Princess of Midnight: A Retelling of Cinderella (Fairytales of Folkshore Book 6)

Yulian held out a hand, helping me climb up into my seat. I settled down, stuffing my gown as I pulled up the heavy blanket. “Think we can have Oscar join them one day?”
“Unless you want to give your earthbound deer the fright of his life, no.” Sliding next to me, he took hold of the reins and looked down at me, face half lit by the warm light of the party inside, the other half by the cool moonlight. “Where to, my princess?”
I nestled into him snugly, and sighed. “To the stars and the lights that dance beneath them, my liege.”
The reindeer kicked up into the air and we fell back against our seat, wind whipping through our hair. Now I wasn’t frozen with fright, I let my head fall back with the tug of gravity and laughed out loud.
We passed over the city, the neighboring towns, following the river until we coasted below the clouds. I reached up and brushed my fingers against their smoky wisps, sighing in absolute bliss as I rested my head against his shoulder. He in turn, rested his head upon mine as we soared through the clouds.
Once on the other side, where the lights thankfully still danced, we sailed through the curtains of color, now in shades of teal and violet, and bathed in starlight.
But we hadn’t only left the world behind. We had overcome everything that had held us back all these years, and now would steadily soar to our limitless future together.
And for the first time in my life, I couldn’t wait for tomorrow.
Our every tomorrow.
