Sebastian could do nothing but moan as he trembled and spilled into Alexander. He’d never come into anyone without protection, and he loved the way it felt to give everything to Alexander. Their lips parted, and he gazed down into the other man’s eyes. “I do love you,” he whispered before withdrawing and rolling both of them to their sides.

Their legs were all tangled together, but Sebastian had no desire to move.

“That … took my breath away,” Alexander said.

“Yes, I noticed,” Sebastian said with a smile as he pushed Alexander’s hair off his forehead.

“It wasn’t just the sex. It was you. The way you look at me.” Alexander drew him closer and kissed him gently. “I never imagined myself with a man, but I couldn’t picture myself with anyone else. Not now.”

“Good. Because I’m not going anywhere. It’s my fight now, too. Ours. Our kingdom. Our people.” He ran his hand over Alexander’s body. “I need to clean you up. We need to sleep.”

Alexander rolled to his back as Sebastian opened the trunk to find a rag. “Not sure I can sleep.”

“If you go to sleep, like a good boy, I’ll fuck you again at sunrise.”

Alexander gazed up at the ceiling of the tent for a while before looking back at Sebastian. “That’s a promise?”

Sebastian began to clean him up. Then he smiled and bent to kiss him. “Just try to stop me.”

  Chapter Seven

Alexander woke up while it was still dark. When he stirred, Sebastian moved against him. The man kissed his way down Alexander’s body and then began to lick and suck his cock. Alexander sighed and thrust to meet Sebastian’s mouth. Then he felt Sebastian move away and heard him rummaging for something. Sitting up, Alexander blinked to see what was happening.

“What kind of oil is this?” Sebastian asked.

Alexander couldn’t help being confused. “Um, in the trunk? Olive oil infused with, uh, roses or something. Why?”

  “What is it used for?”

“To soothe insect bites and stings. Massage sore muscles.” Alexander moved to the edge of the pallets. “Sebastian, what are you doing?”

Sebastian pushed him back onto the pallets and then onto his back. “I want to ride your cock, and I just can’t imagine asking my king to rim me.” He chuckled. “Not yet anyway.”

“Rim you? Oh.” Alexander realized what he meant. “I’d love to do anything that would please you, but I don’t think I’d be that good at it.” He cupped Sebastian’s cheek. “When we’re alone, I’m not your king. We’re equals. I love you.”

“Maybe I like having so much power over the king.” Sebastian poured a little oil into his hand and rubbed it over Alexander’s cock. Then he reached around and, though Alexander couldn’t see clearly, he knew Sebastian was preparing himself.

A little moan escaped Alexander, and Sebastian laughed and kissed him. “See? I love your reactions. Can’t wait until we can be in a bed and have more light. I’m gonna drive you wild.”

Alexander laughed and kissed him back, pleased to see his cariad so happy.

Sebastian moved into position, and Alexander had a perfect view of his entire body. Sebastian stroked himself, watching Alexander watch him. Alexander could hear the movements of his oil-slicked hand, and he thrust up a bit so his cock slapped against Sebastian’s ass.

Alexander lost his ability to focus on anything as Sebastian lowered himself. It felt different from being inside a woman, but he found he loved it. Sebastian’s channel was hot and tight, and the oil only relieved the friction a little. Alexander thrust up, unable to stop himself, and Sebastian took him to the hilt. Sebastian groaned and ground against him in a circular motion. “Right there. Yes,” he whispered as he leaned back and began to really ride Alexander.

His breath catching in his throat, Alexander could do nothing but stare as his cariad took his pleasure. Alexander had never seen anything so erotic or so beautiful. He massaged Sebastian’s thighs and then wrapped the fingers of one hand around his cock.

“Yes,” Sebastian whispered. “Touch me. I love your touch.”

Sebastian rode him faster, then slower. The torture was exquisite. When Sebastian looked back down at him, Alexander felt himself going over the edge. Sebastian gasped as Alexander came, and then he wrapped his own fingers around Alexander’s and hastened his own release.

