He reached up, catching her hands with his. Her eyes flew open, but as he guided her arms around his neck, her baby blues turned dark as night. He didn’t want her to think he didn’t like her dancing, but he needed her in his arms. The music was too fast for a slow dance, which made it perfect for them to find their own rhythm.

“What took you so long?” she asked sassily, her hips still moving erratically.

“I was savoring the view. Nothing good comes from rushing—in business or in pleasure.”

He held her gaze, enjoying the flames simmering in her eyes as he trailed his fingers along her arms from her wrists to her shoulders, where he slipped his fingertips beneath the thin material of her outfit. He was vaguely aware of their friends dancing around them, but he was already too lost in Tegan to pay attention to anyone else. He slid one hand down her torso. Lust pulsed hot and urgent inside him with the feel of her curves. He slipped his arm around her waist, drawing her closer and slowing her down. Her eyes widened just a hair, then narrowed seductively as the song changed to a slower beat.

Appreciative sounds rose around them as couples and friends came together, unleashing their sensual sides. But there were no sounds coming from Jett and Tegan as the music pounded through them. Her soft body conformed to his hard frame, her heart beating rapidly against him. He held her there, one hand pressed to her lower back, his fingers resting on the curve of her ass, guiding her hips to the same grinding, swaying rhythm as his. His other hand moved down her hip, teasing over her bare thigh. The pounding of the music and the lust swimming in her eyes coalesced with the feel of their bodies moving as one, drawing him in even deeper.

TEGAN’S BODY WAS on fire. Jett’s hands were strong and possessive. His hungry gaze drilled into her like he sensed her desires and wanted to satiate every blessed one of them. He threaded one hand into her hair. His scruff scratched her cheek tantalizingly as he pressed his warm lips beside her ear. He tightened his hold on her, crushing her to him, his lips trailing down to her neck. Her knees weakened. Lord help her, her heart was going to explode. She was going to die from sexual tension, she just knew it.

One sexy song bled into the next, their hands moving hungrily over each other’s bodies, sending rivers of lust coursing through her. His hard heat pressed temptingly against her as they danced. In her sky-high boots she was almost tall enough to take the kiss she’d been wanting all evening, but despite her aggressiveness with Jett, she wasn’t usually that forward with men, and she held back. He was seduction personified, making her feel bold and sexy, making her want, need, and crave in ways she never had. She felt safe with him. For the first time since she’d come to the Cape, she wasn’t overthinking the work she had to do or the life she’d left behind. In fact, she was having trouble holding on to any one thought beyond wanting Jett, and that felt amazing—and a little dangerous since he’d consumed her thoughts for the past twenty-four hours. But she couldn’t help wondering, if they didn’t hold back, if they let themselves enjoy one perfect night together, maybe then she’d be able to get him out of her system and she’d have no future distractions to deal with. Well, except maybe the night of the wedding when she’d see him again, but that would give her time in between to focus on work. And if we connect in bed like we have tonight, I might be ready for a repeat by then.

“You’re so fucking sexy,” he said gruffly into her ear.

A thrum of warmth invaded her core. “If you keep saying things like that, the dance floor is going to go up in flames.”

“Is that a complaint or a compliment?”

“Compliment,” she said breathily. The lights flickered and the music hitched, jolting her head from her Jett-induced trance, though her body was still threatening to combust.

“Guess the storm is rolling closer,” Colton said.

Tegan had been so busy trying to stop thinking about Jett earlier in the day, she hadn’t followed the weather forecasts.

Jett stroked his hand down her back, keeping her close as he spoke into her ear. “Did you drive here tonight?”

The desire in his voice made her thoughts stumble. “I…I came with Jana and Cree.”

The lights flickered again, and a few curses sailed up from their friends.

“I am so sick of rain,” Jana said.

“No kidding!” Harper said. “As long as it stops before the wedding, I’ll—”

Thunder boomed, drowning out her words. The lights flickered, and then the room went pitch-black and the music silenced. Jett crushed Tegan against him as gasps, shrieks, and more curses rang out from their friends.

