The Fairy Princess Wedding

“It’s Wizzy the Wizard!” yelled out Barnaby, his hands on top of his wind-swept hair in distress, and in answer to his call, there was a crash and a bang and a huge puff of purple smoke with stars. Wizzy had crash-landed into the café!

“Oh Wizzaling Weeblies … I do need to practise my landings!” said Wizzy, shaking himself off and standing up, then doing a quick whoosh of his cloak to make sure everything was in order.

Suddenly he spied Fairy Breeze. “Whopping Widingeons … what have we here! A messy fairy?” he said as he drew next to the little fairy.

But although Barnaby had been quite happy to suggest similar names for the little fairy a minute ago, now he stuck up for his new friend. “She’s not messy – she’s a lost fairy that got caught in a storm Wizzy!” Barnaby squatted down in front of her, trying to coax her memory into returning. “Fairy Breeze … can’t you remember who are you? Where you’re from?”

But it was no good, Fairy Breeze simply couldn’t remember, and despite Wizzy and Barnaby both trying to prompt her memory, she kept shaking her head sadly.

“Whoa Barnaby … Wizzy – enough of the questions!” said Harmony a few moments later. “Fairy Breeze needs some space and some time.”

Turning to Fairy Breeze, she spoke gently. “Why don’t you walk around Fairyland and see if you recognise anything - your memory might come back then!”

“We’ll walk with you Fairy Breeze. Perhaps we can help you find your wand.” Wizzy and Barnaby chimed in together.

Fairy Breeze smiled at her new yellow and gold striped friend, and her new purple friend with the swooshing cloak and the big tall hat. “You’re being so kind but what do you mean my wand … do I have a wand?”

Rhapsody thought for a moment. “Well you have wings – and you’re not a bird, and you don’t look like a butterfly, so I think you must be a fairy, and all fairies have wands!” she declared.

“You’re right!” Fairy Breeze understood Rhapsody’s logic. “And if I can find my wand, I’m sure that my memory will come back to me.”

Oh dear – the Little Gnome’s pointy ears had pricked up even more as he heard all about the missing wand. “Wand? Wand? If I find that fairy’s wand, I’ll have the most amazing powers of any gnome, anywhere in Fairyland! I’ll be King Little Gnome! I’m going to find it before anyone else does! They’ll want to watch me perform then!”

And pulling Barnaby’s Kazoo out of his pocked, he puffed up his cheeks and put a huge blow of air into it, ready for a loud and regal noise, but again, he only managed to make a funny little farting noise, before he dashed out of the Café towards the Top of the Garden.

  CHAPTER SIXTEEN

When The Fairies returned to the Flower Pot Café a short time later, Prince Cobalt, Barnaby and Wizzy were still sitting together and looked up eagerly, hoping Fairy Breeze’s mystery was solved, but Rhapsody shook her head sadly.

“Poor little Fairy Breeze. She wanted to sit by the pond and think. To try and remember who she is and where she’s from.

“We’ll check up on her a bit later. I’m sure she’ll be okay,” added Harmony, before getting down to the business of the day.

“Right – work to do! Who’s next, Rhapsody?”

“The Snow Pixies,” answered Rhapsody after consulting her diary. “I think they’re coming now but oh, my fairy goodness, it sounds more like a herd of unicorns than snow pixies!”

The clumping noise was loud amongst the twittering of the tiny fairyland birds, and before long, three snow pixies came into sight, the strange noise made by their ice skates clumping on the uneven ground of the Fairy Pot Café.

Harmony and Rhapsody rushed to help, and the Pixies collapsed gratefully into chairs as they smiled at the fairies. “Fairy hello Harmony, Rhapsody! Whew, that wasn’t easy! We’re used to skating on ice, not walking on grass!”

“Fairy hello Snowflake, Raini Mist and Ice Crystal,” Harmony and Rhapsody welcomed them in unison.

After the fairies had introduced them around the Café, Snowflake continued: “We’d love to perform at The Surprise Royal Fairy Wedding fairies, but all of our dances are performed on ice, with ice skates. It’s the only way we know how to dance!”

As all of the café customers crowded around the Snow Pixies, checking out their ice skates and their pretty skating costumes, Harmony and Rhapsody spoke quietly together.

