Back to the same room, for more madness. They started to tie me up again. “Can you please not tie me,” I moaned, squirming in the uncomfortable chair. “I promise I won’t try to escape. It hurts.”
The young blonde one looked at the older one, who shrugged.
Small victory. I sat there, massaging my wrists, wondering if things would get worse. I had a feeling they would. I had a feeling that I might not live to see another day.
I’d been here for hours, and there was no telling what was going on. In that stark white room, on that hard chair, surrounded by those two Fury morons, who kept pointing their big guns at me and acting macho, all I could think about was the last time I felt completely safe.
With Nix. In an embrace that I never should have left.
Someone knocked on the door. The blonde kid opened it a few inches. I couldn’t see him, but I heard him bark out, “You’re wanted outside. Both of you. Leave the girl and come right now.”
The men cast me one more leering glance before filing out.
Alone.
I wondered what that meant. Where they were headed. What was going on.
My mind drifted, once again, to Nix. I’d never felt so protected as I was with his strong arms wrapped around me, cocooned within his warm, perfect muscles.
When we’d had sex the last time, it’d been perfect. Sweeter, slower, more intimate. We’d been tired from fucking all night, and that rabid madness was gone, but we still clung to each other like we needed each other.
That last time wasn’t just fucking. No, it had gone beyond that. I could see something fragile in his eyes, as if I’d opened a door inside him that had been sealed for so long.
“You do things to me, Liv,” he’d rasped, his eyes cemented on mine as he laid me on the bed and peeled off his jeans. The great and powerful Nix had been brought to his knees, by me.
I’d loved the feeling of that power. I loved to feel him inside me, so strong and hard and powerful, but what I’d really loved is that we were each other’s weakness. We could’ve so easily built each other up and tore each other down.
I thought about how he’d crushed his mouth onto me, rolling over onto me, kissing my ear with a hot breath. Then he’d lifted me up by the arms, gently resting my head down so that my head was upon the pillow. His mouth had sank into the skin on my neck, nibbling his way to the hollow of my throat.
Then, he’d reached down and very slowly dragged a finger over my hip, hooking my thong, and slipping it down my thighs, slowly lifting one leg, then the other. I shivered just thinking about it.
Oh, God, he was so fucking sexy.
And the way Nix had looked at me—like I was the only woman in the world—had given me confidence. Made me feel beautiful and sexy and wanted.
“Ride me, girl,” he’d demanded. “I want you to ride me with that tight pussy of yours. I want to feel you and see you grinding on top of my cock.”
He had been so nasty. I was getting wet just remembering how good he felt. And the words he’d used.
The tip of his cock had touched my entrance, and I had adjusted, finding the right rhythm to sink on to him.
Nix was the biggest I’d ever had, and I’d had his cock in me before. But I’d felt a little doubt, wondering whether I could take him in fully from the top. Still, the feeling of him pulsing beneath me, inside me, only made me want to try more.
My eyes had locked with his, clinging desperately, widening like saucers as I’d took him in, feeling myself stretch. He’d been so thick and hard, pulsing alive inside me.
When I’d taken the last of him in, I’d trembled in a mixture of relief and completion.
“Goddamn girl, you feel so tight and good,” he’d husked out, reaching up and savagely grabbing my chin, drawing my mouth down to his for a hard, demanding kiss. He’d growled and sat up, twisting my hair at the nape and grabbing it in two vicious handfuls as he’d rocked into me.
I might have been the one on top, but he’d been the one controlling the ride, pushing into me, setting the rhythm. And I’d happily let him have it, giving all the power to him. Whatever he’d done, he’d done it perfectly, striking a chord in me that had never been hit before. I’d felt it with every thrust, found myself moaning and humming and thinking I’d never find anything better as long as I lived.
I’d wrapped my arms tight around his back and dug in, ready to enjoy this ride, a ride I knew would be just as wild and hot as Nix himself.
He had taken control of my body effortlessly, like he’d owned it from the start. He’d dragged his hands down so they were spanning my waist as he’d drilled into me, watching my breasts swaying to the rhythm. Even though he had gazed at me like I belonged to him, there had been something in his eyes that told me I wasn’t just his possession—I was his precious possession, something he would always take care of. Something like awe.
A sheen of sweat had appeared on his forehead as he guided me up and down, again and again, faster, faster, until the room was spinning.
I’d let my mouth wander, hot and wet, over his salty skin, sucking and licking and thrashing on him as we moved more and more erratically.
It was so hot, so wet, so good. Unlike anything I’d ever felt.
One second, we had been thrashing together, in tune, two hearts as one, fucking and biting and moving and growling, and then next moment, we’d been grinding and flying over a climax that had taken me into oblivion. He’d shuddered like never before, cock jerking inside me, our wet bodies fused together with sweat, and yet we’d been coming apart inside.
He’d let out a groan that was partly a laugh, tensing as he’d held onto me, his head falling onto my shoulder. Then he’d rolled me over, murmuring words into my hair I couldn’t quite hear as he thrusted a few more times for good measure, retriggering my orgasm.
