“Ahhh fuck!” I growled, then finally opened my eyes to look down at the wicked blade piercing my flesh. It was tilted to allow the blood to run from my wound into the glass bottle. It was darker than what human blood looked like. It must be the blood of the Agoto. “Will this… this kill… me…?” It hurt to talk, hell, it hurt to even try to think straight.
“No, I have not pierced your Agoto deep enough to kill it, but I can tell it is fighting against the spell I cast to keep you here. It wants to teleport you to a safer place,” Vahiel said.
That must have been the other thing I’d been feeling, like my soul wanted to leave my body, and that was painful too. I didn’t even know he’d casted a spell. Vahiel was one amazing demon. I breathed a sigh of relief when he pulled the knife from my chest. Isabella released me and I collapsed on my side, holding my hand to my wound. I knew I would heal fast, but the agony was still there until it did.
I looked at Vahiel as he had his back to me at the table, mixing whatever potions and shit he needed for his spell. I just hoped and prayed it worked. “What… else do you… need from me?” I asked, wanting to do everything within my power to save my mates.
“Nothing, for now,” Vahiel said, tossing me a look over his shoulder.
There was a crackle in the air that sent an electric shock through me, and when my body stopped humming, I looked up to see Nasini had teleported inside.
“Where is he?” she asked, and Vahiel pointed to the sofa where Ade was laying with Isabella by his side. Nasini ran over to him, her beautiful face contorted with worry. I bet she had never felt such concern in… hell, god knows how long. She was ancient, and the three of them had been together for centuries. To lose Ade… I couldn’t even imagine what would happen to them. What would happen to any of us if we lost our mates. “How did this happen?” she asked to no one in particular.
Vahiel walked toward her, knife and bottle in hand. “The shamans casted a Dephlin spell. Are you ready?”
She nodded and rose to stand before him, exposing her breast. I wasn’t much for lady parts, but Brian would no doubt love to wrap his lips around those mounds. I let my gaze drift to the man in question, my Brian, and my frown deepened. Please live, baby boy.
“Do whatever you can to save him,” Nasini said before bracing for the blow.
Vahiel nodded, then stabbed her even harder than he had struck me, and she didn’t even budge. She did gasp, though, so that was something, I guessed. The blood that filled the bottle was darker than my own, almost black. He took what he needed and when he pulled the blade out, Nasini fell to one knee, but Isabella was right there at her side. Comforting her and neither woman left Ade’s side.
I wanted to ask so many questions, but didn’t want to interfere with Vahiel’s concentration. The questions could come later once they survived this fucking Devil’s curse, which was the translation for Dephlin. I walked back over to the sofa where my mates were and sat on the floor beside them. They looked to be in bad shape; sweat glistened all over their bodies as they shook from the ravages of the curse. I couldn’t imagine what they must have been feeling to have their souls attacked. By the look of anguish on their faces, I knew it had to have been unbearable.
“Will their souls be restored, Vahiel?” Lord Nasini asked.
“I’m going to heal Brian first, as he is the youngest and, therefore, in the most danger,” Vahiel said. I moved out of the way as he approached with this vicious looking syringe. The needle itself was thick like one of the first damn syringes ever invented before they learned how to not rupture a vein just to draw blood. Inside of it was the potion he’d mixed using my blood. It was gold in color and looked to be pretty thick as it churned inside the syringe. He straddled Brian’s body, then raised his hands above his head and came down with a powerful blow.
God, I hoped this worked.
CHAPTER TWO
Brian
Darkness, that was all I saw, but I felt so much more. Like my soul was being ripped to shreds and there wasn’t anything I could do to stop the torment. I screamed, but could only hear silence. I tried to move my limbs, but they felt too heavy and wouldn’t budge. What was happening to me? Was I dying? I didn’t want to die.
Suddenly, I felt it. Pain shooting deep inside my chest, followed by what felt like lava flowing into my heart. I screamed again, but this time, I could move as I sat up gasping for air and mercy. My eyes opened, then shut quickly as the room was too bright and the weight on top of me kept me from running to a darker place.
