Defender's Blood The Return (An Urban Fantasy)

  As Simeon got out of the vehicle he raised his eyebrow at Vlad - “So what's going on?” he asked his boss and Vlad told him what had happened. Simeon's mouth was a hard line, his eyes cold but Vlad could see the anger in his stance. “It's not your fault Simeon – this has been something they have had planned for a long time.” Vlad told him but Simeon still rankled – these wolves had got onto their land, and badly hurt one of their own – and they had done it on his watch!

  He roughly grabbed one of the men standing next to Zach and passed him off to a Guard - “These fuckers are going to jail until we decide what to do with them.” Simeon spat out and grabbed the next one standing at Zach's front.

  Once they were in a vehicle and guards appointed they moved the two wolves who lay on the ground – both still in wolf form and both out for the count. They were thrown unceremoniously into the back of the SUV that the other two were already in. Simeon barked some orders and the Guards took those four away – to a jail where hardship was the norm.

  Vlad spoke - “Ok – first we need to get the body out of the house then we need a crew to clean up downstairs. Dmitri has Donna up in her bedroom and he'll make sure she stays there until this is finished. Simeon – when the crew lets you know it's done then text Dmitri – let him know.” Vlad finished and Simeon inclined his head to let Vlad know he understood.

  The three large vampires walked back into the house and the smells assaulted their nostrils. Blood was heavy in the air but there was also the smell of fear – so strong it felt as if it was pulsing around them – there was also the smell of Donna – being in heat her scent was very pungent and all three tried to block it from their minds.

  There was the smell of Kade – both alive and dead. His smell at the dining table was very strong – his arousal was clear for them to scent and anger flared in all of them. Simeon cursed - “Fucker!” he spat out and Zach looked at Vlad's second – he could see that this scene was unsettling him and he knew he was feeling guilty. It was Simeon's job to keep the town safe – and this had happened – nobody would blame Simeon – only himself and that was the hardest thing to bear.

  Zach placed a hand on Simeon's shoulder - “Try not to blame yourself too much Simeon. Kade – well he was a devious son of a bitch! None of us expected this – not after all this time – and you and the Guards can't be everywhere at once. Come on – let's get the body out.” Zach finished and Simeon knew Zach was right – but it didn't make him feel any better.

  Vlad bent down and picked up Kade's head – he didn't even glance at it – and Zach and Simeon removed the rest of the body. There was blood everywhere – it would take a lot of cleaning up. They all went outside carrying their macabre loads and the body went in the rear of the second SUV.

  As the front door to Donna's house was busted Simeon ordered one of the Guards to stay – keep guard and supervise the cleaning crew he was going to call. Once the Guard was standing erect outside the front door Simeon took his phone out and organised a crew to come and cleanse the downstairs. He did this while walking the perimeter of the house – ensuring it was all secure. Vlad and Zach watched him – understanding completely how he would be feeling.

  Vlad waited til Simeon was back at the SUV and spoke - “Ok Simeon – I'll do the paperwork on this – tho can you please keep this quiet for now? We don't want Finn finding out Dmitri decapitated his father just yet! I think Dmitri will want to talk to Finn himself.”

  Simeon realised there were going to be far reaching complications – it seemed Dmitri and Donna were now together (tho when that happened he had no idea!) and of course Dmitri had just killed the father of her children! Shit he sure as hell didn't want to be in on THAT conversation! “No problem Vlad – I'll call the other Guards now – make sure they don't say anything.” Simeon confirmed and used his phone immediately – making sure things didn't get out – just yet anyway!

  Once Simeon was ready to go Vlad and Zach said 'bye' to him and started walking together - “This is one shit fucking thing to have happened!” Vlad said and Zach had to agree - “Yea I know – fuck I thought we were going to lose her for a moment! If we had Dmitri would have been destroyed! It's taken him over three years to actually let go and be with Donna – for her to be taken from him within a day of them mating – shit it would've killed him!” Zach finished and Vlad stopped.

