But it should be remembered that if Jael belonged to the Sons of Hamat—Kenites allied to Israel—her father’s enemies would be hers, even after marriage to Heber, unless he were present when they arrived; and that he was conveniently absent, perhaps on purpose, and thus escaped both his allies’ censure and the Israelites’ praise.
