“By the way princess, you should get some rest. After two days is New Year and I am going to take you out for a few days.” I told her and her eyes widened from excitement. “Where would we go?” She asked me but I shook my head. “That would be a surprise for you,” I said teasingly and she slapped my back jokingly.
“If you are taking me out for a few days then there is no time for rest. I should get to work so we could leave without any unfinished business behind us.” She replied to me and I fully understood what she meant. I would be rather if she would rest but I could not push her. She was already in bed for a week now.
REI’S POV:
Yesterday Calen asked me to make the drug that would break the bond between the human and his wolf. I was actually working on it for around sixteen hours now and Emily was helping me. Thanks to the drug Emily showed me that I was injected with. I understood the concept of what they created but using paralytics was only temporary since those drugs were reversible. I was trying to create something permanent, something that would last so I needed to change those paralytics with something that would do the deed. I was thinking about specific drugs and herbs that actually have an effect on the body this way. I needed to damage the connection which means damage the specific neural system in our brain where the soul of the wolf is placed.
Thinking about it this way made me realize what kind of weapon I am creating. I was not so sure any more about this. The wolves are gifts from our Moon Goddess and breaking the connection doesn’t mean you would kill the human or the wolf but at the same moment, I was not sure by breaking the bond the wolf would not just stand stuck there until the human died. I was torn inside trying to figure out what I should do. I knew that if I told Calen that I changed my mind and I didn't want to do it, who would not be angry with me but at the same time I needed to do it, to see if the damage was done with drugs like that could be fixed. Is it alright to test it on Ismail or am I being too cruel? ‘You have full right to test it on him. He already tried to break the connection between us. He tried to kill me actually. The dose he gave us was meant to kill me.’ Maat told me. ‘Why didn't you tell me this earlier?’ I complained and scolded her. ‘I was afraid that you might get too angry or emotional and try to hurt him physically. I don’t mind you hurting him indirectly if the research you are doing could save others whose life is innocent. I could sacrifice one who doesn’t deserve the gift given by Moon Goddess in order to protect those who cherish the gifts.’ Maat told me and I knew exactly what he meant, what she felt.
It still didn’t make me feel better but at least she gave me new courage to continue my work. I knew Calen wanted to take us out which means I had the rest of the day today and most of the time tomorrow but in the evening I should get ready. I still didn’t know when exactly he wanted to leave but at least I wanted to give my best till we leave so I would not be leaving something unfinished because I wasn’t able to finish but something that simply got the best of me during the time I had and the rest would wait when I came back.
~*****~
“You should get some sleep,” Emily told me when she came back. I didn’t feel tired, to be honest. “Which time now?” I asked her. “Eight.” She replied to me and I waved my hand. “Still enough time.” I waved it away and continued with my work. “Eight in the morning.” She added which earned her my attention. “What,” I asked her confused. How is that even possible? “You were working the whole night.” She told me and I turned to her really confused. I didn’t think it was actually that late. “I am actually almost done,” I told her, turning back to my work, and this time it was her standing there with the shock on her face, at least I hope she was shocked. “You are kidding me.” She said and I heard the steps as she was speeding towards me.
“Nope, I am serious. I think I got it.” I confirmed for her. I was actually waiting for the results from the last test. I simply changed the paralytic drugs with the natural poison from the snakes. The poison of some snakes was already focused to cause neural damage and I simply used that for the purpose I needed. It was actually Maat who gave me this idea and she even told me which snake would be perfect. I got the poison a few hours ago. Made a little change in its structure and now I was waiting for the result of the drug I created.
The computer soon made a beep sound from finishing the test and I could see the results. “It seems we have our drug. The damage is too severe and couldn’t be fixed without the wolf but the wolf is blocked out.” I told her and she checked the results by herself. It was only theoretical and I run the simulation on the computer but the drug is finished, we just need to test it on a living subject. I actually used two separate drugs. I used the one he used on me to block the wolf but at the same time the drug caused the damage to the neural system which connects us with our wolves.
“You want to test it?” Emily asked once she checked the results herself. “It might be really painful and I am not really sure about the doses. I guess we need to make a little bit more tests before we use it but that’s only a matter of time to process.” I told her and she nodded to me. “I guess you should get some sleep now,” Emily told me and I agreed. I had only several hours before Calen took me out somewhere and sure I didn’t want to pass out on our date.
CALEN’S POV:
‘She figured it out but she wants to make more tests to be sure it would not kill him or anything.’ Emily informed me. ‘She didn’t sleep or what?’ I asked her back and based on the delay Emily had with the reply I guessed I was right. ‘Never mind. You think it is ready?’ I asked her instead not wanting to put more pressure on her. Sure, she was sleeping and I could not blame Rei’s obsession with Emily.