The hot cum hit Alexander’s chest. He liked the sensation even more, knowing it Sebastian’s cum rather than his own. He felt dizzy from the pleasure as he emptied into Sebastian. More than anything, he was glad he’d pleased his cariad, even if he hadn’t done much. Sebastian leaned down, Alexander’s softening cock still inside him. “I love you, too. Part of me still thinks this is crazy, yet loves that about it. Part of me is scared of what might happen. What could happen to you. I can’t lose you after we went through so much just to get this far.”

Alexander stroked Sebastian’s cheek. “You won’t lose me. I have more reasons than ever to win this battle. And that’s all it will be. A battle. I will not see my people thrown into a war.” He wiped a single tear from Sebastian’s cheek. “What’s wrong? What brought this on?”

Sebastian lowered himself to Alexander’s side, propping on his elbow. “I’ve never had unprotected sex before. Never trusted anyone enough, not even guys who offered to be tested. I know it doesn’t mean anything here because we don’t have human diseases, but I grew up with that always in my mind.” He met Sebastian’s gaze and drew closer. “I’ve never come into a man before, or let him come inside me. Maybe it’s silly, but it hit me last night. And again just now.”

“It’s not silly if it has meaning for you. I loved it, spilling into you. You coming into me. But why did it make you worry?”

“I’ve never been in love before. Been so … I don’t know … intertwined with anyone else. Not this way.”

“I can see how that would be scary. When I thought you’d never speak to me again, I could hardly see straight.”

  “I’m sorry.”

“Never apologize for that. Never. It’s over. I’m yours, and you’re mine.” He took a deep breath and grasped Sebastian’s hand. “And I want you to consider not only staying at my side but also … marrying me.”

Sebastian looked stunned, though Alexander couldn’t imagine why. “Marrying the king?” Sebastian gazed down at their joined hands. “What would that make me?”

“Your title would be prince, technically. You’d be addressed as Your Royal Highness.” He took Sebastian by the chin. “But I doubt that’s really what concerns you most.”

“Stalling. Indulge me.” Sebastian lowered his gaze again yet tightened his grip on Alexander’s hand.

Alexander kissed the top of his head. “You love me. That’s all that matters. Take your time and think about it.” He rose and began to clean up so Sebastian wouldn’t feel pressured to answer.

Sebastian soon stood up, just as the sun began to rise. They dressed in silence and then packed everything up. As they rolled up the pallets, Sebastian broke the silence. “I will think about it. I promise.”

“I know you will.” Alexander kissed him again before leaving the tent to go ensure everyone else was packing up camp and find out if anything significant had happened during the night. It hurt a little that Sebastian hadn’t said yes right away, but Alexander reminded himself they’d only known each other a few weeks. Had only declared their love and truly consummated it the night before.

As the sun warmed his face, he refused to be gloomy. The sooner they could find Grayden and end this conflict, the sooner he could begin making Sebastian completely his.

  * * * *

Sebastian moved to the edge of the river, feeling Alexander watching him. He turned and waved in an exaggerated fashion, which made Alexander smile and bow toward him in an equally exaggerated way. The river was less than fifty feet from their tent, and the sun was still up. They’d ridden hard all day long as they searched, and Sebastian was desperate to feel the cool wate
r on his skin. He knelt by the edge and took a long drink before opening his tunic and washing his face and neck. He wanted to take a bath but didn’t feel comfortable getting naked close to so many people. He’d done it as a child, but that felt like ages ago.

He lifted his head when he heard a horse approaching, but he didn’t see anyone close to him. He looked around for a moment and didn’t hear anything else. He bent to splash more water on his face, but then he felt a blade at his neck as well as the hot breath of a horse against his hair. He turned slowly and saw the former king atop a horse, mere inches from him.

“Make any attempt to cry out, and I will cut your throat,” Grayden said. “Your life only has value as long as you can be of use to me.”

Sebastian swallowed, now regretting that he’d shooed Alexander away. “You killed my grandmother. Banished me. We will make you pay for all of that,” he whispered. “That blade won’t always be in your hand.”

