“That would be one expensive cab,” Finn finally said something, and the whole table looked relieved that he was snapping out of whatever funk he’d been in.
Tossing her hair over her shoulder for effect, she grinned. “I’m rich, remember? Daddy’s credit card can pay for anything.”
It wasn’t something she usually bragged about, but it was true. She had always had the most expensive clothes, the most expensive schools. There was a trust fund with her name on it, waiting until she turned twenty-four. Never in her life would she actually have to work, not if she didn’t want to. But the idea of not working put a sour taste in her mouth and made her feel nothing short of useless. “You won’t need to worry about charging Daddy’s credit card today,” Levi said, standing up with her. “I’m about ready to head back. Too many damn kids here.”
Grant looked like he was about to stand up too when Olivia looked him straight in the eye. “We absolutely have not gone on the merry-go-round enough times yet.”
He settled back down in his seat, defeated. And going slightly green in the face all over again. “Finn and I were going to go grab a few drinks at the pub, so we’ll head back with Grant and Liv when they’re done with the fair,” Oscar looked like he almost felt sorry for Grant, but was much more interested in teasing him about it for the rest of his life.
“Looks like it’s just us then,” she said. “We’ll see you all later.”
“Don’t have sex in the damn barn,” Grant called out after them as they walked away, quietly enough to avoid glares from the surrounding parents.
“If we do, you’ll never know,” Maeve smirked and waved, allowing Levi to put his arm around her waist again as they walked away.

“We are not having sex again,” she tried to sound like she was firm on the issue. As she scanned his bare chest it was clear that she was interested.
They’d walked in the front door of the house and he’d started stripping. Now he stood in front of her with his cowboy hat in one hand and his shirt in the other. His chest was damp with sweat that she wanted to lick off of him and she could almost feel herself sucking a hickey into the side of his neck. A way to claim him away from the women he’d fucked in the past. The women like Allison. But instead of giving in to her urges, she stood demurely beside the door, as far away from him as she could get. She kept her hands clasped together in front of her.
OK, it was more like they were clenched together as she tried to remind herself why more sex with Levi was a terrible idea. “I never said we were going to have sex again,” he grinned at her as he dropped his shirt to the ground and reached for his belt. “I was planning on going to have a shower. Wash off the day.”
“You don’t have to strip in the entryway if you’re planning on having a shower. You’re planning to walk up two flights of stairs naked and holding your clothes?”
“That’s exactly what I plan to do.”
He got his belt undone. She couldn’t help the way she drooled as he deftly undid the button and fly of his jeans and pushed them down his legs until he could step out. The black boxer briefs he was wearing cupped his package in a way that drew the eye. Anyone would have looked. It was unavoidable. When his fingers teased along the waistband she gathered up her strength and turned to walk into the kitchen, needing to be anywhere but with him. Having sex the second time had been a poor decision. Fucking Levi a third time? That would be plain stupid. And if there was one thing that Maeve wasn’t, it was stupid.
She could hear bare feet following her. When she reached the kitchen Levi was still there, right behind her, wearing nothing but those tight underwear. They did nothing to hide the fact that he was half-hard. “What the hell are you doing?” she demanded.
“Well, since no one else is home I was planning on eating some cereal naked,” he said, grabbing a bowl and the box of cereal from the pantry. “It’s a little tradition I have. Not one I get to practice much, considering how infrequently I’m home alone.”
“You aren’t home alone.”
His hand reached out to caress her cheek and she froze, wishing his calloused fingers were caressing her somewhere entirely different. “Well, you’ve already seen me naked.”
“You’re insufferable.”
Spinning around she strode away from him, stepping around his clothes as she went up the stairs. He followed her like she’d known he would, picking up his clothes as he went. She didn’t stop on the second floor where her bedroom was. Her feet carried her all the way up to the third floor and through the door of his bedroom. Even though she knew better than to do this, she couldn’t stop herself. Not when he was going to tease her. As soon as he entered the room he tossed his clothes aside and closed the door firmly behind them. “That was easier than I thought it would be.”
“You’re an asshole. I’m sticking by that. But unfortunately, you’re a sexy asshole and I’m horny, so it looks like you get what you want,” she pulled her shirt over her head and dropped it beside her. “We’re going to have to set some ground rules if we’re going to continue having sex. One, no dates. I don’t do dates and I’m assuming neither do you.”
Levi nodded, his gaze focused on her tits. She reached up to grab a small handful just to watch as his cock hardened in his underwear. “Two, when I leave Pelmsemet, this ends. No sleeping together on future visits. This is a three-week deal and that’s it.”
“I can live with that. Anything else?”
“Three, don’t you dare fall in love with me.”
He looked taken aback for a second before he laughed. “What makes you think you won’t be falling in love with me first?”
“I don’t do love.”
“Neither do I,” he shot back.
“Fine, we’ll make the rule fair. No falling in love is allowed on either side. You happy?”
“I won’t be happy until I’m balls deep in your sweet cunt.”
