Big hugs and kisses. See you tomorrow—if we make it out of bed. ;)

  Sage.

Sarah dropped back in her chair, suddenly exhausted from the blast of conflicting emotions that the e-mail left her dealing with.

For so many years she’d kept herself separate, cut off, her work her only focus. Now she had to deal with all these people, with friends and the complications they caused. She just wanted to get on with her training and her job and get to work. She had no dreams of white dresses, magnolias or handsome heroes.

Not that she begrudged others such things, but her priorities were just…different. She’d devoted her time and her life to another pursuit. And it made her happy. Maybe not in the same way as Sage was talking about, but all the same….

She closed the e-mail and returned to her work, struggling to erase Sage’s words and the uncomfortable inklings of hopes and dreams that had resurfaced in response to them. She’d left those things long behind her, for good.
