“I love you, baby. You gon’ be my wife, the mother of my kids. It’s me and you against the world, baby.” He promised me. I smiled, and all was forgiven. I loved this man with all my heart.

  Two~ La ’Kenzo

“La’Kenzo? La’Kenzo? Where are you, baby boy? My favorite.” My foster mother, Jessica, slurred. I sat on my bed, heart beating out of my chest. Every time she came looking for me, I knew what she wanted.

“Hey, baby boy. Why you in here by yourself?” She smiled hugely at me.

“I don’t wanna come in the room with you, Jessica.” I said, flatly.

“Hey, hey, what I tell you to call me?”

  “Mama Jessica.” I mumbled.

“Come on, I see I gotta teach you a lesson.” She stated. I sat on my bed, not moving. She came and snatched me up by my t-shirt. I stood up, a frightened, young, nine year old, as she guided me to her room so that I could touch her in places I wasn’t supposed to, and she’d touch me.

“I can’t wait until you get older, La’ Kenzo. You’re going to be so handsome, and I can’t wait ‘til we can make love.” She smiled.

After my mother was murdered, and her boyfriend was locked up, I was sent straight to foster care, and placed in the home with Jessica. Everything was good for a year or so, until this bitch lost her fucking mind. All the kids she had staying here, and this bitch wanted to molest me. As the years went by, she started sexually assaulting a nigga, and I ain’t know what the fuck to think. Only kid in the house, until this little hell raiser, E’mauri, came through this bitch. Wild hair, tall, lanky nigga, slept right across from me. I never fucked with nobody in here, but this little nigga basically forced me to talk to him.

  “Ain’t you Kenzo?” He asked.

“Nah.” I told him. He smacked his lips.

“Nigga, I know who the fuck you is. I’m E,” he told me. I shut my room door in that nigga’s face.

Shit started to get crazy at the house. I was going through shit my niggas knew nothing about. I was hustling night and motherfucking day to get out that crazy ass house. Jessica had officially lost her fucking marbles. I was a grown ass man in my eyes, so all that touchy feely shit had to stop. Walking home from school one day, I saw a group of kids yelling and shit. I noticed E fighting some nigga. He was getting his ass whooped, but he had heart. I could respect that shit. E was trying to stick with him, but as soon as that nigga dropped him on the ground, I stopped it.

“Alright.” I stepped up, and the lil nigga pushed me, but I ain’t budge.

“Move, for I fuck yo fat ass up next.” He spat. I chuckled, and pushed his lil ass on the ground and helped E up. His mouth was bleeding, and he had a long welp on the side of his face. Nigga was somewhat bright, so he got marked up easily. He just picked his shit up and followed behind me. As we got closer to the crib, he finally broke the ice.

“Why you break it up?” He asked.

“Cause I couldn’t stand there and watch you get yo ass beat. The shit was sad. All that mouth and height, and yo ass can’t even fight.” I told him.

“I know how to fight.” He argued.

“Nah, nigga. Cause that shit back there was some bullshit.” I chuckled. He frowned.

“Why you in the foster home? What happened to yo peoples?” He asked. I glanced at this nigga before walking into the house, completely ignoring his question.

I went through my motion’s normally for weeks. Ignoring this kid, E’mauri. This nigga was a fucking pest, ever since I broke up that fight, this lil nigga acted like I was his big brother or some shit. He was growing on me more, and more, everyday though. He reminded me of myself. I was a wild nigga, and he was a wilder nigga.

“I got beef with this nigga, Shawne, at the school. He mad cause his bitch sucked my dick.” He busted in my room, telling me.

“First, lil nigga, knock on my fucking door before busting in here.” I spat, sitting up.

“Alright, but, man, I’ma be honest. I ain’t the best fighter. But I heard you got them bitches, just tell me what the fuck to do or some shit, man. That’s a big nigga. I ain’t scared, but he got about sixty pounds on me.” He stressed. I ain’t say shit, as usual. He smacked his lips and walked out the fucking door. The next day after school, we were walking home, and the crowd formed across the street in the church parking lot. I walked over there, and as E was taking his shit off, this nigga, Shawne, was talking cash money shit. E wasn’t saying shit. I walked up to that nigga E.

