“You are right Alpha. Something is off about the whole situation. Our first priority should be now found out with whom he was working and meanwhile, I would put our Luna back on the feet.” She told me with a smile before she left the room closing the light so we could get some sleep.

  REI’S POV:

I was in the hospital when I finally woke up. My whole body was still hurting me, especially the hip but the pain was not the same as when I was down in that pit. I still had the feeling of being thirsty but I saw the cannula in my arm and the dripping bottle hanging above me. I knew Emily was giving me so much needed fluids. At this moment it would be useless to drink. I could feel the sparks on the left side of my body and when I turned my head, I saw sleeping Calen. He was so cute but I could see the tiredness on his face. I was sure he was searching for me the whole time especially with those dark bags and circles under his eyes.

I tried to adjust myself so I could be closer to him and actually hug him with my upper arm but it was quite difficult with the cannula. Calen opened his icy blue eyes and was sleepily staring right at me. “I am sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up.” I apologize swiftly but he was just staring at me. To my surprise and shock, one stray tear fell down from his eye. “I found you, princess. I found you.” He was repeating. I felt like he was blaming himself and he was angry at himself for an unknown reason.

“Yes, you did. You did find me, my love.” I repeated after him stroking the hair which I could reach with my left hand that was locked in his chest as he was hugging me. “I knew that you would find me. I heard you down there giving me the courage and power to hold on.” I told him and he was looking at me with a blank face. I knew I was right and he was surprised that I could feel it. I didn’t feel him searching for me.

“You would never ever leave my sight again princess. I swear even if I would have to put the cuffs on our hands you would be always by my side where I could see you.” He told me and I knew that part he was joking but partly he wished to do it so he would be sure that I am safe and never far from him. I actually felt the same way. I didn’t want to go away from him because no matter what was happening or no matter where I was, here beside him was the safest place on this planet I was planning to stay right here forever.

  Chapter 43

  CALEN’S POV:

“Did you find out what exactly that drug is?” I asked Emily when she came to check on Rei. I slept for several hours and Rei was still firmly inside my hugs. My hand was honestly dying and my whole body hurt me from not moving during my sleep but I didn’t care. I had her right beside me and I could feel her warmth, it was the only thing I cared about right now.

“It is a mixture of wolfsbane with paralytics. They were specifically modified to literally paralyze the wolf inside us. I guess the wolf could overcome it at some point but we would not know for sure until Rei would wake up and tell us how she feels. I am trying to find something to neutralize it, which should be done in a few days max. I have to say that Rei’s laboratory is very useful right now.” She told me to come closer to Rei and stroked her hair. I could see that she really cared deeply for her and not only because she was the Luna of the pack but they really grew the sisterly bond between them during those months Rei was here.

“Thank you. I guess I should get back to work and find out what that mother*cker knows about the drug.” I said and Emily nodded to me. I slowly moved away from the Rei and my body instantly felt the cold from being away from her. I wanted to take her with me. Just take her into my arms together with the infusion that was still slowly dripping and just take her with me but I also knew I couldn’t, definitely not to the place where I was heading now.

“Anytime Alpha. I know it is hurting you to leave her here but I would take care of her. I would call Andrew, Edie, Paul, and Trace here.” She told me and I gave her a curious look. “I might be just a doctor Alpha but I know who our best warriors are. I assume you would feel more comfortable with them securing the place.” She answered my gaze and I gave her a forced smile. I wanted to smile at her for the consideration and understanding towards me being overprotective at this moment with my Luna but I simply couldn’t force the smile much further because of Rei’s condition.

“Thank you for that. I would place more guards on the corridor and on each floor and also around the stairs and elevator. No one would get in and out without them knowing, so I leave her here in your care.” I was really grateful to her for the care she provided to my Luna but my voice still came out harsher than I was originally planning. She simply smiled at me ignoring the tone of my voice. Andrew really got an amazing mate by himself.

“Sure Alpha,” Emily replied to me. I was already out of the bed and ready to leave the room. I kissed Rei on the top of her head and left the room.

‘Zack, meet me in five minutes, down in the jail.’ I told him. I didn’t know where exactly he was so I wanted to give him a little bit time since I was just one floor above that motherf*cker’s jail. “Hello, again Ismail. How are you doing today?” I asked the mother*cker the moment I entered the hall. It was not particularly long or big. We created something around twenty separated small rooms with the bars working as jail rooms. Each might be two or over two meters, really nothing big, ten jails on each side of the wall, and the walking corridor in between wide enough that none of the locker bastards would grad the one walking here. The interrogation space was at the end of the room. I didn’t want anybody who would enter the space to see right away what was happening. In our old pack land, we actually never had to use it but you never know when this might come in handy, and here we are.

“You gave up searching?” Ismail asked me with a twisted laugh. Good seems the information that we found Rei still didn’t get to him.