  “Mated? Did you just say fucking mated?” Vlad said in such a surprised tone that Zach smiled - “Yes – you're losing your touch Vlad – there were marks on both of them – they must've mated – there's no other reason for both to have bitten each other.” Zach said and Vlad's smile was huge. “That's a fucking miracle Zach – a miracle – I'm so pleased he's finally gotten over Ludmilla – I was beginning to despair that he never would.” Vlad's words were heartfelt and Zach knew just what he meant – he was also glad his little subterfuge had worked! They continued walking – taking their time and chatting – mostly about Dmitri – and when they went their separate ways both were still smiling!

  As Vlad and Zach had been walking away from the house Dmitri was still holding Donna close to him. She had stopped shaking but as yet hadn't said a word. Dmitri didn't try to get anything out of her – he just sat quietly and stroked her hair, holding her close and safe in his arms.

  Finally she spoke - “Dmitri – I need to ask you something – I don't want to but I have to.” she whispered and Dmitri wondered what it was? “Donna you can ask me anything Laskovaya Moya – anything at all.” Dmitri said and waited.

  It was a few minutes before Donna spoke again – as if she was having trouble getting the words out. “Dmitri – I'm in my breeding cycle – and well I can remember Kade – he was – he was ….” and a sob tore from her throat – Dmitri had an inkling of what she was trying to say - “Yes Donna – I know what he was doing.” his words filling the space her sob had created.

  “Dmitri – I've got my children – he was their father – tho luckily none of them are anything like him – but – Dmitri – I can't have another of his children! I just can't!” she got the words out before sobbing again.

  Dmitri knew this conversation was going to be hard for his little wolf - “Donna – I'm pretty sure he hadn't – you know – came – I interrupted him – pulled him off you – but if you're still worried we can go to David once your cycle is over and get him to check – then if a decision is required I'll be there for you – you decide what is going to happen with your body honey.” Dmitri's voice was low – calming – as he spoke. Donna moved a hand down between her legs - “I need to go to the toilet.” she said and Dmitri carried her there – once she was sitting on the loo he came out to give her some privacy.

  As soon as Dmitri left Donna felt herself – trying to see if she could feel or smell any of Kade's semen inside her. She didn't think she could – Dmitri had been right in that Kade hadn't climaxed inside of her but as all women know it's not just a full climax that can result in a pregnancy! Especially a wolf in full heat!

  She would wait and go and see David – she knew she couldn't carry another of Kade's children – especially one conceived in such a fashion. However, she had never believed in abortion either, ever! So she didn't know where that left her – up shit creek without a bloody paddle – that's where!

  Donna walked back through to the bedroom and Dmitri was at her side in a flash – picking her up. He carried her to the bed – and placed her down in the middle of it. Her heat was in full swing and her skin was on fire again – but she needed to talk to Dmitri first!

  “Dmitri – what happened? I was sure I was dying – I felt something break in my throat – I couldn't breathe.” Donna said and Dmitri nodded - “Yes Donna you were pretty badly hurt – Zach got Lexi here – she healed you. All the damage he had done with the belt – on your body and your throat – it was so tight around your neck I knew you probably wouldn't make it! I thought I was dying too – then Lexi was there and all she did was touch you – you healed in fron
t of my eyes – and when you took a deep breath in – fuck the relief was immense!” he finished and Donna now realised why she was still alive! She would have to thank everyone – Zach, Lexi – and she was sure she had seen Vlad too?

  Donna's face went scarlet - “What is it?” Dmitri asked in response to the redness of Donna's face - “Uhm – I've no clothes on – well from the waist down – Zach and Vlad?” she muttered and Dmitri realised she was embarrassed - “Zach took his jacket off and placed it over you – he's the perfect gentleman.” Dmitri told her and she relaxed – just a bit – then she stiffened again.

  “Oh God – he's dead isn't he?” she said and Dmitri nodded - “Yes – I'm sorry Donna – I lost it – he was taunting me saying he could do whatever he wanted to you – that you liked it like that – all shit of course but yes I lost control and he's dead.” the large Russian spoke with his eyes downcast – he didn't want to see any anger in her eyes at killing the father of her children. “Good!” she spat out - “He was a godawful person – he deserved to die – but shit – how are we going to tell the kids?” she said and Dmitri wasn't sure.

