By the time the human police were through with their questioning, Crista was so pale she looked gray, and Nax was ready to unleash his fury on someone. Enough was enough.
They had questioned Nax extensively about the bruises on the male who had touched his mate, but after seeing Pete’s injuries and the bruises on Crista’s arm from the male who held her, they had backed off.
As soon as everyone had cleared out, Nax turned to Crista and picked her up once more. She’d checked on her mother about an hour ago. She had thankfully slept through it all. Now it was time for Crista to get some sleep.
She lay quietly in his arms until he went to lay her on the bed.
“I want a shower,” she told him.
“You are tired, mate.”
“Please. You can shower with me. Hold me up.”
That would be a test of his control, washing his naked mate without taking her. But she needed care right now. Nothing else. He could suppress his needs for her.
“You will let me help you.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way,” she said tiredly.
He carried her into the bathroom and set her on the counter. He leaned over and turned on the shower then turned back to help her strip.
“Put all my clothes in a pile,” she told him. “I’ll wash them tomorrow.”
He nodded, and as carefully as he knew how, helped strip her. His rod, which had a mind of its own, grew erect at the sight of her naked body, but he tried to ignore it. He stripped off his top and picked her up.
“Your jeans.”
“I will keep them on.”
“No, take them off.” She placed her hand on his bare chest. “Please.”
“Crista—”
“I want to feel your skin next to mine. I want to have you take me. I want to feel safe. Okay?”
“You are exhausted.”
“So you’ll have to do most of the work. I’m sure you’re up to it.”
He was.
He set her down again and quickly stripped, then he grasped her around the waist and lifted her into the shower, following her. He washed them both quickly. He didn’t want to take her here where she might slip because she was so tired. It didn’t stop him from playing with her a little, though. Standing behind her, he ran his thumbs over her nipples, hearing her gasp. Then he pressed his hand against her mound, sliding a finger along her slit.
“Nax,” she cried, pressing her head back against his chest. He held her around the waist with one arm while he explored her pussy with his fingers, rubbing at her clit.
“This will not happen again.”
She shook her head. “No.”
“You cannot be in danger again.”
“Believe me, I’d be happy with a very quiet life.”
Then he reached over and turned off the shower.
“No, don’t stop,” she cried out.
“Shh. I am going to take care of you, mate.”
She turned in his arms, smiled up at him. “I know. You always do”
He helped her out of the shower then dried her off. When she was dried to his satisfaction, he lifted her, set her back on the counter then knelt between her legs.
“Lean back with your hands on the counter behind you,” he ordered.
Her face was flushed as she did as commanded.
“Put your legs over my shoulders.”
As soon as she was in position, he swept in. He licked at her pussy, ran his tongue up and down the slit. With the fingers of one hand, he drew the lips back to expose her clit and lapped at it. Her cries of pleasure filled the room. Her thighs trembled and he knew it wouldn’t take much for her to fall over. He moved his tongue lower, thrust it into her, murmuring in pleasure at the taste of her. He rubbed a thumb over her clit as he used his tongue to spear her.
“Nax! Nax!”
He moved his thumb faster. Harder. She arched back.
“Ohhh,” she cried as she came. He stood quickly, picked her up and slid her right onto his thick cock. She cried out again, her pussy clamped down on him, and he was so close.
He turned and walked with his hands under her ass, his rod spearing her. He strode into the bed and laid her carefully down. Lying over her, he drew back, drove in deep.
“Mate! You feel so good.”
“More! More!” she cried out.
He sped up, his need for release was building and building then he let out a roar as he came inside her. He heard her own cry, felt her pulse around him as she came again. He pulled her close then rolled so she lay on top of him, cradling her close.
He ran his hand through her hair. “My mate.”
“Your mate,” she agreed tiredly. “Always.”
“Yes. Always.”
* * *
Crista lay on top of him, hearing his heart beat steadily beneath her ear. She yawned. She couldn’t remember ever being this tired before. Nax moved, rolling her off, and she whimpered a protest.
“I will clean us up. Then you will sleep.”
She watched as he walked into the bathroom. Damn that was one tight ass. He returned with a wet cloth.
“Spread your legs.”
No matter how many times he did this, she still blushed. But she let him clean her up and when he returned to the bed, she snuggled up against him, her head on his chest, his arm wrapped tight around her. Her eyes were drifting shut but there was something she had to tell him.
“Nax?”
“Sleep.”
She rolled her eyes. Bossy as always.
“I’m going to get rid of my apartment.”
“All right.”
She knew he didn’t get the significance but she did. It was her safety net, and she was going to go into freefall. Because he would always catch her. Always be there.
No matter what.
Epilogue
“So this is your spaceship, huh? Aren’t you worried someone will find it?”
“It is well hidden,” Nax told her.
She nervously paced back and forth down the passage.
“What if Mom forgets this is a secret and tells someone about it?”
He gave her a gentle look and she understood. No one was going to believe her mom, even if she did tell them something.