“Ah, no, I came to tell you the good news. Rei is safely home. I guess we simply forgot to tell you that before.” I told him. I used to exaggerate a little bit to make it sound like she is home already for a long time and not that we found her just a few hours ago. He didn’t need to know her condition.

I could sense his anger from knowing that he failed. He really did not expect us to find her in the cave system but whatever. He should be more worried about his own life at this moment.

“By the way the drug you injected her with, be at ease, Emily has a way to neutralize it so actually the only thing you managed to do is to destroy Christmas for the whole pack but I guess we could celebrate later so no damage was done. You are pretty useless. I guess your master would not be very pleased.” I was talking laxly like I didn’t care. My blood was boiling from the anger just from knowing how much he hurt her and how much real damage he actually caused. I still didn’t know how badly Rei was injured mentally. I was really afraid that this episode would put her back behind her walls and we would need to start from the beginning.

“I am not working for any master.” Motherf*cker spat it out like a poison. He had to work with someone or at least have a connection to anybody who provided him with this drug. Emily said it was specially made to block the wolf inside us which meant it had to be made in a professional laboratory. For sure he didn’t make it by himself somewhere out in the woods or in a small town. ‘Emily, could you produce a little bit of that drug?’ I suddenly got some idea and immediately linked with Emily to ask her if there was a chance to carry out my plan. ‘I would need one or two hours but I should be able to make the drug easily now when I know what they used.’ Emily replied to me instantly and I could not really wait to proceed with my plan. ‘So, make it done please.’ I told her. ‘Alright, Alpha.’ She answered.

“Ah, I see you are having fun Alpha,” Zack spoke the moment he entered the room. I informed him through our link about everything that Emily told me about the drug and also about my plan and he just smiled in our link and it sounded evil.

“Another loser joined us,” Motherf*cker said seeing Zack in the room. I really didn’t know what exactly his problem was but for some reason, he really hated everyone in this
pack. “You know Ismail, I really don’t get it. You didn’t have a bad life in the pack. You had a good position as Elder. You could have anything you wanted but for some reason, you were not happy at all, no, on the contrary, you had to start plotting against the pack, and in the end, you had to turn your back and even abduct our Luna. I am really curious about what your Master promised you in exchange to try to kill her or to go against us.” I said again with a lax voice. I already knew what I would do to him but I just needed to get some time and make him speak. I could actually even easily enjoy this little chit chat while getting some information from him.

“I told you boy I don’t work for anybody.” He said again but I simply did not believe him. “Well, you are not that smart to create such drugs by yourself. Emily said it was a pretty complex drug specially made for us werewolves. You would have a try soon; she would make one especially for you.” I told him laughing. His face cringed so he knew exactly what this drug was. “You couldn’t!” He shouted at me. “I couldn't do what? Use it against you?” I asked him. “You couldn’t create it. You are lying.” He spat out again.

“Oh, you think we are the same stupid as you are? Don’t be mistaken. Rei was very good when it came to mixing drugs and you could trust me when I say Emily learned everything from her so she said she could easily make it with the laboratory Rei built.” I told him and I could see the fear and anger rising in him. He knew now that I was not joking. Zack had his twisted smile on his face and I could see that he was clearly enjoying this chit chat the same as I did.

“That’s not possible. It was made by professional chemistry, that little w***e could not be smarter than him.” Motherf*cker said with the full blow of arrogance and hate. I was not sure if he was now referring to Emily or to Rei but it didn’t matter. I would not accept him talking like this about any of those two.

  ~*****~

‘Alpha, I prepared the drug. I would bring it down but I would not enter the room so please send Zack out to take it.’ Emily informed me and I nodded to her. ‘I would send him right away. How is Rei?’ I told her and asked back about my mate. ‘She is still sleeping Alpha but the paleness is already gone and now she has her normal color. She would be alright soon. I just need to finish the serum so her wolf could heal her hip.’ She replied to me and I could feel relieved that at least something was working out as it should. ‘Thank you, Emily.’ I replied to her before I closed the link.

In a minute Zack was back with the injection. By the smell, I could really feel it was a mixture of wolfsbane with something else but I didn’t recognize it. I was sure Rei would know exactly. We put mother*cker to the chair out of the jail and tied him up to it really tightly. The terror in his eyes multiplied when he saw the injection Zack was carrying now. I didn’t waste even a minute. I took it from him and right away injected mother*cker. He tried to fight but he was tied really firmly so he could barely move. He was shouting something about giving it away from him and so on but I didn’t listen and I didn’t care. I wanted him to feel the same torture and pain he caused to my Luna and I was sure I would enjoy it. I didn’t know how long it needed to work but once the whole injection was in his body he passed out.

