  After finding that the aunt and uncle who raised him are safe in Natchez, Bob eventually wends his way back to New Orleans, taking a job at the Happy Cutter and going to the Genuine Magic Shop just three blocks away to ask about Amelia. They reestablish their relationship. He joins his girlfriend when she travels to Bon Temps to renew the wards around Sookie’s house, and he participates in the ceremony to break Sookie’s blood bond with Eric.   Jock (vampire): No last name given. New Fangtasia employee Jock worked for Victor in Reno before moving to Shreveport to tend bar after Felicia’s death. He is there to take up her role as a spy. He is on the job when Bubba sings for Victor and naturally fights on Victor’s side. Although he is emasculated by Indira during the melee, he still manages to stun her with a blow to the head. He is distracted by Sookie before he can continue his attack, giving Indira time to recover and stake him. (Dies DR)

Vampire Jodi breaks off one of fellow vampire Michael’s canines with pliers while he sleeps after he abducts and tortures the sister of one of her human employees. Sued by Michael and brought before vampire judges, including Bill and Dahlia, at the summit, Jodi pleads her case, wins, and is allowed to stake an unrepentant Michael. (ATD)

  Joe: No last name given. Joe works at the Pyramid and calls the rooms to notify them of misplaced luggage that needs to be personally collected. When Sookie tries to read him while she locates a suitcase supposedly belonging to the Louisiana vampire party, she finds that Joe essentially has a metaphysical helmet around his mind, blocking his thoughts.   Johnson, Brock and Chessie: Brock and his wife, Chessie, own the house and upholstery shop next to Tray Dawson’s house and shop. (Mentioned DAG)

  Jonathan (vampire): No last name given. Nevada vampire Jonathan introduces himself to Sookie at the Bellefleur-Vick wedding as a guest of Hamilton Tharp and claims to have dutifully checked in with Area Five sheriff Eric Northman, as protocol demands.

  Josephine’s: Known as Club Dead among the Weres, vampire-owned Josephine’s is located on the outskirts of downtown Jackson, Mississippi, on or near Amite Street. The supes leave their keys in their cars, which then drive away on their own so that the streets in front of the bar are kept deserted. The club is surrounded by an ominous, watchful air; most humans experience a feeling of dread when they approach the door, and if they do get in, they are treated to a costly cover charge, terrible drinks, and poor service. Those who manage to stay soon find themselves on the sidewalk with no memories of leaving the bar.

  The doorman and bouncer is Mr. Hob, a goblin, who treats all strangers with suspicion. The interior of Josephine’s looks a lot like any other bar: dim lighting, low music, glasses suspended on racks over a large square bar surrounded by polished bar stools, a small dance floor and stage just to the left of the bar. The club is run as a neutral ground, with specific rules on how both vampires and shifters are to behave: “No Changing on the Premises,” “No Biting of Any Kind,” “No Live Snacks.” Alcide Herveaux escorts Sookie to Club Dead to gather information on Bill’s whereabouts after his kidnapping.   Kent, Kendell (wolf): Kendell works as a waiter at Les Deux Poissons and is almost certainly the person who notifies Lucky Owens that Sookie has left the restaurant after her dinner with Niall, setting the scene for Lucky to make an attempt on her life. Alcide is saddened by the news, thinking Kendell has sided with Patrick Furnan. In reality, both Kendell and Lucky are working for Priscilla Hebert. (FDTW)

  Keyes, Kennedy: Kennedy finds her way into Merlotte’s after serving time for manslaughter, having killed a man who brutally abused her. She eagerly accepts Sam’s job offer, studying to learn bartending and quickly adjusting to her new position. Worried that Kennedy will be hassled, not just because of her past but because she is a woman, Sam arranges for Danny Prideaux to come in as a bouncer when Kennedy works nights. She and Danny begin spending time together outside of work, and they are off duty in the bar when a firebomb is thrown through the window. Neither is injured, but Kennedy wonders if the attack was aimed at her, possibly carried out by a member of her abuser’s family in retaliation for her past crime. (DITF, DR)

  Khan, Mustapha (wolf): The former KeShawn Johnson has obviously faced hard times but has come out on top as Mustapha Khan, proud to be his own man. Bubba recommends the lone wolf to Eric after learning of the death of Bobby Burnham, and Eric hires him as his assistant because Mustapha knows how to keep his mouth shut and hates Victor Madden, although Eric does not know why. Mustapha gladly participates in Victor’s demise, arming himself with a long knife and having his human friend Warren as a shooter on the outside in case anyone escapes. When vampire Luis does run from the club, a bullet from Warren sends him back to Mustapha’s blade. Luis puts up a fight but is finally staked by Rubio, and Mustapha then goes to the aid of Palomino and Parker, who are fighting Unknown Vampire #2. Mustapha beheads the vampire in one swing. After the battle, an injured Pam asks to drink from him, and he agrees, knowing that it comes with the job. (DR)

