The Fairy Princess Wedding

Page 5

by Jenifer Watts

When we were four, we made a magical pendant

The words Forever Friends, in diamond letters

  And we shared

Both wearing one around our neck

But then we were five, and just like Peter Pan

Princess moved to a far away Fairyland

We vowed to keep all our memories

Locked in our hearts for ever - 'cause they’d said

They’ll be best friends for ever and ever

They will live next door, spend their days together

He was the prince, and she was the princess

Everything was perfect … how could it be lost

Then I sent a fairymail to the Fairy Queen herself

Begging her to help me, and you’ll never, ever guess what …

I’ve been invited to the Royal Wedding

To sing a duet with my best friend of all

I’m going to see my princess, going to see my best friend

Yes this story has a happy ending, ‘cause they’d said

They’ll be best friends for ever and ever

They will live next door, spend their days together

He’ll be the prince and she’ll be the princess

  Happy ever after, best friends!

As he finished singing the tale of himself and the Princess, Prince Cobalt sighed deeply, shook his head slight and from under his cloak pulled out a very, very handsome looking necklace with a pendant that almost … almost looked like it had been cut in half.

Elf moved closer to look at the beautiful piece of jewellery, that was sparkling with flashes of light as the sunlight bounced off the white gold and diamonds. The Prince explained. “My pendant has the words ‘Forever’ written with slivers of diamonds … and Princess Glittermist wears the mirror image pendant – exactly the same except reversed. Hers is gold and has the word “Friends” in a diamond shine.

Put both halves together and that’s what we were supposed to be … Forever Friends.

Wizzy could not control the tears that were streaming down his face as he hiccupped loudly at the romance of the story. He just loved a romantic story with a happy ending! “Prince Cobalt … that’s the most beautiful story I think I’ve ever heard but, but … why are you here?” Wizzy gulped, emotionally.

“Lots of good luck all happening at once!” The Prince almost looked surprised as he spoke. “When I dropped in to see my good friend Elf the Fairy Cake Maker at The Flower Pot Café, an invitation to the Surprise Royal Fairy Wedding flew into my hands, and right after, another fairymail from Princess Glittermist! She told me that she was back in this part of the world for the first time since we were children, and was coming to the wedding too. She’d heard that I was going to be invited to the Royal Fairy Wedding too and asked if we could sing a duet … together! There are some fairies who live nearby … Harmony and Rhapsody they’re called, and they’re going to help us to choose a song and rehearse! Do you know these fairies? Are they nearby?

Elf loved the story and bounced up to his feet. “Do we know them? Harmony and Rhapsody are our best friends! I’m sure they’re nearby – let’s call them with the special fairy call!” he called to all of the friends gathered around the Prince.

The café echoed with voices that all called together in a sing song voice: “fairy one, fairy two, fairy three ... Harmony! Rhapsody!”

  CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Back in their Snuggery, the fairies were just reaching for their wands when they heard a faint noise … “Harmony, Rhapsody”.

Rhapsody listened with her head on one side. “Is that someone calling us, Harmony?”

“I’m not sure if it was a fairy call or birds in the top of the garden. Let’s listen again,” her best fairy friend answered. And soon after, a little bit louder this time, they definitely heard the sounds of voices calling from a long, long way away. “Fairy one, fairy two, fairy three ... Harmony! Rhapsody!”

“We definitely heard it that time!” the fairies said together. “To the Flower Pot Cafe!” they giggled, and with a wave of their wands and a burst of sparkling stars, the fairies disappeared from the Snuggery, just a splattering of falling stars and fairy dust showing where they had been standing.

The Fairy dust must have been flowing freely, because there was another burst of stars, then the fairies appeared in the Flower Pot to the chorus of “hellos” from all of their friends, and a bright and cheery “Morning fairies!” from Elf the Fairy Cake Maker.

Wizzy was still sniffing back a few tears, a bit overcome at the emotion of the Prince’s story, but still managed a happy “Wizz bang wonderful morning fairies!”

“Fairy hello” the fairies called together. “Someone called?”