‘He passed out.’ I informed Emily. ‘Hmm, interesting. I guess it is a side effect. The connection between him and the wolf should be severed during this time. Once he wakes up his wolf would be blocked away from him.’ She informed me. So now I just needed to wait until he woke up. ‘Emily, is there any way to make this permanent? Could you somehow adjust the drug and literally break the connection with the wolf forever?’ I asked her and she took some time to think. ‘I guess there might be a way but I think I would need Rei for this. Her wolf is old, and the knowledge those two have is way older and more complex than I have. She would know the way how to make it.’ Emily replied to me. ‘Thank you.’ I said back. I wasn’t sure I wanted to ask Rei to make a drug like this but at the same time, I was thinking that maybe she might seek revenge but she would not be able to carry the guilt from hurting him.

Maybe, just maybe she might be able to create the drug as a punishment. We could just sever the bond with his wolf forever.

‘Tell me if she wakes up, I would talk to her.’ I asked Emily. ‘I would Alpha.’ She replied immediately. I started to wonder if she was keeping the link open every single time.

“What shall we do now?” Zack asked me to see the lifeless body in front of us. “He passed out. Emily said it might be a side effect of the bond being blocked. He would wake up the same as Rei did.” I explained to him. I called guards to the room to stay here with him until he wakes up so I would get a notification the moment he does. The real fun is going to start soon. I already knew that he was not working alone but he is not gonna tell us who gave him the drug. We would see how much he would be able to withstand the torturing while his wolf is not protecting him or healing him.

  Chapter 44

  CALEN’S POV:

“Hello princess?” I said sweetly once Rei finally opened her eyes fully. There was no fear, nothing except huge gratitude and love. “Hello, my love.” She replied to me back while trying to lift herself on her hands and get her into a sitting position. “You should relax princess.” I tried to stop her but she was pushing against my hand. “I was relaxing and sleeping enough. Emily gave me the serum so my Maat is fully back and I want to check my hip. Maat said it is healed but I want to see.” She told me and I gave up. She was determined so the only thing left for me was to help her unless I wanted to fight with her.

“Alright, take my hand then,” I told her and I lifted her up so she could stand beside the bed. “How does it feel?” I asked her. She put a thinking expression on her face and narrowed her eyebrow. “Still a little bit weak, but the pain is gone. I would need some exercises with Zack I guess.” She told me and I laughed. “Full of energy huh?” I asked her and she nodded with a smile.

“You caught him?” She asked and her expression changed. I nodded without giving a said reply. “Did you think about his punishment yet?” Rei asked me and I was not sure if I should really tell her or not. “Maybe,” I said, pulling her back to bed so we could sit. “To be honest I was thinking really what should I do with him and I was afraid that you might want to seek revenge by yourself. I know what he did to you and how you might feel but at the same time I don’t want you to get your hands dirty by hurting him.” I told her seriously and she was listening until I finished. She opened her mouth to say something but no words came out of her. I was right she wanted to get revenge on him but what I said made her really think about the consequences of such a thing. She never hurt anybody, just the animal for hunting, for her survival and I saw how she was hunting. She felt pain already from taking the life of an animal. I could not possibly let her hurt someone if I knew that it would eat her from inside.

“Look, the drug he injected you with, it was made especially for the werewolves. It is supposed to block the connection between you and the wolf as Emily explained to you right? I know you two were talking about the effects on you and your wolf so we could understand how the drug works properly.” I spoke and her attention was completely on me. She nodded to me on the information I just said.

“I asked Emily if we could make it permanent. This drug is still reversible because it is not breaking the bond only blocking it, but Emily said with your knowledge you might be able to find the way how to make it permanent, how to block the bond between the human and the wolf.” I told her and her expression changed. She knew what I had in my mind at least I hoped.

“You want to use it on him. Not killing him but making him human.” She said back and I nodded to her. She was thinking for several long minutes and there was silence during the time. I knew she was thinking about the options and consequences. I also knew creating drugs like this would be dangerous in many aspects if it gets out or in the hand of someone who might use it badly.

“I would do it.” She said in the end and I could hear the determination
in her voice. “I would do it not because of him but because if they already created drugs like this, they might also think about how to make it permanent. If I make it permanent, maybe I would be able to find a way to reverse it in case they would use it on any of our pack members.” She said and I was really proud of her. “But you know I would use it on him,” I said and she nodded. “You were right when you said I wanted revenge. I wanted him to know that I am alright and I wanted him to suffer but you were also right assuming that making something like this by myself I probably would not be able to handle it in the future. He needs to be punished and I know the punishment for hurting Luna is death. Using this drug on him would be better than killing him.” She said and I gave her a sad smile. She was way too smart but I was not sure if she was good or not.

“You are amazing, do you know that?” I told her trying to change the flow of her thoughts. “Yes, yes I know.” She said fully blushing. I kissed her and returned the kiss with love. I was really glad I had her back in one piece.
