Alexander raised one eyebrow and whispered, “I look forward to it.”

  One Week Later

Alexander signed more papers and handed them off to his steward, Louis. “Make sure Henri sees these. Allow him to make any corrections he wants, but come tell me about them if he has any. Give them to Edmund after Henri’s looked them over.”

“Yes, Your Majesty,” Louis said before leaving the room.

Someone else came in, and Alexander took a deep breath before looking up.

“Will you always look so glum when I’m out of the room?” Sebastian asked, crossing his arms and leaning on the desk, a smile slowly spreading across his face.

“Yes, always, but right now I just have a headache. I’m planning a trial and a coronation at the same time, when what I want to be planning is a wedding.”

Sebastian ran his hand over the ornate carvings on the edge of the desk. “We can get married whenever you want. I don’t need anything fancy.”

“But I want to celebrate it properly.”

Sebastian looked up. “Then we throw a big party instead.” He straightened and walked to the window. “I’d like an outdoor wedding. An arbor. Something simple. And then a big party. We can celebrate your coronation, too.”

“I want us married first so you can be crowned with me,” Alexander said, pushing back from his desk and moving to stand behind Sebastian and wrap his arms around him.

“Then we’ll do it the day before. Like I said, whenever you want. You are king, after all.”

  “Not officially.”

“You’re a king in the ways that count. You could’ve focused on yourself, but instead you’ve been working for your people.”

  “I hope I’m doing what’s best. What’s right.”

“You’re a vast improvement over the last one.” Sebastian tilted his head back a bit. “Any trouble?”

“No. He’s tried to bribe more than one guard, but we keep six posted at all times. I think he’s biding his time and hoping to be rescued. We’re keeping any of his followers we find elsewhere and making sure he doesn’t know who we have.” Alexander squeezed Sebastian. “I hope someone escorted you back here. I don’t like you being alone, even inside the palace.”

“Ronan walked me to the door of your study.”

  “Why didn’t he come in?”

“He still feels guilty for not being here for you. And for trusting the king all those years ago.”

“He’s apologized half a dozen times already.” Alexander sighed and held Sebastian closer. “How are your lessons going?”

“Okay. I feel clumsy, but Ronan’s being very patient. Sara and Dru, too.”

The three seers who had been missing for so long, along with Ronan’s cariad Owen, had arrived at the palace two days previously, once the news of Grayden’s capture had reached them. Ronan had actually taken them to the human world to hide.

  “It’ll take time.”

“I know. But we did make a breakthrough today. Just a small one.”

  “What? Tell me.”

“Might be easier to show you.” Sebastian pulled away and looked around the room. He walked over to the desk and moved a candelabra to the very edge. He gazed at it for a moment before slowly moving his hand toward it.

Alexander tilted his head as he watched, unsure what Sebastian was trying to do. He went completely still as he watched Sebastian’s hand pass through the candelabra. Sebastian flexed his hand and smiled, then did it again before turning to Alexander.

“I’m not going to try to walk through a wall any time soon, but I may one day be able to.”

Alexander tried to speak, but he found he couldn’t. He could only gesture to the candelabra as his mouth opened and closed.

Sebastian laughed. “You can cause earthquakes. How can you be that impressed by this?”

“Everything you do impresses me. What is this?”

“Dru was determined to find out what the king wanted me for. She’s been searching through the old legends, and early this morning she found the answer. It’s referred to as both phantoming and soul channeling, depending on which scrolls you look at. It’s an extremely rare gift. And the only one we could find that has anything to do with a baby being born with oddly colored skin. And there’s more. I can prevent others from hearing and seeing me indefinitely. It’s a step up from the illusions Grayden can do. His can only hold a short time, and he can’t cloak the sounds he makes. I suspect he wanted me as an assassin. Or a spy.”

“It may come out in his trial, though I doubt he’ll answer any of our questions willingly.” He reached out and grasped Sebastian by the shoulder. “It’s amazing, but do be careful. I already worry enough.”

