Rock My World
Page 27
“I didn’t forget,” I murmured, placing my hands on Levi’s chest, wholly aware of his erratic heartbeat. “For once in my life, I wanted to put other people’s happiness before my own. That’s all.”
“That’s all? That’s all?” Levi moved away and started pacing in front of me. “Do you have any idea what you put me through?” He stopped, raking frustrated fingers through his hair and I couldn’t help but smile. “Christ, woman. I left two guys, a producer, and one very pissed band manager in the middle of a fucking recording. All to fly back here and get it through that thick, beautiful head of yours—”
I grinned.
“What’s so damn funny?”
“I should be the one who’s pissed, not you.”
He raised incredulous eyebrows. “You’re not serious.”
“Sure am.”
Levi cursed under his breath, crossed arms over an obscenely broad chest and muttered, “Let’s hear it then.”
I narrowed my eyes at him, stepping in close. “You, Levi Mondez,” I poked one of his pecs, “serenaded me.”
His eyes grew wide.
I poked him again. “I told you never to serenade me.”
He stared in disbelief.
“Don’t fucking do it again.”
Levi flashed a lethal smile, growled, and then claimed my lips once more.
When we finally came up for air, he murmured, “Let’s go somewhere quiet. We need to talk and then we need to fuck.”
“So romantic,” I muttered.
His eyes darkened. “Six weeks, kitten. I’ve been waiting six goddamn weeks to put my cock inside you and own that sweet pussy until you scream my name. And then you show up to a fucking bar wearing this.” His fingers gripped the soft material of my short summer dress bunching it between his fingers. “You’re not even wearing a bra,” he groaned. “If we don’t get out of here soon…” He swallowed. “Fuck it. I’m not waiting any longer.”
I shivered. My female parts cheered wildly before emphatically waving a placard that read, Sex in Public isn’t a Crime, it’s a Fucking Privilege. Pretty sure they were onto something there.
“C’mon, let’s go.” He grabbed my hand and began leading me to the exit, but I stopped.
“Hang on, what about Riley? I’m not going to leave her here by herself.”
“Do you trust me?”
“You know I do.”
“Good, she’s fine.”
I raised an eyebrow at his abruptness but for once remained silent. He tugged my hand again and I grudgingly followed.
We left The Hole, crossed the main road and made our way down to the beach. As my feet sank in the cool sand, I broke free of Levi’s grasp, bent to take off my strappy sandals and wiggled my toes. Straightening back up again, I then stared at the horizon. The night was clear and I could see the twinkling lights of fishing trawlers glimmering in the distance. Their brightness starkly contrasted against the inky black water, looking like floating stars in a rippling sky. I smiled.
At last, I felt centered. Calm. Sure. Not of the future, I had no idea what it would bring. And definitely not of the past, I wasn’t at peace with that just yet. But I was sure of this moment. Oh boy, was I sure of the man standing beside me.
I breathed deeply.
Levi inhaled too before sitting and pulling me onto his lap. He kissed me again, it wasn’t desperate like last time, it was lingering, sensual, full of promise. It made my toes curl and my heart skip a beat. It was everything I could ever want.
Sigh.
Levi pulled away, murmuring huskily, “Come on tour with me.”
I blinked.
“I love you, kitten. The past month and a half has been … it’s been completely fucked. Shit just doesn’t make sense without you. I need you by my side, not just for three months—always. Say you’ll come away with me. Please.”
I looked down. More than anything in the world I wanted to say yes. Especially since I came to the same realization five and a half weeks ago.
Levi was right, life only made sense when it was spent with the person you loved. It just sucked I loved two people to distraction, though in two very different ways. I shook my head, bereft. “I’m sorry, Levi.”
“But why?” His voice was desperate.
I remained silent, the black hole where my heart used to be started imploding on itself.
“Is it because of Riley?”
I nodded. “I can’t leave her. I just … please don’t ask me to.”
“You won’t have to.”
My head shot up. “What do you mean?”
He smiled. “She’s coming too.”
I stared at him, dumbfounded.
He tucked some hair behind my ear. “Think about it. If you and Riley are a package deal, then she has to come. It’s simple.”
I snorted. “Levi, this whole situation is anything but simple.”
