“I’m sorry about all that. I usually don’t get that messed up,” she told him again, still feeling bad about how she acted last night.

“It’s all good. Just make sure you let me know before you and your loud ass cousin go out like that again. I can’t have you out there like that, especially not with you destined to become my wife in a few years,” he told her.

She almost laughed until she looked up and saw that he was serious.

“Hold up, what do you mean future? You basically told me you were gonna kill any nigga that I would try to get with, so I figured we were together now,” she told him, looking confused.

“Nah, not quite yet,” he said.

“Maybe you should break whatever this is that we are down for me. I need to know what’s really going on,” Lawrynn said and sat up.

“This is how it is. We’re just trying to get to know each other right now. I know I’m not much of a talker, so it’ll take some time to really know me. You can go on dates and cake on the phone, but that’s it. No kissing, fucking, licking, sucking, or rubbing needs to go on. He can only touch ya hand if it’s in plain sight. If any of that other shit goes on, I’m killing him right in front of you. I don’t give a fuck where y’all are, that nigga’s life is over. During this time, if I call and you don’t answer, I’m popping up on you wherever you are, no bullshit,” he told her.

“So, you’re gonna have the same set of rules then, right?” she asked.

“Hell nah, I’m gonna get head every now and then. A nigga like me has to get a nut at least three times a week. I’m not gonna be fucking nobody, though,” he said with no emotion.

“Wait a minute. How does that even sound normal to you? If you can get head, then I should be able to. That sounds lopsided as fuck to me.”

“It’s not, though. I’m trying to save you from going crazy.”

“Please explain that shit to me.”

“If I put this dick in your life too early, you gonna flip out on me. I want you to fall in love with me and not my deep strokes. So, we have to work our way up to that. This shit has been known to have females wanting to take their own lives if they can’t get it anymore. Just know that I’m a nigga of my word. I’m not gonna lie to you about shit. Once we make shit official, there ain’t no breaking up. Real shit, if you want, we can wait to fuck until we get married. Oh yeah, I need you to start taking some Yoga classes and drinking more water. I’ve been thinking of some shit that I want to do to you. I need you to be flexible though, real fucking flexible,” Murder said with a big ass smile on his face.

“What if something happens and I don’t want to do this with you anymore?” she asked.

“Not gonna happen. Next question,” he quickly said.

“You know Pain is gonna have a problem with this, right?”

“That nigga can’t beat my ass. He loves his life too much to even try to come at you sideways.”

  “You’re really crazy, huh?”

“People say I’m crazy, but I’m not. I just see shit the way it’s supposed to be and move around accordingly. I don’t have time for games or bullshit. I don’t play with my time, money, or my future wife.”

“What if us getting together messes up you and his relationship?”

“You’re really concerned about this nigga. You do understand that he fucked other bitches the whole time y’all were together, right? Even now, he’s trying to play mad about me snagging you, but he at home with your hoe ass cousin. Oh yeah, how is it he’s played you for her and you didn’t fuck either of them up?”

Murder had always wondered when Lawrynn was gonna pop up and kick Pain’s ass. He damn sure deserved it, but she never did.

“Even though I never had any proof or even an obvious reason to think he was out there creeping, I knew deep down that he was. When he left the note, I never tried to find out the reason behind it. I just didn’t care enough. I always told Nell if anybody takes my man, he was never mine. It’s not like it was a secret that she’s a hoe. She’s always been the chick to try to get someone else’s man just to say she could. It pissed me off, but it didn’t make me mad enough to fight about it either,” she told him.

Murder laughed because he knew for sure that his homie only fucked with hoes because they were the easiest to slide in.

“Yeah, that nigga damn sure didn’t fuck you right,” he said to her.

“I’m not one to fight over a nigga. I haven’t met a nigga yet who I was so in love with or whatever that would make me act out in public or private,” she told him, sounding confident in her words.

“Oh, yes you have. You just haven’t had the dick from him yet, Law Baby, but you will soon enough,” he told her.

Lawrynn just shook her head at him and how fucking cocky he was.

  Chapter 7

A week had passed since Law Baby chilled at Murder’s house. They had talked and FaceTimed every day since then. Now, he was in the back of the barbershop going over the books for the various businesses he owned. It was crazy because even though Murder had never touched a drug in his life, he was responsible for the transport of the purest heroine that Virginia had ever seen. The thing no one ever knew was that his connect was his uncle. His Uncle Jimmy had seen some of his own boss like qualities in his nephew at a young age.

Being that Murder’s father was killed before Murder reached the age of thirteen, Uncle Jimmy took Murder under his wing, and it was a wrap from there. His Uncle started taking him everywhere with him when Murder wasn’t in school. He would always tell Murder, if you talk too much, then you’ll never be able to learn anything. That was the main reason Murder was as quiet as he was today. He learned how to pay attention to actions. His uncle was sure to have Murder read books on how to read people. He had read books on profiling and detecting lies in people as well.

“When is the next transport coming up? I have to get to the doctor with Nikki’s hoe ass?” Pain said to his friend.

