His warm hand covered mine and when I looked at him, he smiled kindly. “Your past doesn’t matter to me, Kiara. I hope you know that I’ll always be willing to hear you out.”

“Thank you, Liam, that really means a lot,” I said. He was so pure and sweet. His hazel brown eyes burned with compassion, kindness, and so much love.

“I would like to take you out sometime. Although I’d love to have the children accompany us, I want to do something just for the two of us. You and me.”

I giggled. “That would be nice.”

And just like that, when he leaned in, my eyes fluttered closed. He kissed me, open mouthed, and fiercely, like he’d wanted to kiss me like that for ages. It’d been a long time since I kissed a man and this felt so good, especially when his tongue moved inside my mouth with such expertise. He threw a glance at the door joining the passage that led to the kid’s bedroom and pulled me into his lap possessively. I went to him willingly.

He was lonely and so was I. His jawline was rough against my palm and I liked it. He raised my t-shirt, unbuckled my bra and palmed my breast; his hands were bold on my body. His mouth moved to my throat as he rained sloppy kisses there.

  “Liam…”

I heard a low growl deep from his throat.

He’d pulled my dress up, unbuttoned his jeans and entered slowly inside me. There was something so naughty about having sex with the fear of having being caught, but I knew Tyler and Maya never woke up in the middle of the night. It took me a while to accommodate Liam since he was thick and long. I felt a twinge of guilt as that reminded me of Jasper. His hazel-brown eyes looked so lovely, like gold Champagne. We moved together in rhythm. He drove into me with a severe passion like there was no other woman in this world other than me.

  “My sweet, sweet Kiara.”

  Epilogue

  Jasper

It happened a year ago, and I could still remember how the car rammed into the pole, and the way it trigged the airbags which deflated into my face. My head pounded against the leather seat. The roaring crash of the metal followed by the shattering of the windshield; the sounds rang in my ears to this day. I’d been lucky enough to survive such a bad accident, but the man on the driving seat, not so much. He lay back against the seat with his eyes and mouth wide open, blood trailing down his chin. I reached for the door handle and threw my body against the ground which is when I noticed the car engine catching fire.

I’d gathered all my energy and climbed to my feet, dragging my bad foot as far away from the car as I could get. I watched from the bushes as the car went into flames.

I’d gotten out of there before the police could make it. Laying low was fairly easy, ditching my fancy lifestyle wasn’t. Vince sealed most of the bank accounts, but he hadn’t a clue about one account that I’d kept a secret and few other ones deposited overseas under an alias which made the transactions smooth. I had enough money that would sustain me for a lifetime; enough to live a billionaire life, but of course, I had to be careful.

Jasper Lockhart was dead to the world.

And I planned on keeping it that way.

“Mr. Liam Price?” The secretary peered into the waiting room at me with a smile. “Dr. Becker is waiting for you, sir.”

  ***

The surgery took four hours to complete. A whole month was needed for my total recovery, and it had been a few months since then. I looked at myself in the mirror and saw a different person. My jawline, although sharp, looked different than before. My nose was longer and my cheekbones were more prominent. Anyone who knew Jasper Lockhart wouldn’t be able to tell the similarities if they met Liam Price. While Jasper’s hair was dark raven, Liam had honey blonde. The stormy blue eyes used to be a dead giveaway. Liam had a solution for that too.

I pulled a tiny case of contact lenses from the glove compartment of the car and popped the hazel brown contacts into my eyes. Whenever I visited a bar, I still had women flocking around me like I were a Michael Angelo’s sculpture come to life. While Jasper had brooding, dark looks, Liam was as good-looking, but had a friendlier air to him. He was fun and goofy, and of course, brutally honest to a fault. I walked into the crowded bar. The weekend crowd was already here. Sweaty bodies were dancing on the floor, while the quiet ones sat near the bar, sipping their drinks and enjoying watching people.

“Liam, how are you doing, buddy?” Otis Green patted my back with his beefy hand. He was the owner of the bar and had been hounding me to invest in a lake side resort.

  “Never better,” I said.

To the townies, Liam Price was a handsome single bachelor, orphaned when his parents died in a crash, never married and was now sole proprietor of the wealth his parents had left him. To them, Liam was also very kind, the one who helped old ladies cross roads and always spoke to everyone with respect. Town wives eyed Liam with obvious adoration, single women wanted him in bed, and old ones liked talking to him for hours.

  Liam was a good man.

It was fun to sit alone in the little Villa and laugh at the stupid people. No matter how many women threw themselves at Liam, he’d sworn to love only one ,and that made the ladies melt into a puddle and wish I were their husband. I hadn’t moved into Archmount Valley just because I liked their secluded town or the scenery. I’d moved for completely different reasons.

I was parked in the shadows. I watched from my binoculars as the woman entered the bar in a silk blue blouse and denims that hugged her curves deliciously. My cock sprang to life just thinking of her underneath me. I’d watched her for days and nights on end. Since I had the money rolling in, I didn’t have to worry about meetings and such.

  The excitement was real.

  The thrill was real.

