She slept against his shoulder as he walked along the beach, the surf splashing over his bare feet. Pascal followed his every move with one head focused on Mathias and the other completely focused on Natalia. Mathias stopped and turned when I sent a little swirl of wind against his bare back. Once I reached them, he passed the baby to me and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “Prince Ciril called.”
“What does he want?”
“To offer me a teaching position when the academy opens.”
I looked up from our daughter’s sleeping face to stare at him. “The news said the academy was still in talks.”
“Most of the leaders of the paranormal community are in agreement that it needs to be done.” Mathias shrugged. “However, I suspect it will take time before they can persuade the Therians to cooperate. Caderyn has retreated into isolation again, even from the Fae.”
I couldn’t quite keep from frowning. “More problems with the Therians?”
“Don’t look so worried. We’re retired.” Mathias grinned as he added, “Besides, you scare them.”
I shifted Natalia to my right arm and threw my left hand out, sending a blast of wind at Mathias and tossing him back into the shallows. Pascal yipped and bounded into the water after him. Then, the puppies arrived to clamber all over him, putting him far closer to drowning than I ever could. I laughed softly as I rocked my baby girl. “Your baba is insane. But, he was right. A life on the beach is a good one.”

I have always loved a good suspense especially when it’s balanced out with romance and humor. The Rogue Spotter series was a surprise spurred on by a random writing prompt where I suddenly had a girl who saw numbers and she was stuck with a man whose number indicated he was the most dangerous man alive. Lauren and Mathias leapt onto the page in vivid color and I’m absolutely delighted in how they grew throughout the series. When I first started writing their adventures, I was convinced that Rogue Spotter did not share a universe with my other Urban Fantasy, The Therian Way series. Long story short, I was wrong.
As the series grew, Raina insisted on getting her own time in the adventures of Mathias and Lauren. Much to Lauren’s overwhelmed dismay. I loved weaving the worlds together. And I especially loved the way Lauren grew from start to finish. She’s such an unlikely heroine and totally opposite of Raina especially in the beginning that it made following her growth as an individual all the more exciting for me.