“It’s not easy organising everyone, is it Harmony! First of all Mermaids with tails that need to be in water, now ice skaters! Any fairy good ideas on how the Snow Pixies can perform?”

Harmony had her thinking face on as she paced amongst the mushrooms, Rhapsody keeping up just a few steps behind her, willing her to have a great idea. Suddenly Harmony stopped. “I’ve got one idea Rhapsody. Can you remember how big the pond is next to Honeysuckle Chapel?”

Thinking hard, Rhapsody answered, pointing to where she was at that moment “Hmmm … about from here” then she dashed to her left “to about here!”

“So fairy size, it would be the perfect size to skate on!” Harmony smiled, then skipped back to the Snow Pixies.

“Problem fairy fixed, Snow Pixies!” she told them happily. “All we need is a special magic spell to turn the Chapel pond into ice!” Harmony waved her wand, and in her hands appeared the Magic Fairy Spell Book, before she turned back to the Pixies.

“Come on, hold our hands and we’ll take a quick trip to the top of the garden and see if the spell works!”

Harmony and Rhapsody held the pixies hands and with the Magic Spell Book tucked tightly under her arm, Harmony twirled her wand. In a burst of stars and fairy dust, they all disappeared from Fairyland.

There was no one near the Chapel when Harmony, Rhapsody and the Snow Pixies appeared, fairy size, behind a clump of primroses. Harmony opened the magic spell book and chanted softly as she twirled her wand towards the pond.

I wish, I wish with all my heart

I wish upon a falling star

I wish that you would give this spell

The magic to work fairy well

  Special magic fairy wand

Please can you freeze this pretty pond!

Suddenly, there was a tinge of mist over the pond, and a little bird flying down for a drink was confused as he leant his beak to the water and instead, tapped on hard ice!

“Wheeee” chorused the Snow Pixies together, and they danced onto the frozen pond and started twirling, so graceful and beautifully as they skated around the ice, very closely watched by a flutter of butterflies who were balanced on a flower bush nearby, and also closely watched by a grumpy looking Little Gnome!

“Fairies you are amazing,” said Snowflake. “This will be just perfect! We can create the most stunning dance for the Surprise Royal Fairy Wedding! We need to go back to our ice castle and practise! Thanks again Fairies – we’ll see you soon!

Harmony and Rhapsody waved goodbye to the Snow Pixies, then magiced back to Fairyland, where they could hear a rabble of arguing Caterpillars and Butterflies even before they arrived. “Oh dear”, Harmony commented quietly to her friend. “Next challenge!”

“Dat song was so pretty, so lovely, so delicate … we can all do zat for our Royal Performance!” said Bellisimo Butterfly, jumping up and down on her three pairs of delicate little feet.

“But Bellisimo,” said Slinky Caterpillar. “We don’t want to sing a dainty little butterfly song at A Royal Fairy Wedding!”

“And we don’t want to sing a Megaleggy Rap song!” replied the unhappy butterfly.

The butterflies and caterpillars were getting louder and louder, their many legs all pointing at each other, as they disagreed about what kind of song they should sing at the surprise Royal Fairy Wedding. Just as the argument was starting to get really quite horrid, Elf bounded in through the mushroom ring, The Fairies close behind him.

“Butterflies, Caterpillars, stop!” Elf cried out. “I know the perfect song for you to sing that’ll keep you all happy ... it’s called the Butterpillar Ca
tterfly Megaleggy Rap. Watch me!” and Elf sang and danced the song with a little bit of rapping for the caterpillars and a little bit of beauty for the butterflies .

  Butterfly, you flitter flutter

Butterfly, chasing sunbeams through the air

  Soaring floating everywhere

  Butterfly, wings are dancing

  Butterfly, dainty tiptoes

Through the sky - As you twirl and glide

Caterpillars crawling, chomping through the green leaves

Never stopping eating, growing big and happy

Need to grow so fast, so we’re strong as can be

Chomping, chomping, breakfast, lunch and tea

  Butterfly, so soft and graceful

  Butterfly, let me dance

In your garden - Let me be your friend

  Butterfly, wings like rainbows

  Butterfly, catching sunbeams

Blow a kiss, come and fly with me

Chubby little bodies, Fuzzy coats around us

  Lots of legs, strong muscles

  Help us move right

  Finding yummy food

  With our clever antenna

  Till we spin a jacket

  And curl up sound asleep

Butterfly … come fly with me (started as a caterpillar)

Butterfly ... the world will see (grew so fast by chomping)

Butterfly … my arms are wings (spun a chrysalis around us)

Butterfly … come fly with me (slept until our wings grew)

Butterfly ... the world will see (turned into a pretty butterfly)

Butterfly … my arms are wings - Butterfly

“That was so dainty in the butterfly bits” said Bellisimo!