“Brian, it’s all right, you’re going to be okay,” a voice was telling me, but I couldn’t make anything register. I was still trapped by the molten lava working its way through every cell of my being. I screamed again and felt more arms holding me down as I thrashed. I tried to do anything to get away from the pain, but it was inside of me. It felt as if the lava was fighting the pain that was already inside of me. Like two warring beasts battling for what was left of me. God, it hurt so much!
“What the fuck is happening to him?” I heard another voice say, and it sounded very familiar to me. Was it… was it Andre?
“His body has to fight off the spell that was cast. The potion I gave him is giving him the strength to reclaim his soul,” Vahiel stated. “Isabella, you should get them someone to feed on. They will be ravenous if they pull through.”
I heard the words, but they didn’t make sense to me. The only thing I could focus on was trying to survive whatever the hell was happening to me. I didn’t know how much time had passed before the agony I’d been feeling began to drift away and the pounding of my heart started to calm. My eyes were still closed, but I felt a gentle brushing of my hair, so soothing, coaxing me to look up. Isabella, that was who was stroking my hair.
“You’re all right now, Brian. We need to save Raphael,” she said, then turned away from me.
I blinked several times, trying to get my bearings, because I still didn’t know what the fuck was going on. I sat up and was immediately wrapped in strong arms as Andre embraced me. I guessed I had heard correctly when I thought I heard him talking to me.
“Holy shit, that was rough.” He pulled back and held my arms as he studied my face. “Are you all right?”
I nodded. “I think so. I just feel weak… I’m starving,” I said. I could feel the hunger gnawing at my insides with an aggression I didn’t think I’d ever felt before. My Agoto wanted a soul… several souls, as a matter of fact. I heard Vahiel say a chant, then felt an electrical charge flow through me and I knew he was doing something with the wards he’d set up.
“I’ve made it so that only you two can leave and return. Andre, Isabella, go now… they will need to feed,” Vahiel ordered, and I watched as he walked past the sofa I was on to one where Raphael lay just as helpless as I must have been. “Nasini, I need you here to hold him.”
Neither Andre nor Isabella gave any protest and both vanished to fulfill the command Vahiel had given. Sometimes, I forgot he was a lord, because he didn’t really… I guess… lord it over us lesser demons. But when he meant business, you would be a fool to take it lightly. I didn’t really know how old Nasini was, at least two thousand, I thought, but she didn’t hesitate when he told her to help him. She left Ade’s side to place her hands on Raphael’s shoulders, bracing him.
“Uggh,” I groaned as not only my stomach growled with hunger, but it felt like my entire body was famished. I was literally shaking from the lack of sustenance. I tried to rise from the sofa, but the room took a quick tilt and spin, and my legs turned to jelly right before I fell on my ass back onto the cushions.
“Don’t try to stand up, Brian. You need time to heal. Just lay or sit there,” Vahiel said as he straddled Raphael’s body.
I nodded and watched as Vahiel plunged a horrible looking syringe deep into Raphael’s exposed chest. It looked so painful, I winced and grabbed my own chest and looked down to see a tiny hole right over where my heart was. It was healing, but at least now I knew why it
was there. Raphael arched on the sofa, his mouth agape as he moaned a sound so mournful, it made me want to cry to know that he was in that much pain.
Nasini was holding him down as Vahiel emptied the syringe into his body and, as he did so, he chanted something in our ancient demonic language. When he pulled the syringe out, Raphael screamed and the windows shook from the vibration his powerful voice had caused. I wanted to run to him, to hold him and kiss him, but I couldn’t because my body still hadn’t recovered from whatever the hell had happened to me. All I could do was look on as Vahiel continued to straddle him and keep him from thrashing too much.
“Ahhh,” Raphael moaned loudly, his body shivering as he fought to live. If what happened to him was the same thing that had happened to me, then I knew how much pain he was going through, and the struggle.
I couldn’t take my eyes off him as he suffered. “Please, God, let him live,” I silently prayed in a whisper. I knew it was weird or even sacrilegious for a demon to pray to God, but I was still very human in my own mind. And the fact that I wanted to do as much good as I could, I still felt like my existence wasn’t godless. If Raphael survived, then that was just further proof that demons/human hybrids weren’t, I figured, forsaken would be the best word.