He had stayed inside me after he came, wrapping his arms around me as our breathing returned to normal. “You’re safe with me,” he’d whispered in my ear, and I’d known it.
Fuck! What have I done?
I’d gotten that call, and stupid me...I ran away. Left.
Left my protection.
Left Nix, who was probably wondering, right now, where I was and what the hell was going on. Maybe he was calling church.. Maybe they were all sitting around, right now, deciding what to do about the Fury, what to do about me.
Maybe they didn’t care?
If something didn’t happen soon, I’d be dead—or worse.
And, I was pretty sure I was falling in love with Nix Nash.
Nix Nash, the rough, dirty, completely-wrong-for-me biker. I was totally infatuated. And if I lost him, I knew I’d never feel that way again.
I wondered if I’d ever have a chance to tell him. Could I tell him that? Even if he didn’t feel the same?
Yes, if I got the chance, I would tell him. Tell him, hold him, and hope that he’d never want to let me go.
My legs were falling asleep. It seemed like hours since I’d first been escorted into the room, since I told my father to get out. I scanned the room. There were no windows. The walls were bare, except for brackets everywhere that may have been shelving. It looked like it might have once been a storage closet. The door was solid and gray, but in the space under the door, I could see shadows moving back and forth.
At least I was no longer tied up. Rubbing my sore muscles, I stood and walked circles around the room, trying to restore feeling to them. Then, because I had nothing else to do, I tried the doorknob.
Of course, it was locked.
Frowning, I started to walk away but stopped when I realized I could hear voices. Very soft, they seemed to be coming from right outside the door.
I listened closer. Sure enough, two men were speaking. They sounded like the Hell’s Fury members who’d escorted me downstairs and guarded me earlier, the blonde kid and the older guy.
Pressing my ear against the door, I could make out very little, a word here or there. They seemed bored, talking about what they
were going to do later in the night, wondering when they thought they could get home.
Then I heard one of them say Anderson.
Crouching, I pressed myself tighter against the door, sliding to ground, until I could hear almost everything.
“What time do you think all of this shit’s going to be wrapped up?” the one voice said. “Because Anderson’s little girl in there’s got my dick hard and I need to go get myself some pussy.”
The other man laughed. “If anyone’s having her, it’s Blaze.”
“Yeah. Fuck. That fucker has all the luck.”
“But hell, it might not even be him. I don’t even know if Blaze wants her. She’s been with Phoenix. He just wants to off her.”
“Yeah. So what’s the plan?”
“First, we get the Cobras here. Blaze placed the call to Nix. They’re plenty riled up now and it’s only a matter of time before they show their pussy asses. Once they get here, we show ‘em who the fuck is boss around these parts. And we don’t let ‘em leave.”
“So we off them?”
“We’ll have a little fun with them first. But yeah. We’ve been at odds with them for way too long. Blaze wants them wiped off the face of the earth. There’s thirty of them at most. We got over a hundred brothers. Pick ‘em off, one by one, if we have to, but the name of the game is getting them out of Aveline Bay.”
“And the girl?”
“Kill her too.”
“Fuck. It’s gonna be a bloodbath.”
“Yep. That’s what Blaze wants.”
There was a pause. “So...if we’re gonna just kill her...what’s to stop us from going in there and taking a little something? You know my girl’s a bitch, especially when I get home too late.”
The other guy laughed. “Not a whole hell of a lot. Just that if Blaze found out, he’d fuck you up. Depends on how hard up you are, if you want to chance it.”
I backed away from the door, breathing hard.
I was live bait, never meant to leave this place alive. And neither was Nix, or any of the other Cobras.
Shaking, pressing myself against the wall, I wished to God I could somehow warn him of the trap he was walking into.
This was all my fault.
I’d walked myself into a pit of rabid wolves, and there was no escape. I’d never leave this room, and I’d never see Phoenix Nash again.
And I knew it was too late. Nix would never know how much I loved him.
Chapter Twenty-Five
Phoenix
“This is bullshit,” Drake ground out as we gathered around Hart’s computer, making our plans.
The sun had sunk below the horizon a long time ago, and now the orange sunset was giving way to the black of night. I bounced from place to place in Cullen’s house like a pinball, so wound up I thought that once I started to rip into Hell’s Fury, I’d never stop.
Cullen ended a call on his phone and threw it down on the center island of the kitchen. He’d just gotten the news that a few hours ago, a few Cobras had gotten into a gunfight, in broad daylight, at the Circle K downtown. With Hell’s Fury.
“Our guys are okay,” Cullen breathed out, clearly pissed. “The police came so they had to get out. But they weren’t even giving them trouble. They were minding their own business. The Fury just opened fire on them.”
“What the fuck...in broad daylight?” Zain muttered, fisting a handful of his faux hawk on top of his head. “What’s giving them the balls to pull that shit?”
“I’ll tell you what,” I said, shrugging like it was obvious. “They’ve bought the police.”
Jet let out a short laugh. Apparently the kid was now disagreeing with me on everything, including whether the sky was blue. “Give me a break.”
But Cullen nodded. “I wouldn’t put it past them. So they have the police in their pocket and our only chance is to show up on them, refuse to hand over those contacts, and tell them we’re not going down without a fight.”