  Dmitri knew Finn was still in town - “Donna – I think I should go and talk to Finn – you could call Lisa?” Dmitri said – he thought Finn deserved to hear this from him – the one who had killed his father.

  He hoped it didn't send Finn into a downward spiral – as the death of a parent so often did to young men! Donna looked thoughtful - “First Dmitri – can you help me into the shower – I can still smell him on me – I need to get it off my skin!” she whimpered and Dmitri picked her up – carried her through – undressed her and placed her in the shower. Dmitri took his boots off and he stepped in, fully clothed, and washed every inch of her body. Although Donna was having her breeding cycle there was nothing sexual about the shower – he was cleaning his new mate – taking the smell of Kade off her skin – and off his too – along with Kade's blood!

  After the shower Dmitri walked downstairs and to his jeep – retrieving his bag with clean clothes. The Guard at the door had given him a very weird look as he walked past him soaking wet – but he just ignored him. He had much more on his mind than looking like an idiot to a Guard.

  Once he was dressed in fresh clothes he put his boots on and turned to Donna. She was sitting up in the bed – with nothing on but her robe – her fingers moved to her phone – her eyes moved to his. “It's going to be ok Donna – they'll understand – once you tell them what was happening – what he had done to you – they'll understand.” Dmitri said – wondering if he was just hoping for that outcome – maybe they wouldn't understand at all!

  Donna nodded - “Ok – you go talk to Finn – I've got to do this on my own. Dmitri – hurry back.” she said and he came over, bent down and gave her a kiss before leaving her.

  Downstairs the cleaning crew were hard at work and he was amazed at how much they had done already – soon nobody would suspect what had gone on in these rooms!

  Dmitri got in his vehicle – his heart heavy – how did he tell Finn about what had happened? He didn't know – shit!

  He had helped this boy since he had brought him back to Unity. Finn had been an angry teenager – and Dmitri had helped him get rid of the anger – get control, focus – helped him to come to terms with how he had felt.

  Finn had felt it was his 'duty' to make his father pay for what he had done to his mother. Dmitri had tried to show the boy that although his father had done bad things it wasn't his responsibility. He had been a child – powerless to stop the Alpha – it wasn't Finn's fault and his anger got less.

  Finn became a credit to his mother – a young man who had scruples and good morals. Letting anger fester was never a good thing and Finn had come to realise that – with Dmitri's help.

  Now Dmitri was on his way to tell Finn that he had done exactly what he had told Finn not to do – act in anger!

  Dmitri wasn't sorry for what he had done – Kade had deserved it – in the world of Supers wrongdoing brought swift justice. Many times that resulted in the death of the wrongdoer – Dmitri had killed many people. All of them deserving – but Kade was still Finn's father and Dmitri didn't know how this would go.

  He hoped that he didn't cause Finn any more hurt – didn't steer him from the path the young man was on – but mostly he didn't want Finn to think less of him. It mattered a hell of a lot to Dmitri how Finn perceived him – more than he liked to admit to even himself!

  Dmitri parked the car at the Security Offices and went inside. He firstly went to Vlad's office and found his old friend on his computer – probably hacking into some site or other! Vlad looked up when Dmitri entered – having sensed him as he came along the corridor. “Vlad – I need to talk to Finn – do you know where he is?” Dmitri asked and Vlad nodded - “Yes – he's in the rear gym – I sent Simeon to find him and take him alone to the gym. Work him out – alone – I knew you would be coming Dmitri.” Vlad said and Dmitri realised that of course Vlad would have done this – his friend was always a few steps ahead of everyone else.

  Dmitri turned to leave and Vlad's voice stopped him - “How's Donna?” he asked and Dmitri turned round again - “Ok – sort of – she has some concerns about Kade doing what he did while in her breeding cycle – we'll deal with whatever comes. To be honest I don't think it's sunk in yet – she seemed a little too calm to me.” Dmitri said and Vlad thought Dmitri was right – it would hit Donna hard. Maybe not this minute but sometime soon it would hit her and Dmitri better be there to pick up the pieces!