He stalked over to her and their lips met in a searing kiss. She didn’t let it last long, pulling away to do what she’d been aching to do since he pulled off his shirt. Running her tongue along his collarbone she ended at the crook of his neck, sucking a dark hickey into the skin. He groaned and groped her ass. “You did get jealous today,” he murmured when she pulled back.
“As if you didn’t,” she countered, reaching down to grab his cock through the fabric of his underwear. “Don’t think I didn’t notice the way you had your arm around me, all possessive and alpha male.”
Levi didn’t have anything to say to that, picking her up so her legs had to wrap around his waist and carrying them into the ensuite bathroom. The shower stall was a large tiled square and he set her down inside, turning the water on before they even had a chance to finish stripping down. It hit her, cold at first, but warming until steam surrounded them. Tipping her head back she let the warm water run over her face and through her hair, hands resting on Levi’s chest. When she tipped her head back down and opened her eyes, Levi was looking at her strangely. There was something in his eyes. “Is something wrong?”
Chapter 6
Levi
Maeve was damn gorgeous. He wasn’t sure how he hadn’t been attracted to women with shorter hair before now. As she tipped her head back and let the water run through it, he couldn’t stop staring at the soft curve of her neck. The way her nipples were hard under the spray. The droplets of water that beaded on her skin. “Is something wrong?”
Shaking himself, he realized that he hadn’t even noticed she had her eyes open again. “No, nothings wrong.”
She didn’t press the topic. It was a good thing, too, because he didn’t know how he was going to explain how he was looking at her. He’d never looked at someone who was just a sex-partner like he looked at her. That concerning thought was thrust to the side when her warm body pressed right up against his again. “You should have let us take all our clothes off before getting into the shower,” she said, hand trailing down his chest until it hooked in the waistband of his u
nderwear.
“And miss out on the sight of you soaking wet in those tight shorts I’ve been thinking about all day? Never.”
They’d been clinging to her before, but now the shorts were plastered against her soft skin. It left nothing to the imagination. Not that he needed to imagine. What she looked like underneath her clothes was burned into his memory for eternity, had been since the very first time they slept together. Maeve snapped the waistband against his skin once, teasingly. Then she grabbed it with both hands and tugged the black boxer briefs down his legs. She threw them, soaked, out onto the bathroom floor. Wet tile was a problem they could deal with later. Right now, Maeve was getting comfortable between his legs to deal with another problem.
“If we’re going to be fucking for the whole time I’m here, you’re eventually going to have to come in my mouth,” she said, her hands rubbing warm water along his length. “Not today. But sometime before I leave for New York.”
He didn’t have a chance to come up with some witty reply because she pulled his length into her mouth. All rational thoughts left him. It was hard to forget that she’d given him the best blowjob of his life in the back of his truck. Having it happen again was a thousand times better than the memories, though. She gave it the same level of gusto she had the last time. When he was getting close to release he didn’t want to pull her off but tugged at her hair regardless. “I need to fuck you right now,” he said. After that, he wasn’t sure if he had the full functions of his brain behind him.
Maeve didn’t waste time, standing and bracing her hands against the wall of the shower stall. “Get on it then,” she demanded, sliding her feet a bit further apart to give him plenty of room.
A brief exploration with his fingers confirmed that she was dripping wet and ready, all from sucking him off. Just like she’d been that first time. Levi wasn’t sure if he could think of anything that could turn him on more. Sliding his cock alongside her entrance a few times he waited until she cursed at him. Then he pressed the tip of his cock against her and shoved all the way inside. They both groaned, hardly noticing as the water went from hot to warm. His first few thrusts were slow and gentle and even when he started thrusting into her hard, he pulled himself back out slowly. “Hey asshole, are you going to fuck me or not?” Maeve grew impatient and glared at him over one of her shoulders.
She looked even more beautiful that way, all annoyance and flushed cheeks and drenched hair. That would be the image he jerked off to for the rest of his damn life. “I am fucking you,” he grinned at her. The slow pace was torturous for him to, but he would keep it up if it irritated her.
The sound she let out was similar to a growl, but instead of begging or asking for what she wanted like he’d thought she would, she pulled away. He mourned the loss of her tight heat clenching around him and took her lead as she shut off the shower water and haphazardly dried herself off. Still dripping as she walked back into the bedroom, Levi followed her. A hand reached out to grab his aching cock and she pulled him gently forward by it until he was standing beside the bed. Then she pushed him.
If he’d been expecting it she wouldn’t have been able to do it. Through the foggy sex haze of his current brain, he hadn’t been able to figure out what her plan was. Not until he was lying on the bed and she was straddling him. “I have to do everything myself,” she said, but the mischievous glint in her eye told him that she wasn’t all too mad about that.
Hands going to grab her hips he helped as she fucked him. The new pace brought him rocketing to the edge of orgasm faster than he’d been expecting. He brought one hand down to rub Maeve’s clit, helping her along. “Oh god, I’m going to come,” she moaned, continuing to bounce on him.
