Vasili’s heart was pounding as he walked into the restaurant. He was not surprised to find the place almost completely empty. It had been close to six years and somehow, Pyotr looked the same. Granted, he had added a little more weight but that was it. Apart from the few extra pounds, he was still the same old douche. A sick smile played on Pyotr’s lips when he saw Vasili.

“I was beginning to think you were not coming,” he said.

“You threatened my girlfriend,” Vasili pointed out. “It’s not like you gave me any choice.”

“Why don’t you have a seat? The chef here makes a pirozhki so good, you will swear you are back in Moscow,” Pyotr said as he took a sip of what looked like vodka, his drink of choice.

“I would rather not have anything to eat,” he said as he took a seat.

  Pyotr smiled and nodded.

“I see you brought Vlad,” he said as he looked at Arthur who was stationed near the door.

“I see you brought your own security,” Vasili said looking at a man standing near the exit. “So, it was only fair that I bring mine.”

  Pyotr laughed.

“If I remember Vlad very well, I’m sure he has an army of men surrounding this place.”

“Probably,” Vasili sat down and looked at him. “Why am I here?”

“Kostya, always putting business first,” Pyotr said, smiling. He poured him a glass of vodka and pushed it towards him. Vasili looked at the glass for a long second before he finally looked up.

“I hear you are doing quite well for yourself,” Pyotr started. “And I taught you well because I have tried looking up all your business interest but you are like a UFO…you know, people claim to have seen you but no one can really prove it because you leave no paper trail ever yet you seem to be doing well for yourself.”

“I try…someone has got to pay the bills, right?” Vasili said, cynically.

“Yeah, I guess.” Pyotr took a long deep breath. “That night you took care of Mikhail, a raid took place on nearly every warehouse he owned.”

“What has that got to do with me?” Vasili asked, shaking his head.

“The raid was not carried out by local police that we usually control. It was the International Police and the FBI.” Pyotr flashed down the contents of his drink before he poured himself another glass. “They said they had come for the girls…and only three people knew about the auction. One person died before the raid, the other one sent you to kill him and the other one is the one who killed him.” He looked at his glass and then looked at Vasili. “That leaves you, me and Mikhail in this equation and I know Mikhail and I didn’t talk to the cops. We wouldn’t do that.”

“Are you saying that I did?” Vasili asked. One hand was ready to reach for his gun and just end Pyotr once and for all.

“You know the different families were all going to take over Mikhail’s operations, right?” Pyotr asked and Vasili nodded.

“So, you were fine with him selling children to perverts?” Vasili asked, slightly enraged.

“Children? He was trading women….” Pyotr asked.

“That night I went to his house, the night of the party, he had a girl there. She was so high on drugs…God knows what kind of cocktail he had her on and she was eleven, maybe twelve years old. No older than Katya.”

“You keep my family out of this,” Pyotr said. The tone in his voice had changed. His eyes suddenly got dark, darker than Vasili had ever seen them.

“Imagine Katya under one of those disgusting men...imagine her being fondled and fucked however these men…” he was still talking when Pyotr smashed the glass and slammed his hand on the table. “Sit down, Ivanovich. I am not done,” Vasili said in an unbelievably controlled voice.

“Have you forgotten who you are talking to?” Pyotr asked and Vasili shook his head.

“I would never forget who I am talking to. But you should know that you are not talking to the same Kostya Utkin you used to know,” Vasili said pointing at his chest. Pyotr looked down at his chest and noticed a number of laser targets on his black suit. “As it turns out you were right about Vlad after all.”

Pyotr sat down and took a long deep breath.

“I thought we were just two good friends having a conversation,” he said.

  Vasili shook his head.

“You and I were never friends, Mr. Ivanovich. I was your enforcer and that was it. I went where you wanted me to and did what you ordered me to. But those days are done. Those days when you ask me to jump and I ask how high are done.”

“Yeah, clearly things have changed,” Pyotr said. “You still owe me, though.”

  “What for?”

“Mikhail kept a safe in his office under the floor boards. In it he had five million dollars…five million dollars of my money,” Pyotr started. “Five million dollars that has been missing ever since that night.”

“I didn’t know anything about any money,” Vasili pointed out.

“So, you are trying to tell me that an enforcer just vanished without any kind of cushion money?” Pyotr asked and Vasili shook his head, sighing.

“I don’t know about the rest of the people on your payroll but I actually had an exit plan. I hated having to kill people for a living so when I finally did my last job, Mikhail,” he paused and leaned forward. “I had enough to disappear thanks to you.”

“Thanks to me?” Pyotr shrugged. “What is that supposed to mean?”

“That time you put a two million hit on the Ukrainian mob boss who was trying to move in on your territory and no one else could do it because he always seemed to see us coming,” he said in a soft voice.

“You were the only one who could pull that job off,” Pyotr said.

“And that was the only payout I needed to start over.” Vasili straightened his tie and looked into the glass Pyotr had offered him. “Stay away from Malia if you know what is good for you.”

“So now we have resorted to threats?” Pyotr asked.

