South Main and Gentry

Mitch rubbed his hands together. “Let’s get the dishes cleaned up. We’ve got coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls for later, but we can fix those about halfway through the show.”

“How weird is it to see yourselves on TV?” Barry asked as he picked up plates from the table.

“The news interviews and commercials aren’t that strange.” I scraped a plate into the disposal before rinsing it and placing it in the dishwasher. “I think watching the show will be a little surreal.”

Travis dug in the cupboards for a lid for the slaw. “Have you guys given any additional thought to that station over in Daneville that wanted to have you guys do regular cooking spots on their morning show?”

I said, “We have. We need to check with Beverly and make sure we wouldn’t be crossing any contractual boundaries.” I set the coffee pot to turn on in thirty-five minutes. “And we need a few more details and a schedule from the station, but I think we’ll do it. It sounds like a great way to advertise to locals who won’t watch the NFN show.” I slid the pan of cinnamon rolls into the cooling oven so they’d be nice and warm and ready for large dollops of icing when the coffee was ready.

“It’s so great to see South Main and Gentry’s Java both thriving. Willow Springs is making a place for itself on the map, and the two of you are going strong.” Travis raised his bottle. “To successful friendships, relationships, and businesses.”

We all clinked bottles and finished our drinks before heading into the living room and settling in on the large sectional couch. I turned on the TV, flipped to the National Food Network, and hit record. Yes, we would watch it with our friends, but I knew Mitch and I would want to watch it again on our own.

Mitch wrapped an arm around me, and I cuddled close as Scrumptious Small Towns appeared on the screen.

My heart soared. Just over a year ago, I’d come to Willow Springs with the intent to start a new business and then head back to the city. Memories of my grandma, the open arms of the town, the peaceful beauty, and perhaps even the magic of the springs were all responsible for making me stay. And now, cuddled up with Mitch and sharing an evening with friends, I knew there was nowhere I’d rather be. My heart, my life, my future was with Mitch and in Willow Springs.

  About the Authors

A.D. Ellis is an Indiana girl, born and raised. She spends much of her time in central Indiana as an instructional coach/teacher in the inner city of Indianapolis, being a mom to two amazing school-aged children, and wondering how she and her husband of almost two decades have managed to not drive each other insane. A lot of her time is also devoted to phone call avoidance and her hatred of cooking.

She loves chocolate, wine with friends, pizza, crocheting and naps along with reading and writing romance. These loves don’t leave much time for housework, much to the chagrin of her husband. Who would pick cleaning the house over a nap or a good book? She uses any extra time to increase her fluency in sarcasm.
