The Fairy Princess Wedding

“I can’t possibly go home until I find it or the Tooth Fairy won’t come!” she finished, trying to be brave and keep the tears from spilling onto her cheeks.
Granny Love looked at her watch, and then gave her favourite granddaughter a huge, Granny hug. We’ll find that tooth! Quick – let’s have a hunt now before it gets too dark! Ethan! Ethan!” and as Ethan came running, Granny Love explained that they all needed to search for Sophia’s lost tooth.
Sophia’s tears dried up instantly as they started to search carefully near the swing, and it wasn’t long before Ethan spotted something sparkling. “Here! Over here!” he called out, but as Sophia dropped to her knees to pick up her tooth she realised it was something even more exciting that was sparkling in the lawn. It was a tiny pendant necklace, twirled around a glittering princess tiara.
“Granny Love – look what we’ve found” she called out, very breathless.
“That is very magical - it must have been lost by a fairy,” Granny Love joined in her excitement.
“And not just any fairy Granny Love, this is a tiara! It’s been lost by a Fairy PRINCESS!
Ethan was finding this hard to understand. He absolutely did not believe in fairies, but this tiny necklace and and tiara looked very real – even to him. Granny Love knew what they had to do.
“It looks very, very precious. Come on Sophia, Ethan – we need to give it back to the fairies. We need to leave it in the fairy ring.”
Ethan stopped short. Could he …should he really believe in fairies? “The fairy ring? Do you mean that’s a REAL fairy ring?” He really did not understand! “But whose fairy ring is it? If we leave the tea … tar … tor … the little hat thingy in it, who’ll get it?”
Sophie rolled her eyes. It’s called a tiara, Ethan, and we don’t know their names. You know, they’re the fairies I’m always talking about! They’ll find it when they come to dance around the fairy ring. It’s one of their favourite things to do, you know.
“Rhapsody is her name,” Granny love said quietly. “Rhapsody.”
“But that’s your own special fairy, Granny Love! She’s the one you tell stories about. Does she still live nearby?”
“It’s her fairy ring,” Granny explained. I made it for her to dance around when I was just a little girl, and she loved it so much, she cast a magic spell on it. For as long as I live in the garden, so will the fairy ring.”
“But what if you moved house?” asked Sophie.
“She would find me,” Granny Love smiled, and her smile grew even wider as Ethan finally became a true believer.
“Awesome!” were his defining words!
Walking to the fairy ring, the three swept away the leaves covering it, and as the sun finally kissed goodbye to the Top of the Garden and waved hello to the stars that were starting to twinkle in the sky, the magical stones and flowers in the ring burned brightly. Clearing a space, they carefully left the tiara and pendant where the fairies could find it, then skipped back up towards the house.
What they didn’t see as they left the fairy ring away was the Little Gnome, who dashed out from behind a tree and hip hopped over to the shining stones and flowers, glanced furtively around to make sure he was alone, then picked up the tiara and pendant and hid them in his sack before running off, as fast as his little gnome legs would carry him.
CHAPTER TWENTY THREE
Harmony and Rhapsody were seated at their dressing table in the Snuggery putting the last sparkly touches to their fairy make up. They had a lot more sparkles than normal – sparkles on their hair and skin, sparkles on their shiny lip gloss, and they were wearing very beautiful fairy dresses that almost seemed the same as their normal fairy dresses, but somehow sparkled and twinkled even more than usual!
The Fairies stood up and looked at each other before declaring how perfect each other looked. “I hope everything goes smoothly,” said Rhapsody. “All of the dance rehearsals, all of the work everyone’s put in – I can’t believe it’s finally happening today!”
Harmony smiled. “And I’m sure there are fairies and elves and bee boyz … not to mention the fairy tot flower girls and elf tot pageboys – who can’t believe it’s today either! Are you ready Rhapsody? Shall we go?”
One final look in the mirror and Rhapsody took a deep, excited breath and nodded at her fairy friend.
“Ready, Harmony!” she said, and hand in hand, the fairies twirled their wands in front of them and in a burst of stars, disappeared from the snuggery.
