Book 1 follows the story of Jamie and Katerina, who were close as children in foster care but subsequently lost touch. Twenty-four years later they unknowingly reconnect. He was adopted and is outwardly successful while she has suffered a hard life of neglect and abuse. Upon discovering who they are, they escape to Jamie's parents' garden centre in Wildham where they begin to fall in love, but circumstances are against them - a pregnant ex-girlfriend; the possibility that they are actually blood relations; and a murderous husband.