‘The tests are promising and it really breaks the bond. She made it so quickly because she is actually using two separate drugs. She used the original one to block the connection and at the same time another drug made from the snake poison to break the neural system which connects us with our wolves which makes it permanent because you need a wolf to heal the neural system but the wolf is blocked out so it couldn’t be healed.’ Emily explained to me. ‘So, what is the problem, why doesn't she want to test it?’ I asked in the mind link back. ‘She doesn’t know the dose. If you put too much it might kill him, if not enough he might heal from it.’ Emily explained to me. ‘Can you figure out the dose alone?’ I asked her. I didn’t want to go against Rei or behind her back but I sooner we use it better for us. I didn’t want to risk that he might escape again. Till now I still didn’t know how the hell did he escape the last time.
‘I might be. I just need to run some tests.’ Emily informed me and I told her to do it.
~*****~
“Are you sure about that?” I asked Emily once she told me the tests are finished. We talked about two hours ago and she ran multiple tests at the same time to make it as quickly as possible which I really appreciated. I wanted to take Rei out, just two of us, away from anyone and far away from here. I knew Zackary had a private Island which would be absolutely amazing because it would be warm there and Rei could go diving for real. I was planning a vacation for her there. The jet would be leaving tomorrow morning but since there is no airport we need to travel to the city. That would be around four to five hours in the car since it is night and the roads would be empty, maybe even faster.
“I ran ten tests simultaneously adjusting the doses. This would be the perfect one for making it permanent without killing the subject.” Emily told me. I believed her. I knew I could count on her. The only thing left was to decide whether to do it behind Rei’s back or wait for her. I was afraid she might get angry with me. ‘Maat is sleeping too or you could talk to her?’ I asked my wolf. ‘She is up.’ Thoth replied to me after the second.
‘Ask her what she thinks. What would be better for Rei.’ I told him. It took several minutes so I guess they were discussing and Maat was thinking. I loved Maat. She was an amazing wolf and I knew she did her best to keep my mate happy and healthy. She cared for her as a mother cares
for her pups and for that I loved her deeply and I knew Thoth felt this way too. She was his mate so she had actually no other choice.
‘She said that Rei would be angry but in the long run it is better to do it without her so she would not feel the guilt from doing it. With the anger, she could help.’ Thoth told me and understood what they meant by the anger. Rei could be really terrifying once she was angry.
‘Alright then.’ I replied to him before I called Zack. “Thank you, Emily. How much should I put into the injection?” I asked her but she took the bottle with the drug. “I would do it Alpha.” She told me. “I don’t want you to feel guilty for doing it,” I told her but she shook her head. “I want to do it. I would even inject him by myself for what he has done. The father of my mate died with his mate the day of the attack on this pack. This man is only a shadow of what he was. Now it is time for him to pay for everything he had done.” She told me with a very strict voice. I knew that she didn’t hate him but at the same time there was no love or admiration for this person. She was right that he died several years ago with his mate and not even I recognized this person anymore. She put the drug into the injection and handed it to me. “It is a proper punishment for him. He doesn’t deserve to die because that would be too easy. Taking away his wolf would be sufficient to make him feel the pain he caused.” She told me, handing me the injection. I nodded to her and was heading down to the jail.
When I arrived, Ismail was already tied to the chair again and Zack was waiting for me with Hannah and the warriors just in case something went wrong and he would try to escape. “You don’t need to be here auntie,” I told Hannah. She shushed me off and I didn’t push further.
Ismail had a fear written all over his face. “What do you want to do? Kill me?” He asked. “Death would be too easy. You deserve punishment. Our Luna improved the drug you injected her with and this time the bond between you and the wolf would be gone for good. No more talking to him. He would be gone.” I informed him and he struggled towards the chair trying to free him. “You couldn’t do that to me. Just kill me.” He begged but I wasn’t planning to grant him his wish.
“If you want to die later you could do it by yourself,” I told him before I stabbed him with the injection. He was fighting but he was tied tightly which didn’t allow him any movements. I slowly started to press on the injection and saw the drug being pushed inside his body.
Once it was done, we were standing around him watching the expression on his face changing. I knew it was painful. He was injected with the mixture of paralytic drugs and wolfsbane which was burning and at the same time extracted from the snake poison which was burning and destroying the specific neural connection in his brain. He was burning from inside and he was suffering. It took maybe ten minutes before his body stopped shaking and he was sitting lifelessly in the chair heavily panting.
“Keep him locked for now; we would check later if that really works,” I said before I left the room and was heading to get ready so I could take my mate away from this place at least for a limited time.
Epilogue
REI'S POV:
"Where are we going?" I asked Calen but he only put the smirk on his face without replying to me. We were in the car for about three hours and I was starting to be a little nervous and especially bored. Don't get me wrong, I was glad he was taking me somewhere out but damn it didn't have to be so far.
"Could you at least talk to me, please?" I made my kitty begging eyes and was pretending to start crying. "Sure, if you stop trying to get information about where we are going, I would be delighted to talk to you princess," Calen replied to me with a smile decorating his face.