Barnaby was outside his hive, checking out his reflection in the hive window. He had added a very special touch added to his bee costume – a beautiful bow tie, and he gave it a final tweak before dancing out of the picture, happy with what he saw.
Elf looked so handsome, having replaced his green jacket with one that shimmered and sparkled like a true showman’s. As he straightened out his bow tie Minuet pirouetted into Fairyland in a brand new sparkly tutu.
“Fairy hello, Elf! It’s going to be such a big day of celebration and dancing! I’ve warmed up my fairy muscles, my pointe shoes have magical sparkles that are going to shine all day and all night, and my tutu is just right! Princess Perfect!
As she finished speaking, The Fairies appeared in a burst of stars, then Barnaby danced in looking very dashing as he clicked the heels of his furry yellow boots together.
“Fairy hello everyone!” Rhapsody jumped up and down in excitement. “Oooh it’s so exciting! What a magical day!”
Harmony smiled at her friends too. “Fairy hello … doesn’t everyone look fan-fairy-tastic!”
Cutting into her excitement, the fairy phone rang and Elf held out his hand where it appeared, glowing with stars. “Hello, The Flower Pot, Elf the Fairy Cake Maker speaking.” He answered.
“Hi Wizzy! You’re coming now? You want us to move out of the way? Consider it done!” Elf hung up then turned to everyone.
“Wizzy wants to warn us to stay out of the way of his landing.” Barnaby, Elf and Minuet looked at each other calmly, then scattered to all corners of the café.
Harmony and Rhapsody, however, had faith in their Wizardly friend, and calmly waited as the music announcing is arrival became louder and louder, until finally he landed – beautifully and gracefully!
For a moment, habit overtook him, and he started to grumble out the words “Wizzling Weeblies I do need to practise ...” before suddenly realising that he had landed beautifully.
“Oh whopping widingeons ... looks like I’ve done enough practising! Yippeee!!!” he cried out, his day already beginning so well.
Barnaby was delighted for his friend, and stood up straight. “On that note everyone, come on, it’s time to party!” and as they all skipped out of the Flower Pot Café, Elf deliberately turned the “OPEN” sign to “CLOSED”.
The friends were giggling and dancing through Fairyland towards the Top of the Garden, when they saw Fairy Breeze sitting on top of a very large mushroom. She was happy and blew everyone a great big kiss as they danced past. “Have a fan-fairy-tastic time everyone!”
But shocked, the friends all stopped as Harmony spoke first. “Aren’t you coming with us, Fairy Breeze? You’ve been practising your duet with Prince Cobalt for days!”
But Fairy Breeze shook her head at Harmony’s words.
“And we all hope that Princess Glittermist – his extra special best friend from so long ago – will make it to the wedding in time to sing it with him.”
Harmony tried to persuade the little fairy, telling her that they would all love her to be part of the day’s celebrations, but Fairy Breeze shook her head, not unhappily, but quite certain she was doing the right thing. Really, she still felt a bit confused not knowing exactly who she was.
“Please, don’t give me another thought, it’s my choice to stay here! I hope that you have the most wonderful time. I can’t wait to find out who the surprise Prince and Princess are!”
“We’ll bring you some cake, Fairy Breeze …” called Wizzy
“And some sweeeet nectar!” buzzed Barnaby, and the two friends and Elf waved to their new friend, before they danced a funny little dance of happiness, then raced out of Fairyland.
“You take gentle care of yourself Fairy Breeze, and if you change your mind, call me!” said Harmony.
“We’ll see you a bit later,” finished Rhapsody.
“Have so much fun – I want to hear all about it ... and remember, keep smiling!”
CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR
After the friends had flown through the door of the Magical Mystery Tree, Fairyland was quiet for a moment, when suddenly, with cape swooshing and a nervous smile on his face, Prince Cobalt strode along the cobblestone pathway, right up to the mushroom where Fairy Breeze sat. He took a deep breath, got down on his knee and spoke even before his fairy friend could say hello!
“Fairy Breeze, being with you in Fairyland the last week has been the sweetest, the most magical time I have ever had in my entire life,” he said earnestly.