“Fairies, Prince Cobalt is singing a duet with …”

But Elf didn’t even finish his sentence before Harmony answered excitedly, “Princess Glittermist! We know! The Princess is going to be here at eleven thirty this morning so we can teach them both the duet. Is the Prince here yet?”

The Prince leapt to his feet and bowed deeply but quickly. Eleven thirty was very close, and he was so excited he almost tripped over his words as they rushed out of his mouth! “Harmony, Rhapsody … delighted to meet you! Can’t wait for the rehearsal - Love to get to know you later but now the time is close – eleven thirty is nearly upon us! I need flowers and chocolates – seeing my best friend is such a celebration. Must go! I’ll be back!” he exclaimed, twirled his cape and like a whirlwind, disappeared from the café.

Wizzy wanted to help, and to be honest, still wanted to be with his new best friend, Prince Cobalt, and he quickly skipped after him, calling over his shoulder as he left, “And I should leave to help my new best friend … the Prince! Wait! Er, Prince, Mr Prince, wait for me! It’s me, Wizzy the Wizard! Wait for me!”

Rhapsody giggled at Wizzy and The Prince. “They’re a bit excited!” Then quite loud in the birdsong of Fairyland, everyone heard a little rumble. It was Rhapsody’s tummy!

“While we’re waiting Elf, my tummy is grumbling - my fairy eyes can see yummy food and they’re sending a message to my hungry tummy that food is close by!”

Elf clapped his hands at the table and as if by magic, well, actually, really by magic, Prince Cobalt’s plates were cleared. Another clap of his hands and in their place were two settings of Strawberry Pancakes, Fruity Smoothies and Fairy Wing Fluffies.

While Rhapsody ate and giggled with her friends, Harmony was thinking hard like the clever fairy she was, and as she delicately picked up a pancake and took a tiny bite she whispered to herself. “Hmmm … Elf Prince Cobalt and Fairy Princess Glittermist … do you think they could be the Prince and Princess in the Surprise Royal Fairy Wedding? They sound like a perfect bride and groom … I wonder?”

Neither Harmony nor Rhapsody saw the Little Gnome as he strutted back into the Flower Pot Café, his legs pounding on the grassy paths. “I’ve heard the weather’s going to be a bit rough at the top of the garden today!” he muttered to nobody in particular. He gave a sly chuckle with a bit of a nasty pasty look crossing across his face for a moment, which, if the fairies had seen, might have caused them to be a bit worried!

“I wonder who’s bringing the wind with them?” continued the Little Gnome quietly under his breath. “They’ve all been invited to perform, but what about me? At least the amazzzinng Bee will find it hard to collect sweet nectar today!”

And with his eyes darting this way and that, making very sure he was not being watched, the Gnome hip hopped out of the Flower Pot Café, through Fairyland, and then towards the Magical Mystery Tree.

  CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Carefully the Gnome opened the door of the Magical Mystery tree just a bit, and poked his head out to see if nobody was coming, then crept slowly, step by step, into the Top of the Garden. He looked a bit nervous, then suddenly he saw Barnaby and the Bee Boyz coming his way, and he darted, he jumped and he hip hopped fast, until he was well hidden behind some large human pot plants.

Barnaby had taught the Bee Boyz a very, very funny dance to the Flip Flap Flop Song and in his pot plant hiding place, the Gnome couldn’t help himself and joined in hip hopping happily before suddenly he remembered what he was supposed to be doing, and took the smile off his face.

When Barnaby and the Bee Boyz finished their dance, they flew towards Granny Love’s cottagey garden full of daisies and lavender and rosemary – just perfect for collecting more sweet nectar. The Gnome looked this way and that, making quite sure he was alone, before he took a small and very well-read, tatty book from his back pocket. In quite faint letters, looking very old, the book had the words “Gnome Spells” on the front that sparkled dully as if they were really trying to be bright and twinkly, but couldn’t quite bring themselves to be fully bright. And flipping through a few pages, he found the spell with the words “To Make Stormy Days”.

The gnome spell was detailed and little Gnome had to do some quite elaborate hand movements as he muttered under his breath, his hands looking just a bit like swirling clouds and gusty winds. It didn’t take long before the sky darkened as the clouds covered the sun, and the leaves on the trees started to be blown about by the whistling wind.