  Kinman, Heather (fox): One of Sweetie Des Arts’s victims, nineteen-year-old Heather Kinman is shot and killed on the sidewalk outside the local Sonic while drinking a chocolate milkshake. She had just graduated from high school and was working at her first job at Bon Temps Office Supplies. (Mentioned, dies DAAD)

  Kiss of Pain, the: An S&M club in Rhodes, the Kiss of Pain specializes in supplying its clientele with services dedicated to “the particular enjoyment of those who enjoy their pleasures on the darker side.” Gervaise takes Carla there during the conference. (Mentioned ATD)

  Kolinchek, Dusty: Dusty is continuing the family yard-work business,
and his customers include Victor Madden. (Mentioned DR)

  Labeff, Jeff: Jeff gets into a shouting match in Merlotte’s with Louisiana Tech student Mark Duffy that soon gets out of hand. He returns the next night to apologize and is warned by Sam to behave in his bar. (DAAD)

  Lancaster, Elva Deene: Sid Matt’s wife, Elva Deene, passes away before the shifters’ Great Reveal. Her husband believes she would have enjoyed finding out about even more supes among them. (Mentioned DUD, LDID; dies; mentioned DAG)

  Lancaster, Sid Matt: When Jason is suspected of the murders of several local women, he and Sookie hire Sid Matt, who is said to be the most aggressive trial lawyer in Renard Parish. His experience isn’t necessary once Rene confesses to the crimes. Sid Matt takes the Great Reveal of the shifters in stride, even taking on werewolves as clients, and wishes that his wife, Elva Deene, had lived to see it. Pyramid security officer Landry overreacts when Sookie questions procedure during the investigation into the deaths of the Arkansas vampires, roughing up Sookie and handcuffing her.   Larrabee, Christine (wolf): The widow of the packmaster preceding Colonel Flood, Christine would prefer to stay neutral in the contest for Flood’s successor, but Jackson Herveaux calls on their friendship for her support. When it comes time for the actual contest, Christine agrees with Alcide that Sookie should be invited to serve as a witness and subtly encourages Sookie to use her talents to ensure an honest competition. Christine is among the females of the pack killed by Priscilla’s wolves in their attempt to take over Shreveport. (DAAD; mentioned, dies FDTW)

  La Salle, Truman: The fire chief of the city of Bon Temps, Truman and his crew respond to the firebombing at Merlotte’s even though the bar is outside the city limits. (DR)

  Lattesta, Tom: FBI Special Agent Lattesta travels from Rhodes to question Sookie about her involvement in the rescues at the Pyramid of Gizeh hotel. He and Agent Weiss are at her house when she gets the call about Crystal. They consider investigating the murder as a possible hate crime.

  Lattesta doesn’t trust Sookie but does believe that there is something different about her. He also knows about shifters even before the Great Reveal and has sent Antoine Lebrun in as an unwilling informant. When his interest in Sookie is stymied by powerful higher-ups (influenced by Niall and his money), Lattesta is resentful and vows to renew his pursuit if he is able to tie her to any new investigations.   Laveau, Marie (voodoo queen): Among the vampires of New Orleans, legend has it that Marie Laveau can be called on for favors by marking her tomb in St. Louis Cemetery #1 with three Xs, the blood of the dead, and words of magic. Hadley is attempting this ritual when she is killed by Waldo. (Deceased; mentioned OWA, DD)

  Lebrun, Antoine: Left homeless by Katrina, Antoine is arrested after stealing a car and unwillingly makes a deal with FBI Agent Lattesta to avoid jail. Agent Lattesta, aware of the existence of shifters and certain that they will come out, orders Antoine to spy on Sam—and Sookie. He takes a job as a short-order cook at Merlotte’s but determines to rid himself of Lattesta’s presence in his life and is relieved when Sookie accidentally reads his dilemma from his own mind. He confesses all to Sam and Sookie, promising not to give Lattesta any more information, happy to keep his job and new life in Bon Temps. Antoine is working the night of the firebombing and reacts quickly to shut down the appliances and protect the kitchen. (DAG, DITF, DR)

