re going to keep the original house, and only make additions that we both agree on.”

He scrunched his brow as if it were the most obvious thing it the world.

“Of course, Joann. I’d never cut you out of the process.”

“Good to hear you say that. Because I’ve got something else, too.”

  “Let’s hear it.”

“I want to help. I want to be a part of everything – I want to help with the research, the legal aspects, whatever you need. You’re going to own the house and the property, but I want to be there to help it all come to pass.”

He smiled, a warm, inviting smile.

&n
bsp; “It sounds perfect. But here’s what I want to know – are you really planning on only staying a little while longer? Something like this would take some time.”

I passed one of the shots over to him.

“I’ve got almost two months. Plenty of time to help with the legal heavy lifting.”

“Here’s the thing about that, gorgeous – you’re from Ireland. You stay too long, and you might never leave.”

Something about his words sat right with me. I raised the drink for a toast, smiling mysteriously at him.

Suddenly, in that moment, my future seemed a little more uncertain, but in the best way possible.

  Chapter 33

  RONAN

Once the tequila shots were down, we moved onto margaritas. Luckily, Joann knew the perfect recipe and when they were made, we went back to the patio to enjoy our drinks as the sun dipped lower and lower.

It was the perfect Irish evening, a touch of warmth and the sweetness of fresh air all around us. I couldn’t wait for the rest of the night to come, for us to retire to the house and put on some sweaters, maybe have a nip of whiskey before relaxing in front of a fire when the nighttime chill inevitably arrived.

“These are damn good,” I said, holding up the margarita as we sat on the wooden bench, Joann’s head resting on my shoulder.

“Wow.” Joann turned her head a bit to look up at me. “Have I possibly turned an Irishman onto what might be the least Irish drink there is?”

“Now, let’s not go crazy – a bit of the creature’s always going to be my go-to. But I can see the appeal of a drink like this. It’s light, it’s refreshing, and it gets you good and buzzed.”

“Pleased to hear it. There’s a lot more where that came from.”

He laughed. “Just imagining getting drunk on a Monday night. Might not be the best idea in the world. If I come in hungover, I might end up snapping at Sidney and the rest of them in a way I can’t take back.”