They’d come here so Brogan could put her mom in the ship’s regen chamber. She knew about regen chambers, but there was no way she could ever get enough money to be able to use one. And they had one just sitting on their ship for anytime one of them got hurt.
It was amazing what those machines could do, but she didn’t think they could repair the brain. None of the specialists she’d ever been to had suggested she try one. But Nax and Brogan had been talking and they thought it was worth a try.
She agreed.
So here they were, with her pacing around like a nervous twit outside the medical area. Nax leaned against the wall, looking calm as ever, while her mom and Brogan were on the other side of the door.
Nax reached out and grabbed her around the waist, halting her nervous pacing.
She immediately placed her head against his chest, leaning into him.
God. God.
He ran his hand up and down her back.
She couldn’t believe everything that had happened to her in such a short amount of time. It was still hard to wrap her head around. Pete had recovered from his injuries and what he’d told the police had matched Mr. Jones’s story. Not that that was his real name. He was a drug dealer and money shark that Pete had gotten in too deep with.
The police had tracked down Ben, the guy who’d hidden the gold in his aunt’s basement. Unfortunately, he’d been found in his apartment with a hole in his head.
Mr. Jones had been charged with murder and was currently locked up with no chance of bail. Thank God.
The police had brought in equipment to break up the concrete floor. They’d found eighteen gold bars, which were worth close to two million dollars in today’s market.
She was just gla
d it was all over.
The door opened behind her and she turned to see Brogan and mom step out. Her mom was smiling, Brogan was not. Oh hell, it hadn’t worked.
“Well?” Nax asked.
“I cannot fix what damage has been done, unfortunately. Not with this equipment. However, it may have slowed down the disease. We will need to wait and see.”
“Really?” she whispered.
Brogan nodded once. “Yes. I will keep regularly scanning her brain, of course.”
Okay, it wasn’t as good as having mom back, but it meant she might keep her for a while longer.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
“Can we go home now?” her mom suddenly said. “I need to help with dinner.”
“Sure, Mom. We can go home.”
Brogan took her arm and led her away.
She looked up at Nax. She wasn’t alone anymore. She had people to lean on, who would be there for her.
And she had a man who loved her. She turned and wrapped her arms around him.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
“What for?”
“Everything. Just thank you for everything.”
“Am I supposed to understand that?”
She grinned up at him. “No. Just know that I’m happy and it is because of you.”
His lips twitched. “Never thought I would make someone happy.”
“Well, you do. You make me very happy.” She waited. “Well?”
“Well what?”
She rolled her eyes. “Do I make you happy?”
Nax leaned down and kissed her. “Mate, I did not even know what happy was until you.”
Oh, that was nice.
I hope you enjoyed Nax’s story, the Sky Warriors are taking a bit of a break for a few months but don’t despair because…
The Zerconians are coming back!!
Look for them May/June 2019!!
A note from the author
In this story, we met Crista’s mom who has dementia. Dementia has struck many people in our family. So I hope I did well in portraying Crista’s feelings about losing her mom to the disease. My husband’s grandfather had dementia. He lived next door to us for some time. One day, he turned up and just sat down at the dining table and asked what was for dessert. We had dinner guests over at the time. We still think of that memory and smile.
I had a choice to make about whether or not to let the Sky Warriors have a cure for the disease and chose not to. It wasn’t an easy decision. Hopefully I made the right one.

Excerpt from Fairy Godmother Gone Bad
She spun, her heart racing so fast she felt nauseated. “You can read minds?”
Standing, she took a step back.
“No, you were talking out loud.”
She hadn’t been, had she? She watched him suspiciously. A mind-reading ability could explain why everyone treated him with so much respect. And fear.
“Esme, will you stop looking at me like that!” he said, with exasperation.
She took another step back. “Like what?”
“Like I’m going to harm you!”
“How do I know you’re not?”
He placed his hands on his hips. “When have I ever given you the impression I wish to harm you?”
“Uh, hello?” She swung her arms around. “You got me banished to this place!”
“No, you got yourself banished to this place.”
“It was your fault Puckland was so harsh on me. If you hadn’t given him that idiotic suggestion about becoming my guardian, I wouldn’t have been sent here to rot for a hundred years.”
“One, why was it so idiotic? With how often you get into trouble, you could use a keeper. And two, you hardly look like you’re wasting away.” He ran his gaze over her, and it took her a long moment to realize that that look in his eyes was admiration.
Esme held her hands up, as though to ward him off as she took another step back. No. She wasn’t doing this again. She did not want him.
Uh-huh, and that’s why your body is heating? Your nipples growing stiff and achy?
“I’ve been stuck here, bored out of my mind, with little to do except watch these damn weeds grow while you’ve probably been toasting how you managed to mess with my life.”
“I was not trying to mess with your life! I was trying to keep you safe.”
“From who? You?” she yelled.
“No. From the person trying to kill you!”
