  My strength was gone.

What I am trying to do is suicidal.

If Daniel comes back and sees me here, it surely won’t benefit Dean or me.

But I had nothing to lose. Dean was still calling out from behind his gag, he was still here and he shouldn’t be, he had to try to flee.

With my little strength, I started to crawl over to Dean.

  And I made it.

I got behind his chair. It was almost impossible for me to lift my hands up, yet I managed somehow.

But the knife slipped out of my hand.

So, I needed to hold it by the sharp edge.

It dug into my skin, but I no longer felt any pain.

I didn’t feel anything, and I hoped that what I was doing was at least going to be successful.

I started to cut the rope and managed to get one of many loops free.

My body was doing it with the last bit of strength I had left.

“Y-You need to get out,” I stuttered quietly, not sure if Dean could hear my voice.

“P-Please! Don’t look back, you need to get away f-from here.”

  He was shaking his head.

  “You need to!”

There was only one rope loop left which needed to get cut, but I was interrupted.

Suddenly, Dean vanished from my sight.

Daniel had returned. He kicked Dean on the floor with his chair.

Dean’s head hit the ground with a loud crack which I knew I would never get out of my mind.

Dean closed his eyes when Daniel kicked him in the stomach.

“You stupid little brat! You think you can help him?”

He grabbed my hair and pulled me back over to the side.

“Now more than ever, I am going to kill him!”

My eyes could no longer open. I was on the verge of losing consciousness.

  “We aren’t finished yet.”

Daniel slapped me hard, so I was forced to open my eyes again.

He held a first-aid bag in his other hand.

“I will fix you up, and then I will get my reward.”

Without mercy, he started to treat the heaviest wounds, and then he licked away the blood on my shoulders, even though the blood immediately ran out again. He didn’t bother doing it again.

  Please, let me die.

I want to die right now.

He took off my trousers and slipped his hand down the side of my underwear.

“Now, I will get what I deserve!”

He kissed my body like a greedy animal and even pressed his bloody lips against mine.

Please, God… If you have a little sympathy for me.

  Then, let me die.

  Please, let me die.

He was so into it that it made me nearly vomit again. Suddenly, a loud noise appeared.

With the loud noise, Daniel disappeared.

My vision was blurred. I barely managed to open my eyes.

  Then I saw Dean.

He was hitting Daniel with the wooden chair while Daniel was lying on the ground and taking all the blows with gasps of shock.

Dean was targeting the psychopath’s head over and over. I heard his anger with each hit.

He screamed out loud and continued to hit him everywhere.

It seemed as if Daniel had been caught off guard. He continued to get beaten by Dean who was mad with fury.

Daniel couldn’t no longer move. His head was bleeding.

I even saw some teeth on the floor.

  “I will kill you!”

Dean’s deep mad voice held no humour in it. But even so, his voice wasn’t nearly as frightening as Daniel’s.

His voice didn’t give me the feeling of being in danger.

  Yet, it didn’t matter.

He needs to get out of here.

  He needs to go home.

My voice didn’t come out when I tried to call out his name.

I tried again and again, but I couldn’t speak.

Dean grabbed the knife and held it up high, my body was shaking.

  “I WILL KILL YOU! MOTHERFUCKER!”

His eyes were red, he was losing control!

  He shouldn’t become a murderer!

  Dean!

I coughed as I tried to speak— I coughed up blood.

And this was when Dean finally noticed me.

  “Oh god! Jenny!”

  He rushed over to me.

“Jenny! I am going to get you out of here! I won’t leave you alone.”

The knife clattered to the floor as he knelt down.

“Please, stay with me. Don’t close your eyes.”

He wasn’t sure were to touch me, since my upper body was all wounded, but as he heard Daniel coughing, he lifted me up without a second thought.

His grip was rough because he was rushing.

His fingers dug in my wounds.

  “We will make it.”

He looked determined. His anger seemed to have given him new strength, an adrenalin rush which made him stronger than ever.

  “We will make it!”

Repeating the words, he carried me out of the room which led us into a hallway.

He rushed through it, searching for a way out, but every door was looked, and the windows were too small to escape through.

The only room left was an old living room. This room was the scene of a bloodbath.

Two bodies were lying on the ground who turned out to be Walter and Olivia.

  “This asshole!” Dean hissed.

I couldn’t take the sight of the bodies. This was too much.

  I hated it.

“We need to find a way out.”

My eyes closed on their own. Yet, I still sensed everything around us.

Dean was searching for a way out, and he cursed when he discovered that we were trapped.

“There is a window! We need to climb out of it, it’s made out of glass. But this will be tricky.”

He kicked against something with his feet, but nothing happened.

I heard his heart beating like crazy, he was breathing heavily.

  He was losing his strength.

