Psycho Billionaire: A Dark Romance

I grew silent as I collected my thoughts. I was to blame. I mean, after all, I was the one who crossed the road without checking for oncoming traffic.

  “I’m sorry.”

I didn’t know what else to say, and even if I did, I didn’t think I could have managed anything more than a simple apology anyway. He sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose for a second before letting out a short laugh, which held no humour. He smiled, but it was bitter.

“You’re sorry? I guess that makes everything okay. My car is going to cost a fortune to get fixed but don’t worry. It’s fine because you said sorry!” he said with a tone dripping with malicious sarcasm.

I jumped at his voice again, and suddenly, the uncomfortable plain white sheets on my bed were much more interesting as I avoided eye contact with the intimidating man before me.

“Cat got your tongue?” he mocked.

My blood reached its boiling point. I clenched my fists and weakly swung my legs around over the side of the bed before I stood up, making sure not to put too much pressure on my sprained leg. I looked at him with disdain.

“You think you’re so great, don’t you? I know for a fact you can probably pay for the damage yourself so why are you insisting I pay for it? Claim on your insurance. Isn’t that what it’s there for?” I said.

He reached the bedside in no more than two large strides and towered over me, his brown eyes staring down at me.

  “It’s called responsibility.”

His voice was calm, and all traces of anger had left his features.

I sighed. He’d got me there.

“This is the quote for the repair cost,” he said as he reached into his breast pocket and handed it to me.

I unfolded the paper, and my heart leaped into my throat as my eyes locked on to the bill at the bottom of the statement. “Look, even if I did want to pay for the damage, there is no way I can get that kind of money.”

He slipped his hands into his pockets casually as he stood there for a moment in thought. Suddenly his expression lit up and he turned to me with amusement dancing in the deep abyss of his eyes, as if he were secretly laughing at his own silent joke.

  “Work for me,” he said.