“And so funky in the caterpillar parts,” added Maribella.

Now all happy, together the butterflies and caterpillars rapped and danced out of Fairyland as Elf and The Fairies looked at each other, then collapsed in a pile of giggles.

“They were so funny!” said Rhapsody. “If they can stop arguing long enough to rehearse it, it’ll be fan-fairy-tastic in the Surprise Royal Fairy Wedding! Thanks for your help Elf!”

Harmony nodded as Rhapsody continued. “Gosh Harmony, there’s lots to think about when you’re organising a wedding, isn’t there.”

“Sure is! That’s Bubbles and the Fairy Mermaids sorted … a frozen pond for the Snow Pixies and rap and beauty mixed together for our somewhat colourful friends.

“And now it’s time for me to do some organising,” said Elf, jumping up. “Well, some designing anyway! I need to create the most magnificent, most fan-elfie-tasic wedding cake ever seen in any Fairyland. See you soon!” he finished, as he cartwheeled out of Fairyland.

  CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

Rhapsody looked up, remembering the time. “Harmony, I think we’re late! We were supposed to meet Fairy Princess Glittermist at the Café so that we could teach her and Prince Cobalt the duet!”

Rhapsody’s eyes misted as she smiled whimsically. “Oooh I can’t wait to meet Fairy Princess Glittermist – I’m sure she’s so beautiful and so ... princessey!”

Harmony smiled as she thought to herself. “Hmmm. I just wonder if she might be the beautiful bride?” she turned to Rhapsody. “You’re right, we’d better get back to the Flower Pot Café!”

But just a few moments later when they arrived at the meeting place, Prince Coblat jumped up and greeted them in excitement. “Is she with you fairies? Is Princess Glittermist here?” he asked, his eyes shining bright.

Clearly Princess Glittermist had not yet arrived. “I’ll try calling her on the fairy phone!” said Harmony, and held out her hands for the magic phone, which appeared in a pretty little burst of stars and fairy dust. Harmony dialled and put the phone to her ear, but all she heard was the Princesses’ voicemail.

“Thank you for your call! Please leave a message and remember … keep smiling!”

The phone disappeared from her hand as Harmony pondered. “Strange. It’s gone to her voicemail.”

“Perhaps because we were late, Harmony. She might have been and gone!”

The Prince sat back down, looking quite dejected. He plonked the bunch of flowers on the table and spoke softly. “That was Glittermist’s favourite saying when we were young. ‘Keep smiling’. She had such a beautiful smile when she was happy … and she was happy nearly all the time!”

“Don’t worry Prince Cobalt, when Princess Glittermist gets in touch with us, we’ll let you know, but in the meantime you can start to learn your part of the duet,” suggested Harmony.

Rhapsody waved her wand over the Magical Music Book, and the beautifully scribed sheet of musical notes flew out of the pages and towards Prince Cobalt. He looked at the title ‘Forever Friends’ and as he nodded his thanks to Harmony and Rhapsody, he gave a little laugh to himself as he wandered over to a table in the café where Barnaby and Wizzy were sipping on Fruity Slushies.

“Forever Friends … great choice of song! I wonder if the fairies heard my story about me and Princess Glittermist?” Barnaby and Wizzy looked up as The Prince sat down, looking a bit confused as he talked sadly to himself, touching the necklace at his throat, and shaking his head.

“They couldn’t have heard, they weren’t even in Fairyland. It’s just a coincidence. Oh I do hope Glittermist turns up!”

Watching him join Barnaby and Wizzy, Rhapsody turned to her best fairy friend. “Prince Cobalt doesn’t look happy! But Harmony, I can’t stop thinking about poor Fairy Breeze – she looked so sad too! Can’t we help her? We could take a quick fly through the top of the garden and see if we can find her wand?”

“That nasty wind might still be blowing, and you know that Fairies and wind aren’t good together!” Harmony answered her friend, giving a little shake of her head.