“Well, I’ve already run the idea past the boys and they’re cool with it. Besides, Jimmy would bust my balls if I didn’t bring you back since my music turns to crap without you.” He grinned. It was that cajoling smile of his, the one which turned my brain to mush.
Focus, Grace.
“What about after the tour?”
Levi turned serious. “We’ll sort it out, kitten. Either you move to Melbourne, or I’ll stay here. I don’t give a fuck. I just wanna be wherever you are, that’s the only thing I care about.”
All of a sudden, I felt the faint flicker of a heartbeat. “I want that too, Levi. So much it hurts.”
He stared at me for a long moment. “So we’re agreed. We’re gonna make this work.” He paused before asking, “Do you want us to stay in Geographe Bay?”
I considered his question carefully before answering, “No, not really.” I held up my hand. “Just give me a second, I need to think this through in my head first.”
Levi nodded and proceeded to pepper soft kisses along my jaw.
I’m sure I could find an equally satisfying teaching role somewhere else. After all, educators are needed around the globe.
His tongue followed the curve of my ear and I shut my eyes.
I’m not tied to Geographe High anymore. To be honest, some geographical and emotional distance from my sister would be awesome.
He moved to my neck and nibbled his way down.
Yes, I’d miss Carli, but she would understand. In fact, after my zombie-like state last term, she’d probably pack my bags and drive me to the airport. Hell, she might even get a speeding fine on the way.
His hands kneaded my breasts as he kissed the length of my collarbone.
Can’t think. Oh. My. God.
I officially melted.
Okay, where was I? Oh right, the future. Well, I’d have to convince Riley to quit her job, move interstate and then start her life over. For me.
Shit.
I pulled away. “Levi, I can’t. It’s too much to ask Riley.”
Levi’s eyes slowly regained focus and his hands dropped to my waist. “So we’re gonna live here, hating it, for her?”
I shrugged one shoulder. “Guess so.”
He grinned wryly. “Man, you two are fucking stubborn.” His hands slowly and deliberately slid up my arms.
I tingled but tried to disregard it. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
But he ignored me as deft fingers slipped under the spaghetti straps of my dress. “It’s a good thing she already said yes.”
“Bullshit.”
He pulled the flimsy material off my shoulders. “Well, on the condition that you relocate too.” My dress fell away, pooling to my hips and I shivered at the touch of his calloused hands against my heated skin. “And you’ve already agreed to that.”
I tried to stay focused as his fingers teased my hardening nipples. “But what about her work?” I breathed, back arched, eyes closed. “You think she’s just going to give up nursing to come on tour and then move to Melbourne?”
I could feel Levi grinning as his mouth took ove
r from the sweet torment of his hands. “Something tells me she’s due for a career change,” he murmured against my breasts.
“How the hell do you know more about my best friend than I do?”
He straightened up, gazing at me, his laughing eyes soft. “You’re so adorable when you’re angry.”
I shot daggers at him. “I swear to God, Levi—”
“All right, all right.” His fingers trailed across my cheek. “Dom told me.”
“Dom? What the fuck does he have to do with it?”
Levi leaned forward and sucked on my bottom lip. My growing frustration immediately subsided and I moaned quietly, burying my hands in his hair.
“I love that smart mouth of yours, kitten,” he purred, hands traveling down the length of my back. “Drove me fucking insane the first time I heard it. I love your fire, your heat, your goddamn everything.” As we kissed his hands slipped around to cup my ass, quickly repositioning me until I sat astride him. “I’m gonna do sweet, dirty things to that mouth right here on this beach.”
Shuffling forward, I felt the warning bulge in his jeans as it rubbed tantalizingly against my soaked panties. I swore again. It echoed in the darkness.
“You ready for me, Grace?” His hands deliberately slid up my outer thighs, pushing my dress higher with each stroke. I could feel the sea breeze brush against my near naked body.
Sweet God. Tonight I’m actually gonna see the face of heaven.
Before I lost all sense of reason I tugged his hair, pulling his head back, demanding his eyes on me. “But what about Dom and Riley?”
Levi groaned from the pressure, kissed me deeply and I lost myself in the sensual rhythm of his lips and tongue for longer than I anticipated. Much longer. It was always going to be like this, I could tell.
As his hands moved to possessively clasp the curve of my hips, he breathed softly, “That’s a story for another time, kitten.”
And with a growl, he pushed me down onto the sand.
Completing me.