  Dmitri didn't say anything else, just turned and walked in the direction of the gym. His walk was slow – he wasn't looking forward to this! As he neared the gym he heard Simeon putting Finn through his session – there were loud grunts and Dmitri could hear Finn's laboured breaths. Simeon was obviously working the lad hard! Dmitri took a deep breath and pushed the door – Simeon saw him and immediately left.

  Finn smelt Dmitri and turned to see the large vampire standing a few paces from him. He stopped punching the bag and turned all the way round. “Finn – we need to talk – come and sit down.” Dmitri said and went over to the benches set at either side of the large gym. Finn followed – a frown on his face – worried that he had done something wrong or that Vlad had sent Dmitri to tell him he wasn't good enough for the Guards!

  Once they were both seated Dmitri looked straight at him – he was determined to look this young man in the face while he told him he had killed his father, no matter how hard it was!

  “Finn – I've got to tell you something – all I ask is that you listen first – don't say anything until I'm done – ok?” Dmitri said and Finn only inclined his head – his look of worry deepening on his features. “The first thing I need to say is that your mom is fine – well she is now – but you don't need to worry about her for now ok?” Dmitri wanted Finn to know that straight away – didn't want him worrying about his mother.

  Finn sat up straighter – what the hell was going on? He opened his mouth then remembered what Dmitri had said – to listen first – so he closed it and it took all his restraint not to start shouting asking what was wrong with his mom!

  Dmitri saw the struggle in Finn and was proud when Finn got it under control and closed his mouth. He was a fine lad – anyone would be proud to call him son or friend. Dmitri took another deep breath.

  “Finn – your father .” and Dmitri saw the tightening of Finn's lips, the look of hate in the eyes but continued on - “your father – he and four of his wolves paid a visit here today – wait Finn” Dmitri said as Finn opened his mouth – he closed it and clenched his jaws tightly - “he came and got in your mom's – he attacked her – badly – I got there just in time – shit – I should've told you this part first – me and your mom – well we're together – so I had left to get some things and when I came back I could smell strange wolves – I phoned and got Vlad and Zach – they went after the ones outside. I went in the house – I'm not goi
ng to lie to you Finn – I've always told you the truth and I'm going to do that now. He had your mom and had beaten her with is belt – he had it round her neck and she was unconscious – in fact he had broken her trachea – she couldn't breath – he was still – 'doing stuff' to her when I got there – I got him off and I'm ashamed to say Finn that I let my anger take over – I'm really sorry Finn – I … I... fuck – I killed him Finn. Your father's dead.” Dmitri finished and let out a huge breath – waiting on the reaction.

  Finn said nothing for about ten seconds then his mouth opened and he spoke – quickly - “Mom and you? Shit! How is she? If she was hurt so bad how come she's ok now – you did say she was ok didn't you!” Finn's tone was full of fear – he couldn't lose his mom!

  Dmitri replied - “Yes – physically she's ok – Zach got Lexi and Lexi healed her – right there in front of me – if Lexi hadn't been here I'm pretty sure we would've lost her Finn.” Finn relaxed slightly - “So physically she's ok? Mentally – did he really hurt her? Did he force her to – you know...” and Finn's voice tapered off – he knew what his father would've done but didn't want to say the words.

  Dmitri placed an arm around Finn's shoulders and was pleased when he didn't pull away. “He hurt her really bad – and the answer to the other thing is yes – that's when I got there. I should've been quicker – if I hadn't stopped to talk to Vlad I would've been there – I could've stopped it!” Dmitri's voice was full of pain – this thought had been running around his head since this had happened!

  Finn spoke - “Ok well we'll need to look after her Dmitri – make sure she's ok and feels safe – we can do that can't we? Together?” Finn's voice was almost pleading and Dmitri looked once more at his eyes – he didn't see any anger towards him in Finn's eyes?!

  Finn carried on - “So you killed him?” he asked Dmitri - “Yes Finn I did – I was so angry – and I let that take over.” Dmitri told the boy. Finn nodded his head - “Did he suffer?” the boy asked the large Russian.
