The Idle System (A LitRPG series Book 7): Family Page 19

by Pegaz

Was that update only for the skills I already had? I only hope it added the use of Chaos Power for the skills rather than replacing the use of Life Power or Toxic Power, otherwise Sarah, Kelly, and Luke can’t use my skills until they transcend.

John stopped his mind parts from using the absorbing technique and left the Scan on while keeping an eye on the Chaos Pool. Even after an hour of waiting, the Chaos Pool didn’t change at all.

The Scan must only take the unit of Chaos Power after the time is up. I didn’t see any Chaos Power disappearing and the Scan is working, so that must be it.

After he was done with the first lot of experiments, John decided to place five mind parts to use the absorbing technique, one part to use his Scan, and the last mind part free for him to think, hoping that it would make his Demon split personality busy for a while, too.

He then decided on his next experiment. He changed the Chaos Power into the light element and made it surround himself before using the element to push himself forward.

His speed increased immensely once again. The light his eyes were capturing began to turn into lines, causing him to think that the element had caused him to travel at the speed of light.

He arrived at the concentrated Chaos Power in only six hours.

His eyes couldn’t capture the sight at this speed and his body couldn’t slow down in time. He only knew he was there after his body went full speed into the barrier.

The concentrated Chaos Power bent for miles as the force from his movement’s speed he generated was immense. However, it didn’t break—he couldn’t get through and it eventually slowed him down before it started pushing him back.

The speed increased the closer it got to its original position, and by the time it did get back to its original position, John was travelling a few hundred thousand miles per hour backwards.

John was flung back into outer space.

  Chapter 34: *Spoiler*

John used the Chaos Power and the light element to stop himself. When he came to a stop, he only used Chaos Power to travel back towards the barrier.

As he got closer, he could see the dark-purple barrier which spread in every direction. He could see for miles, yet all he could see was the barrier.

If what O’Malley said is true, then this barrier might cover the entire milky way or even an entire universe, so there’s no way to go around it.

They’ve probably tried all sorts of things—that I can’t even think of—to get through without any success, so there’s no point trying to force my way through.

John flew to the barrier and touched it, but nothing happened.

My Absorb option is on, but this is actually strong enough to stop it.

The barrier was flexible for the most part like the force field the Transcendents setup on the battlefield. When he pushed the barrier forward using his arm, he felt no resistance until he got to a certain point, then it pushed him back, acting like a spring.

John opened his system and went into the Completed List tab.

He looked through the skills that might be able to help him, but nothing came to mind until he saw one of the newest skills.

  Soul:

Separation: Separate the soul from the body but keep your senses. When your body is soulless, it will enter hibernation and keep all functions and passive skills active.

Is this why the skill was created? O’Malley talked about this barrier and how the souls came from the other side. He then mentioned the possibility of Earth being on the other side, and the system creates the skills using new information, so it’s plausible.

I get that my body will enter hibernation and nothing will happen to it, but I have a Demon inside me. When my soul leaves, can it take over my body, or is it impossible for it to take over when the soul isn’t there?

If I do this, then I just hope my mind parts continue cultivating, which should keep the demon busy.

According to what O’Malley said, the only way for this body to be destroyed is by a Demonic Sider. That means nothing should happen to this body when my soul is away.

The only problem I can think of is if someone takes the body, or if it drifts away from here while I’m gone, causing me to wander around in soul form.

I still think it’s worth the risk.

John made sure he wasn’t drifting in any direction before he closed his eyes and used the Soul Separation skill.

When he opened his ‘eyes’ again as a soul, he saw the same thing as before. He turned around, only to see his body floating there.

He turned back around and moved towards the barrier. When John got next to the barrier, he wanted to touch it again to see if being a soul would allow passage, but he realised he didn’t have arms anymore.

He wanted to take a deep breath to help calm himself down, but then he realised he wasn’t breathing as a soul.

John floated up to the barrier and expected it to put up some resistance, but the soul passed through it without any trouble.

The dark-purple Chaos Power surrounded him, but it didn’t harm or stop him. He found out that he could use Chaos Power while he was still a soul, so he used a single unit of Chaos Power to push him forward.

John couldn’t figure out how fast he was going, but he counted the minutes since he passed the barrier.

Ten minutes later, he came out of the barrier. What greeted him were stars and asteroids—nothing else. There were no small amounts of Chaos Power in outer space like there were on the other side of the barrier.

John was still travelling at an incredible speed and he soon came towards a huge asteroid.

It didn’t have an atmosphere, water, soil, or anything else that a planet might have.

After he arrived on this asteroid, John had an idea.

He had only taken a little over an hour to get here, so even if the idea didn’t work, he wouldn’t have lost anything.

