Only This Night (Silhouette Reissued)

“Upstairs.” She deliberately stepped away from the tangle of wet clothes strewn about the kitchen floor and held out her hand to him in invitation.
It was an invitation he quickly and eagerly accepted, letting her lead the way until they reached the privacy of the bedroom above.
“I love you, Brenna,” he declared with the full force of that love, burying his face in her damp, silky mane as his hands slid down her back to the rounded curve of her bottom. His caress was a sensuously tantalizing gesture. A gesture that was repeated again and again until a kind of sweet desperation took hold of them both.
“I thought you wanted to know where I keep my bath towels,” she rasped, catching her lower lip between her teeth as he kissed the rain from the tip of her nose, the delicate curve of her ear, the vulnerable arch of her throat.
“I did,” he said with a muffled groan as his lips found hers. “And now I know where they are in case we need them later.”
“Love me, Garrett,” she breathed into his mouth. “Please, love me now,” she softly implored as her hands clutched at his shoulders, her nails scoring his damp, heated flesh.
“I will love you as you’ve never been loved before,” he promised as he settled her in the middle of the bed and came down beside her.
He loved her first with the gentle caress of his hands and then with the summer warmth of his mouth as he made his way down the length of her body. His touch created a storm in her of such sweet, violent proportions that she cried out his name over and over again. He lovingly licked a drop of rain from her breast. His tongue moistened the tip until it hardened. And, still, the storm raged on.
He rose to his knees and bent over her supple form, slowly lowering his weight onto her.
“I love you, Garrett!” she cried out once more as she instinctively arched into his body, driving the tip of her tongue between his parted lips with a mounting need and excitement. Her nails raked his buttocks as she urged him closer and closer, aching for the fulfillment only he could give.
Then he came to her at last, joining his body and hers with an exquisite movement that merged their past, present and future into one moment. There was only this moment for them as they clung to each other, loved each other with a passionate need that was as old as time.
And then the final, thunderous climax of their passion held them in its tempestuous grasp as they fearlessly faced the raging storm.
It was sometime later that Garrett rolled over and reached for her, only to find the bed beside him empty. He looked up and saw Brenna standing at the window, a sudden flash of lightning illuminating her nude form.
“What are you doing way over there, sweetheart?” he asked in a teasing tone as he propped himself up on his elbows and gazed at her with laughing, loving eyes.
“I’m not way over there,” she pointed out with a chuckle. “It couldn’t be more than four or five feet,” she added, estimating the short distance from the bed to the window.
“Why don’t you come back to bed?” he drawled in his most persuasive manner, giving the mattress a soft pat with his hand. “C’mon, honey, what do you say?”
She slowly walked toward the bed, her hips gently swaying as she moved. “I have only one thing to say about that, Garrett Forsyte.”
“And what’s that?” he eagerly asked, his eyes blazing with anticipation.
Brenna smiled down at him with a soft, sensuous smile as she lightly ran her hand along his bare leg. “Goody goody gumdrops …”