“I’ve got you,” Jett said reassuringly.

Everyone else spoke at once, panicked and frustrated, using their cell phones as flashlights as they rushed off the dance floor and began gathering their things. But Jett was calm, his heart beating steady and strong against Tegan’s shoulder. He placed his hand gently on her cheek, and with the help of the lights from the others’ cell phones, his eyes found hers.

“I’d like nothing more than to take you home,” he said, studying her face. “But I’m leaving tomorrow, and I can’t promise you anything beyond tonight.”

She understood, even if she couldn’t form the words to tell him so.

“I’ll walk you to your door and then leave if you want me to,” he offered. “But I’m not ready for our time together to end.”

“I’m not, either,” she said as more thunder rumbled overhead. The intensity of their chemistry made it difficult to think, but she managed, “My house is in Brewster. It’s a bit of a drive.”

He brushed his thumb over her lips, his eyes boring into hers as he said, “I’d drive to Boston if that’s where you lived.”

Justin appeared beside them with one arm around Steph, the other around Chloe, and said, “You got Tegan?”

“Yeah. Where’s Daphne?” Jett asked, his eyes moving around the dark room. “Does she need a ride?”

Tegan warmed all over knowing he was watching out for her friend.

“Daph’s in the ladies’ room with Violet. We’ve got her,” Rick called from a few feet away, where he was helping Desiree on with her coat.

“The storm wasn’t supposed to get bad until midweek,” Colton said.

Chloe flashed her phone light in Jett’s face and said, “You’d better be good to my girl, Jett Masters. If I hear one bad report, I’ll kick your ass.”

Jett chuckled. “I think you know me better than that.” He looked across the room and said, “Colton, you want us to stick around and help you get things under control here?”

Colton waved and said, “Nah, I’m good. Thanks. Although I have no idea why my emergency lights haven’t come on. Maybe it’s a short in the electrical system.”

“I’ll stick around and check it out,” Brock said. “Listen up, everyone. You never know about these storms. Stock up on water and nonperishables, make sure you have plenty of candles on hand, and we’re around if you need anything.”

“Yes, Dad,” Jana and Harper teased in unison.

Harper and Gavin thanked everyone for coming and doled out hugs. When Harper embraced Tegan, she lowered her voice and said, “Jett’s great, but he really is married to his work. Just keep your expectations in check. Don’t get hurt.”

Once again, Tegan was thankful to have close friends there. “I won’t. I’m going to be married to my work for a while, too. This is just, you know, fun for a night.” She couldn’t believe she was admitting that, much less intending to do it.

“That’s what I said about Gavin, and now we’re getting married.” Harper reached for Gavin’s hand. “Call me once you get the schedules figured out for the theater, and be safe in this weather.”

Tegan promised to call as soon as she had things under control. After they said goodbye to their friends, Jett fetched their coats and they made their way outside. Cold, stinging rain hit her cheeks, but even that did nothing to diminish the heat between them. Wind howled across the power lines, gusting so
forcefully it was hard for Tegan to walk forward. Jett’s arm circled her waist, drawing her against his chest. He put one hand on the back of her head, using the other to shield her face as if he could be her umbrella, as they hurried across the parking lot, and when she stumbled, he held her up.

“I’m such a klutz!” she said as he helped her into the SUV.

“It just gives me a reason to hold you tighter.”

He leaned in, blocking the rain that was pounding on his back from hitting her, and brushed her wet hair from her face. It was an intimate touch, another chivalrous effort. His eyes met hers, and her name slipped roughly from his lips. “Tegan…”

She leaned forward and touched her lips to his, taking that first kiss she so desperately wanted. There was no time to adjust to the hard press of his mouth, no testing of the waters as he took control. He clutched her wet hair, angling her mouth beneath his as he intensified the kiss. His tongue delved deeper, his lips were warm and insistent, and he tasted of alcohol and dirty promises. She couldn’t wait to have those unspoken promises fulfilled. She clutched at his head and shoulders, craving more of him. His hand moved under her coat, caressing her breast. She arched against his hand and he pushed beneath the fabric, rolling her nipple between his finger and thumb. She moaned into their kisses as he climbed farther into the front seat. Cold air whipped around them, but she didn’t care. His kisses roared through her, every swipe of his tongue taking her higher. She was blinded with desire, panting and pawing, utterly lost in him. She’d never been kissed so thoroughly, so possessively. He was relentless, and oh, how she loved it! When he tore his mouth away and sealed it over her neck, “Yes!” flew from her lungs.

