  Prologue 1

Time passed and as each year went by, they forgot they weren’t alone here on this planet. That once upon a time human weren’t the only ones who used to roam this world. That others called this home. The supernatural’s as they were once known became their fairy tales, the monsters in the darkness.

As the years turned into century’s society believed that we didn’t exist that we were part of the fiction they watched in the movies and in the books they read and we let them believe that until we realised it was no longer possible. Until it was decided by those who thought they knew best that once again we would come out of the darkness believing that we could roam the planet as the humans did and live together in harmony. It hadn’t worked before so why they thought it would this time around!

War begun, cities fell, humans and supernatural’s killed. Some supernatural’s went into hiding, they just disappeared never to be seen again, gone forever. Then a hundred years after the war started a group of humans and supernatural’s decided enough was enough, we had to learn to live together. A treaty was agreed upon, two councils were formed. Humans and supernatural’s, 24 in total. A mixture of supernatural’s and humans sat on these council’s seats. As time passed different threats came and went. Witches rose, evil with no emotions they wouldn’t think twice in gut

ting someone, it didn’t matter who or what you were. They were wiped out, or so it was believed. The other was the Troglodyte’s. They had been a totally different manifestation. Now times are changing again. Witches are about to reveal themselves. The supernatural’s that they thought extinct were going to come forth, Troglodytes were uniting with a new enemy one they hadn’t fought before. If they didn’t combine their forces would all be lost?

  Prologue 2

  The dreams had come again.

I’d had the same ones for so long it had become a routine. Some nights I only had one; others it was continuous. The Demon appeared tormenting me, and as the dream would unfold, the Demon turned into a man. He always looked the same way, a dark tailored suit, his features were sharp, hair jet black, and his eyes as black as the night sky. The outcome was always the same as the Demon and the Man claiming me as his own. His touch burning, setting my body aflame and until it turned into a ball of flames. I knew I was going to meet this Man this Demon. Only the fates would decide when and how we were going to meet, and they were fickle beings.

Last night it had started out as it usually would. Then the vision had developed into individual figures that I couldn’t make out. An ominous dark fog had emerged blending and combining the dreams until I couldn’t make out one from the other. Megan had appeared in front of me, a smile upon her face eyes lit up with laughter. An arm had appeared out of the fog. Its hand closing around her mouth, dragging her back into the darkness. I could still hear the manic laughter as I heard Megan’s muffled cries as she had held out her arms, her eyes open wide in terrified fear begging me to help her. The concern I had seen in her eyes had been real. I took it for what it was, a warning.

Megan was in danger, when it was going to happen, I couldn’t tell, the one thing I did know none of us would be able to stop what was going to happen. No matter how much any of us tried. Whoever was going to take her was powerful enough to have the capability to be able to do so.

I had no choice in what I had to do. I knew who the man was in my dreams, I had known for a long time. I just hadn’t ever told any of my family, and no matter how much they would protest, it had to be me to approach him when the time arose. It couldn’t be any of my other siblings. Mia or Abigail had to be out of the equation. No matter how powerful they were to become.

Is this what the fates had foreseen? Is this what we had been training for so long? Only time would tell.

The only thing I knew, it had to be me.

  CHAPTER ONE

We all knew that this day was coming, it had been forecast many years ago. Every single one of us had been trained for this moment. Our parents had made sure we never forgot that this was in our destiny. We had all thought that we had a few more years before we had to step out into the open. We had been in hiding for so long that it was going to be hard to reveal ourselves.

We knew it was going to be dangerous. That it was initially possible we’d be hunted down and killed off one by one or even worse tortured beyond recognition. The thought of that was even worse than being killed, and with Megan disappearing it seemed that that the time was finally here. Our parents had been the backbone of our community and with them gone we needed to stick together and put the plan we had agreed on into action. We had to get on with finding Megan, getting her home safe and sound that had to be our priority. We had to stop this stupid bickering. It wasn’t helping the situation in any way; it wasn’t proactive, and we still hadn’t decided which one of us was going to go into the lion’s den.

I hated sitting here listening to them going on and on, time was just wasting. I had no choice and had known that before we had even sat down. It was going to be harder to convince them that I already knew what was meant to happen. I stood up and moved over to the fireplace watching and waiting for my opportunity, I couldn’t wait anymore; time was too precious.

‘I’ll do it. I’ll go’ I called out trying to rise above the noise surrounding me, it was a noise so deafening it was hurting my ears. It shocked me as I realised it was coming from my sisters.

