Even her habitual use of the time honoured mark of respect “guv’nor” seemed jarringly incongruous. He glanced down at the dinosaur tweet.

  From the screen Peckham’s first TV ‘tec rebuked him with ice cold rancour: “Sold out to the vultures eh, now the Met’s a game show and The Job’s gone to rats. Shame on you!” With a pang of nostalgia the minder reached for the keypad. But before he could reply his Blackberry beeped. It was time for morning prayers.

  BUSBY, Roger (Charles). British. Born in Leicester, 24 July 1941. Educated at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School for Boys; Aston University, Birmingham, certificate in journalism, 1968. Married Maureen-Jeanette Busby in 1968. Journalist, Caters News Agency, Birmingham, 1959-66, and Birmingham Evening Mail, 1966-73. Since 1973, Force Information Officer, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Exeter. Lieutenant Commander RNR Sea Cadet Corps 1955 - to date.