He turned around and used another Chaos Power unit to travel back towards the barrier.

An hour later, he arrived back on the other side. He had moved a bit away from his body, but he found it after a few minutes of searching.

Floating to his body, he entered it through his head.

John woke up after a few seconds. He found it extremely weird to be in soul form with no limbs, so when he gained control of his body again, he moved his arms, legs and neck.

He then opened up the system to see if his idea had worked.

On the universal map, the barrier was shown at the very top of the universe, and to his delight, he saw the huge asteroid on the other side of the barrier.

He zoomed in on the asteroid and he knew his idea worked because he found a patch of green on it. Moving his icon on that patch of green, the system asked him if he wanted to teleport there, to which he clicked on yes.

The view he saw changed as the system teleported him to the asteroid that he was on in soul form only an hour ago, causing him to smile.

  It worked? Great!

I have no idea how it worked, though! The barrier could stop my physical body, but my system’s teleport skill can bypass the barrier as long as I’ve visited the place before?

That means my system must be unique somehow even compared to other systems.

So, now what? This universe could be the same size or even bigger than the universe I just came from and I have no idea if Earth is even in this universe. Even if it is, I have no idea where Earth is!

It would literally take me eons to search this universe for a single planet or galaxy, no matter how I go about it!

He checked his Chaos Pool to make sure he had gotten enough for a little search and noticed it had gone up by ninety points. When he entered the soul form, his body must have been cultivating still.

Since he had gotten enough for a quick search, he decided to take a risk.

Nevertheless, he couldn’t just travel with no clues at all, so he kept turning time backwards in his eyes, looking for something.

A few minutes later, he found what
he was looking for. It was a soul that was headed towards the barrier. He kept turning back time in his eyes and followed the soul, hoping it would lead him to Earth.

John followed it for less than an hour before he ran into a small problem. The soul came out of a wormhole, but John couldn’t follow it since he was only looking in the past.

He stopped using the time element in his eyes and, instead, used it on his whole body. He travelled back in time to the point where the soul came out of the wormhole, and while turning time backwards, he followed the soul.

When he entered the wormhole, the area around him turned a bright-blue colour. It then changed into a multicoloured circle around him that stretched into the distance like a tunnel, while black lightning flew across the tunnel walls every now and then.

It looked like space was moving faster than the speed of light while he was standing still, but he thought that it might only be an illusion because it’s him that’s moving faster than the speed of light.

He was in this wormhole for what seemed like an hour, but because he was turning time backwards, he wasn’t sure if he should count the time or not.

When he came out of the wormhole, he was surprised. A large brown, white, and orange planet was in front of him.

John smiled because he remembered this planet from when he was in school. It was Jupiter!

He used his light element to turn invisible in case Earth’s outer space monitoring technology could detect him.

I know Earth’s technology can’t pick up wormholes, but I don’t know if I’m still in the 21st century. The time spent in the other universe might be slower or faster than this universe. When I arrive there, I’ll have to check the date.

Looking around, he found the direction of the sun and used Chaos Power and the light element to travel towards it.

It took him less than thirty minutes to travel past Mars and find Earth. He considered himself lucky since Earth was on this side of the sun.

As he was about to fly to Earth, he remembered something. He opened up the system and turned the Absorb option off, but he didn’t want to use Earth as a test subject so he flew back to Mars instead.

When he landed on Mars, he waited for a few minutes to see if anything happened, but he couldn’t feel the elements coming towards him.

To make sure it was fine, he turned the Absorb option on.

When he did, he felt as though everything around him was being pulled towards him. The ground, dust, wind, and whatever was in the air were all being sucked inside him while getting transformed into Chaos Power.

John turned the Absorb option off and he felt everything turn peaceful again. He had only turned the option on for a few seconds, but it caused a lot of the land around him to shift.

Since the test proved he could seal the absorption problem without sealing his powers, he then used Chaos Power to push himself off the planet and go towards Earth.

John made sure he didn’t enter Earth’s atmosphere at a high speed so that he wouldn’t create a red tail behind him.

He was flying high in the air as he looked down at a huge city. It was currently night time, but the entire city was lit up brightly, causing him to smile.

I haven’t seen electricity since I left Earth. I didn’t think I’d miss such a small thing that I took for granted before I died.

If O’Malley’s rules about time travel are right, then I’ve got some work to do.

John kept using the light element to stay invisible before he flew towards the city.

  Title: Earth!

  Chapter 35: Soul Collecting

When John landed on the ground, he looked for signs to figure out where he was. He knew he was in America, but he wasn’t sure where.

He came to a large park that was surrounded by street lights that had banners on them. He read the banner, but it only said something about better banking. In the middle of the park, there was a large sign with the name Midtown Park, but nothing about what city or state he was in.