It did not come as any great surprise that nobody took any notice…

Bloody hell, if they don’t stop this bickering, I’m going to pull my hair out. I stood there listening to my five sisters. As they tried to tell each other who was going to do what, what was needed and wasn’t. Did this include me? NO, being the youngest completely sucked on most days but at least they listened to me most of the time, one of which wasn’t now.

I carried on standing there wondering what the hell was happening, looking at each of their faces watching, waiting to see which one would get the reddest as their tempers come to boiling point. Someone was going to blast a gasket if they weren’t careful. I must admit I had never witnessed any o
f my sisters lose their cool this way. Oh they sometimes disagreed with each other over stupid things, but this had never happened before. You would think if it was going to be anyone to lose their rag it would be me what with my wild curly red hair.

Pamela was arguing with Ava, while Mia, Abigale along with Emma seemed to be yelling at each other at full volume. I just couldn’t listen to this crap any more it was complete nonsense

‘STOP’ I shouted out on a scream, my voice nearly becoming horse from the volume but getting the desired effect. They stopped speaking, turning their attention towards me. Eyes opened wide in shock; surprise written across their faces as if they just realised that I was in the room with them. It was like they had never heard me raise my voice before. ‘’I said I will go,’’ I repeated, they had to listen to what I had to say.

It took exactly two minutes before all hell broke loose. I stood there listening to all reasons that I couldn’t do it and wouldn’t do it. In my eyes there was not a single good reason that they came up with. Megan had disappeared. It was three days since she’d last been seen, the last sighting was at the Fallen Angel. It was a well-known notorious nightclub. It was rumoured that if you wanted to find a certain type of pleasure then that was the place to find it. It was said that the higher the floor level you entered the more extreme the experience. Anything from Dancing to Sex. Even Blood feedings if you so desired. Of course, everything came with a price depending on your desire. You named it and it was available…. At a price and it wasn’t always with money. It was also owned by no other than Lucien Sinclair sexy as hell, dangerous with a capital D and if rumours were true, a Demon and he wasn’t too fond of humans. If you were a witch, then you were definitely fucked and not in a good way! He was someone you did not want to cross and if you did, well rumours were that you would be lucky to be alive or in one peace when he caught up with you. Anyone with any sense stayed away from his clubs and out of his way. He ruled with an iron fist and if you stayed out of his radar then you didn’t have anything to fear.

Why Megan and her friends had decided to go there we didn’t know. Megan’s friends hadn’t been any help, all we had gotten from them was a vagueness of remembering Megan first going to the bar for a round of drinks then to the bathroom. Each had thought she had told the other that she was going home. She hadn’t, she’d disappeared. The human police had been useless; they were just a waste of time. They tended to stay away from anything Supernatural even if any human had been involved. They tended to leave it in the hands of the Enforcement which was the Supernatural’s own police force. The Enforcement was apparently owned by a group of the most powerful of the Supernatural’s or Naturals as they liked to be known. Of course, the councils weren’t much help either. They normally left it in the hands of the Enforcement to deal with any matters they thought beneath them. With no real help we realised we had no choice but to deal with her disappearance ourselves.

Up to now I had never had the pleasure of seeing Lucien Sinclair in the flesh, which I knew was going to change in the next 48 hours. I was the only one that could go, I know I had never really gone against their advice before but this time there wasn’t any choice, no matter what they said or how much they tried to convince me. I knew without any doubt I had to be the one to go to the Fallen Angel.

I waited patiently, though I felt like screaming. Didn’t they realise that they were wasting time and time was something none of us had. Megan was missing and we needed to find her no matter the cost. She was the one who looked out for us, the one who anchored us when we needed that extra help. I had already spoken to our cousin Melissa and had gotten the herbs that we would need for the binding spell to work along with the instructions. I had passed them onto Pamela earlier on in the day before this discussion had happened.

Pamela Stepped forward taking my hand into her own ‘Scarlett why do you feel it’s got to be you that must go and not one of us?’ Even though Pamela asked me the question I felt as if she already knew the answer. The next question directed at me only confirmed it ‘Have you been dreaming again?’

I knew the reaction my answer was going to cause. I wasn’t going to lie, but I needed to put a stop to their response. Placing a smile across my lips hoping that they didn’t realise that it was forced I gave her a quick nod. ‘I know she was there. We all do,’ I sighed. I knew them too well; they were getting ready to protest. To tell me that I couldn’t go. I knew why, it was my age.