Right at the same time as the little gnome was creating not-very-nice magic, Bubbles the Beach Fairy was flying through the air in her very cute and magical flying boat called The Bubble. It was a beautiful sky with puffy white clouds whispering past her as she floated gently towards Fairyland, and Bubbles giggled happily at the pretty view beneath her. Then suddenly the Gnome’s spell took hold, and her boat started to shake a little bit, and then it started shaking a lot! She grabbed the sides of the boat with both hands, looking scared, as her hair was blown all around her face, the boat wobbling dangerously as it jiggled through the darkening clouds.

Bubbles kept holding on fairy tight until she landed her boat near the Flower Pot Café, and taking a deep breath, she realised that she was very glad to be on solid land again. Harmony and Rhapsody skipped over to their friend, and helped her out of the boat. “Welcome. Fairy Bubbles” they said together.

“Hi Harmony, Rhapsody” Bubbles answered her friends. “Whew, that was a rough ride … there’s a lot of wind in the sky today!”

Harmony and Rhapsody looked confused – they’d been in the top of the garden earlier and it was a beautiful day, but they did know how fast weather could change in the human world. However the friends were all so pleased to see each other, they quickly forget about the bad weather, and started talking about which song Bubbles and her beach friends could perform at the surprise royal wedding.

“I just can’t think how we can do it, fairies,” said Bubbles. “After all, Aquarius and Coralight are fairy mermaids! They have tails and they live in the ocean! They can’t come out on land to dance!”

But Harmony, the clever fairy, always seemed to have good ideas right when they were needed. “Bubbles, the wedding’s taking place in a beautiful little chapel in the top of the garden, and right near the entrance to the chapel is a big fountain with lots and lots of water. If we magiced them straight into the fountain, the fairy mermaids would feel right at home singing in the water, and you could sing a welcome to all of the guests as they arrive for the wedding.”

Rhapsody loved her best friend’s ideas and grabbed her hands, spinning her around and around as she twirled her through the mushrooms. “Harmony that will be the perfect way to start the wedding celebrations!”

“Harmony, what a magical idea” squealed Bubbles in delight and she joined hands with the circle of friends and spun around with them. “Oooh, I can’t wait – we get to perform and the fairy mermaids don’t have to leave the water! You’re so clever fairies!”

As Bubbles jumped up and down on her tippie toes in excitement, Rhapsody picked up her wand that was resting on a nearby mushroom and with eyes closed, she whispered a little spell, waved the wand and in a burst of stars, a beautiful book appeared in her hands. The book was very, very old, but the pretty flowers and notes embroidered on the front were still twinkling and full of colour and life. It was called the Magical Music Book and was full of the words and music to so many songs, and with another tiny twirl of her wand, a page in the book shook itself free from the old binding and floated up into Bubbles’ hands, The beach fairy held it tight as she magiced herself into her little boat, which immediately rose up, hovered, then flew back up through the clouds towards Fairy Beach, Bubbles waving goodbye to her friends on the ground.

  CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Suddenly the peace of Fairyland was shattered as Barnaby raced towards them. He was wind-blown – his Elvis inspired hair standing straight up on end, and he was huffing and puffing like he’d run a very long race.

“Fairies! Big problem! A whole lot of shakin’ going on!” trying to make The Fairies understand as he blurted the words out with the little breath he had left, Barnaby’s arms were trying to talk as well as they flapped everywhere “Huge storm in top of garden. Blown to bizzy buzzy bits. Fairy caught in it!”

As Barnaby started wheezing in big, buzzing breaths, Harmony and Rhapsody held him upright. “Calm down, Barnaby” said Harmony gently, her soft voice immediately making Barnaby feel just a little bit better.

“Deep breaths, in, out, in, out ...” Rhapsody helped him too, and he took three big, deep breaths and started talking again.

“I was collecting sweet nectar in the top of the garden with the Bee Boyz, when a huge wind blew up out of nowhere. It almost seemed like magic,” Barnaby stopped, shaking his head. “But not good fairy magic like yours, fairies! We were blown this way and that way.”