“You a tall motherfucker with long arms. Use them,” I told him. He nodded, and Shawne ran up on him. He quickly dodged him and was on the side of him.

“Beat that nigga ass, Shawne.” His friend cheered.

“Soon as he run up, don’t let him swing, pop that nigga, E.” I told him. He did exactly as I told him, and knocked Shawne’s head back, like three times. That shit was comical. E had his first win, and niggas was salty. Couple days down the line, I bought some boxing gloves, and tossed them at him. He smirked, before meeting me in the backyard.

That was our thing. Working out and boxing each other. As we got older and shit, that lil nigga caught up with me in height, and started adding some meat to his bones. By my senior year, he was a junior. We were in the backyard, and I was tearing his ass up, but he was keeping up.

“Yeah, nigga. Wassup?” He started getting cocky.

“You getting cocky, lil nigga. I’ma put you on yo ass.” I told him.

“I wanna see that shit.” He spat. He ran up, doing his little jabs and shit. I dodged them bitches, and came back with a right hook, that knocked that nigga on his ass. His crazy ass rolled and got up so fast.

“Did you see that shit?” I chuckled.

“Fuck you, big motherfucker.” He joked.

E was my little brother I never wanted, or asked for. E got kicked out of our high school a while ago, so he attended the school across the way now. My boy’s never knew about shit that I was going through, they didn’t ask, and I didn’t tell them. I remember the day I ran away from that hell hole like yesterday. I had one month ‘til I graduated and turned eighteen. I was in the bed, knocked the fuck out, but I heard my door creek open. Jessica had been tossing the pussy at me, but I told her if she ain’t leave me alone, I was gone report her stupid ass. She ain’t touch nobody else in this bitch, but me. But I could feel her hand caressing my body. My dick didn’t even get hard, because she was a foul bitch, sick in the fucking head. But what blew me, was the fact she bought this nigga from the bullshit she tried to pull years ago. I see this nigga ain’t learn from the last time. He went to touch my dick, and I snapped. I blacked out, and when I finally came to, it was blood every fucking where. I went to my closet and grabbed all my bread, putting it in my pocket, before filling what I could in my duffle bag. I ran out that house and never looked back. I knew the law would probably be looking for me, but I was gon’ run until I couldn’t no more.

“Nigga, you heard me?” Zell asked.

“Nah, what you said?” I asked.

“I said Ken want me to ask you to make the drop tonight. I got a date and shit, so I told him I couldn’t do that shit.” He said. I frowned.

“Nigga, you putting a piece of pussy over some bread?” I asked him.

“I got some shit on the floor, nigga. Can you look out for a nigga, or not?” He asked.

“Yeah, I got you.” I told him. It wasn’t shit, we were a team, and I didn’t mind it. P was side eyeing the fuck outta Zell, but like I said. Zell was my day one nigga, so it was whatever. After I left the spot, I went to make the drop, and before I could get back to the spot, I got pulled over. As much shit as I had on me, I already knew I was about to sit down for a minute. I knew the risk when I got in this game. Shit, I was only twenty, but I was aware of the shit I was doing, and also, the consequences.

I was arrested, and they locked my black ass up. After getting my bail denied, these bitches moved me to general population. They were trying to press my ass to see who I was working for,
but I just sat there staring at them like they were speaking French. I was a big nigga, and could hold my own. My cellmate was getting bitched. But he got released shortly after I got there. Being in that bitch a year, I had saw a lot of shit, and a lot of niggas I knew from back home, so they fucked with me just off who I was in the streets.

I was sentenced to three years. The lawyer Ken had set up for me was the GOAT, cause I know my ass was supposed to sit the fuck down for at least ten. But money talked, and bullshit walked, I was grateful my nigga looked out. When my cellmate left the next morning, they brought this big brown nigga in, with two matted braids going to the back. I heard somebody say, “what the fuck that nigga Lucci doing in here?”