“Don’t worry about it. I got it covered. I know you’re trying to do the family thing with old girl, and you can’t build a family if you’re on the go all the time. Chill out for a couple of weeks. This shit ain’t going nowhere for real. You will have plenty of work to do when you get back,” Murder told him.

Murder’s phone rang before Pain could say anything. Instead of Pain walking out when Murder answered the phone, he just stood there. Murder had peeped his face balling up when he answered the phone.

“Hey, Law Baby, what’s going on?” he said.

He was sure to put the phone on speaker, just so he could see how Pain was going to react to this conversation. Murder thought about changing up the conversation, but that thought went as quick as it came. If he wanted to stand there, he was gonna get the raw and uncut version of the conversation. He turned to his computer like he was doing something on it, but the whole time, he was watching Pain.

“You know I have a date tonight, right?” Lawrynn asked.

“Oh yeah, is that shit tonight? Where y’all going?” he asked.

“I don’t know. I don’t want to go for real,” Lawrynn whined.

“We already talked about this. You need to get out and see that all niggas ain’t fuck boys. I’m saying, you already know that all niggas ain’t me. Go on your little date or whatever. You know the rules already. Make sure that scrub opens the door for you and shit like that too. You’re a fucking queen, make his bitch ass treat you like one,” Murder said.

“You get on my nerves,” Lawrynn said and laughed.

“Make sure you don’t wear no fucking boy shorts or thong tonight, either. I’m the only one who gets to see those motherfuckers,” he said, trying not to laugh at the fact that Pain was still standing there.

“I’m coming to your house tonight afterward. I don’t have to work for the next three days, so you know what time it is, Maurice,” she said, calling him by his first name.

“Aye, cut that shit out.” He chuckled at her calling him by his government.

/>   She laughed just like she always did when he told her to cut something out. He loved to hear her laugh, so he found himself saying it more and more.

“What are you gonna do while I’m on my boring ass date?” she asked.

“Yo, Murder, I’m out,” Pain said, just so Lawrynn could hear that he was in the room.

Murder smirked because he knew that Pain was eventually going to do some bitch shit like that.

The more days that passed, the more Pain showed a side of him that Murder had never seen before. He was getting more and more cautious around the man that was supposed to be more like a brother to him than a friend.

“Really, Murder? You had me on speaker this whole time? What was the point of that?” she fussed before ending the call.

Murder knew that Lawrynn was mad, but she wouldn’t be for long. Pain did that shit on purpose, but Lawrynn being mad over this petty shit was a small thing to a giant in Murder’s mind. He’d let her feel all accomplished and shit with her little hang up. He shut down his computer to leave for the day. Instead of chilling, he would have to show his ass tonight. He really wanted Lawrynn to get out and see how it was to entertain other niggas just because she wasn’t that experienced or to say it in a better way, she didn’t have variety.

When they did get together, Murder didn’t want her to feel like she was missing out on something and start cheating. He was killing two birds with one stone.

He started smiling when he saw that Pain’s bitch ass was still out front talking to some guys. Walking out as if everything was cool as a fan, he dapped up everybody, and then he stood back with his hands in his pockets for a few minutes and waited for Pain to get comfortable enough to think everything was okay. Right when Pain was in the middle of a laugh, Murder came out of nowhere with a fist to Pain’s jaw.

“OH SHIT!” a few of the guys shouted.

Murder was ready for Pain to swing back at him, so it wasn’t a surprise when he was hit in his jaw. The hit wasn’t hard enough to cause Murder to stumble. In fact, it only made him smirk. The fellas stepped between the two before either of them could swing on the other again.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, nigga? What the hell you hit me for?” Pain said as he was held back.

“I never thought you would act like a bitch. That shit you pulled back there was some shit a bitch would do. Just know the shit ain’t work, mother fucker,” Murder yelled as he tried to get to Pain.

“What the fuck, man? Y’all supposed to be brothers,” one of the guys said.

“Brothers don’t try to get with the woman you love. Fuck that nigga. He calling me a bitch, but he’s the bitch. Lawrynn supposed to be off fucking limits, and you know it,” Pain said.

The more he thought about the fact that his so-called best friend was trying to fight him over Lawrynn. he got pissed all over again. This was his best fucking friend. How could Murder feel like the shit he did was right? Pain knew he had done some fucked up shit in his day, but he would never do this to Murder.

“Why her of all the chicks you could get with? Why the fuck it have to be her?” Pain barked.

“You already know why. I told you what the deal was, you told me to shoot my fucking shot, remember? Now you wanna act all big mad and shit because I’m wifing her. She was too good for your ass in the first damn place. Just be glad I didn’t swoop in and take her off your hands when I first met her,” Murder argued back.

“That’s fucked up, and you know it,” Pain replied.

“Not as fucked up as the shit you put her through. Just let the shit go, man,” Murder told him.

“Fuck you, I ain’t letting shit go. You gonna let her come between us like this? You’re my fucking brother,” Pain said.

“She’s not doing shit. It’s all you doing this. You’ve got a hoe to go home to. Leave me and my lady alone. I don’t want to go to war with you, but make no mistake about it. Over Law Baby, I’ll go toe to toe with Zeus, God, Pharaoh, Moses, and the devil. What’s your next move?” Murder said to Pain before walking away.