‘Stop.’ I ordered shaking my head, stopping the words from falling from their mouths before they could even fall ‘You’ve got to hear me out. It must be me. My dreams ……. I have to go’ I paused trying to find the right words to express my emotions without frightening and freaking them out. It would be hard to admit to them what was really in my dreams. It would cause them to blow a gasket, so I was going to tell a little white lie. I was going to hold back on the truth and that included the lethal Lucien Sinclair. If I even mentioned his name, they would completely flip out. They would lock me away until I came to my senses. If they stopped me from going it would not only put Megan in danger but the rest of us as well. Something was coming, something that was going to cause so many changes. Changes that had already been set in motion long before Megan had gone missing. With her disappearance it had upped the ante and I knew it wouldn’t be the last. Dangerous times where coming, and it frightened the fuck out of me. They all knew, they could sense it maybe not in the way that I could, but it was still there just not as strong.

‘’None of you can go, it has to be me.’’ I told them. I knew they each saw the fear and the determination written in my eyes and even if they didn’t like what they saw, they each knew that if they didn’t help me, I would find another way. They had to trust me and let me be the one to try to find out what happened to Megan.

They all knew my dreams always came to fruition. The ones I’d had been getting recently were something different. They were more intense and felt more realistic. It was as if I was there. We all felt the dread overwhelming us, it had been materializing inside us for the last few weeks.

  Pamela

Knowing these dreams where something else entirely, I just hoped that none of us would regret letting Scarlett go. We all felt guilty, I could feel the relief that was whelming up inside every one of us. That Scarlett was willing to go in our place. None of us had really wanted to set foot into Fallen Angel and especially didn’t want to set eyes on Lucien Sinclair. I doubted she would see him let alone run into him but there was always that small chance. Just the thought sent shivers down my spine. He was bad news in more ways than one. Everything we had heard and found out about him was true. Dangerous and deadly didn’t cover it. Scarlett would have to be on her guard the entire time with none of us there to cover her back. We all had been trained over the years in self-defence, so we could easily protect ourselves. I and Megan had carried that on after our parents had died. Being witches did not mean we couldn’t get hurt or be killed, we could. We were like any other human in the world we were just lucky we had a little extra zap. We each had our own powers whether it was healing, the gift of seeing the past or future, or moving objects, the list went on.

Scarlett had a mixture seeing into the past and future it was a hell of a burden. One I knew she carried heavily on her shoulders. She had seen many gruesome deaths in the past and I knew she knew that there were more to come. She also could see events that where going to happen. The other was touching an object. Though touching something or someone she could see and tell what they were feeling, what they had experienced or seen. She had once told me the one gift she did love out of them all was the healing touch. She had learnt at an early age that she could not only heal the earth’s soil with a touch of her hands, but the wounded as well. These two gifts she shared with Megan. They were both powerful in their own right, but if combined together it was tenfold.

I could feel my sisters fear, it was so powerful it was overwhelming me. Fear for not onl
y Scarlett and Megan but ourselves as well. We had other family members we cared for and loved, every single one of them were all in danger.

We sat there as listening to her reasons. Knowing how much danger she was willingly putting herself in. We could understand were she was coming from but didn’t have to like it. None of us wanted to step a foot in his night club but we would be there for Scarlett, standing if need be behind or in front of her if she called. We were not going to lose another sister! Mia and Abigail were not happy, being twins they thought one of them should be going in. They were the strongest of us all. With their powers combined they were invincible, the reason they couldn’t go was they were still in training and were still schooling their skills.

We would have to pull forward our powers and combine them together entwining them as if it were a jigsaw sliding into place. Along with our Cousin Melissa’s binding spell and herbs. We had agreed that we were going to take the chance that it would be powerful enough to protect whoever was going to go into The Fallen Angel before Scarlett had stepped forward. Now we needed it to be powerful enough not to only to hide any markings but also to provide her with a concealment spell along with a protection spell.

Placing a protective shield around someone was a big enough problem on its own, combining the three together was an even bigger one. The main problem we had. We had no clue how long it would last, if at all it would even work. What stopped one person in seeing the truth, didn’t mean it would work on the next person you encountered, it came down to them taking a huge chance. Talking well into the night until finally we all agreed that we had to take that chance and there was no option, no matter how we felt. It had to be Scarlett who went in.