  “No! God damnit!”

He kicked again. I heard the glass shatter into thousand pieces and flinched.

“I am sorry, Jenny. I am so sorry. I could only watch you getting tortured. I am so damn sorry.”

  Dean apologised again and again.

Then, he tried his best to climb through the window without hurting me.

Still, I felt some shards cut through my skin. My body was shivering, my head was pounding He was trying hard to save us, he gave it his best to save us… he wanted us to survive.

  Dean is determined.

When he had managed to get us out, he cursed.

  “Damn! It’s cold!”

I felt his gaze on me.

“Hey, Jenny! We are outside. So, please, don’t die on me.”

Hearing his relieved voice was nice.

It was something beautiful in the darkness we were in.

He was hoping for us to be okay. He had hope, the will to live ... While I was hopeless, but if I were to give up now, I would take away his hope.

He doesn’t want me to die.

  “I WILL GET YOU BOTH!”

The mad voice of Daniel echoed around us, and then the sound of a gunshot rang out.

Dean shivered hard, then broke into a run with me in his arms.

He was breathing heavily. Something warm was dripping down on me as he continued to run until he was out of breath. He stopped for a moment to take a break.

Then I felt his gaze on me again… Very carefully, he knelt on the cold ground and sat me down onto his lap.

I heard some noises coming from him, and then he lifted my upper body.

Something warm covered it now. It mixed with my blood.

“Oh god! Jenny, I am so sorry.”

His face was against my forehead.

“Please, say something! I beg you! You are barely breathing.”

/>   His hand was intertwined with my hand, but I couldn’t talk…

I concentrated on the feeling of his warmth, and then I managed to press against the palm of his hand, showing him that I was still alive.

  “Thank god!”

He kissed my forehead and got up again.

Gently, he carried me in his arms.

“Everything will be fine, there are a lot of people who love you. Your mother, Linette, Charlotte, the one who can’t really stand me, alias Tyler. And the most important person is ME!”

He talked to me as if nothing had happened, tried to lighten the mood.

My shattered heart was moved a bit, but the reality was too cold and dark.

  His attempt was nice, though...

  “We will get through this.”

  Suddenly, I heard footsteps.

“There is someone! Jenny, we will make it!”

  Dean started running again.

“HELP!” he screamed. “Please, help us!”

  Somebody yelled.

  “OH MY GOD!”

“CALL AN AMBULANCE!” Dean pleaded loudly.

“Are you okay? Oh my god! Your head is bleeding!”

  It was a female voice.

“Oh god! Is she okay? What happened?”

“Please just call the ambulance!” Dean said again.

  “I am on it!”

  A male voice.

“Oh god! The red hoodie is all drenched.”

Someone touched my arm when I heard those words.

“It was white. The hoodie was white.” Dean’s voice was shaking.

The woman started screaming again. After a moment, I heard sirens.

  Our rescue is coming…

And this was when Dean and I passed out at the same time.

We both collapsed on the ground while the people around us tried to help us up.

  And then everything went dark.

Like the cold darkness I had been kept in years before.

  Chapter 22

“I want you to be my friend!”

This was how our friendship started.

His curly hair was tickling me as he hugged me tight.

“My dad doesn’t want to adopt you, but even if we are far apart, I will come by and stay with you.”

Dean was cuddling with me at the hospital.

He wasn’t like this when we had met for the first time…

After this little girl had shown up at school and called for help, I stayed at the hospital.

The police officer had brought me here.

His name was Bob. He was really nice.

And the doctor here at the hospital was also very nice, even though he looked kind of scary.

Jeffrey was very tall. He barely managed to pass through the doors without bending over.

Many people were shocked by his height!

But even so, he was really gentle with me.

It was so different from what I had experienced all those years.

Dean folded his hands and leaned his head on my bed.

“I heard … Jeffrey would take you in for a year to help you get better.”

He sighed loudly and blew up his cheeks.

Looking … cute, like a teddy bear.

  Our first meeting was different…

  **

  I remembered clearly….

After I was hospitalised, a judge came to ask about my whereabouts.

The tall bald man didn’t talk to me, he only talked to Jeffrey.

And while he did that, I noticed a little boy next to the man.

This little boy barely reached the man’s waist, his curly brown hair was all over the place as if he just had woken up from a nap. He glared at me, but he also looked curious.

His hazel brown eyes were glowing in the rays of the sun shining through the window.

“Go over there, you don’t need to listen to our talk,” the judge said as he pushed the little boy into the room.

Shyly, he sat down on a chair next to the window, maintaining a safe big distance between us.

He looked outside, acting like I wasn’t here.

And I … I was lying on the bed looking down on my fingers.

I could neither talk nor write, and I was still not used to anything.