“But right now, it is.” Grayden pressed the blade into his skin.

Sebastian felt the slight pain of the cut, followed by the warmth of the blood that dripped from the small wound. “Yes. It is.”

“Your grandmother told me your skin was blue at birth.” He narrowed his eyes. “Is that true? Have you discovered your powers yet?” He paused, tilting his head. “Or did she lie to keep me from getting rid of you for good?”

Blue? “I don’t know what you’re talking about. No one ever told me anything like that.”

“Hmph. Guess you were somewhat young. You know what it means, right? Probably why she didn’t tell you when you were a child. Why your parents didn’t inform me or the seers when you were born.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he repeated. “I have no idea what it means.” As frightening as it was to learn he was right about the former king keeping him alive for a reason, he hoped he could use it to his advantage.

If I only knew what the fuck it meant.

Grayden moved quickly and snatched Sebastian up by his tunic, displaying far more strength than Sebastian had imagined a man of his size and age might have. “It means I finally have the weapon I need. Only reason I didn’t kill you.” He settled Sebastian on the horse in front of him, throwing him across the beast on his stomach as if he were a sack of flour. “And why I don’t want you to be with my ungrateful son.”

Ungrateful? You bastard! Grayden turned the horse and galloped off. Sebastian pushed his anger aside and thought to cry out, but he could feel the blade against his back and also feared being thrown from the galloping horse if they struggled. He closed his eyes and concentrated, even though he doubted it would do any good.

Grayden has me! By the river! Help me!

He repeated the thought over and over, thinking of Alexander and everyone else whose face he could picture, whose name he could remember. The power of projecting his thoughts might not work over this distance, but it couldn’t hurt to try. He could only hope someone had seen or heard them, or that Alexander would look back to check on him soon.

The blade poked into his back repeatedly, leaving tiny cuts, as the horse ran faster. The saddle dug into his stomach, and he had trouble breathing. His blood roared in his ears, his head throbbing. He heard some kind of whooshing noise, and the horse changed direction suddenly, as if startled.

The sound came again, and then Grayden cried out. The horse began to buck, rising up on its hind legs and sending both men crashing to the ground.

Sebastian looked up just as he heard another whooshing sound. He blinked, amazed by what he was seeing yet so happy to see it.

Alexander rode toward them with a bow and arrow in his hands. Another arrow came their way, striking Grayden. The man had three arrows in him now, one in his right leg and one in his back, while the latest one had struck him in the shoulder and had come through the other side. Sebastian saw the glint of the knife in the man’s hand. And the hatred in his eyes. Sebastian scrambled to get away just as Alexander reached them and leapt from his horse.

Alexander looked terrifying as he advanced on Grayden. Sebastian had never seen him angry before, but now he could literally see flames dancing in his lover’s eyes. The wind whipped around them, the ground trembling slightly. Grayden’s horse bolted now, though Alexander’s horse circled back around and hovered near. Alexander kicked the knife from his father’s hand and grabbed the man by the neck.

“Henri was right. We should have killed you long ago,” Alexander said.

“No!” Sebastian said. “You’ll regret it.”

“No, I won’t,” Alexander said, not looking at him.

“I want him dead, too, but we have to do this right. See him punished before the people. Proven guilty for all to see.”

“No one will object, and we’ll soon find all of his followers,” Alexander said. He nodded to the approaching horses. “My men will serve as witnesses to his kidnapping attempt, and he’s already lost the faith of the people. No one will blame me.”

Sebastian swallowed and said, “I’m not only thinking of that. Even if he’s the worst man to ever live, he’s still your father.” More softly, he said, “I’d hate to see you regret it one day.”

Grayden managed to croak out, “Tenderhearted fool. Should’ve killed him despite his powers.”

Alexander still wouldn’t look at Sebastian, but he seemed to be thinking as he glared at his father. “Bring rope,” he called to the men who’d just ridden up beside them.