It wasn’t unknown to the townies how within a few months of moving into Archmount Valley that Liam had started to take notice of the widow, Mrs. Kiara Lockhart. He’d known she had a son, Tyler who was five, and a daughter Maya, one, who was also a splitting image of her late husband. Kiara enjoyed Liam’s company. They were great friends. Liam visited them on the weekends, brought the children gifts, and played with her son.

Unlike Jasper, Liam was a patient man and that’s what Kiara liked about him. She would also confide in him as friends and tell Liam everything she’d endured in her previous marriage. Like a good friend, Liam always listened to her.

It was about time, but Liam could sense she’d lost her heart to him. He’d been inside her, and the way Kiara had reacted when he’d fucked her was proof enough. She was hungry for the cock as much as he was dying to taste that pussy.

I sighed. It was a wonderful story and a very convenient way to get back my family. I grinned.

I ran a hand through my hair, straightened my shirt, and doused myself in perfume before entering the bar. I spotted Kiara at once. She was as beautiful as ever. Her dark hair was longer than before. A literal goddess, her body was meant only for one person. Me.

I placed my hands over her eyes and heard her giggle as she caught my hands. “Liam.”

I spun her around and kissed her full on her lips. I was making this official, and if it wasn’t official, well, the people in the bar could certainly see it that way. She looked at me so lovingly. If I had the same old face, she would have been disgusted. Right now, her eyes shone only with admiration.

“I thought I was late for our date and made you wait,” she said.

“For you, I’d wait a lifetime, Kiara,” I said. My own voice sometimes sounded alien to me. My voice sounded deeper than before due to the voice-altering surgery I’d gone through a few weeks back. I couldn’t take the risk of Kiara recognizing the voice, and so even when the doctor had mentioned the risk I was taking, I still went ahead with it. Just to be on the safer side, I’d changed my accent a little bit too.

She passed me her genuine smile, one that reached her eyes. I made sure I didn’t call her precious. It would have been a dead giveaway, not to mention the extra drama about how much that reminded her of her ex-husband.<

She shook her head. My hand slid to her bottom as I passed her my boy-next-door-smile. I squeezed her ass gently, leaned in and said. “Can’t wait to take you home and fuck you until I blow your mind, Mrs. Lockhart.”

  She laughed.

  “Why are you laughing?”

She shook her head, the laughter still clear in her eyes. “I hope you don’t mind me saying this, Liam, but sometimes your bluntness reminds me of him.”

I froze. “Does it?” I tried to play discreet. I needed to control the words that tumbled out of my mouth. Liam didn’t fuck, he made love.

“But, I know that you’re not him. You’re far better than any person I’ve ever met. I’m so lucky to have met you, Liam,” she said, pulling me a friendly hug.

“Likewise, baby. Now that I have you, I will never let you go.” I tightened my arms around her, burying my face in her hair and smelling the familiar scent of peaches and lime. I was home. “Not ever.”

  Chapter 1

  Lou

Rain gushed over me as I sped down the streets after spending all day in Newcastle with my best friend, Alyssa. I held my leather jacket over my head, trying to avoid getting soaked. Cars rushed past through puddles pooling near the curb, spraying us with a wall of water.

  I groaned.

My drenched hair was sticking to my face and had clung together in a matted mess. At least, my military style boots were keeping my feet dry. I was glad I chose to wear them that day. Frankly, I didn’t think my Converse would have managed to shield me from the unrelenting English weather.

“I hate rain!” I complained as we took another turn.

“You say that every time it rains! I get it! You hate rain!” Alyssa said.

Well, that was easy for her to say because her hair didn’t go all mangled and horrible when it got wet.

Alyssa had been my best friend for years, and she was really pretty, even with her tomboy ways. Actually, scratch that. She was beautiful. Her deep royal blue eyes were framed with long thick eyelashes, and she had golden blonde curls that always fell down her back with random braids in it to give it a punk edge, and she was quite tall. She wasn’t exactly fond of makeup so she didn’t wear any, which made me even more jealous because her complexion was absolutely flawless, apart from a few freckles.

She was practically the exact opposite of my slightly smaller than average height, brunette hair, and murky green eyes, and obviously, a lot prettier.

“That’s just because I hate it so much,” I said under my breath.

“Stop complaining and cross the bloody road, will you?” She rolled her eyes at me.

“Fine,” I huffed, leading the way as I stepped out on to the road.

Like it appeared out of thin air, a sleek black car was driving straight towards me before I could react. Pain suddenly shot through my right leg as the front of the car crashed into me. All I could see was blurring light as my legs were taken out from under me, making me feel weightless for a moment before my back collided with a hard solid surface. I heard the screeching of car wheels and moaned in agony.

This is it. I was going to die. What had I done to deserve such a short life? I didn’t want to die!

Why didn’t I look and see the stupid car coming? It was not like I hadn’t got enough lectures from my mum about road safety. I only had myself to blame.

  “Shit.”

Someone cursed before the shock took its toll on my body and I passed out.

  ***

  I woke up reluctantly.