“Even though you have the forget-me-nots, I have never had a better friend. I love the way we laugh together. I love the way I’m always smiling and happy when I’m with you. Please Fairy Breeze, will you do me the honour of becoming my bride?”
The marriage proposal was so unexpected – so incredible, and Fairy Breeze should have been looking delighted because she had realised that she truly loved Prince Cobalt, but instead she looked worried and sad as she started shaking her head.
“Prince Cobalt you are my best friend in the world, but I can’t marry you! Look at you! You’re a Prince. You have a whole fairyland kingdom to run and your parents, the King and Queen – they expect you to marry a Princess. I’m not a Princess … in fact, I’m not really sure who I am. I think I’m a fairy, but if I am, then I’m a very wind-swept fairy, and without my wand I don’t even have any magic.”
As the Prince started to protest, Fairy Breeze spoke again.
“I’m sorry Prince Cobalt, but I can’t marry you. It wouldn’t be right. You will find your Princess Glittermist and you will be so happy with her.”
“But Fairy Breeze,” the Prince replied. “I don’t want to marry Princess Glittermist … I want to marry you!”
Fairy Breeze took his outstretched hands as she looked down at him. “I’m so honoured by your love my Prince, but I can’t marry you. Not now, not when I don’t know who I am. Please, leave now and go to the Surprise Royal Wedding. Remember the world is a wonderful place, so keep on smiling!” and with that she took his hand, lightly kissed it goodbye, and jumped off the mushroom and dashed down the cobblestone path.
In the Top of the Garden, Granny Love, Sophia and Ethan were standing just outside the house, their bags packed and ready at their feet. Sophia was crying: “Granny Love, I can’t go home - I need to find my tooth!”
“But Sophia, we look nearly dark now,” said Granny gently. “There’s no way we can find your tooth in the dark and I must take you home!”
But even Ethan wanted to help Sophia stop crying. “Granny Love, can’t we stay just one more night! I’ll help her look first thing tomorrow. Don’t cry Sophia - the tooth fairy can come tomorrow night after we’ve found the tooth!”
Granny Love was one of the very best kind of Granny’s, and knew that she would have to let the children stay. “Of course you can stay,” she gave in, “but you need to come inside. I’ll phone your parents and it’s an early night for both of you if you’re going to be up first thing searching for Sophia’s tooth!”
As they walked through the front door, Sophia’s tears drying up at last, Granny Love stopped. “Go on inside,” she quickly thought of an excuse. “I have to … I have to … lock away the chickens. I’ll be there in a moment – you get ready for bed.”
As the door shut, Granny Love whispered to herself. “I promised Rhapsody the children wouldn’t be around … oh dearie, dearie me I do hope I can keep them inside and keep that promise! Now, I must let the fairies know it’s safe to come out. What did I say I’d do?”
Quickly walking to the Chapel, she looked around, made sure all was clear, then with a simple flick of a switch inside the tiny Chapel alcove, turned on a wand-shaped mass of twinkling fairy lights above the Chapel door.
As Granny Love started to walk back to her house, if she’d turned and looked behind her she would have seen Bellisimo Butterfly appear, and with a flitter of her silken wings, light up the pathway to Honeysuckle Chapel, which twinkled with hundreds of tiny mushrooms infused with sparkling, glittering lights shining through their translucent dots and spots.
A string quartet set up next to the pretty pathway and started playing very merry music on the side of the pathway, as one by one, the magical guests started to arrive – the excitement building so quickly!
The friends from the top of the garden arrived in a burst of stars. Harmony, Rhapsody, Barnaby, Elf, Minuet and Wizzy all complimenting Bellissimo on the beautiful sight before them.
“Fairies – something’s shimmering, sparkling up ahead … it’s like a wall of lights …” said Barnaby in awe.
“It’s like a wall of pure magic!” added Elf.
“It’s the shimmer of light,” started Harmony, about to tell them the story of the magic wall, when suddenly in an orchestra of fairy bells and twinkles and shimmering, glimmering lights, the Fairy Queen appeared.