Sebastian pressed close and wrapped his arms around Alexander’s neck. “And I’ve told you to stop doing that.”

“Don’t you worry about me?” Alexander asked as he slid his arms around Sebastian and slowly massaged his back.

  “Yes, but that’s different.”

  “How?”

“Because I say so,” Sebastian whispered against his lips. “You did say you would submit to me in all things.”

  “It’s hard at times.”

Sebastian smirked up at him. “I know it is.” He thrust his hips forward and rubbed against Alexander. “Starting to get hard right now.”

Alexander chuckled. “I mean that my desire to protect you can at times be stronger than my desire to please you.” He sighed. “We’ll need to close the door if you keep doing that.”

“Better close it. I just realized I haven’t fucked you in here yet.”

Alexander laughed louder this time as he waved his hand and sent a gust of wind to shut the door. He captured Sebastian’s lips as his body responded to Sebastian’s words and touch. As his hands moved under Sebastian’s shirt, he asked, “Where do you want me?”

Sebastian nipped at his lip. “Bent over that desk. It’s the perfect height.”

Alexander obeyed, his own need growing as Sebastian unlaced and lowered his breeches and then slapped him on the ass. A surprising jolt of pleasure rippled through him, and he moaned before saying, “Do that again.”

“Yes, Your Majesty,” Sebastian whispered before his palm made contact again. And again.

Alexander was dizzy with desire by the time Sebastian stopped just long enough to tongue him and wet his hole a bit. The roughness of the claiming made the moment even more erotic. Sebastian fucked him in long, deep strokes while teasing his fingers lightly over the skin he’d just pinkened.

“So, the king likes to be spanked?” Sebastian thrust harder and faster. “You keep getting more perfect.”

“Mmmm,” was all Alexander could get out.

Sebastian thrust deep and held there as he bent over and bit Alexander’s shoulder through the material of his shirt. “Love it when you can’t even talk.” He then kissed the spot he’d just bitten before straightening and resuming the hard fucking.

They came at the same time, and Alexander couldn’t hold back his cry of pleasure. Sebastian’s voice broke through the haze of pleasure moments later.

“I think half the palace heard you.”

Alexander straightened and turned around, meeting his cariad’s mischievous gaze. “I hope so. It’s much easier to put faith in a happy king.”

Sebastian smiled and drew him into a slow, steamy kiss. As their lips parted, Sebastian led him over to a couch against the far wall. “Now that’s out of my system, come make love to me.”

“You don’t want me to take you like that?”

Sebastian licked his lips. “Another time. I love your gentleness with me. It’s so much more than fucking.” He stripped the rest of his clothes off and drew Alexander down on top of him. “Everything’s so much more with you.”

Alexander cupped his cheek. “Marry me tomorrow.”

Sebastian blinked in seeming surprise, but then he grinned. “Yes, Your Majesty,” he said before bringing their lips tog
ether and pulling Alexander’s body flush against his.

Alexander was so happy he might’ve ended up being a bit rougher than Sebastian had wanted him to be.

But he didn’t hear a single complaint fall from the man’s lips.

  Epilogue

  Two Days Later

Alexander said all the right words and knelt at the right times, but he wasn’t truly paying attention to anything but Sebastian during the coronation. He’d never had as much trouble getting out of bed as he had that morning. He and Sebastian had married the day before in a quick but still beautiful ceremony out in the garden, and even though they’d already had sex dozens of times, being married had somehow made Sebastian even more insatiable.

Sebastian seemed a bit nervous, obviously not used to having so much attention directed his way. They’d postponed their celebration of both happy events until tonight, and as Alexander finally began to scan the crowd, he could appreciate how much his people needed this. As they made their way to the thrones, Sebastian gripped his hand.

“Catch me if I faint. Do not let me fall on my ass in front of everyone.”