Vahiel climbed off Raphael, then walked back over to the table that held a lot of his potions, powders, and whatever the hell else on it. “He’ll pull through, Brian. Raphael is one of the most stubborn sons of bitches I’ve known. A true fighter,” he said.
“What’s happening to him? What happened to me?”
“When you and Raphael fed on the souls of those shamans, they cast a final blow spell. It is designed to kill whomever killed them and restore their souls in the bodies of their killers. I was able to stop Ade from feasting entirely on the soul of the shaman whom we fought against. That is why he is in that state, caught in the void, but he will recover just fine because of my spell. I will also use that soul to track down Katashniel,” Vahiel said, then he walked over toward Ade and began rubbing a red paste onto his forehead in the design of a sigil, then he ripped open his shirt and began drawing more sigils on Ade’s chest with the substance.
I winced again when another hunger pang rocketed through my body, making me feel my need to feed all the more intensely. I didn’t know how much longer I’d be able to keep my Agoto in check before it took over my being. I never wanted that to happen, I never wanted to lose control. Just when I was about to start panicking, Andre popped up with four people wearing obvious prison uniforms. He collapsed to one knee and I knew why. Having teleported four people took a lot out of him. Both he and I have only teleported with one person. Hell, I didn’t even know he could do more than two. The fact that he had just showed how strong our triumvirate was.
The four men’s auras were all red, which meant they had sold their souls to demons. I would have no regrets killing them and Andre would have no regrets having led them to their deaths. I wasted no time opening my Agoto up to feed on two souls at the same time. Their red auras flowed into me, filling my entire being with energy and pleasure. My eyes rolled up in my head as my body hummed in ecstasy. This was life; this moment was almost better than sex… almost. I quaked uncontrollably as my pants were flooded with the spunk of my very intense orgasm. I moaned as each wave of pure bliss rippled through me until the sensation faded and I came crashing back down to reality.
I was half laying on the sofa when I opened my eyes to see Andre standing over me. “Feel better?” he asked.
I smiled and nodded. “Much.” I adjusted myself back onto the sofa and laid down, because I was still recovering from everything.
“Thank god,” he said, then knelt beside me and pressed his gorgeous lips to mine. I melted when his tongue entered my mouth. Oh, how I had missed being with him and Raphael. It felt like we’d been apart for forever, even though I knew it had only been a few days. Personally, it was a few days too long in my opinion. I couldn’t wait to be sandwiched between my mates once again, their cocks rubbing the inside of my asshole just the way I loved it. Their hands caressing and possessing me, making me feel cherished… and… desired.
“I’ve missed you,” I said once our kiss was broken.
Andre smiled. “I’ve missed you, too.” He looked over to the other sofa at Raphael. “We both have.”
“What happened?” I asked as I took in his appearance. He was shirtless and still had what looked like ash all over his face. I motioned to his cheek where he wiped some of it away and looked at the residue on his fingertips.
“Oh, yeah… a whole bunch of shit kicked off. I’ll tell you about it later. For now, let’s just wait for Raphael to pull through,” Andre said, then wiped the ash on his pants.
“Okay.” I cranked my head around to look at Raphael and was so relieved when I saw Nasini helping him to sit up. My limbs had regained their strength and I wanted to feel him against me once again. I sat up, then climbed off the sofa with Andre’s help and together, we both went to Raphael. Nasini moved out of the way to give us room to sit on either side of him.
“Are you okay, baby?” I asked him, kissing his temple, not caring that it was sweaty.
He nodded, but didn’t say anything. He looked up at the two remaining humans, his beautiful gray eyes taking on a deadly gaze, one I’d only seen probably three times at the most, like when Raphael was pissed off. And I’d only seen it directed at any demon who tried to harm me. He locked on the humans and threw his head back, feeding on their souls. I quickly unzipped his pants, reaching inside to take his hardening cock out.
“Are you going to suck his dick right now?” Andre asked.