Her walls clenching around him did him in and he came right behind her, yelling her name as his hips stilled. Panting, she stayed hovering above him for a second, impaled on his softening length. Then she slid off and collapsed onto the bed beside him. “That’s the first time we’ve had sex in a real bed,” she stated. “There are some bonuses.”
“What kind of bonuses?”
“Like the fact that I’m not going to be moving for a good long while.”

Maeve was true to her word. She stayed lying on the bed, barely moving, for an hour. Until the sound of her cell phone ringing from her bag drew her away. They hadn’t been cuddling, exactly, but they’d been lying right next to each other. Talking about everything and nothing. There was a sense of camaraderie that he’d never had with anyone else he’d ever slept with. “Fucking hell, who’s calling me?” he heard her mutter under her breath as she slid off the bed.
The phone had been ringing for so long by the time she got to it that he was surprised it hadn’t gone to voicemail already. “Hi, mom,” Maeve had finally unearthed it. “No, I’m doing well. Had a bit of a long day today.”
Levi was trying not to pay too much attention, but it was hard not to listen when her voice was the only sound in the room. “You’re sure you want me to come and not dad? Uh-huh, I’ll write down the date. I should be back in New York by then.”
Holding the phone between her ear and her shoulder, she rifled around her purse for a pen and paper, coming up empty. Reaching over to one of the side tables, he pulled out a pen and notepad and tossed it in her direction. “OK, OK. Yep, I’ve got it. Look, mom, I’ve got to go right now but I’ll call you sometime in the next few days. Promise. Love you.”
When she hung up the phone she tossed it back into her tiny purse before coming over to the bed. She was still scribbling a few things on the tiny pad of paper. Glancing over at what she had written, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Your handwriting is terrible,” he said, looking at the vaguely legible chicken scratch on the page. “I’ve never seen a woman with handwriting that bad.”
As expected, Maeve glared at him. “It’s a bad habit I picked up when I was younger. We spent a lot of time at my grandmother’s house before she died and I copied her handwriting. The only problem with that was that hers was terrible. Literally the worst example I could have been using.”
“Why did you copy your grandma’s handwriting over anyone else’s?”
Sighing, she looked down at the piece of paper for long enough that he was sure she wasn’t going to answer. “I looked up to her. She was such a sunny and warm person and even though she was filthy rich she cared more about people than money,” a smile slid across her face at the memory. “It’s funny because my mom is just like her. Was even more similar to her before she died.”
“Why would that be funny?”
“She was my dad’s mother. Her and my mom were only related by marriage. But my dad couldn’t be more different than her, especially after her money came into the picture.”
He sensed more of a story there, but he didn’t want to push her too much. It wasn’t as if he was going around giving out information about his ex-wife and parents. “Wish I could have met her,” it might have sounded weird, considering that they weren’t together in any official capacity. But it was true. Levi could imagine that Maeve got a lot of her better traits from the woman. Although he was pretty sure her unending drive to do better came from her father, if his assessment of the family was even remotely correct.
“She would have liked you.”
Without thinking he reached out to caress her cheek and her eyes lit up in surprise. It was enough to remind him that nothing between them was serious, or was ever going to be. And that was for the best. All that would end up happening if he fell in love with Maeve was that he would get his heart broken. There was no doubt in his mind that she would leave him for a career opportunity or something of the like. “Do you want to go somewhere on Wednesday?” his traitorous mouth spoke above his thoughts. “It’s supposed to be hot, and there’s this lake nearby that’s kind of like a local watering hole. I know a secluded area where we could sit on the beach, maybe swim a little.”
Maeve’s hand went up to brush his and he realized he was still touch
ing her cheek. “Didn’t we just say that we weren’t going to do dates?” she countered, rubbing the pad of her finger along the rough skin of his hand.
“It’s not a date, not really. I’d be more of a tour guide. If you’re going to survive three weeks here in the summer you’re going to want a place with water to escape to. This way I can show you and you’ll know so you can go yourself.”
“I think that’s a cop-out and you know it.”
He couldn’t deny it. “Do you want to come or not?”
“Of course I’m coming.”

Wednesday started with a completely cloudless sky and heat from the moment they woke up. They’d had sex every day since they set the rules but still avoided things that would cross lines. There was no cuddling. Maeve pulled on her clothes to head back down to the bedroom she was staying in every night. She’d never stayed the night in his room. For all intents and purposes, they were just sleeping together.
But at the back of his mind, he knew that it was more. Feelings were starting to come into the mix. Every time he looked at how the light shined off her hair or stood close enough to her to notice the jarring height difference. That was when he noticed them building unbidden in his chest. He had to wonder if she felt the same or if she was better at avoiding feelings than he was. In any case, he slept with that little robot she’d made at the fair on the side table beside him, which was as a good a sign as any.
He was falling in love with Maeve Marsh.
“You ready to go?” he knocked once on the door to her room and heard her shuffling around. With it this hot already they didn’t want to be at the lake in the heat of the day. It was going to be more of an early trip.