Alexander chuckled. “I’d never let that happen.” He indicated for Sebastian to sit down first, and then he kissed his husband’s hand, loving the way the man blushed. He’d turned bright red when they’d kissed during their wedding as well. Alexander sat down and then leaned over to whisper, “How is it you can do the things you did last night and then blush at a kiss?”

“No one watches us while we do that stuff,” Sebastian said, whispering so low Alexander almost didn’t hear him.

Once the applause died down, everyone began to mingle. And the wine began to flow.

“You know what?” Sebastian said as he accepted a glass of wine Louis handed him.

“What?” Alexander asked, nodding his thanks as he accepted a glass of wine as well.

“It was just as I saw it in my vision.”

  “What was?”

“Us. Standing in that field. The vision I had before my memories were restored.”

“Was that why you wanted an outdoor wedding?”

Sebastian smiled. “No. Just thought it was simpler. Thought it would be less trouble, given all we have to do right now. I didn’t really remember the vision until after you kissed me.”

“I’m glad that one came true.”

Sebastian gazed down into his wine. “Do you think the other’s been averted? The one I had while I was dreaming? Did we destroy that possibility completely?”

“I think so. We prevented war. For now.”

Sebastian reached out and grabbed his hand. “You be careful, too, while Grayden’s still alive. Your people need you as much as I do.”

Alexander kissed Sebastian’s hand again. “You know, it was roughly a month ago you wouldn’t even have a drink with me.”

“And then you stalked me. So romantic.”

“I knew you were what I wanted. That I had to bring you back to your true home.”

Sebastian chuckled. “I have a surprise for you, actually.”

“You’re pregnant already? Not surprised. Given how demanding you are.”

Rolling his eyes, Sebastian said, “I’ll ignore that, this time. But it does involve your family getting larger.”

“What do you mean?” He had no idea what Sebastian might be talking about.

“I had my first mating vision. I saw your brother Nathaniel with his cariad.”

“Really? What does she look like?”

“She’s very beautiful, but my vision was a bit odd. I haven’t had a chance to report it to Ronan yet.”

“Odd how? Not that I’d be surprised. Nathaniel’s always been a bit picky. I wouldn’t be surprised if he rejects his cariad, unless they hit it off right away.”

“She has a twin, it seems. A brother. The thoughts all came to me in a jumble as I did my morning meditation the way Ronan showed me. Well, the brother was in the vision, too. And he didn’t look too happy.”

“Think he’ll disapprove? Not everyone is happy about having royalty at all.”

“No idea. I’ll talk to Ronan tomorrow. See what I’m supposed to do.” He chewed his lower lip. “Unless you want to tell your brother now. I know the girl’s name. Her family raises sheep. Lives very close.”

Alexander looked across the crowd to find his younger brother, and he spied him talking in an animated way with Henri. “Let him be for now. Looks like they’re talking strategy. Could be for the trial or for some imaginary battle. Who knows.”

“It was strange, having this vision. I feel as if my others were different. I was stressed, and they were trying to force me to action. This one came so naturally.”

“And what do you think? Do you believe we should trust that fate pairs us to the right person? Or is it all just fanciful?”

Sebastian eyed him. “How can I think it means nothing when we’re so perfect together?”

  “Just curious.”

  “Sneaky, I think you mean.”

Alexander laughed. “That wasn’t a trick question. I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially after you spent so much time in the human world. They have the notion of soul mates. Serendipity. That sort of thing.”

“I guess experience might change my mind, but,” he grasped Alexander’s hand again, “as far as we’re concerned, I’m pretty damn sure you’re my other half. That you held the other part of my heart all this time. That I would never have felt complete if you hadn’t come for me.”

Alexander set down his wine and drew Sebastian to him for a long, deep kiss. His cariad struggled at first, then gave in. When they parted, Sebastian whispered, “Everyone’s watching! I’m going to get you for that.”

“I certainly hope so,” Alexander said before kissing him again, visions of his potential “punishment” already heating his blood.