“So, you really can’t talk?” his cute voice asked after a long moment of silence.

I looked up at him, not sure whether to answer his question by shaking my hands or my head.

  “How boring!”

He sighed and lowered his head down onto the table.

“Do you even understand what I am saying?”

His eyebrows rose as he looked at me arrogantly.

“You need to answer me. I don’t like it when people ignore me!”

  He snuffled and sighed again.

Again, a long moment of silence passed.

“I hate it. I really hate it. Why does my dad always want me do what he wants me to do?”

I didn’t know if he was talking to me or to himself— but either way, I was listening.

Even though he was complaining, I still enjoyed hearing him talk.

It was so different, so normal …

He spoke his mind, and it was really refreshing.

“Dean, let’s go! We are finished here.”

The judge called him over which made the little boy’s lips curl.

  “Finally! God, this was boring!”

He looked at me for the last time, and this was when I smiled shyly, as a goodbye, and as a thank you for keeping me company.

His eyes were wide open, surprised by my reaction.

With a troubled face, he shook his head, then stuck out his tongue before he left with the judge.

He was mean, but still … It was refreshing because besides Bob and Jeffrey, nobody else kept me company.

  So, I really enjoyed it.

I didn’t think that I would see him soon again, since it seemed like he had disliked my company. But after a week had passed, he returned, and the following day, too, and the next day after that.

With every day he visited me, he came closer with his chair.

Until, one day, he reached my bed.

“So, I told him to get out of my sight,” he ended his story with an annoyed face.

Telling me about a kid in school who had only acted as a friend because Dean had the latest Gameboy.

“Do you think I was the bad guy?” he asked shyly.

  I shook my head.

“Thank you, but … Wow! This is the first time that you answered me!”

He clapped his hands and smiled brightly. He flashed me his teeth, and his eyes sparkled.

Then he took my hand. I didn’t know how to react.

Feeling his tiny hand with his big warmth that went right through me was a feeling I hadn’t felt before.

“Do you think I am annoying?”

I shook my head again, not sure whether to enclose his hand with mine.

  “Are your fingers not well?”

  I looked at him confused.

“You need to hold my hand right.”

He touched my fingers and pressed them against his palm.

“You need to hold it,” he explained.

Shyly, I tried it carefully. As I looked down at our hands, the warmth passed through my skin went right into my hear. It made me smile.

“Way better, you should smile more often!”

I looked him in the eyes which made him instantly let go of my hand.

“Er… Well, anyway! You should hurry up and start talking. It’s getting boring, talking to myself.”

  His cheeks reddened.

  I didn’t understand his reaction…

Days passed. Bob took me out of the hospital for the questioning.

“Everything will be fine,” he promised me as he guided me to a building which looked huge.

“Don’t be afraid. I will protect you!”

We passed through a gate and got in after we were checked by security.
/>   Bob explained that it was normal to get searched since nobody was allowed to take anything inside which could hurt other people.

He asked an officer which room I needed to go to before the questioning.

  “Room 212.”

Bob took me to the room and helped me sit on a chair. He took the seat next to me and started talking about his day.

He tried to distract me from my thoughts, but he was interrupted when his phone started to ring.

“May I take the call?” he asked me gently.

Bob was careful around me. He knew how to act with me, how to treat me.

  He was really nice.

I nodded with a little smile. He left the room and closed the door.

As I waited for him to return, I looked around. The room was huge. I was sitting on a chair next to a big round table. On the table, there were glasses and bottles of water.

Maybe I could take a glass, but I didn’t want to right now since I wasn’t really thirsty.

A big window with large brown curtains was in front of me. They gave me a view of the trees outside. The sky was cloudy, and it looked like it would start to rain at any moment.

My gaze went to the shelves that had been arranged in every corner.

They were filled with books and folders. It looked amazing and somehow gave the room a dignified appearance.

Between the shelves there was another door. It was smaller than the door that I had come through minutes ago.

My eyes went to the doorknob and watched how it moved.

At first, I thought I was imagining things, but then it really happened.

The door opened slowly. My heart-rate increased rapidly.

A shadow came out, and Daniel Wilson appeared.

My whole body began to shake. I was so afraid that I even peed myself.

The last time I ran away and got back into their fangs, was so horrible. He even warned me that if I ever tried to do it again, he would do everything to me again… and worse.

  “Here you are.”

His whisper passed straight through my veins. He lifted his finger up to his mouth, telling me to stay silent.

I couldn’t scream, even if I wanted. However, I could make noises, and this was worth a try, because he would kill me eventually, anyway.

I tried to reach the glass, but he had already managed to get in front of me.

He covered my mouth with his hands and dragged me out through the small door.

He pulled me from one room to another room, and he managed to pass through the hall and into the stairwell.

  “We need to stop him!”