“You threatened someone I love and if you follow through with that threat then you will make me do the one thing that I have never wanted to do. I will involve your family...I will go after the one thing you hold dear in the world.” He looked into Pyotr’s eyes and a sick smile played on his lips. “Katya.”

  “You wouldn’t dare!” Pyotr hissed.

“Oh yes I would. You go after people I care about and I will retaliate in equal force, Ivanovich. That is a promise,” Vasili said, standing up.

“Kostya, I am not looking for a fight but if you come after Katya or my business…” Pyotr started.

“Wait, what? You think I am here for…your business?” Vasili asked raising an eyebrow over the other.

“What are the odds that you are in town around the same time I have a meeting with the heads of the families?” Pyotr asked and Vasili shrugged.

“I am not interested in your business,” he said.

“Then leave Glasgow, actually, leave the UK altogether. If you want to start a charter out here, then get something going in Wales…no one is interested in that place. Or Ireland.” Pyotr took the bottle in his hand and took a few gulps of the vodka. “The IRA is always looking to partner with someone and we are already stretched far too thin.”

  Vasili stood up and sighed.

  “I’m done with that life.”

“Then if you know what is good for you and that girl, you will leave Glasgow within the next twenty four hours,” Pyotr said, coldly. “I asked the chef to make you a takeout bag of pirozhki. You will love it,” he added with a smile.

“Keep it,” Vasili said before he made his way out of the restaurant, his heart racing.

He was still breathing heavily when he got into his car. Arthur looked at him and started the car.

“I know that was hard, but if you care about Malia, you have to get her out of here as soon as you possibly can,” he said.

“I know,” Vasili said in a small voice. He looked at Arthur and sighed. “I know.”
/>
“You know,” Arthur started as he began driving. “If you think about it, this might be the perfect chance to start something, a revolution. Get yourself in with the IRA.”

“Were you listening in on my conversation with Pyotr?” Vasili asked.

“I was doing my job,” Arthur said in his defense. “And you and I both know that an alliance with the IRA is exactly what you need to put you back on the map.”

  Vasili shook his head.

“I don’t want to be on any map. I don’t want to live my life dealing drugs and looking over my shoulder. I turned to legit business for a reason and I am not going back…for anything.”

They drove in silence for a long time before Arthur finally spoke.

“You know I had to get the extra security on him, right?” he asked.

“I know. At least there was no bloodshed,” Vasili said.

“Actually, we had to take out a sniper in the opposite building,” Arthur said.

“Wait, you killed him?” Vasili asked as he looked at him and Arthur shook his head.

“I wanted to but he was just hit with a horse tranquilizer. It should keep him down for a couple of days,” he said.

Vasili took a long deep breath when his phone rang. He looked at the screen and sighed.

“Did you tell her anything?” Arthur asked when Vasili showed him his phone screen. Vasili shook his head.

“I don’t want to worry her. I mean, I just told her that she couldn’t go on her European school tour.” He began drumming his fingers on the dashboard. “She wouldn’t take too kindly that I am in Glasgow.”

“Where does she think you are?” Arthur asked.

“On a business trip,” Vasili said. “But I didn’t tell her where.”

“So she just let the whole school trip thing go?” Arthur asked and Vasili laughed.

“I bribed her with a shopping trip in Milan.”

“Didn’t you learn anything from that time you let her attend the New York Fashion Week?” Arthur asked, smiling and Vasili shrugged.

“It’s the lesser of two evils. One of the places she wants to visit is Bristol and once she is there she will want to look up her family or something and…” he shook his head. “I can’t let that happen.”

“Does she even know what happened to her family?” Arthur asked and Vasili shook his head.

“I never told her…the details. All she knows is that they are dead. After I found out what Mikhail did to them…” he took a deep breath. “I thought I was protecting her.”

“You were,” Arthur said. “You are.”

“Then why does it feel like I am doing everything wrong?”

“Because one day you know you will have to tell her. It will be better to hear it from you than hear it from someone else…or worse, the internet,” Arthur said.

Vasili looked outside the window. He hated the fact that he was going to have to do the most important thing he had ever done because circumstances pushed him to. He did want to tell Malia everything but he had not planned on doing it so soon…especially not now that they were still in Glasgow. And to make things worse, he also had to talk to Ashley and tell her what really happened to her parents.

  Chapter 9

When Malia walked into the suite later that day, she raised an eyebrow when she saw the unpacked suitcases by the door. She tossed her purse and laptop on the couch before she made her way to the bedroom area of the suite.

“What’s going on?” she asked as she looked at Vasili who was seated at the edge of the bed. “I thought we were going to get unpacked and take a lazy walk around town. It’s a perfectly sunny afternoon,” she said and Vasili shook his head.

“I’d rather…” he started before his voice trailed off. “How was the meeting?”

“Good…great actually. I managed to close the deal pretty damn fast.” She sat down next to him. “I’m actually done here. So we can have the rest of the week to do whatever we want. Just like we had planned,” she said as she held the side of his face. He looked at her and took her hand in his.