“Alright, but you ain’t gotta be yanking on me like that. I’m a grown fucking man.” He spat. I shook my head, an angry nigga. I swore if this nigga tried some shit, I was fucking him up, I had a lot of pent up frustration to let off. I was sitting on the bottom bunk chilling, minding my business.

“Wassup, nigga? I’m Lucci, I ain’t with none of that funny shit.” He started.

“Save yo speech, nigga, we good. I ain’t with that shit either.” I told him.

  “Good to know. Lucci.”

“Zo.” I told him, and I turned around to dap him up. I busted out laughing.

  “La’Kenzo?” He asked.

“E, what the fuck yo young ass doing in here, bruh?” I sat up. He chuckled.

“Man. Long story short, trying to get it how I live. They gave me two years.” He said. I nodded.

“But, bruh, I ain’t seen you since I saw you hauling ass out the house.” He chuckled.

“Man, they was on some other shit.” I told him, not even wanting to talk about it.

“I knew it had to be something for you to just snap the fuck off like that. It was blood everywhere. I had to knock some shit over and make the shit look like a break in, before having Melanie call the law.” He chuckled. I nodded, I always wondered why they never came after me.

Shit was crazy being locked up with this nigga. It was like shit didn’t change though, he was still my little brother. Nigga was reckless as fuck though. When it was almost time for us to be released, his dumb ass got into a fight and was released from solitaire right before I was set to be released. I sat him down and told that nigga some shit. We sat across from each other and he was just staring at me. I knew that nigga was hurting, his time had just got extended, because of one slip up.

“You have no self-control.” I told him.

“I got self control.” He frowned, defensively.

“You don’t fucking listen.” I started, and he was about to say some shit, but I stopped him.

“See, you not even listening to understand and interpret what the fuck I just said. You listening to respond, which is basically not even listening at all.” I told him.

“You got time added onto your sentence, for what? That nigga in here for life, he don’t give a fuck. That was stupid, and you need to start sitting the fuck back and thinking before you do shit. That’s why you here in the first place.” I told his stupid ass. He sat there and was quiet the rest of the day. When I was released from this hell hole, I had all intentions on bringing E onto the team. Not if he was still being reckless and acting a ass. He was out here robbing and killing motherfuckers with no remorse. Nah, I couldn’t bring that type of heat to my team, so lil bro had to tighten up.

  Three~ Au’Brielle

“Hey, you’re home late.” I said to Aaron.

“I told you I had shit to do.” He snapped, and immediately walked past me to the bathroom. I just sat there and took the rest of my wine to the head. I was so over Aaron and his pissy attitude. I was going to need my wine to get through the night. I didn’t understand, if he didn’t want to be here, why did he come? I could take a wild guess. I put my hair in a ponytail and went to get ready for bed.

I laid down, and Aaron laid right beside me, smelling great. I went to touch him, and he flinched. I frowned, and just stared at his muscular back. I wrapped my arms around him. Aaron was very physically attractive. He was light skinned, wore a short curly cut, green eyes, and a beard. He was extremely muscular, and reeked of sex appeal. Yet, I felt I had to initiate sex with him all the time. Even when we did have sex, it didn’t wow me. It was kind of like a job, for both of us. I was caressing his back and rubbing on him. Just when I was about to lower my hand into his shorts, he stopped me.

“I’m tired, Aubrey. Damn.” He snapped.

“Tired from what, Aaron?” I spat back.

“Just go to sleep. I’m not doing this with you tonight. You in one of your bitch fest moods.”

“Apparently, I’m not the only one in it either.” I mumbled, and he popped up quick.

“What you just said to me? You know what? Fuck this, I’m sleeping on the couch.” He threw the covers off to the side and climbed out. I rolled my eyes and rolled over, holding my pillow.

I was so over this tired ass lifestyle with Aaron. Hell, not even just him, I was tired of my life in general. I was only nineteen years old, and I was miserable. I was going to school to become a nurse practitioner like my mother and father wanted to. They paid all my bills, my school tuition, my car note, and everything else I wanted. But I had to go to school to be a nurse practitioner. Though I loved science and stuff like that, I loved drawing so much more. I wanted to become a tattoo artist. That’s where my heart lied, with art. I knew I could do it, because I had the drive to do it. But when I mentioned it to Aaron, my supportive boyfriend, he laughed in my face. I was just grateful I didn’t show him my sketches, or nothing like that. I would’ve really died. So I just kept my feelings bottled up inside.

