The Fairy Princess Wedding
Page 9
The Little Gnome rolled his eyes at the fairy in front of him. “No of course not … when I was a little gnome everyone laughed at my hip hop so I don’t do it any more!”
Gently, Fairy Breeze explained what seemed so obvious to her. “So you want to perform at the Surprise Royal Fairy Wedding, but you haven’t told anyone you want to perform, and nobody knows you can dance?”
As the Little Gnome realised Fairy Breeze was right he was still a bit grumpy – and a bit sheepish as well. “Well … I thought fairies knew everything!”
“Fairies are your special, magical friends – but they’re not mind readers, Mr Gnome” She explained. “Sometimes you need to tell your friends just what you’re thinking in case they truly don’t know.
“I don’t have any friends,” he replied sadly, and Fairy Breeze’s answer surprised him.
“I’ll be your friend!”
“Why do you want to be my friend?” his face was puzzled.
“I like you!” she stated in a matter of fact voice. “You look like you need a friend, and I’m here, so I’ll be your friend.”
“I don’t remember too much with the forget-me-nots, but I do remember Fairy Rule Number One - love your friends just the way they are.”
The Gnome found it hard to be happy after a lifetime of being grumpy, and pointed to her tiny suitcase. “But you look like you’re going away. Great friend … here today, gone tomorrow!” he mumbled.
“Anyway, I thought you were singing with that Prince. Aren’t you going to perform?”
Now it was Fairy Breeze’s turn to look sad. “Not tonight, Mr Gnome. Not tonight.”
The Little Gnome suddenly had a very big attack of the guilts. “You’re never going to want to be my friend you know,” he said a bit oddly.
“But I’ve said I would! I’m not going to change my mind!” stated Fairy Breeze, then watched The Little Gnome pick up his bag and take three things from inside, that he twirled in his hands as he hung his head low.
“Your forget-me-nots are all my fault,” he started to explain. “I was the one who brought bad winds to the top of the garden. It was my fault you got caught in the storm and lost your wand, and then I found your wand and tried to do fairy magic with it.”
Taking a deep breath, he drew up to his full size and looked Fairy Breeze in the eyes. “I’m sorry. It was wrong of me,” then passed Breeze the wand, tiara and necklace.
Fairy Breeze simply could not believe what she was seeing glittering in front of her, and gently took the precious, magical pieces from his outstretched hand.
CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
Harmony and Rhapsody were still standing outside at the door, becoming more and more worried that the bride and groom haven’t arrived when suddenly Harmony looked up to the sky, and in her mind popped flashbacks from the past few weeks. She remembered listening on the phone to Princess Glittermist’s voicemail “keep smiling”, then saw Fairy Breeze just a short time before saying the very same words in Fairyland.
Harmony grabbed Rhapsody by the arm. “Rhapsody … Rhapsody! It’s her, it’s the fairy … it’s her wand …”
Rhapsody looked confused. “Which fairy? Whose wand?”
“Keep smiling – Fairy Breeze said those words to us as we left Fairyland … she says them all the time. She’s the one, it’s her voice, she’s the one always smiling!
Rhapsody shook her head. “Of course – Fairy Breeze is a very happy fairy … I don’t understand …”
Harmony took a deep breath and explained gently but with excitement in her voice “Rhapsody, every time I’ve called Princess Glittermist I get the same message … ‘keep smiling’. The same words that Fairy Breeze uses all the time! Rhapsody – we need to go and tell her!” Harmony grabbed her fairy friend by the hand and pulled her down the steps of the chapel as Rhapsody, who still didn’t realise what her purple fairy friend was talking about, cried out “Harmony, tell who, what?”
In Fairyland, Fairy Breeze held her wand tightly, her face lit up as memories started piling back into her mind.
“Oh Mr Gnome, my wand! And my tiara and the my magical pendant given to me by my best friend when I was just five years old!” Fairy Breeze gasped. “Oh my goodness me, my best friend was Prince Cobalt!” Shaking her head, almost in disbelief, she whispered “I’m, I’m Princess …”
“Glittermist!!” cried out Harmony as she flew hand in hand with Rhapsody towards the door of the Magical Mystery Tree, waved her wand at the tree, and flew through into Fairyland. “Fairy Breeze is Princess Glittermist!”
CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT
The Little Gnome was almost speechless. “You’re Princess Glittermist?” but the Princess could not answer him because right then, Prince Cobalt ran back into Fairyland as fast as his flowing cape would allow him, not realising that Harmony and Rhapsody were only a few mushrooms behind him.
“Oh Fairy Breeze – I’m so pleased you’re still here.”
As Rhapsody went to run up to her friends, Harmony held her back.
“Fairy Breeze, you’re wrong!” said Prince Cobalt, kneeling down before Fairy Breeze. “I don’t need to marry a princess, I need to marry the fairy that I love, and I love you Fairy Breeze. With all of my heart and all of my soul, I love you. You must believe me – you are my best friend. You make me laugh. You make my heart sing every time I see you. You keep me smiling all day long.”
With his eyes twinkling at Fairy Breeze, he took his gold, jewelled encrusted crown from the top of his head and gently handed it to her.
“This is my crown. I will instantly and happily give up my Princehood if it means we can spend the rest of our lives together. I love you, Fairy Breeze.”
With the Prince’s crown held out towards her, Fairy Breeze’s face lit up with the most extraordinary, beautiful smile. “Oh my Prince … I don’t know what to say except … I love you too …”, and instead of taking his crown, she reached up and placed her own tiara on her wind-blown hair, and the Little Gnome stood on tippie toes and clasped the necklace around her neck.
With her two magical pieces back in their rightful place, fairy dust started to twirl around Fairy Breeze until she her body was fully encased in golden light and magical sparkles. Prince Cobalt stepped back in surprise as fairy dust settled and standing in front of him was the most stunning, most beautiful fairy princess he could ever have imagined. Whispering in awe and disbelief, Prince Cobalt knelt before her and took her hands in his. “You’re my Princess Glittermist!”
Gently kneeling down with her Prince, the fairy’s smile was radiant. “I am Princess Glittermist, but I will always be your Fairy Breeze, your duet partner and your friend for life.”
The Little Gnome could not help himself, and with all of his hard and grumpy outside, the tears rolled down his face and he hiccupped loudly, a little romantic piece inside him bursting out into Fairyland.
Harmony and Rhapsody’s arms were linked as they smiled gleefully at the Prince and Princess. “I think we’ve all just discovered who the Surprise Royal Fairy Wedding is for!” said Harmony.
“Prince Cobalt, Princess Glittermist, a Fairy Queen and hundreds of very excited fairies, elves, wizards and other magical creatures await you in Honeysuckle Chapel,” beamed Rhapsody.
The Prince stood up and guided Princess Glittermist to her feet, who let go of his hand to turn to the Little Gnome and bring him forward into sight of The Fairies.
“Harmony, Rhapsody … please meet my new and special friend who would just love to perform for us tonight, but he’s been too shy to tell you. May I present to you …” she paused for a moment before another smile lit up her face. “May I present to you Hip Hop the Little Gnome!”
“Hip Hop,” repeated Rhapsody. You’re that little gnome who has the funkiest dance moves I’ve ever seen! Wow – will you perform for us all? I thought you were too shy! Fan-fairy-tastic!”
And this magical story could have ended right here, but wait … we can’t forget, there’s a wedding to a
ttend! Let’s go!
CHAPTER TWENTY NINE
Harmony and Rhapsody waved their magical wands over the group standing before them, and in a burst of fairy stars, they all disappeared from Fairyland.
Inside Honeysuckle Chapel, The Fairy Queen was standing with her back to the congregation, then gracefully turned around, drawing ‘oos’ and ‘aahs’ from everyone as a million stars shone from her dress.
The sound of wedding music split the silence of the Chapel, and everyone turned in anticipation to see Prince Cobalt emerge from a door at the side of the Chapel and walk purposefully to the alter.
