Let's Get Weird: Poems, Songs and Other...From a 33 Year Old Boy Navigating the American Jungle Page 2

PART II

The leaders we elect placate to whatever the elites demand

  Money is all they understand

No real worry about the common man

The solution is so easy yet we don’t want to admit it

Afraid the elites might take their money away, who needs it?

  Anyway,

How many people, real people, are actually affected by what the elites do or say?

We’ve been blinded by our loyalties to organizations that don’t represent us

Just in the hope to get to ride on the winning bus

We’ve allowed ourselves to expect nothing

Becoming amused when they struggle to do the most obviously right thing

The elites just laugh the whole time

Working class people they’ll never know, fighting to ensure the elites don’t pay another dime

People are too greedy when left to their own devices,

No limits to their childish impulses

We are all Americans; we can benefit from a unified song

Our prosperity is theirs as well, this can only continue for so long

Before we won’t be able to right this wrong

There are only so many resources to go around

When they’re gone, it’s not like we can start another round

Once you’re at a level of extreme wealth

Multiplying that wealth doesn’t help breathe a fuller breath

You’re still basically the same level of happy

Just more useless shit that gets the country sloppy

If the elites can’t restrain themselves any better than a child in a candy store

What then is their real purpose for?

  Achieving excellence is good

  But it has become misunderstood

You’re no longer the fittest if you have no real regard for other human beings

We are after all, members of the same species

Let’s get together workers and make a coherent plan

Because restraint is not something the Elites seem to understand

  FLY AWAY

Flying high on the Wings of Change

The stubborn vigil below refuses to accept the game

A prosperous moment, one in the same

Catching new life while soaring above

An imperative dilemma, a new found love

Can it be true, this path of yours

Acceptance in the gloom of shutting doors

  Released from this place forever

  Not being forced under

  Fly Away

  Today is the Day

No more yelling about what is the right way

Feeling free for the 1st time in a long time

All together now on the crazy ride

  The two lost behind

  Are always on the mind

It’s a quest to make things right

Practice with sincerity for the show tonight

  Fly Away

  Today is the Day

No more yelling about what is the right way

  FREE COFFEE

Thanks brother man for the free coffee

Don’t always judge by appearance, we all have our own way to be free

Not always easy to talk to the unknown

We’ve been shown, in our time

That our different groups don’t always see eye to eye

I’m no member of a secret group of the right

Like Fat Mike said, “Don’t Call Me White”

I prefer to be cool with those who are cool

Don’t care what you look like, don’t call me a fool

Stop the nonsense assumptions and silly presumptions

About others who are passing by,

Just ‘cause someone has a different color doesn’t mean they need an alibi

Alas, it is still going on, no group is immune to it

Some have given in long ago, rather than pursue it

  GLORIOUS REVELATION

  It’s a glorious revelation

  This undertaking

That has me asking, is more of me baking?

How do I work in this modern world that is not of my making?

Constant machinery mocking every idea worthy saving

  GLORIOUS REVELATION

  ALL ACROSS THE NATION

THIS IS A JOURNEY FOR THE SOUL

I’ve gone as far as I need as far as machine, reverting to the days of old

When the cell phone wasn’t your display of ego

Have my bike now so I am mobile

Don’t need much money to travel my style

Down the coast 101 to 1

Doing it for real this time son

Probably use some connections all the way

Whoa, who am I kidding, No one survives alone today

  GLORIOUS REVELATION

  ALL ACROSS THE NATION

THIS IS A JOURNEY FOR THE SOUL

Feel better about it this time

Will plan at least a little bit, ensure a smoother ride

Don’t want to be asking for help from family anymore, it’s time to stop fighting the tide

I know where my future is

And it’s in the writing biz

Stop succumbing to the negative sigh

Of the loved ones that we always fight

  GLORIOUS REVELATION

  ALL ACROSS THE NATION

THIS IS A JOURNEY FOR THE SOUL

  GOLDEN CASTLE

  Meander through the thicket

  Listen to the crickets

Are they having anything good to say?

  Let’s listen close

Be in tune with the creatures of the night

Helps when traversing the darkening fright

Meandering again through the hopeful rain

Washing again the Dark Lives that have been chained

It’s now the time of loud intolerance

Silent creatures look on in dismay

Nothing for them to cause interference

  Realign with a righteous few

The willing and able whose confidence, they shoe

Others laugh at the fateful attempts

For the ones whose lives are spent

No more direction but ahead toward the ongoing battle

For the true ownership of the golden castle

  GOLDEN TICKET

It was an unfortunate night not so long ago, when

A child was murdered by an overzealous neighborhood watchman

The child was a teenage boy who was walking home for the night

When a fat, plump liar man saw the peculiar sight

What is that awful boy doing in my neighborhood?

Stalking the boy to investigate, he even received advice from the officer, who worked late

Don’t worry about the boy, just leave him alone

No, said the liar man, I better make sure he doesn’t get home

The boy was unarmed, just his fists and his wits

Much different than the fat man who had a gun at his hip

The liar man was weak and not much of a fighter

But tonight was the night he would prove who was mightier

The boy confronted the fat man, “why are you following me,

Leave me alone, I’m just walking, can’t you see?”