“Aubrey, are you going to come out tonight with us?” My friend asked.

“Sure, I need to get out.” I told her.

“I’m excited now. I’m so glad.” Kourtney smiled.

Later that night, I got dressed in a long sleeved, white crop top, with this pin striped, overall dress, that hugged my body tight. I paired it with my black combat heel boots, and left my natural hair in the loose curl it had going on.

“Look at my little fashionista. Okay, girl, you cute.” Kourtney complimented. I smiled and shrugged, already tipsy as hell. I had bought a fifth of Hennessy, and was drinking Henny and Coke. I was already fucked up, honestly.

When we got to the club, I took a couple more shots, and found myself fucked up. Kourtney had somehow managed to get us up to VIP. I was sitting there drinking some water, trying to sober up. Niggas was eyeing me weirdly, and I wasn’t feeling it. The guy whose lap Kourtney was sitting on, put his arm around me. Kourtney smiled, and that’s when shit got weird.

“Yo friend fine, but I want you.” He whispered in my ear. I looked at him like he was crazy, and rolled my eyes.

“You trying to come join the fun in this backroom?” He asked.

  “No, thank you.” I spat.

“You sure?” He held me firmly. I snatched away from him before standing shakily and walking out of their VIP. I bumped into a bunch of men trying to get out, but one guy in particular, grabbed a handful of my butt cheek, and I instantly pushed the crap out of him.

“Are you freaking serious?!” I spat.

“Damn, you sexy as fuck, ma. Why you pushing me and shit damn?”

“Don’t touch me like that, you pig!” I tossed my drink, and cup at him, before making my way back downstairs to the general population. I was about to go, but I just took another shot, and decided to let my hair down. I was trying to drink the thoughts away, it was working. I had met a group of girls and started partying with them. They weren’t the usual crowd I would hang with, but they were fun. Me and the girl, Shae, were having the time of our life. She was teaching me how to twerk, because as thick as I was, I didn’t know what to do with it. I’d never really embraced my curves, honestly.

“Yasss, bitch, move all that ass. Ayy, Ayy, bounce yo ass, make yo knees touch yo elbows!” She cheered. I was smili
ng as the camera’s flashed and I had the time of my life.

“Who you here with? Where yo friends?” She asked.

“My friend ditched me for some dick.” I told her.

“Oh, un uh. You with us now, boo!” She smiled. I smiled back, and threw caution in the wind.

Walking out the club, I was trying to gather my bearings, but that shit was not working. I couldn’t hold my body straight up in the air, I was stumbling, I was fucked up. Shae had put her shoulders under my arm, and was helping me outside.

“Girl, where yo friend?” She asked.

“I don’t know where the hell she at.” I frowned. I pulled my phone out, and Kourtney texted me an hour ago, that she had left the club. I should’ve known.

  “She left.” I laughed.

“I’mma just call an Uber.” I said.

“You gon’ catch one by yoself? Nah. Y’all, we can give her a ride. These niggas out here is ruthless, and that shit would fuck with me if something happened to you.” Shae stressed.

“Yeah, come on, boo. You can roll with us.” Lani added. We strolled across the parking lot, and men kept calling out to us. One even approached Lani.

“Wassup, Lani? Who this chocolate drop y’all got with y’all?” He asked.

“Boy, move the fuck around, with yo broke ass!” Shae snapped.

“Damn.” Everyone commented, and I couldn’t help but to giggle.

“She is fine, she ain’t from round here. Bitch got on combat boots, like she going to war.” They cracked. We got in the car, and I was able to type in my address. I exchanged numbers with them both as they dropped me off. I stumbled into my apartment and sat in the middle of the floor taking off my boots and socks. I started lifting my dress up on my way to my room. Aaron was in there on the phone, but he hurriedly hung up the phone. I took my panties off, and lifted my skirt up, stumbling toward him.
