“Mrs. Forrest, I swear you feel tighter and taste sweeter now that you’re my wife,” he says pushing into me over and over, his gaze focused on my face watching every reaction, listening to every sigh. He plays me like an instrument custom crafted for his hands only, and I’ve never felt more loved.

I close my eyes and reach over my head to grab hold of the slats in the headboard. I’m amazed that my body still has an orgasm left in it. I believe that Roman could make me come an unlimited number of times if given the opportunity. My body doesn’t know how to say no to him. What he wants or needs, he gets, and right now he needs to see me climax… again.

“Oh God, please, Roman, please…” I stammer not even realizing what I’m saying.

“Open your eyes. I’m going to come, and I want to see your eyes on me.”

I do as I’m told and open my eyes. Roman is pounding into me, lifting me off the bed with every thrust until I feel him swell within my walls. He roars with his release, his cock pulsing inside me, filling me up as he comes one glorious time to my half dozen. It doesn’t seem fair. I’ve told him I think so, but he always says the same thing, “Making you come brings me just as much physical pleasure as coming myself. When you come six, seven, eight times, it feels just as good for me.”

I don’t know how that’s true, but I’ll never argue.

Panting, he lowers himself down on top of me and rolls us to our sides. “Wow,” I say brushing his hair off of his sweaty forehead. “That was… I don’t even know what that was.”

  “That was my insurance policy.”

“Why on earth would you need an insurance policy?”

“This is my last chance before the big wedding to make sure you know you’re doing the right thing this time. I didn’t want you to have any doubts.”

The warm, gooey feeling of pure love blooms in my chest and spreads throughout my body. I smile at this beautiful man I’m already technically married to and let out a giggle.

“Are you laughing at me? Say you’re not laughing at me.”

I press my lips together trying to hold it in, but it’s no use. Laughter spills from my lips like a hose that’s been kinked and just untangled. “I’m sorry,” I gasp. “It’s just…”

“Just what?” he says propping himself up on his elbow.

“It’s just, we’re already married. You didn’t have to prove anything to me. I’m yours, hook, line, and sinker, forever and ever, amen. You couldn’t get rid of me if you tried.”

He smiles down at me in that way that says I can’t believe you’re mine. I hope he never stops looking at me that way.

“Good, because I can’t live without you. Now, come on, let’s go have a wedding on the beach.”

“Just you and me?” We had planned a simple service with just the two of us followed by a reception with our friends and family. We had both wanted it this way, intimate and private.

“Yes beautiful, just you and me.”

  Epilogue

  Five Years Later

  Roman

“Miss Min, you’d best return that cookie to the jar before your mother catches you eating it so close to dinner time,” I say to my daughter who has just claimed her third chocolate, chocolate chunk cookie in fifteen minutes. I played like I didn’t see the first two she swiped because I’m a complete pushover when it comes to my girls.

Adopting one baby and one very young girl from Korea was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done in my life as well as the biggest blessing second only to marrying my Aria. I am convinced that there is no man happier than I am anywhere on this earth.

“But Daddy, I can’t wait until dinner. I’m so hungry,” Min says, her face crumpled in disappointment. Min is four years old, and she’s a bottomless pit of hunger. We think it’s due to her lack of food the first two years of her life. She’s been overcompensating ever since she came to be a part of our family.

I look at her perfect little face, red lips pouting, crumbs on her chin, and I can’t say no. I physically cannot say the word. “All right, but don’t tell Mommy I let you. She’ll be angry.”

Her face morphs into a smile, and she takes a giant bite out of the cookie before running outside onto the patio where her Nana Julia, who also can’t say no to her, is sitting with her boyfriend, Gerard.

Aria’s endometriosis was so severe that we gave up on the idea of trying to have our own children before even trying. Adoption felt like the right thing to do. The process was long and drawn out. We had only planned on adopting Min until her biological parents had So Young and couldn’t care for her either.

It was never even up for debate. We told the adoption agency we wanted them both, and that’s what we got. A gorgeous six-month-old baby girl and her beautiful three-year-old sister became the newest members of the Forrest family a little over a year ago. I can’t imagine my life without them now.

Aria breezes into the kitchen, her new shoulder-length haircut catching me by surprise. “I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to your new hair,” I say with a hint of a pout in my voice.

She wraps her arms around my shoulder bending down to kiss the side of my neck from behind. “It’s my ‘mom’ hair. I don’t have time to mess with styling my long hair when I have two little girls’ hair to fix, too.”