“So, you don’t have any more business in Glasgow?” he asked and she shook her head.

“Like I said, free as a bird for the rest of the week. Except for the fact that I have to talk to Omar and let him know how everything goes.”

“Then let’s leave Glasgow,” Vasili said quickly. “Tonight. Right now.”

“Why are you in such a hurry to leave? I thought you wanted us to take some time off.”

“I did…I do.” He interlaced his fingers with hers. “But…”

Malia could clearly see that he was distressed but she didn’t know just how bad it was. She knelt in front of him and put her hands on either knee.

“Tell me what happened,” she begged.

“Not here,” he said. “You are not safe here. None of us are.”

“What are you talking about? I got my security detail right outside…for once,” she said. “And your men are also here…”

“Do you trust me, Malia?” he asked and she nodded.

  “With my life.”

“Then please trust me when I tell you that we need to get out of here. Tonight,” he said.

“I got that part…what I don’t get is why you are so hell bent on leaving Glasgow while you wanted to get away….”

“…fine let’s get away. Anywhere but the UK or Eastern Europe.”

“I miss the States but I was not really looking to go there today,” she said.

“I don’t care where we go. Pick a place. Any place,” he said.

“I recently got a place in New South Wales. I haven’t really had a chance to check it out but…” she started and he nodded.

“That’s perfect,” he said. “Wheels up in thirty."

Malia opened her mouth to speak but she had barely said anything when he suddenly got up and walked to the door.

“It’s a long flight to Sydney. Get comfortable,” he said before he walked out leaving her with more questions than she had a few seconds earlier.

  “What the fuck?” she wondered.

  *****

Malia had never seen anyone she considered as powerful as Vasili seem so nervous. He did not even sleep a wink during the long flight to Sydney. He was a mess, she could see it. It was written all over his face. Even during the short ride to her house in New South Wales, he was quiet. When they got there, she walked around the room with Arthur and one of her security men before she made her way back to the living room carrying a bottle of wine and two glasses.

“The guys are all in another wing of the property leaving this side to us,” she said as she put them on the coffee table. “We are completely alone and have the privacy to do whatever it is that we want.”

She slipped an arm around his neck and ever so softly brushed his lips with her own.

“Baby,” he muttered under his breath.

“I was thinking I'll make us something to eat. Maybe some chicken or we could ask one of the guys to go out for pizza,” she said, kissing his neck. He held her waist and pulled her away.

“Baby, we need to talk,” he said and she shrugged.

“Okay, then let’s talk,” she said, smiling.

He took a long deep breath.

“It is not as easy as I would like it to be,” he said.

“What’s going on?” she asked. But he didn’t answer. He was just standing there, holding her with his heart racing. He was not sure if she could see the worry in his eyes, if she could feel his heart breaking.

“Vasili, will you just talk to me?” she asked as she looked into his eyes.

He was breathing hard and fast, his lips slightly parted but he just couldn’t speak. He held her face in his hands and for a long minute just stood there, looking into her eyes. He could feel his eyes welling up.

“Vasili, you are scaring me,” she said and he lowered his head and kissed her.

He intended for it to be a short, slow kiss but it was anything but. His hands ran d
own her small back and held her against his body. He was gently backing her up against the couch. She let out a sigh when he pulled away.

“Remember when I asked you if you would think any different of me if I told you my biggest secret?” he rasped and she nodded.

“Is that what you want to tell me right now?” she asked in a whisper. “Because I told you last time, you can tell me anything.”

He buried his head in her neck and kissed her softly, his hand on her ass. He was gently squeezing her, making her moan softly.

“I don’t want to lose you,” he said in a muffled voice but he didn’t pull away from her. She pulled away and looked at him.

“I’m not going anywhere,” she said. “Just…” she started but he pulled her to himself before he pushed her up to the wall. She was breathing heavily and so was he as he kissed her lips and then her neck.

His other hand was pulling her dress up, exposing her bare thighs to the cool air. She gasped when he pulled her panties aside and began caressing her already wet slit. She closed her eyes as he pushed her panties down. She had barely stepped out of her panties when he suddenly pinned her on the wall and began unbuckling his belt with one hand.

She gasped when he lifted her and she instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist before he pushed his cock into her, sending a shiver down her spine. She held a lock of his hair and moaned softly as she felt him moving in and out of her, stretching her out and making her even wetter than she already was. He was fucking her so hard and so deep, almost like he never wanted to stop, not like she wanted him to.

With every thrust, he seemed to go deeper into her and he was fucking her harder than ever. She felt herself shivering and tightening as his groans grew louder and louder. She was digging her fingers into his back and he copped a feel of her round ass as he gave her one final thrust. They cried out in unison as they came apart into each other’s arms. She rested her head on his shoulder as she felt him pulling out of her.

“Where did that come from?” she asked in a whisper.

“That was just in case I never get to do that again,” he said, releasing her legs.

“Why wouldn’t I let you do that again?” she asked and Vasili sighed. He got out of his pants and walked out of the room. “The bathroom is the last door on the left,” she called out.