John saw a man walking along the street while messing with a phone, so he went up to him and used the time element to freeze him. He picked up the phone and checked the date and GPS on it.

It showed he was in a town called Raleigh in North Carolina and it was the year 2019. He opened the map up and checked where New York was compared to his location before giving the phone back to the man, releasing him from the time element and then flying towards New York.

It took John only a few minutes to fly to the Big Apple.

When he arrived, he looked for Times Square. He eventually found it since there were signs everywhere.

He was floating in the air, above the buses and cars that drove down the busy street, while he looked at all the signs. It was different from what he remembered, so he used the time element to go backwards once more.

While keeping an eye on a law firm half a block away from him and the signs all around him, he kept going until he found what he was after. The familiar scenery bounced around in his memories, he remembered seeing this vision once before.

There were television screens playing some advert or song, skyscrapers all around, and traffic.

That was when he saw the man he was after.

With a smile, John flew towards the man he found and used the time element again to freeze time. When he arrived next to the man, he created an Information Sphere with some of his basic information and placed it on the man’s forehead.

When that was done, he created a few threads, unfroze time, and when the time was right, John used the threads to push the man into oncoming traffic.

Sorry, but this already happened. I’ll make it up to you somehow, Danny.

When Danny died on the street, John grabbed his soul by his black fingernails. At the same time, he created a single thread to take one of Danny’s hairs then flew into the air.

He created a few threads and wrapped them around the soul, seeing if they could touch and hold the soul. It worked, so John created more threads from his back to keep his hands free while the threads wrapped around the entire soul to protect it while he travelled.

John then used the time element to travel back to the present time before he flew towards Las Vegas.

When he arrived, he used his time element again to travel back in time to the year he wanted. He then entered this huge stage where he floated above the seats to watch a magician’s show.

When the show was over, he followed a woman while using the time element again to get to the point where she died due to an accident. For the first time in almost sixty years, John couldn’t watch a person die and he closed his eyes as it happened.

His threads wrapped around the soul that came out of the woman’s body and brought it next to Danny’s soul behind him. He didn’t need to take a hair from the woman like he did with Danny.

Kelly wasn’t lying to us when she told us her life story.

John then flew back to England. It only took him a few minutes at casual speed.

Turning back time again, he went to the Royal London Hospital. He watched Sarah’s life for a while and saw how much dedication it took to become a surgeon. At the end, like with Kelly, he couldn’t watch Sarah get stabbed to death.

When he opened his eyes and saw Sarah lying on the ground, covered in blood, he could hear his heartbeat in his ears as his hands went towards the attacker’s neck. They stopped only a few millimetres away before the red in his eyes disappeared.

I need to calm down. This has already happened! Unless I pay a price, this past won’t change. I shouldn’t change it anyway, or else Sarah wouldn’t come to the other universe and we wouldn’t meet.

When this is all over, I’ll let Sarah deal with this man if he’s still alive at that time.

He used his threads to wrap around Sarah’s soul before bringing it next to the other two souls. He then used a single thread to grab a hair from her body like what he did with Danny.

Turning back time even further, he went to the place where Lisa, his fia
ncée back on Earth, was killed. He watched the whole thing, but he realised that he didn’t feel grief about her death anymore.

Flying north to the house he owned before he died, he fast-forwarded time to the moment when he died. He was hovering in the air, above his car, and he was still invisible.

However, while he was watching, his past self made it to the car and drove off.

Knitting his brows, he watched the car drive off for a few seconds before turning back time again.

This time, when his past self came out of the house, he created a few threads to burrow in the left arm and travel through the circulation system before he made the threads wrap around the heart and squeezed.

He watched his past self collapse on the floor and a few seconds later, his soul came out of the body. Doing the same pattern, he made some threads to wrap around the soul and brought it closer to the other three souls.

He then used a single thread to take a hair.

I remember feeling pain in my left arm when walking towards the car. I didn’t think much of it at the time, and then the heart attack happened.

If what O’Malley said is true about how the past has already happened and we just go through time to make that past really happen, then it was the future me coming back in time to kill me.

But I saw my past self drive off, safe and sound. Then I turned back time and changed it, so how come I’m not getting punished for it? Unless the rule about changing the past isn’t as simple as O’Malley explained... Am I immune to the punishment somehow?

Anyway, now that I’m at the point in time to travel back, I’m just repeating what the future me did in my past.

Does this count as suicide, then?

Even though the system has made me smarter due to some skills, my brain still hurts when trying to think about all this time jumping.

John walked up to his past self’s dead body, picked the keys out of the pocket, and used them to open the door of the house.

Walking upstairs, he turned on the computer and searched the Internet for information about something he had been wondering about for many years now.
