  John reloaded one of the backpack sprayers he been using and told the men he was going to check on the animals in the pasture. When he neared the fence, he saw the animals jumping and leaping and stomping in a frenzy and he knew his worst fears were realized. The duck was flailing around on the ground in obvious hysterics some fifty feet removed from the circle of pouncing animals, and Mort was stomping all around the poor thing. He had never seen Mort move that quickly before, about as fast as a rodeo's bucking bronco. He also noticed one of the pigs running full speed away from the group of frantic animals and squealing loudly. Then John noticed his Golden Retriever lying motionless in the middle of the commotion.