He sucked hard, squeezing her nipple, sending flames scorching through her. The pleasure was so intense, she saw stars. She pushed her hands into his hair as he blazed a greedy path down her neck, licking and kissing along her breastbone. He pressed a single kiss to the swell of her breast, and she felt him lifting his head, but she didn’t open her eyes. She could feel his heart beating frantically as she waited for another touch, another kiss. When it didn’t come, her eyes fluttered open.

His gaze was as fierce as it was caring. Her nerves hummed like live wires, whipping and sparking dangerously, and yet somehow she also felt a sense of calmness and safety in his arms.

“Not here,” he whispered as he carefully righted her jumpsuit, covering her breast.

He brought his magnificent lips to hers, kissing her so tenderly she felt like she was in a dream.

  Chapter Five

THE RIDE HOME was a blur of wind, rain, and anticipation. They stumbled through Tegan’s massive front door, kissing and stripping off their drenched coats. Jett backed her up against the door, and it shut with a loud thud that echoed off the high ceilings and hardwood floors.

Her eyes flew open, and she said, “Upstairs.”

They stumbled toward the grand staircase, kissing as they made their way up the steps.

“You live here?” he asked hurriedly.

“Mm-hm,” she said as his lips reclaimed hers in another delicious kiss.

When they reached the second floor, he pinned her against the wall, feasting on her mouth, his big body boxing her in. He took her hands in his, spreading them out to her sides, grinding his hard length against her. Without breaking their kisses, he nudged her legs open with his knee, then even further with his foot, until she was spread-eagle against the wall, his willing captive. Lightning traveled up her core with every grind of his hips. She’d never been with a man who knew how to take control like this. But she wasn’t scared. She was intrigued, and so turned on her chest heaved with anticipation. His mouth moved down her neck, and he dragged his tongue enticingly slowly, just above her choker. His head dipped lower, and he bathed her chest in openmouthed kisses, until every inch of her pulsed with desire. She bowed off the wall, rubbing against him, mewling and panting as his mouth moved lower, tasting the exposed and sensitive skin near her belly button.

He drew back with a wicked glint in his eyes and rose up, lightly brushing his lips over hers. “It’s been a long time for me, and I’ve been hard half the night thinking of all the things I want to do to you, so if I get too rough, tell me. I don’t want to do anything you’re not comfortable with.”

The demand and the care in his voice turned her on. “Okay,” came out as a heated whisper.

His eyes darted down the expansive hallway. “Anyone else live here?”

She shook her head and the visceral hunger in his eyes made her sex clench. He released one of her hands and dragged his fingertips from her wrist to her shoulder. He didn’t say a word as he hooked his finger into the material at her shoulder and pulled it down to her elbow, freeing her breast. His eyes never left hers as he did the same with the other side, leaving her bare from the waist up.

He cupped her face and brushed his thumb over her lower lip, gazing deeply into her eyes as he said, “You can trust me. I’ll never hurt you. I only want to make you feel good.”

She wasn’t worried, but his reassurance comforted her.

His gaze moved lower, and her nipples pebbled and burned under the heat of it. He ran his hands down to where the material bunched at the crook of her arms. His fingers circled her there, holding her against the wall. His head dipped lower, and he traced circles around one nipple until it ached with need. He moved to the other breast, and so began a maddening rhythm as he revved her up one tantalizing lick at a time. When he sealed his mouth over the swell of her breast, electricity radiated out from her core.