There were a million things I wanted to talk with him about, but at the same time no words or thoughts we're coming into my mind at this moment. I moved closer to him and simply placed my head on his shoulder. I gave up on getting any information from him or even any conversation.
~*****~
I woke slightly from the humping feeling. I realized I was being carried. "Did I wake you up?" Calen looked at me down and I sleepily nodded to him. "I am a sorry princess. We are changing the car to the plane. You might continue sleeping, it would take time before we arrive." Calen nicely informed me, still carrying me in his arms but his steps became lighter as he tried to carry me more smoothly.
It took a second for my sleepy brain to process what he just said. I turned my head in the direction he was walking and saw a private jet waiting for us in the hangar. "That's yours?" I asked him curiously.
"Nope, we borrowed it from Zackary. I would rather spend money to buy new equipment or clothes or pay for studies, for our pack members than buying something so unnecessary." He told me and I was looking up at his face completely confused.
I didn't want to ask more questions and honestly had no idea how I was supposed to feed about the flight. I have never flown before. I could feel the heart inside my chest increasing the speed and Calen stopped for a second looking down at me.
"Is it the first time?" He asked me and I nodded.
"Don't worry I would be with you the whole time and you would see it is very comfortable inside." He told me leaning his head closer to mine so he could kiss my temple.
I stopped thinking about it and leaned my head back on his chest, closing my eyes and focusing on his scent and his heartbeat. Both were calming me down and soon found myself once again in my dreamland.
~*****~
"Time to wake up princess, we would land in five minutes. You might want to check out from the window." I heard him saying while he was gently shaking my shoulder.
I stretched a bit while trying to open my eyes. The sun was surprisingly too bright and I felt nice warm from outside even despite being still onboard the plane. I peeked out from the window and what I saw took the breath out of my chest. The water below us was so clear and beautiful I could not turn my gaze away.
"Where are we?" I asked Calen and guess he liked my reaction because he was looking at me with perfect satisfaction in his eyes.
"Private Island." Was the only thing he told me but I didn't care. I turned back to the window but the water below us was changed with the runway and soon after the plane landed on the ground.
I tried to be the first at the door and the moment they opened the salty air hit my nose. It was extremely hot with the high humidity and the salt in the air was really strong but together it created an amazing combination and the air was perfect. It even tasted amazing if you know what I mean.
I looked around the only thing I actually saw was several villas, a small harbor, and this tiny airport. Honestly, it looked like it was built just for this jet.
"Does this island belong to Zackary too?" I asked and Calen nodded. "I thought so," I added.
Calen came to me and took my hand pulling me towards one of the villas. I actually noticed it is the farthest one if you take ten minutes of walking as a big distance but it was there exactly on the beach and closest to the sea.
In the harbor were two small boats and one speedboat but in the general, there was no one around except two pilots who went to the villa on the other side of the island opposite of our direction and two girls who were also on board with us. They were going our direction but soon split from us and went to a different villa.
"The pilots would stay on the other side but girls would stay here and would care for us. Today you could relax and do whatever you want. Tomorrow we have a trip by ship." Calen told me with a smile.
I had no words. I was never in a place like this or smell this kind of air. It was so refreshing and the wind was absolutely perfect with the sunny weather so you actually didn't have a feeling you were burning in the sun.
The villa was amazing. Everything was made of a combination of wood and stone and it looked so natural. This villa had a soul and I definitely loved the vibration it was generating. From outside the villa didn't look that big but when you entered the open area made you feel that the space is huge. The whole living area
had the walls made of glass with a direct view of the sea and there was an entrance to a terrace where I saw tables and chairs and swing. The living room was directly connected to the kitchen from where was another entrance to the terrace so you could actually eat outside watching the sea.
On this floor was one bathroom with a shower and a toilet and the other bigger bathroom was up on the second floor. Except for the bathroom, there was like a balcony made bedroom. Everything was so clean and fresh and for a split second, I wished to stay here forever.
I don't know how but my suitcase was already here. I opened it and took out the swimming suit I got from Calen before but for some reason, it somehow didn't fit with the place. Calen was till now quiet and was just following me as I was walking around the villa and admiring everything around but he probably noticed my disappointed face when I was looking at my swimming suit.
"Come here, princess." He was standing beside his suitcase taking out a nicely packed present.
"For me?" I asked confused and he nodded. "But why?" I asked and he motioned for me to open my present. It was two pieces of swimsuit, well, bikini in a dark blue color. I turned to him with an unspoken question in my eyes because these pieces of fabric didn't leave too much for imagination and I was not sure if he was serious.
"Don't get me, the wrong princess, this swimsuit is the reason why our pilots are staying alone on the other half of the island, and by the way tomorrow on the boat you are wearing the old one." He told me and I could say that he was deadly serious so I assumed this piece of fabrics are only for his own eyes. I didn't mind it at all honestly.
