I swallowed hard, staring at the ring. “I see. Well, I should begin preparing myself, then.”
I looked over his shoulder toward the terrace where Colette and Armand stood, both smiling. Colette had tears in her eyes and her hands clasped before her as she jumped up and down excitedly.
I laughed again as I wiped a tear away. “They seem pleased.”
He looked to them before turning back to me and smiling. “Haven’t you heard? They set all this up.”
I looked at him. “They what?”
“Well, not your father going away on business, but they arranged for me to come by, to see you, and to throw myself at your mercy.” He leaned into me, letting his forehead rest against my own. “What did I tell you? Always good night, never goodbye.”
I smiled, throwing my arms around him. I held him tightly beneath me as he held me, his cologne filling me with perfect contentment.
He was right. Always good night, never goodbye.
