As the day progressed, the speeches were given and then the younger folk began to dance. Lady Catherine asked Henry to take a walk with her. “I need to stretch my legs, and my dancing days are long since gone.”
They walked arm in arm in silence for a time before discussing the wedding. They laughed at the party of potential husbands she had arranged for Anne and agreed it was the worst way to find a husband imaginable.
As the light began to fade, they turned and made their way back to the reception party.
“You know what they say, Your Ladyship.”
“What do they say, Henry?” She looked at him with curiosity.
“That going to one wedding is sure to bring on another.” He smiled.
Lady Catherine keenly noted the twinkle in Henry’s eye and, unsure of its meaning, blushed deeply.