Her eyes slammed shut and she panted out, “More.”

He dragged his tongue over her nipple, and she was so ripe, so ready, she couldn’t hold anything back.

  “Oh God. Yes…Again,” she pleaded.

He did it again and again until her thoughts spun. When his mouth came down over one taut peak, rivers of pleasure sliced through her. He sucked harder, wedging his knee against her center, creating mind-numbing sensations. Every rub of his knee brought her closer to the edge. She was trembling, breathing in ragged gasps, chasing an orgasm that was just out of reach.

  “More,” she cried out. “Harder.”

He didn’t miss a beat, giving her exactly what she wanted until she was a bucking, needy mess of desire, spewing greedy sounds she’d never heard before. In the space of a second, his hot hands moved her legs closer together, and he stripped her outfit to the floor. Her thong came off next. She should be nervous, standing naked in the hall in only her boots and choker while he was fully dressed. But there was no room for that when he was taking off his shirt, revealing a broad, gorgeous chest and lean, lickable abs.

“Eyes up here, gorgeous,” he said.

Her eyes flicked up to his, and holy moly, he was looking at her like she was the most beautiful creature he’d ever seen. He moved like a panther on the prowl, running one hand up her thigh as he said, “Shaved bare,” in a guttural voice that sent a shudder of anticipation through her. He made an appreciative sound as his fingers moved across her inner thigh and over her sex. “Exquisite,” he said into her ear, sliding his fingers along her wetness torturously slowly, his thumb pressing on her most sensitive nerves.

She reached out and palmed his cock through his jeans. “I want to play, too.” The huskiness of her own voice surprised her.

He lifted her hand to his mouth and kissed her fingers. “I promise you will have all the time you’d like, sweetheart.”

He laced his hand with hers and covered her mouth with his, kissing her long and so sensually, she would have done anything he asked just to be kissed like that again. She closed her eyes as he lowered himself to his knees and brought his mouth to her center. The first slide of his tongue sent pinpricks up her limbs. The second sent the air rushing from her lungs, and then he was feasting on her. His scruff tickled and scratched. His hands and mouth worked with such mastery her thoughts fragmented. She clawed at his shoulders, rocking her hips. There was no holding ba
ck the animalistic sounds climbing up her throat as he sent her racing toward the clouds. Her hips bucked, her sex pulsed, and just when she started to catch her breath, he became rougher, more possessive, catapulting her into renewed ecstasy. The world careened around her. She clung to his shoulders, trying to steady herself, but she was no match for the erotic haven he’d created, and she surrendered to the glorious sensations.

She lost all sense of time and space. When she finally started to come down from the clouds, he rose to his full height and lifted her into his arms.

“Bedroom?” His voice was gruff, but his eyes were softer, like a beast who had taken the edge off his hunger.

She pointed down the hall and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his mouth to hers. She didn’t care that he tasted of her; she needed him more than she’d ever needed anything. He broke the kiss when they entered her bedroom long enough only to locate the bed, tear the blankets down, and lower them to the mattress. Rain pounded against the windows, but Jett’s mouth was on hers again, exploring and demanding at once, and everything else failed to exist. His kisses were magical and addictive, like finding her favorite candy buried in the world’s best ice cream sundae. Just when she got used to the roughness, he’d slow them down, kissing her tenderly. He made love to her mouth with the same intensity and focus as he’d pleasured her. How could a man she’d only just met make her feel so much?

He lifted her leg at the crook of her knee as they kissed, and then he kissed his way south again, slowing to devour her breasts and to kiss her belly, which tickled. She couldn’t stifle her giggles.

He chuckled and said, “Damn I like you.” Honesty resonated in his eyes as he took off her boots and his shoes.

She reminded herself that this was only one night and not to read too much into whatever he said or did in the heat of the moment. She waved at his jeans and said, “Get those clothes off and show me how much.”

“In a hurry?” He came down over her and pressed his lips to hers. “What if I said I didn’t want to have sex, that I just wanted to spend all night pleasuring you?”