My head was throbbing, and my whole body ached down to the bone. When I eventually gave in and opened my eyes, they immediately stung from the harsh white light that flooded the room. I let them adjust for a moment before realising I was in a bland hospital room and that my mum had fallen asleep in a chair next to my bed.

I scanned my body, checking for any serious damage. Thankfully, it just seemed to be minor injuries, just a few cuts here and there. I felt a slight twinge in my stomach, so I lifted my hospital gown to reveal an ugly black and blue bruise on my abdomen.

I tried to push myself up into a sitting position but my arms felt like jelly, and I instantly collapsed with exhaustion. I sighed with frustration as I fell back on to my bed.

“Lou?” my mum croaked, looking up at me with swollen red eyes. “You’re awake!” she exclaimed happily, and I winced as the loud pitch of her voice sliced through my pounding head.

“My head hurts,” I complained, confused.

Images of the car suddenly hitting into me flew into my mind as I remembered what happened.

I felt the need to clarify my suspicion. “Wait. Did I get run over?”

“Yeah, hun, but Dr. Hampshaw said you only have a few cuts and bruises but nothing too serious.” She smiled weakly as she held my hand, giving it a supportive squeeze before looking at me sympathetically. “Your leg is badly sprained though. I wouldn’t try to move it if I were you.”

“Thank God.” I breathed out in relief.

I tried to move my legs as I sat up and hissed when pain surged through my right leg.

  Ugh. Lovely.

“You’re awake!” I heard Alyssa shout as she rushed into the room looking distressed. Her eyes were also puffy and bloodshot with dark circles lurking beneath them. “Are you okay?”

“I’m alive.” I laughed but stopped as pain shot through my ribs.

“I’ll leave you two to talk, okay?” My mum smiled. “I need to talk to your dad about this.”

I nodded, even though I really didn’t want her to bother with calling my dad. He wouldn’t care anyway.

  “Okay.”

My mum left the room, closing the door with a soft click as Alyssa sat down in her chair.

“I got you something,” she said as she wiggled her eyebrows.

  “You did?”

“You don’t even believe me!” She frowned but it soon morphed into a grin. “Fine. I’ll just have to eat it then.”

“Eat?” My mouth was suddenly watering as I realised how hungry I was.

I watched curiously as she reached down into her bag and took out a paper bag. She dived in and revealed a doughnut. My stomach rejoiced with a loud roar.

  “You brought me a doughnut!”

“Correction. I brought you a custard doughnut.”

“Really?!” I burst out in excitement.

It was my favourite dessert, okay?

“Yep. It’s a shame you didn’t believe me, and I have to eat it now…”

  “You don’t even like custard!”

  “I do now.”

“You’re stealing food from an injured person!”

“I haven’t even given it to you yet so how is that stealing? And I bought it!”

  “Just give me the doughnut.”

  “No,” she said.

  “Please?”

  “No.”

  “It’s rightfully mine!”

  “Yeah right!”

  “Please!” I begged.

  “No.”

“Not even with a cherry on top?”

“Not even with a cherry on top.”

  “Alyssa,” I whined.

“I’ll get you a coffee, okay?” She laughed. “I’ll be right back.”

  “Lyssa!”

I scowled as she left with my doughnut.

Typical. She buys me a doughnut then she won’t even give me the damn thing!

Crossing my arms over my chest, I huffed through my nose in disappointment. This hospital bedding kept sticking to my legs, and I fidgeted continuously, kicking my legs—or leg to avoid any more injury—in an attempt to lessen my discomfort, but ultimately gave up. My face
pressed into the pillow, and I puffed out a sigh.

Two thumps pounded on the door, and my head whipped towards it. It was a simple sound, but it almost gave me a heart attack because of fright.

  “Come in!” I said.

Must be Dr. Hampshaw to check up on me or something.

As the person stepped in, time suddenly stopped. I was trapped at that very second as I witnessed the Greek god enter the room. I remembered the clock above the door behind his head.

  5:35 pm.

It was exactly 5:35 pm when I first laid eyes on him, and I’d never forgotten it.

Tousled to perfection, his dark umber hair fell into stylish chaos just below his ears, framing his face and enhancing his strong jawline. He looked like he was in his early twenties with flawless chiseled features and I noticed he had a five o’clock shadow.

I slowly drank in his appearance and nearly fainted when I spotted his obvious muscular build that showed through his smart black suit. Deep chestnut brown eyes glanced over in my direction and immediately narrowed as they landed on me. He pressed his full dark pink lips together as he stormed over to me.

“You ruined my car!” he shouted, and his eyes were practically burning a hole straight through my throbbing skull.

I flinched at his tone. So, he was the person who ran me over.

“I—I…” I couldn’t get my words out from his sudden confrontation.

“Well? What are you going to do about my car? I deserve compensation!”

Something snapped inside me at that moment.

“You’re the one who ran me over! I’m the one who deserves compensation!” I said, ignoring the stabbing pain tearing across my ribs.

His eyes grew wide with a mixture of anger and shock. He looked like I’d just slapped him in the face.

“You deserve compensation? I was just on my way to work when you randomly decided that would be a great time to cross the road! You’re lucky I was driving way under the limit, or you’d be dead!”
