Kidnapped Page 3

by Jacquelyn Vargovich

In no attempt to answer Janet, Sean storms out of the house. Sean jumps in his truck, heading to the garage. To face his second problem of the evening. He cannot blame Janet for wanting to confront the person who almost snuffed out her life. Guess he can put up with her visiting him in prison, after all what could happen to her in a place full of guards. They will keep her safe, even though he didn’t at the time she needed to be kept safe. He should accept her decision. Maybe he needs to tell her about his slip-up. Would she understand?

  CHAPTER SEVEN

Sean parks his truck and sits there, not being able to move. The lot is bare, his truck the only vehicle. He is early, he left Janet alone crying after finding her looking at a book he didn’t even know she possessed. Sean cannot believe how easy it was for Janet to keep this away from him. Of course, he is keeping a bigger secret, he can’t believe how easy it is to keep Nancy away from her. He is thinking on keeping Nancy at this moment. What would it hurt to keep her on the side as his mistress?

If Janet can keep secrets away from him he can keep this one thing to himself. While he is deep in thought, he missed her pulling into the space next to his truck. Sean sees movement from his peripheral vision. She comes closer to him wearing a trench coat, he wonders if she is clothed under the coat. It’s too warm this evening to be dressed in a coat.

Instead of coming over to the truck, Nancy walks in front and stands in the parking lot. She lets the belt loose on the coat, as the coat opens ever so slightly. Sean can see she is wearing a red silk teddy. Evidently she believes this is a booty call and not him going to call it quits. Sean fumbles his keys out of the ignition, and spills out the truck. Not paying attention he practically trips and falls over his two feet. This may be harder than I thought.

Nancy doesn’t acknowledge Sean on the way into the garage. He followed her as if he’s a little lost puppy. Sean is memorized by her swaying hips and lack of attire. The garage remained quiet, the only sound is her heels clacking on the cement floor, Nancy leads him to his office. Nancy opened the door, Sean reflected on the previous night in this very same office. As she closes the door, Sean reached around her waist from behind, and buried his face deep in her hair. Inhaling her scent there is nothing on his mind other than making her his for the next few hours.

JANET GETS OFF THE phone to Gary’s lawyer confirming their appointment in the morning. Derrek Zimmerman is going to be ready very early to meet her at the coffee shop. Janet is apprehensive on seeing him for the first time since the night he almost killed her. Derrek promised she will be safe with him the next day.

Janet tried calling Sean, no answer once again he has disappeared, bounding out the house angry with her. He needs to understand she needs this to so they can move on as a couple. Janet puts in a call to Dawn, “Hello,” the bar sounds busy.

“Hey Dawn, is Sean over there by any chance?” Janet asked with hope in her voice.

“Haven’t seen him. Janet, I am busy I will call you back ok.” The phone goes dead without Janet even saying anything more.

Throwing the phone on the bed Janet lets the tears fall, she is losing Sean. Only one location Sean possibly went tonight. She grabbed her keys and purse and heads out to her car with one place on her mind. He must be at the garage, suffering through his books on this cool spring evening.

Janet contemplates her relationship with Sean, she loves him, but she cannot move forward with him until she puts the past to bed. Thinking therefore she needs to see Gary and finally put the past in the past. It’s the only way to move on with the future she deserves. Janet turns the cat into the garage’s parking lot. She notices there are two cars, one is Sean’s and the other is one she had never seen. She stops the car, sitting in the lot letting the car idle, she is shocked. She knows the other workers’ cars and unless one had gotten a new car this is different.

Janet gets out of the car and walks towards the two cars, her heart pounding in her chest. She peers through the window; the car is clean. In the backseat, she notices a coat, a woman’s coat. Her mouth goes dry and she turns her head towards the garage entrance. She wants to bust through the door and confront Sean and the woman he is currently with. Something stops her, she doesn’t know what this means. She cannot assume he is cheating on her.

Defeated Janet walks slowly back to her car. Pulling her car across the road and hiding it behind a tree. At this distance, Janet would see when they leave. She is desperate to gather information about the owner of the strange automobile. She remembered she has her camera in the glove box. She grabs the camera out and snapped off a few pictures of the car. The pictures look good, there is enough light to capture the license plate clearly.

About an hour later, Janet is bored, no movement from the garage. She contemplates on leaving, when the door opens to the garage. Sean comes out and walked toward his car. Behind him her suspicions are correct. A woman dressed in a trench coat walks out behind him. Janet’s eyesight goes blurs. She barely gets a few clear pictures through the tears in her eyes. Sean stands by his car; the woman stands closely to him and pushes herself into his chest. She wraps her arms around his neck and kissed him on the lips.

Janet looks away, she can’t bear to see anymore. Afraid they would see her if she would leave now, she lays down on the front seat of the car. She cannot look anymore, her man kissing another woman. Janet can almost bet that woman is naked under the trench coat also. She lets the tears fall down her cheeks onto the passenger seat in her car. A few minutes later she heard both cars leaving. She sits up and feels so alone and cheated. There is merely one location on her mind. She starts the car, puts it into drive and heads off to the bar for a much-needed drink.

  CHAPTER EIGHT

Janet pulls up in front of the bar and shuts her car off. She leaves her phone in the glove box and heads out into the night. It had gotten cooler since she left the house and she failed to bring her coat. Janet heads into the bar, she is not thinking of anything other than having a few drinks and think about what she had saw outside Sean’s garage. Janet enters the bar; the dim lights and gloomy atmosphere is what she needs to try to forget the scene that is burning in her brain. How could he do this to me. This is the thoughts she keeps thinking over and over.

Janet sits down, Dawn notices something is wrong. The bar’s not busy tonight and Janet is grateful. She doesn’t want to be sociable this evening.

“What can I get you, Janet?” Dawn asks Janet. Knowing something is wrong with her friend.

“My usual, I don’t want to hear it. It’s been a day I need a drink.” Janet says dryly.

Dawn with no other words turns around and grabs rum and a Diet Pepsi. This had been the drink Janet used to forget her problems. She doesn’t know what is vexing her best friend, but she is determined to find out. She pours the rum and Diet Pepsi in a tall glass and sets it in front of Janet. Dawn says nothing. She smiles and lets Janet stew in her juices, she will talk before long and then Dawn will find out what is bothering her friend.

Janet stares into her drink, the scene at Sean’s garage burned into her brain. The sheer look of pleasure on his face as he kissed another woman was unmistakable. A tear escapes from her eye and her vision clouds. She pulls back the tears, she refuses to let anymore fall and give him the satisfaction of crushing her heart. The door of the bar opens breaking the spell Janet has been enduring. A gust of wind enters with the man she talked to a very short time ago about going to see Gary Anderson. Derrek Zimmerman walks with his blazing blue eyes focused on her. His dark almost black hair cut in business sense. Janet fidgets in her seat, not understanding why this man makes her feel nervous.