As Barnaby explained the motion of the wind, he had all of the guests at the Flower Pot listening intently, and as he swayed, his whole body telling the story of the wind, all those in the café swayed with him in one big windy motion.

“We all just managed to hang on to each other, but then we saw a little fairy get blown past us.”

Suddenly the Little Gnome bobbed up from behind a mushroom, obviously listening in on this conversation. The expression on his face was a bit confused … not quite as happy as it had been earlier, almost with an “oh oh” expression on it as he glanced furtively around. What little fairy?

“Oh no!” exclaimed Rhapsody. “Which fairy? Is she alright?”

But Barnaby was shaking his head. “I’ve never met her before, Rhapsody. And anyway, it was really hard to recognize her. Her hair was everywhere; her dress was torn into rags by the rosebush thorns. When the wind first blew her past us, she was being twirled and whirled, round and round and round, and when we managed to catch on to her hands and fly her out of the eye of the storm, she fainted!”

Harmony gasped. “That’s terrible Barnaby! Where is she now?

As Barnaby let out one last, big, wheezy gasp, he plonked himself down at a table. “The Prince …” he puffed. “The Prince has her …” and right at that moment, Prince Cobalt strode into the Flower Pot Café, effortlessly carrying the little fairy, his cloak flowing behind quite regally. He put the fairy down gently on a lounge suite in the Flower Pot Café, and after a few flutters of her eyelashes she woke up, as if from a very deep sleep.

Barnaby was right. The little fairy was very dishevelled. Her dress was in rags and her hair was a mass of tangles.

“Hello? Where am I?” she said in a puzzled voice, but the prettiest little voice you have ever heard on a fairy. “Who are you? Who am I?” she added, obviously confused.

As everyone gathered around to help the little fairy, Harmony touched the Prince’s arm. “You’re a hero, Prince Cobalt. Thank you for rescuing Fairy …” but Harmony didn’t know her name.

Rhapsody shook her head – she didn’t know either. Er, Fairy …”

And Prince Cobalt couldn’t help either “Fairy …”

Harmony spoke gently. “Little fairy, what’s your name?”

The little fairy tried to say a name ... in fact she started to say a few names, but with a look of p
uzzlement on her face, she shook her head sadly. “I can’t remember my name!”

Never one to be lost for words, Barnaby jumped in with a few suggestions.

“Er … Windy Fairy? Crazy Hair Fairy? Messy Fairy?”

At the slightly cross look that Harmony and Rhapsody gave him, Barnaby shrugged and said “Well how about Fairy Breeze! Perfect name for a wind-blown fairy!”

Just then, Elf came out of the kitchen for the first time since all of the commotion. He saw Barnaby with his wind-swept hair and gave a pretend scream as he laughed. “AAAGHHH Barnaby … that is a seriously bad hair day!” But then he saw the little fairy and his face looked concerned.

“And who’s this? Oh my elfie goodness!” he exclaimed in a very worried sound of voice. “What’s happened? Who is this?” he said looking at all of his friends, then he went up to the little fairy and took her hand. “Who are you?” he asked her, but of course, the little fairy didn’t know.

Barnaby explained again. “We were in the top of the garden and a huge, nasty wind came up, and we found this little fairy being thrown around.”

At this, the Gnome popped his head up again and listened to what Barnaby was saying. “Oh oh”, he muttered to himself. “That wind was supposed to blow the Bee Boyz off course … not a fairy!” He kept listening as Rhapsody took up the story.

“The little fairy fainted, and Prince Cobalt rescued her and brought her here. She’s lost her wand and she can’t remember her name, so we’re calling her Fairy Breeze.”

“She needs one of your Fruity Slushies, Elf!” said Harmony.

“Coming right up!” Elf replied, and he quickly tapped his elfpad with the order, and just a few seconds later, Minuet danced out of the kitchen with a very fruity-looking slushy.

As the little fairy sat on a toadstool and delicately sipped on the refreshing drink, a distinctive noise filled the air. Fairy Breeze looked up to see everyone running and hiding … everyone except for her rescuer, Prince Cobalt.
