The Diary Dilemma Page 16

Eda walked down the aisle, soaking in the joy coming from the colorful guests. Even if she wasn’t the bride, she felt their happiness, despite the dress so tight she couldn’t breathe. As one of the four maids of honor at Talia’s wedding, her job was to be dull so that the bride could shine. And shine she did—beautiful and ready to be forever bonded with the anxious groom.

The bride and groom joined hands, happiness brightening their faces. It was one of the most important days of their lives, the beginning of forever. Eda and Johan’s eyes met as the pastor began his speech. As he stood behind the groom, Johan was more handsome than ever—at least that was what she could swear.

They kept eye contact until the time for the exchange of the rings began. JP started walking towards the couple, slowly as if he were building up tension on purpose, holding a cream-colored pillow and, on it, the wedding rings. A new sigh of admiration came from the church, but JP kept a solemn posture throughout the process, glancing at his father from time to time.

As she was listening to the wedding vows, Eda thought about how much her life had changed in three months. She found herself in nothing Talia or Bud said in their vows, but that was okay. Every relationship is different. And her relationship with Johan was perfect for the two of them.

After the craziness of the past week setting up the final details of the wedding and the dress crisis, a sense of completion was on everyone’s faces. It was as if the wedding was an end in itself, but it wasn’t.

  It was merely the beginning.