Everyone curtseyed and bowed low as she spoke. “Arise and fairy hello, my loyal and clever friends. It is so lovely to see you once again!”
Rhapsody was the first to find her fairy voice. “Hello, our Queen … we’re so pleased to see you too!” she whispered in awe, overcome at being in front of such a beautiful and revered Queen.
“Please Rhapsody, lead your friends through the shimmer of light and enter Honeysuckle Chapel.” Said the Queen, before turning away to inspect the rest of the garden.
Rhapsody led her friends along the mushroom pathway towards the sheer, glittery wall of shimmer, and when each of the tiny friends walked through the mass of lights, they emerged the other side human size, just the perfect size to enter Honeysuckle Chapel!
Barnaby thought this was the best trick he’d ever seen, and jumped in and out, in and out of the light curtain, making himself big, then small, then big, then small again!
CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE
Back in the house, Sophia and Ethan had changed into their pyjamas and were in bed reading when Granny Love came into the room. She picked up the jeans Sophia had been wearing and gasped as out of the pocked fell Sophia’s tooth. It had been there the whole time!
“Sophia – look!” said Granny Love.
“It’s my tooth!” Sophia cried out happily. She bounded out of bed and gave Granny Love the biggest hug as she took the tooth out of her hand.
From the drawer of the bedside cupboard, Granny Love gently took out a special little tooth pot and held it out for Sophia to place the tooth.
“Time for the Tooth Fairy Spell, Sophia,” she said, as her excited granddaughter picked up her little toy fairy wand next to her bed and waved it over the tooth pot and whispered gently:
Special magic fairy wand, please let Twinkle know
My baby tooth has fallen out, a little while ago
Please tell her that I’ll keep it safe
So when she comes tonight
She can swap it for a shiny coin
And take it to the sky
As Granny Love listened to Sophia’s whispered spell, she walked over towards the window, drawing the curtain nearly closed as she peeped out and saw the hundreds of tiny mushrooms, lit up to guide the way to the Church.
Sophia finished her spell just as Twinkle the Tooth Fairy was about to dance through the old Chapel door. Hearing that a child was reciting the magic spell, Twinkle looked up at the window and gave a little wave to Granny Love, far away in the distance.
CHAPTER TWENTY SIX
Inside Honeysuckle Chapel, all of the guests scrambled to curtsey and bow as The Fairy Queen entered, and they gasped in
awe at being in such a magical, wonderful presence. As she walked regally down the central aisle, The Fairy Queen bowed her head at the alter, then stood and faced the guests. “Welcome friends,” she began.
But outside of the Chapel door, Harmony and Rhapsody were getting nervous, waiting for the Bride and Groom.
“Where are the Prince and Princess? The wedding’s about to start – we can’t have a wedding without a bride and groom!
In Fairyland, just a few gentle lights cast the flowers in a colour of gold, as Fairy Breeze sat on top of a little mushroom looking very sad. A tiny suitcase sat next to her, but she wasn’t making a move, quietly singing “I Feel Lost”. But suddenly the Little Gnome stomped in and Fairy Breeze stopped singing.
“Hello, I’m Fairy Breeze. Who are you? What are you doing here? I thought everyone was going to be at the Royal Fairy Wedding?”
“I’m the Little gnome and I’m not invited,” responded the gnome grumpily.
“But I thought everyone was invited?” answered Fairy Breeze, puzzled.
“Well I was invited to the wedding, but I wasn’t invited to perform,” explained the Gnome. “I’m a great hip hopper but it doesn’t seem like anyone wants to see hip hop at a Surprise Royal Wedding – they just want to see fairy dancing and boring stuff.”
“Gosh, that’s not like Harmony and Rhapsody!” said the little fairy, shaking her head. “I thought they invited all of the magical performers!”
As she looked at him closely, she questioned the gnome standing in front of her. “Mr Gnome, do the fairies know that you’re a dancer?”
The Little Gnome put his hands on his hips in a grumpy stance. “Well they should, fairies are supposed to know everything aren’t they?”
“But have you ever danced in front of them? Have you every shown them you’re a hip hopper?” Fairy Breeze continued.