But the liar man knew something was bad in this situation

This had to be the boy who was evil incarnation

He continued to pursue the boy until the boy decided to respond

I can take this old man he thought; he was fatefully wrong

The liar man was aware of his golden ticket

In case there was a fight and he couldn’t handle it

They began their fight like many boys tend to do

I’ve been in similar situations, let me tell you

The boy’s mistake was not realizing this was a gun fight

His tiny arms, too much for the fat man to take

  As the boy became boastful
for taking the lead

Embarrassment swam over the fat man indeed

But he remembered the golden ticket, he had learned of before

And then grabbed his own gun without any chore

Fear quickly sprang into the boys eyes

But it was too late; he would never hear his mother’s cries

The liar man held onto his golden ticket with all of his might

It was the only way he was getting away with murder tonight

The trial was a circus, as these tend to be

But the fat man still had his golden ticket, so his non guilt, a formality

  HOME

Back home, or at least the physical place

Some same, some different, all I know is I have a similar face

Watching an old movie about youth

How the previous era wasn’t any better than the current truth

Realizing now that I’m more connected to characters than my own family

Still trying to figure out why I’m here, although the answers tend to veer

I’ve never outgrown wanting to learn about the world

An observer of it whole heartedly,

Not just following concepts because someone tells me

The future is open to those who set their minds free

  Join me

And let’s see if we can truly be free

I’M MY OWN KIND OF MAN

What does it take to make you understand?

That I am my own kind of man

Don’t care if you think that I can

Does it make you feel good to try and put me down?

Negativity, it makes me want to drown

  I’ve lost everything

  Yet, you still want more

  Family has taken your side

You’re just a sweet angel to them,

Taking away my boys, an action I can’t defend

Trying to be hopeful, when I have little support

When one loses everything, erratic actions might have to resort

I am my own kind of man

No longer sorry, that you don’t understand

Maybe someday we’ll go hand in hand

Until then, I’ll make my own plan

  LABOR

Ran sixteen miles before work today

Then spent the day, busting my but trying not to spew my guts

Hoisting and lifting shit up stairs

80+ degrees doing that shit, I got my share of stares

College Graduate doing this shit, but life is what it is

If you don’t make use of the connections you have

You may not always live up to the promises you gave

Get a good job after college, get married, live happily ever after, were mantras pursued with luster

But soon enough reality snuck in and success and happiness have been hard to muster

The pressure to conform is constant and always in my face

I just want to have my own little place

Where I can write my songs, sing, relax and have fun

I had that once, but it was before my oldest turned one

For now I’ll just keep on marching along

  Until somebody likes my song

  MY COUNTRY OF DISSILUSION

Disillusion with the country I was born in

A place where murder is aloud, if you don’t like the look that you given

  If a person looks strange

You can shoot ‘em in the chest

Chances are the judge will say, “Case dismissed”

Poor people fight for the rights of the rich to buy another yacht

Even though they themselves can’t feed their tot

People with more than enough to spare

Complain about their money going to health care

Of course there are the wars that are always going on

The purpose, not sure, didn’t hear that song

Persecution as well for those who are different

You better shut up boy or jail is more than apparent

  MY SPACE

  Lost and lonely without you

But crazy thinking we could again be two

There must be an easier way to do this

Our two paths no longer fit

Will just have to learn to be this way

Until, that is, another lady comes my way

I’m not going to stay for too long

There are women who’ll enjoy my song

I’m not supersensitive, or that Emotional

But I do love with just a little conditional

Woman will have to understand my space

I don’t always want us face to face

Together is good, but not all the time

Need to be left alone once in a while, allow the mind to unwind

Don’t want to bounce from woman to woman

Like a steady thing, no more one night stands

Eight plus years with boys’ mother

It became too much, not seeing eye to eye on anything, then why bother?

  Women are my kryptonite

Have to admit, so many would love to take home tonight

But I really want to stay on course

Difficult though with so many beautiful women in all shapes, sizes and colors, it can’t be forced

  Live life, that’s all

No need to be consumed with tasks that are small

  NEED A WOMAN

The old one is too soon forgotten

Open wound that is still broken

But with new life comes the new woman

  Appreciative of the time unspoken

  In this time we’re gathered

It is encouraging to see renewed energy that has meandered

To a hopeful start with each passing day

  Is today the day?

It is hard to say which one will make the play

There is that one I met by pressing send

  How do people meet again?

Don’t even like the object of everyone’s affection

The real world is my true addiction

I don’t need a computer screen, or an all in one device that fits inside a soup can

No more denial, I know I need a woman

  NEW MEMBER

At the urging of the newest member

The others got together to remember

The fallen one who made an attempt

At the new form of enlightenment

How to explain one’s self in the company of others

The journey I’m on is long and spiritual; hopefully others don’t find me too much a bother

Resting the legs, to gear up for more legs

The celebration at the end this time will not be kegs