But Rhapsody was insistent. “Plllleeeeeaaaasssseee Harmony!” and her friend relented.

“Just a quick fly then Rhapsody … but if the weather is bad, we’ll have to come straight back,” and as Rhapsody agreed, the fairies twirled their wands and left the café.

Still sitting in the café with Prince Cobalt and Wizzy, Barnaby was very keen to help the Prince learn his song. “Prince Cobalt, I could be your duet partner! We’d make a sen-buzzy-sational team! I can see it now ... Barnaby and the Prince.”

But not to be outdone was Wizzy the Wizard, who also desperately wanted to sing with the Prince. “Or I could be your duet partner too ... the awesome Wizard and the Prince.”

“The very cool and talented Bee and the Prince!”

“The amazingly talented and stupendously fabulous Wizard and … Cobalt.”

Barnaby and Wizzy were starting to get just a little bit too competitive, so Prince Cobalt stood up between the friends, thanking them but shaking his head at the same time. “Barnaby, Wizzy! You would both make such awesome duet partners, but Princess Glittermist was so very special to me when I was young – I really want to sing the duet with her.”

Wizzy realised that Barnaby hadn’t heard the story of the Prince and Princess yet, so quickly filled him in, whispering quickly in a very loud whisper. “Princess Glittermist was Prince Cobalt’s best friend when they were little. Just like you and me are best friends!”

Prince Cobalt, overhearing Wizzy’s explanation, nodded to his new friends. “I really want to sing the duet with the Princess … if she turns up, that is!”

At those words, and excited look suddenly appeared on Wizzy’s face, and he jumped up high, pulling his wand from under his purple, starry cloak. “Prince Cobalt, I know! A magic wizardly spell might help to bring the princess to Fairyland!” And despite Barnaby’s gasp and anxious pleadings not to make magic, Wizzy waved his wand and chanted.

Magic wizardly wand this prince is sad

Please find our princess and make him glad!

And in a burst of purple smoke and wizard stars, there appears a Princess in Fairyland … but it’s not quite what Prince Cobalt was expecting. Barnaby had been transformed into a Pri
ncess! With a blonde wig perched on top of his bee head, a crown teetering dangerously on top of that, and a pink cape around his shoulders he made the perfect … no, actually, he made the funniest looking Princess ever! Prince Cobalt tried hard not to laugh out loud as Elf came out of the kitchen and started giggling, and Wizzy just looked totally aghast! Barnaby, thankfully, didn’t have a mirror nearby!

“Oh wizzaling weeblies! Dear oh dear! I’ll try again ...” but Barnaby jumped up and grabbed his wand.

“No Wizzy! Stop! Please … no more magic spells today! Come on, let’s go and find that lost fairy’s wand.” And the friends skipped out of Fairyland, Barnaby looking hilarious with his long blonde wig and crown.

In the distance, Fairy Breeze wandered through Fairyland, slowly and sadly, as she tried to remember just who she really was.

  CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

The door to the Magical Mystery Tree in the Top of the Garden was suddenly wrenched open by the wind, and Harmony and Rhapsody flew through, discovering very quickly that the nasty wind was still in full force. The Fairies were blown this way and that, their pretty dresses flapping in all directions, their curls a riot as they twirled around their heads. In desperation, they grabbed on to a flower stem as they flew by the bush. Harmony almost had to yell to make herself heard above the roar of the wind. “I think we’d better come back again when the wind has died down Rhapsody!”

Rhapsody agreed instantly, looking just a little bit scared. “I hope we can make it back to Fairyland, Harmony! On the count of fairy three …” and together, they worked as a team, counting “fairy one, fairy two, fairy three” before they let go of the flower, took hold of each other’s hands and still being buffeted by the wind, slowly flew back towards the Fairyland entrance door.

The door flung open as they neared it and Barnaby and Wizzy were flung past The Fairies, Barnaby’s blonde wig and tiara, and Wizzy’s starry, purple cape flapping ferociously in the wind.

Harmony and Rhapsody weren’t quite sure what they had just seen being blown past them, but shutting the Magical Mystery Tree door behind them, they were soon back into the quiet, calm and windless Fairyland. But their worry about the wind quickly changed into smiles, then unstoppable giggles as they looked at each other, very, very wind-blown!