Then so, so slowly, the double doors at the back creaked opened to slowly reveal Princess Glittermist, the most beautiful bride anyone had ever seen.
In the front row, Barnaby, Elf, Wizzy, Minuet, Twinkle and Bubbles all gasped and Wizzy and Barnaby had tears of romantic joy streaming down their faces as they whispered together “It’s Fairy Breeze!”.
Harmony and Rhapsody emerged from behind the Princess and led the fairy tot bridesmaids, elf tot pageboys down the aisle in front of the beautiful bride, to the gasps, tears and totally happiness of the congregation.
As they arrived at the alter, the Fairy Queen rose up and spoke in her velvety voice. “We are gathered here today in this beautiful Honeysuckle Chapel to join together Fairy Princess Glitter … I mean, Fairy Breeze, and Elf Prince Cobalt in magical matrimony,” and as one, the hundreds of fairies, elves, pixies, bees, wizards and every other magical creature stood as one and cheered!
After a few seconds, the Fairy Queen held up her hands and continued. “This Prince and Princess come together as best friends, who respect each other’s differences, adore their similarities, and love each other as best friends should.”
“Harmony and Rhapsody, do you give your fairy blessing to the marriage between Princess Glittermist and Prince Cobalt?
With magical smiles, Harmony and Rhapsody’s voices were strong and clear. “We do!” they replied happily.
“Elf Prince Cobalt, do you take this fairy, Princess Glittermist, to be your wedded princess, to laugh with and to cry with, to have and to hold, from this day forward, to love and to cherish and to stay best friends forever?”
“I do,” Said the Prince.
And the Fairy Queen turned to the Princess. “Fairy Princess Breeze, do you take this Elf, Prince Cobalt, to be your wedded prince, to laugh with and to cry with, to have and to hold, from this day forward, to love and to cherish and to stay best friends forever?”
Her smile lighting up the Chapel, Fairy Princess Glittermist turned and gazed into the eyes of her adoring Prince. “I do,” she said quietly.
“Then by the power vested in me as The Fairy Queen, ruler of all Fairylands, overseer of all magical creatures, I pronounce you Prince and Princess and best friends forever. You may now kiss.”
As Princess Glittermist and Prince Cobalt leant towards each other, the two halves of their necklaces brushed together, and as their lips touched each others in the sweetest of kisses, fireworks and fairy dust sparkled from the married couple. As they drew away, smiling, each necklace half had formed into two wholes with the words inscribed ‘Forever Friends’.
THE END
EPILOGUE
As the congregation erupted into cheers and applause, fairy bells rang across the land, and a sea of glitter and flower petals fell from the sky above.
Sophia and Ethan had almost fallen into the land of sleepy dreams when the sound of ringing bells made them sit up, wipe the sleepy dust from their eyes and look at each other.
“Can you hear that, Ethan,” Sophia whispered to her brother.
Ethan nodded. “Sounds like … sounds like … ringing bells!” he answered before throwing off his bedclothes and racing to the window.
“Look Sophia, Honeysuckle Chapel is … it’s alive!”
Sophia joined him at the window before grabbing his arm. “Come on Ethan, let’s go!”
They raced out of the bedroom calling for Granny Love as they ran, the children running onto the lawn, followed by Granny in a billowing white nightdress.
The three humans ran through the falling petals and fairy dust to the window of Honeysuckle Chapel, where they peered through the stained-glass windows, eyes open in total amazement at the sight of wedding celebrations before them.
Granny finally caught up with the children and put an arm around each of their shoulders.
“Sophia, Ethan, we need to give our fairyland friends their privacy. Come on, back to bed. I’ve got a wonderful story to tell you!”
The next morning, Sophia woke early. “Ethan! Wake up,” she whispered urgently, as she looked in awe at the tiny tooth pot next to her bed. It took just a few moments for Ethan to wake up from the land of sleepy dreams, and he threw back the bedclothes and bounded over to Sophia’s bedside table. The baby tooth that had been nestled inside the little pot was gone, and in its place was a shiny, gold coin. “Sophia,” said Ethan with a huge smile. “There are fairies living in our garden!”