Pain knew he should probably leave all this shit alone. He was the one who didn’t love Lawrynn the right way when he had her. Thinking about the baby he had on the way with Lawrynn’s cousin, he realized that he was the one who fucked up. Not only did he lose the woman he loved, but he was on the verge of losing his closest friend as well.

  Chapter 8

Lawrynn was so pissed she could feel the heat emitting from her skin. She could honestly say that until now, she thought that Murder actually wanted her with no ill intentions. After that phone call, she was felt like a pawn in a dumb ass beef between two guys. Just when she was starting to like Murder, this had to happen. She blocked his cell number and the number to the barbershop that he sometimes called her from. Deciding right then that maybe it was best if she stayed single, she took a few Tylenol for her headache before getting ready for her date tonight. Hopefully, her date wouldn’t make her think any worse of men than she already did.

Looking at the clock, Lawrynn knew she had to get ready for her date. She said a silent prayer for her night to go smoothly before she got in the shower. The heat of the water helped her mind relax. She didn’t understand why Murder keeping her on speaker phone for Pain to hear bothered her so much. Not wanting to keep thinking about them or whatever ‘whose dick is bigger contest’ that they had going on, she ignored her thoughts of both men. Just as she was walking into her bedroom, her phone rang.

  “Hello,” she answered.

“Lawrynn, I have to cancel our date tonight,” Roy, her intended date told her. She could hear the nervousness in his voice.

“Roy, are you alright? You sound funny,” she told him.

“He’s nervous because my gun is in his face. What the fuck you blocking me for?” she heard Murder ask.

“What the hell are you doing with Roy?”

“I had to call you from some damn where since you wanna block my ass. Unblock my number Lawrynn,” Murder told her.

“What did you do to him? How the hell do you even know him? Is he one of your friends? Did you pay him to take me out, Maurice?” she asked quickly.

“Slow ya words down. No, I don’t know his ass. What the hell I look like knowing his lame ass? I ain’t answering all that other shit. But, for real though, why do you even feel like I would have to pay somebody to take you on a date? I keep telling you those other niggas you were dealing with are just hoes looking for any and every pussy to fall into. Them cheating has nothing to do with you. You’re fucking perfect,” Murder told her.

“How do you know where Roy lives?” she asked.

“More fucking questions, man. Okay, look, when you told me about the date, I found who he was and had him checked out. I couldn’t have you going out with a killer or a sex trade scouter, or even somebody’s husband. I had to make sure he was on the up and up,” Murder said.

“I don’t understand you. Why go through all of this just to say you bagged your best friend’s ex?”

“He don’t have shit to do with none of what we have going on. You really think I’m doing all this behind some petty bullshit? I’m doing this for one reason, and one reason only. I want you, and only you. I’ve waited long enough to explore what we could have. That little bit of time I held you in my arms ruined me for all the other bitches out here,” Murder told her.

“Maurice, what are you talking about? You’ve never held me,” she said, sounding confused. She didn’t remember meeting Murder before Pain, so what was he talking about?

“That’s why you don’t need to drink when you go out. Do you remember the night at the club when we first met?” He asked. When she didn’t reply, he continued. “Before Pain saw you, you were on the dance floor alone until a guy came up behind you. Y’all danced for a few songs back to back. He told you that you smelled…”

“Delicious,” she said before he could. “That was you?”

  “Yeah,” he answered.

  “Why didn’t you sa
y anything before now?”

“Unblock me before I get to your house. I’m not gonna sit here and talk about this shit on this man’s phone. I’m on my way, and I better be unblocked by the time I get there, Lawrynn,” Murder said before ending the call.

Lawrynn sat on her bed thinking about what Murder had just told her. She remembered the night he was talking about. She had dreamed of that night more times than she wanted to count. The fact that she never turned around to look the man in the eye who had her stomach filled with butterflies and her panties creamed let her imagination run wild. She would turn around in her dreams to see a different man every time.

The first thing she did when she realized that he was coming over to talk about that night and more was to unblock him. They didn’t need an argument right now because she had some questions for him; a lot of questions. Her mind was going in circles as she got dressed. As she threw on a pair of gray sweats and a t-shirt, she started to get nervous about what was going to happen when Murder finally got there.

Hearing the doorbell, she took a deep breath and opened the door. She said nothing but stepped to the side to let Murder come in. Once the door was closed, her first question came to the forefront.

“Why didn’t you ever say anything about that night?” she asked as soon as she closed the door.

“What the fuck was I supposed to say? You acted like you were so happy with Pain. I didn’t want to fuck that up for you. Regardless of what we felt between us that one night, you were still my bro’s old lady,” he answered.

“Is that why you acted like you hated me when you came around?”

“He didn’t deserve you. He was playing you the whole fucking time. I told him to chill with that shit or let you go but, but he never did. I was surprised when you told me what went down with y’all that day, to be honest. I didn’t see that shit coming. Even though he wasn’t shit, I knew you were hurt by what he did,” Murder told her.