  Leclerq, Sophie-Anne (vampire): Sophie-Anne begins her life as Judith in a small village in northwest Europe approximately eleven hundred years ago. When she is around twelve years old, an illness decimates her village and she is forced into prostitution by the only other survivor, a slightly older boy named Clovis. They are camped in the woods when they are found by Alain, a vampire, who immediately drains Clovis but decides to spare Judith to use as a companion, continuing to prostitute her to pay for her upkeep, all the while promising to turn her. Alain is taken captive in a village that he had visited before, where he is recognized for what he is. Judith is left unbound as she is clearly human and a victim of Alain’s abuse, so she sneaks into the hut he is being held in and bargains with him to be turned in exchange for setting him free when she rises. Alain begins the process, but the village priest returns from a trip while she remains buried in the earth. Alain is killed before she awakens. She wanders alone for a few years until she finds a young boy being abused and turns him for companionship. Andre becomes her devoted servant and lover for centuries. By the time she works her way through the vampire hierarchy to be named the Queen of Louisiana, she has become Sophie-Anne Leclerq and keeps her background private. She meets Hadley Delahoussaye Savoy and begins an affair with her, eventually turning her. Hadley tells Sophie-Anne of her past, including tales of the unusual abilities of her cousin Sookie, setting in motion the chain of events that sends Bill to Bon Temps in the service of his queen.

  Sophie-Anne arranges a political marriage with Peter Threadgill, the King of Arkansas, but Peter has plans to take over her holdings by proving that she has given another lover one of his wedding gifts—a diamond bracelet actually stolen by Hadley in a fit of jealousy. When Sookie finds the bracelet and returns it to Sophie-Anne in time for her spring party, Peter starts a war anyway, leading to the defeat of the Arkansas vampires and his own death at Andre’s hands. Sophie-Anne faces a trial for the death of her husband at the summit in Rhodes. She is found innocent and granted the kingdom of Arkansas. Her relief is short-lived, as she is badly injured in the bombing, losing both her legs. She is still trying to recover when Felipe de Castro wages his campaign to take over Louisiana and Arkansas, killing her and her remaining sheriffs save for Eric.   Lee, Maxwell (vampire): One of the vampires owing loyalty to Eric, Maxwell, an investment banker, dutifully puts in his time at Fangtasia. In his free time, he enjoys a close shave from Barry Barber at Hooligans. He helps Pam evacuate Sookie and Bill after the battle with Breandan and his followers at the hospital, and Maxwell does his part in the assassination of Victor by staking Victor’s bodyguard Antonio.   Leeds, Jack: Private investigator Jack Leeds and his wife, Lily, are hired by the Pelts to find out what happened to their daughter Debbie. After interviewing many people, including Sookie, they inform the family that, as there are no leads, they cannot continue with the case. They are later hired by Mr. Cataliades, who is handling Gordon and Barbara Pelt’s estate after their deaths, and are told to be in Merlotte’s at an exact time to inform Sookie that Sandra Pelt is gunning for her. While they are there, four toughs, hired by Sandra, come into the bar and start trouble. When one of the thugs pulls a knife and another charges, Jack draws his gun but is shot in the arm by a third. After the assailants are subdued and the authorities arrive, Jack and Lily leave for the hospital so that Jack can be treated. (DAAD, DR; mentioned DD)

  Leeds, Lily Bard: Lily and her husband, Jack, are investigating the disappearance of Debbie Pelt, but when there are no leads, they inform the family that the case is cold. Sookie is able to read from Lily’s mind that she knows people are capable of horrible things, a knowledge Sookie sadly shares. The couple returns to Bon Temps when they are hired by Mr. Cataliades to warn Sookie that Sandra Pelt, who has been in jail for assault and battery, has been released and is after Sookie. Given a precise time to be at Merlotte’s, the Leedses are present when the four men hired by Sandra enter the bar. Jack is shot in the resulting mayhem, and Lil
y coldly disarms and disables his attacker, furious at her spouse’s injury, however minor. She takes Jack to the hospital herself after the authorities arrive. (DAAD, DR; mentioned DD)

  Lemay, Layla Larue (vampire): Partners in dance and partners in undeath, Layla and Sean O’Rourke work for Blue Moon Productions, putting on dance shows with both vampires and humans, including dancing at the Rhodes summit. Although most vampire couples, even makers and children, don’t remain together very long, Layla and Sean seem to be beating the odds. Layla and Sean have their own novella. (ATD)

  Lena: No last name given. Lena works as a bathroom attendant at the Pyramid of Gizeh yet despises the vampires who are the hotel’s main clientele as well as the humans who associate with them. (ATD)

  Lenier, Cindy: Rene’s sister, Cindy, is working in a hospital cafeteria in Baton Rouge and dating a vampire when she is killed by her brother. (Deceased; mentioned DUD)

  Lenier, Rene: Rene, one of Arlene’s ex-husbands, works on the road crew with Jason. He kills his sister, Cindy, because she is dating a vampire. In his madness, he begins to target other women with vampire lovers. After several other murders he goes after Sookie, but when she is not home he murders Gran instead. He does not waver in his intent, however, waiting for his chance, finally cutting her phone line one night when she is alone and catching her as she runs through the cemetery toward the safety of Bill’s house. Although he beats her savagely, Sookie is able to grab his knife from his belt and stab him. Rene survives to be tried for his crimes. (DUD; mentioned ATD)