“If you needed help fixing their hair, you could have asked me. I’m pretty good at braiding, you know.”

“You are a fabulous braider, but you leave much earlier than we do. If you hate my hair that much, I’ll grow it back out for you.”

“I never said I hate it, you’re always beautiful to me. I just loved your long hair.”

“Don’t you mean you loved wrapping it around your wrist and pulling it when we were having kinky...”

The doors from the patio burst open, and Min flies past followed by So Young and Leeza. “Muahhaha! I’m going to catch you and tickle torture you forever!” Leeza yells holding her arms over her head while making wild animal noises. The girls shriek, and then the three of them are gone.

“Typical day in the Forrest home,” Aria says straightening up to close the doors.

“Yes, always interrupting intimate moments,” I murmur under my breath.

“I heard that, Mr. Forrest. Are you having second thoughts about kids? Because if you are, too bad.” Aria smiles hopping up onto the island counter to sit. She’s wearing a pair of jean cut-off shorts and an earthy boho stripped tank top with bare feet. Her style hasn’t changed much to my despair, but I have grown to love her wild, baggy, bright, clothes. As long as she keeps her wardrobe of sexy lingerie stocked, she can wear a paper bag around the house if she wants.

“Never. In fact, let’s have a few more, shall we?”

Her playful expression falls, and I laugh. The girls are a lot of work, and I know she’s nowhere near ready for more… yet. “I’m teasing, beautiful. Don’t look so shocked.”

“Whew. I thought maybe you were having a little stroke or something. Those two keep me plenty busy. So, what time are we eating tonight?”

We’ve been having Sunday night family dinners ever since we adopted the girls. We eat together during the week too, but Sundays are special because we invite mother’s boyfriend, Gerard. He is the first and only man I have approved of since she began dating again. His background check came back clean as a whistle. He has his own fortune, he’s kind to my mother, and he enjoys my children. In short, he’s a keeper.

Leeza and Brandon live here at the house with us. They met at a book signing at Aria’s store five years ago, and it was love at first sight. Leeza is never happier than when she’s with Brandon, which is all the time since she got a job proofreading for Penelope Ward. She finally decided to grow up and get a job all thanks to Brandon, who incidentally, is also a man I highly approve of.

“Ella said dinner will be out on the patio at six thirty,” I say closing the news app on my iPad.

“Oh good. It’s beautiful outside today, perfect for eating al fresco.”

  “We’re
eating al fresco?” Brandon asks walking into the kitchen with So Young thrown over his shoulder laughing. Leeza is right behind him holding Min who is gasping from what I imagine was a tickle-torture session.

“What’s falfresco mean?” Min asks, always the inquisitive one.

“Al fresco means out in the open air. We’re eating on the patio tonight,” Aria explains taking our daughter from Leeza and standing her on the floor. “She’s too heavy for you to carry,” she scolds patting Leeza’s pregnant belly.

“Ugh, maybe it will help get the little monster out. Nothing else seems to be working.”

“Give him time, he’s not due for a week,” Aria says.

“He’s been inhabiting my body long enough. I’m going to call the doctor tomorrow and tell him to sign the eviction papers.”

Brandon rubs her back and points her toward the chair across from me. “Sit. I don’t think tickle-torturing your nieces will make you go into labor. I’ll get you some lemonade.”

“Why do you think lemonade will fix everything?” she asks.

“Why do you like to argue?”

She pouts, and I chuckle. I love seeing Brandon put her in her place. It’s refreshing.

“Dinner will be ready soon. Why don’t you all go out to the table so that I can finish cooking?” Ella says stirring something on the stove looking slightly annoyed that we have all conglomerated in her territory. Champ is sitting at her feet where he can always be found, waiting for something to drop. I’ve never seen a dog so motivated by food. He will act as if no one exists if he thinks there is food to be had.

We begin to make our way outside, and I catch Ella sliding a chunk of steak off the counter for a waiting Champ. She thinks she’s sly, but I know she loves that dog as much as the rest of us do. He is an integral part of our big, happy family.

I hang back leaning my shoulder on the doorjamb watching everyone gather around the table and marvel at what we have created here. Two perfect black-haired beauties, my pregnant sister and her loving husband, my mother and Gerard, and my crown jewel, Aria, sit together laughing and joking before me. Aria notices me watching and reaches out her hand for me to join them, so I do.

Nobody’s life is perfect, but ours is damn close.