“I wasn’t… I just didn’t want him to ruin his pants like I did. But now that you’ve mentioned it.” I leaned down, taking Raphael’s cock into my mouth. I could feel Raphael stiffen and his cock grew harder in my mouth as I sucked and bobbed. I wanted to give him as much pleasure as I could and combined with his feeding, I knew he was going to blow one hell of a load. It didn’t take long, not with the combined souls, for Raphael to cum. He released a ferocious growl as his balls emptied into my mouth. The sound was primal and sexy as fuck. Spurt after hot, creamy spurt of his cum gushed down my throat and I swallowed gleefully. I loved hearing the sounds he was making and feel him shaking and thrashing against us. I finally released his cock when the last tiniest drop slid from his slit. I licked him clean, then placed his softening cock back inside his pants.
“Holy… fuck,” Raphael panted. A veil seemed to lift from his eyes as he focused his gaze on me, then Andre. “I’m glad you are both alive.”
“Me too,” I said with a sigh. I still didn’t know how close to death I had been, but I knew I had been knocking on the motherfucker’s door and that was enough for me to count my blessings.
“Vahiel saved you. He’s trying to save Ade now,” Andre said, then nodded toward the sofa where Ade lay.
We all turned to look and I saw Nasini sitting on the sofa, Ade’s head resting in her lap as Vahiel worked his spell. Again, he was chanting something and Ade’s body was responding. Sweat poured from him like a river and he shook as if suffering the worst kind of fever. Everything had happened so fast, I was still confused. Really, the last thing I remembered was killing that shaman. I wondered where Dakkar had gone. Or Oria, since she had been with Raphael the whole time.
I kept quiet as Vahiel worked to save Ade with a few more ancient demonic words, then Ade shot upright, his eyes wide open. His body lurched and Vahiel held a jar in front of him. Ade gagged several times until the white soul of the demon he’d ingested came flowing out of his mouth and into the jar. I didn’t think it was possible for us to be able to puke up a soul, but I figured Vahiel knew a trick or two.
Once the soul was completely inside the jar, Vahiel capped it, locking it in. Ade, on the other hand, groaned and gagged again, but this time, nothing came up. Nasini was so compassionate as she caressed his face, kissing his cheek. No doubt, they’d been together for
at least fifteen hundred years from what I’d gathered. Their bond was stronger than titanium.
“It’s okay, my love, you’re alive, you’re with me,” I heard her say.
Ade nodded and took hold of her arm that was holding him as a comforting gesture. I’d never seen either of them look so vulnerable, but I guessed those shamans had been stronger than we gave them credit for. If they could bring down Agotos, no wonder they had been powerful enough to shield Katashniel.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Isabella pop up with four demons. She thrusted them all forward toward Ade, and he immediately began to feed on their souls. The two humans had been enough to satisfy my Agoto’s hunger, and Raphael’s too, but I guessed when you were as powerful as Ade, two humans just wouldn’t do. I watched with keen interest as Ade indulged in his orgasm. Yeah, he was sexy as fuck. But totally off limits, I got that much from Nasini’s warning glare after she caught me looking.
It was cool, I had all the men I could ever need in my mates. I was just looking because hell, I could. Isabella kissed Ade once he was back in good shape. Then she took her place beside him on the sofa.
Nasini looked at Vahiel. “What happened?” She asked the question we all wanted to know the answer to.
Vahiel took a seat in one of his very comfy chairs and crossed one leg over the other. “While battling the shaman Gregor, I had weakened him enough for Ade to finish him off. Gregor was very powerful, a lieutenant, which is why the spell he casted was linked to the other shamans. So, when they fell, their souls would kill their killers. After Ade had passed out once the soul had been absorbed, I casted my own spell to prevent his Agoto from fully digesting it. That is why he wasn’t in as dire a strait as Brian and Raphael.”
“So, how did you save us?” I asked.
His electric blue eyes panned to me and I had to marvel at how gorgeous Vahiel was. Then I remembered Dakkar telling me how vain he was and why he hadn’t procreated. In any case, he was a demon who had a presence, that was for sure.