As three men came to hold and tie Grayden, Alexander finally let go of his throat and backed away a bit. He took a deep breath and then looked over at Sebastian. “Thank you,” he whispered before drawing Sebastian into his arms. “Though Henri may have a fit.”

“Let him. All I care about is you.”

Alexander drew back and looked at his hand, which had smeared blood on it from where he’d touched the back of Sebastian’s tunic. “You’re hurt.” He touched Sebastian’s neck as well. “That bastard.”

  “Cuts. Nothing more. I’m fine.”

Alexander watched as the men led Grayden back to camp. He retrieved the one arrow that hadn’t hit Grayden and returned it to its quiver before hooking the bow over his body. He took the reins of his horse and patted it on the nose before grasping Sebastian’s hand and starting to walk behind the other men. “What powers was he talking about?”

“I don’t know. But he said something about me having blue skin when I was born.”

Alexander’s eyebrows rose. “Blue skin? I’ve never heard of that.”

“I have no idea what it means, but he called me a weapon.”

Alexander’s grip on him tightened. “We’ll find out what it means. But for now, you’re safe.” He drew Sebastian closer. “And you are never leaving my side again. I was being stupid. Grayden is excellent at illusions. Though I’ve never seen him do a mobile one like this, I should’ve guessed he could cloak himself in some way and sneak up to camp.”

“You can’t live every day in fear. You said so before.”

Alexander stopped. He reached over and touched the cut on Sebastian’s neck. “The most evil man I’ve ever known had a knife to your neck. He was making his escape, and I didn’t even know you were gone. If I hadn’t felt your call for help and looked, he would’ve…” He pulled Sebastian into his arms. “I’d have died of grief,” he whispered against his neck.

“Don’t say that,” Sebastian whispered, even as his throat tightened. “You’re stronger than that.”

  “I’m not.”

Sebastian drew back enough to look at him. “You are. And it seems Henri isn’t the only one who’s been training. That was impressive. Pretty damn sexy, too.” He smiled, hoping to keep Alexander from brooding over this too much. Terrifying as it had been, it was over. They were both safe, and Grayden was in custody.

Alexander didn’t smile back. “I’ve always been good with a bow and arrow. And I’m an excellent horseman.” He pressed closer. “I swear I’ll protect you better in future.

“I’ll learn to fight and use my powers. We’ll protect each other.”

“I’m so sorry I failed you.”

“I waved you away. You can’t blame yourself. You saved me before anything really bad could happen. And we caught Grayden.”

“I can only take a little joy in that.”

  “Only a little?”

Alexander took Sebastian’s hand and put it over his heart. “Feel that? The pounding? I’m still terrified.”

  “Don’t be. I’m safe now.”

“I worried I was annoying you. Being too clingy.” He stroked Sebastian’s cheek. “I didn’t want to give you any reason to say no to me.”

“Say no? To what?” Sebastian frowned, thinking, but then he realized what Alexander meant. “Oh. You mean…”

Alexander lifted his hand and kissed it. “To marrying me.”

Sebastian slid his arms around Alexander. “Look at the state you’re in. Always fretting over me. We can’t have you distracted like this. I’ll have to marry you so you can focus on being king.”

“Don’t joke about it, please.” Alexander’s face fell as he gazed down at Sebastian.

“I’m not joking. You just saved my life. Sort of puts things in perspective. And I thought about it as we rode today. I have to go back and explain to my parents. I don’t know what I’ll say, but I’ll come up with something. And I need to figure out if I want to finish school. Might make it easier for my parents to believe I got some amazing job far away if I have a degree in hand. But I can’t go back to that life. I’m staying here. With you.”

Alexander stared at him, unblinking and motionless. “Is that a yes? I really want to hear you say it. I need to hear you say it.”

Sebastian pulled him down and kissed him. “Yes, Your Majesty, I will marry you.”

  Alexander finally smiled. “Thank you.”

“Did you just say thank you?” Sebastian laughed. “What am I going to do with you?”

“There’s nothing wrong with good manners.”

“Hmmm. Looks like I’m gonna have to fuck some of that formality out of you before it drives me nuts.”