“After we make sure Olivia’s safe,” I added.
Cullen looked at me and nodded. “Right.”
Jet rolled his eyes, but there was less fight in them.
We leaned over Hart’s laptop as he typed in the address of Anderson’s building. It was an enormous outfit overlooking the bay, all glass windows. He zoomed in on the back entrance, where Cullen and I were expected to enter. I closed my eyes. Even in the parking lot, we’d be sitting ducks.
“This is a trap,” I said.
“Of course it is,” Cullen added.
Jet shook his head. “Then why are we taking the chance? They’re going to kill us all, anyway. It’s like you’re asking to die.”
“Because this needs to end. Somehow. Whether it ends with us winning, or dying, we can’t sit by and do nothing and lose everything we got,” Cullen snapped back. Maybe he didn’t get what Liv meant to me, but at least he understood that we needed to deal with the Fury. We’d let the problem fester until it was out of control and now we needed to finish things.
Even if it got Cullen and me killed. We couldn’t stand by and let the Fury have the run of Aveline Bay.
Jet crossed his arms and chewed at the inside of his cheek. “It’s a death sentence.”
I fired back, “And you have a better idea?”
He shook his head and looked at the ground. “I...just…”
“Got it. Do nothing. That’s not an option.” I shook my head at him to show him just how fucking disappointed I was in him.
He clamped his mouth closed. I knew what he was thinking. I was the last blood he had left. We may have had it out and we may have been at each other’s throats, but I was still his brother.
We took our weapons off the table and loaded them with the box of bullets Cullen had offered. I shoved the gun into the back of my waistband and looked at the others. “You wait for us on Sunset, on the place Hart marked on the map. We’ll rally together in the parking lot across from Anderson’s building. If we need you, we’ll send a message to Hart.”
Cullen pulled on his vest and looked at Jet. “If any of you fuckers aren’t with us, you can leave now.”
Jet plunged his hands into the pockets of his jeans and looked away.
“Let’s go,” Cullen said, motioning us out the back door.
We got to our bikes, parked in his long, C-shaped driveway. As I slipped onto mine, I realized Jet was on my heels. “Hey,” he said.
He sounded every bit like a kid of thirteen. I slid my helmet on, tightening the strap. “Yeah?”
“I’m in,” he said. “All in.”
“Are you?” I challenged.
“All right. I get it. I’m being an ass,” he bit out.
I let out a bitter laugh. “Yeah. You are.”
He was my brother. I could tell it to him straight.
He looked truly sorry though. I’d seen that look in his eyes about a thousand times, usually whenever he’d fucked up. “Look. I know. It’s stupid. But you know it’s always been you and me. And you’ve been with a lot of women before and it never got in our way. But now it’s you, and this girl, and you’re not around anymore.”
“That’s not true,” I said, though I knew he was right. During the day, I’d usually go to the garage to fix bikes, even when I wasn’t needed, because I liked getting my hands dirty, hanging with my brother and shooting the shit. But in the past few days, I hadn’t shown up once.
I hadn’t thought it mattered to him. He was a grown man and didn’t need me like he once did. But Jet had a soft side. He’d been left without parents when he was just a kid. And I guess that fear of being abandoned never went away.
“Yeah, you’re right. I didn’t think I’d take it this bad. But I get it. I get that she means something to you. And I trust that your judgment hasn’t totally left you.” He looked down at the ground, sheepish. “I guess I can’t expect us to always—”
“Look, man. You can expect things from me. I’m your brother. You’re right that I haven’t been around lately. But
I always got your back. Okay, bro? If you need me, you call. Got that?”
He nodded.
“And I expect things from you, too, man. I want you to be on my side and not give me shit. Of all people, you should’ve been behind me. Because you know I’d do it for you. I’ve always done it for you, even when we were kids.”
He nodded again. “Yeah, man. I know you would.”
“All right,” I said, motioning him toward me. “Come on. Give it here.”
I pulled him into a hug and ruffled his hair. When he pulled away, he wiped away what I knew was a tear. I wondered if it was because the hug had hurt his gunshot wound, or if he was thinking he might never see me again.
“Get your ass on your bike, pretty boy,” I called after him, and I saw a hint of a smile before he turned away.
Whatever it was, I’d never been more aware of my own mortality as when we gunned our bikes and pulled out of the driveway in formation, gliding down the road under a full California moon.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Olivia
Once I finished scanning the bare room for the thousandth time, looking for a way out, I accepted the fact I’d be stuck here until someone came to save me. If someone came.
My backside was numb, and now, exhaustion swept over me. I fought to keep my eyes open, but my eyelids slipped shut as I continued to listen to the men outside drone on about how much they wanted to leave so they could get laid. They spoke about it so casually. I guess they hadn’t read the memo about the huge war coming their way. And the tag line: they might not survive it. Didn’t they realize how stupid and pointless this was?
It was only a matter of time before they killed me. The Cobras. Nix.
I saw nothing but a black hole.
But maybe I could fix things. I shouldn’t give up hope. Not yet, anyway. If they were going to kill me, no matter what I did, then I had nothing to lose.
